February 2012[edit]

Please do not add or change content without verifying it by citing reliable sources, as you did to Franklin Regional School District. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 03:29, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company, organization, or clients. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Drmies (talk) 03:43, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've blocked you for spamming (the adding of websites to Wikpedia articles for promotional purposes and for having a promotional username--your name is spam for http://twitter.com/DanceMomsFanWeb. On your next account, if you feel the need to made some edits to get autoconfirmed, please get your punctuation straight. Drmies (talk) 03:45, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am not spamming. I was just adding the link so that people could get more information if they wanted to. I did not add the Brooke Hyland information on the school district site I just added the link so that people could get more information about her. I think the links are very useful to people who are looking to get more information than what is allowed on a wikipedia page. This is the purpose of a link on wikipedia. Many people have gone to the sites from the links and have stayed on the websites for a very long period of time to get more information. I am very sorry if you think I am spamming. That is honestly not my intention in any way. I just want to provide a way for people to get more information if they would like to. I personally find no reason for Brooke to be on the school district wikipedia. However, since she was there I decided to add the link since people would wonder who she was. Request reason:

my user name does not represent any sort of organization or company. I just have the same username for my twitter account. It is by no means an organization. Dancemomsfanweb (talk) 05:07, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am not sure why this other user has a vested interest in the Dance Moms Wikipedia page. I run their fan sites that has lots of traffic from fans of the show dance moms. My websites are NOT spam. I did not put those links on the wikipedia page for spam purposes. The websites are legitimate and should be on the wikipedia page so that people can get more information about the dancers. Tons of people came to my fan sites from the links on wikipedia and spent a considerable amount of time on them commenting and joining the contests. Spam is something that is unwanted and unrelated. That is not the nature of my websites. I am not trying to sell something. I am merely trying to give people information. I am not sure the Drmies understands that....I am not an organization of any kind either...like I said.Dancemomsfanweb (talk) 05:16, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

As someone who runs their websites, you hold massive conflict of interest, and have a vested interest in driving traffic to their websites to increase the number of hits. Your addition of the links to those websites - especially in the manner that you were adding them - is textbook violation of our external links policy. You will not be unblocked if your future intent is to add additional links to this encyclopedia that go to sites that you have any involvement in (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 11:54, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Drmies....I am not sure why you think I am spam. The websites are 100% related to the wikipedia subject. I used to dance so I made fan sites for the dance girls. I am not promoting, I just put the links there because they are relevant to the subject. Spam is something not wanted. This was not spam, tons of people came to the websites seeking more information about the girls. They stayed on the website and interacted with it. I am not an organization. I do not want to sell anything. My websites are purely informational....My username just happens to be the same as my Twitter name. My websites are relevant sources of information. I think you have misunderstood my intentions.

  • Pick which one of the unblock requests that you want reviewed. There is no practical reason for having two live unblock requests. Please add comments below the message post to which they pertain. This is to allow readers to be able to follow a discussion. Please sign your posts with four tildes (~) at the end of your posts. Tiderolls 05:38, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • Well, first of all, those links are not allowed for a host of reasons, mainly because (as you say) they are fan sites, which are not "relevant sources of information", at least not by our standards (see WP:RS, for instance). Second, external websites shouldn't be linked as URLs in the text per our manual of style (WP:MOS). Third, your name appears to be that of an organization, and that is not OK given our policy on usernames--see WP:CORPNAME, which adds that such users are usually blocked if they also engage in promotional activities, which you were doing by adding fan sites to articles. Fourth, your name actually is the name of a site, http://twitter.com/DanceMomsFanWeb, which promotes those fan sites--and you admitted that it's your Twitter account, and that you run their fan sites. That's the very definition of an involved organization, acting to promote those links. Drmies (talk) 14:41, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'm sorry, I made a mistake, I will not edit the site again, can i Please be unblocked? Also Brooke is 14 and Kendall is 9, I am not sure if you changed that but if you did I am not sure you would be writing about something you obviously know nothing about...I am sure that goes against the policies of wikipedia. Maybe someone should block you for false information.

  • I think one of the few things you actually know about the policies of Wikipedia is how to get autoconfirmed. I wonder how. Drmies (talk) 19:45, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
