Fair Use Images

Fair use images are copyrighted images that are used in Wikipedia solely for educational purpose, as allowed by the Copyright Act of 1976. Therefore, its use anywhere else, like in your userpage, is a copyright violation. Please see Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. The reason why they are not available in the Sapnish Wikipedia is because the local Wikipedians voted and decided that fair use images were to be banned from the encyclopedia. That is one of the reasons why it has not been as successful as the English Wikipedia, IMO. I hope this answerers your questions! --Boricuaeddie hábleme 13:03, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar! I'm sad to say that I haven't been spending as much time here on Wikipedia as I used to, and my edits are now much less significant than they used to be, but Wikisource has benefited from my increased free time. I'm glad that you stuck around—February 2007, wow, that makes you one of the old-timers around here! Not, of course, as ancient as I, but still, not bad =). Signature

Hey, thanks for signing, and I think it is a little guady, but thanks! And it really took you 3 minutes or more, there is a direct link under the banner, do you have any suggestions to make it easier? Bugboy52.4 (talk) 17:15, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the smile! And I found ot what was the problem, the a and b shouldn't be capitalized. Gaudy is something that is too showy, like a really colorful fur jacket with Peacock feathers, I might of spelt it wrong, try Wiktionary. And I like your userpage (a lot of userboxes). Re: Hi !

Hiya, thanks for the message, I'll try my best to answer as best I can.

1 - Unfortunately I have no idea how or even if there's a template to specify which ads get shown.

2 - I think if an image contains that logo, then no-one is allowed to use it without permission - Wikipedian or otherwise. To obtain permission I think you may find this page useful - it contains contact details of the Wikimedia Foundation.

3 - I'm not entirely sure what a user script is (I've never heard of it to be honest) and I've added coding to my own monobook, but I can't remember why. I think I've used mine to enhance my edits to Wikipedia (eg. I've got additional tabs on article pages such as warn, arv (report to administrators) and rpp (request for page protection).

4 - Living in London is lovely - if you can cope with inconsistent weather! But it's not bad really, people are lovely, public transport is great 95% of the time! (I love the red buses, so iconic); I guess it's just like living in the US, just with a little less glamour ;)

If you've got any further questions you can go over to the Help Desk or checkout WP: Questions and hopefully you'll find a more helpful response! :P Or just give me a nudge again ;D londonsista Prod 21:44, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Flavoured userbox

Thanks for your suggestion! A dragon fruit flavoured userbox is now available. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 10:33, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

The edit of mine you reverted has broken it again. Look at this screenshot I made of the error it is causing. The version I restored it to fixed this problem. Now it's broke again because you reverted back. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 08:10, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm not using User:One/Title anymore since when I do use it, it's broken. I just put the full code in my navigation template at User:Allstarecho/talknav. When you go to my talk page or user page, does it look correct or broken? If it looks correct, my code should work for everyone. Go look at my userpage or talk page and see if it's broken or working properly. If it's broken, take a screenshot so I can see it. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 01:15, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
this is what your sig looks like to me since I don't have your font installed on my PC. As for the Title code, your screenshot shows me it is working as it should. The userbox is a seperate issue from that and I'll have to fix that issue. Thanks. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 05:21, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

RE: Sig pricing

I've replied :) Anyway, what changes did you make? » Sean gorter « game!!

Signature size

Would you please change your signature size from "5pt" to "4pt"? As noted above, large (pointsize) signatures disrupt normal line spacing. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 17:39, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

My Macintosh (MacBook, running the latest Mac OS) doesn't have French Script, as far as I can tell, and it would cost around $20 to download that font, it appears.
I can view the script using a computer running Windows XP. What is see is that the the capital "D" is sufficiently high as to disrupt the normal line spacing. And I can now see that using this font, 4pt isn't particularly legible. Which may explain why the font is not widely used.
So now I really think you should consider some other font for your signature, preferably one that is legible at a pointsize that doesn't disrupt normal line spacing. It would, of course, be nice if the font was more widely available on other people's computers, but the pointsize is more important - my Mac substitutes another font when it can't find the specified one, and that font is perfectly legible at 4pt, while it is disruptive at 5pt. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 20:21, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
Seconded. Please change your signature; this is disruptive. — Jake Wartenberg 22:27, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
Signature customization is for the benefit of other editors; it makes it easier for them to follow a threaded discussion. That an editor happens to like a particular script or font size is irrelevant if that signature causes problems. There isn't any balancing test here: if your signature makes life difficult for a significant number of editors - and even 2 or 3 percent is significant - then it needs to be changed.
Your example wasn't helpful; unless your signature appears on the third or subsequent line of a paragraph, it's impossible to clearly see its effect on line spacing, and in the example you provided, the signature is in the second line. If you do provide another example, it would also be helpful to know your operating system and browser.
So, to summarize: the problem on a Mac is that the font you're using isn't freely available and the automatically substituted font is disruptive (at 5pt); on a Windows XP using IE7 (I believe; may have been Firefox 3), where the font is visible, it's also disruptive at 5pt; and you seem reluctant to accept the suggestion that you simply change it to 4pt. Is that a correct summary? -- John Broughton (♫♫) 00:15, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
And yes, I was aware of your intention to "charge" for your services by requiring article edits. I hope that the edits that result are in fact worthwhile (it's not clear that you're going to charge in advance of doing work, or after, and, if after, what you're going to do if someone fails to "pay"), and that in fact editors do more article edits than they otherwise would (because if they do the same amount that they were originally intending to do, then your "price" will have had no effect).
So, to conclude; you know my position, and I see no point in discussing the matter further. I have other things to do that more directly involve the improvement of Wikipedia than trying to get one editor to change a signature. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 20:55, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Thirded. On my MacBook, the signature comes up absolutely huge. It's really excessive. Please shrink it. wadester16 | Talk→ 01:12, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Creativity on Userboxes

In answer to your question, i have no idea how many flavours I will end up making - as many as I manage to think of, or that get suggested to me. I would prefer that other users didn't add flavours to my template (just because it makes it hard to keep track of what flavours there are - you are welcome to edit existing flavours) but you can request any flavours you want, or else you could use the formatting from my page to create more flavours in your own userspace. In fact, the original format for the flavoured userboxes is one I copied from Editor 510.

And my favourite fruit is watermelon, although my favourite flavour available as a userbox is cinnamon. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 09:04, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

A randomised userbox would be great, so long as there is still a way to display a particular flavour if people want to. I have added the Starfruit flavour - I hope you like it! Also, I don't see any problem with your signature - it's a big, handwriting-style font. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 12:03, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

French Script MT font

In a survey, as of May 2009, of fonts installed on 800 computers, 28 percent overall had this font installed. For the Macintosh systems within the survey, just over one percent had the font installed.

Sorry, I'm not interested in installing a font for this case, or, for that matter, for any editor who decides to use a non-standard font. Or even just for the smaller subset of editors who use a non-standard font in a way that disrupts line spacing, and won't change the font or its pointsize despite multiple complaints. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 20:35, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
I don't recall anyone asking you to download the font. Damërung had asked me earlier on my talk page how his signature looked to him. Just pointing out it looks fine now that I have installed the font he is using. I particularly like having new fonts instead of just the out-of-the-box fonts that come with an operating system. His signature issue brought about a new font for my computer so I can't complain. I do agree though that most people don't have the font so he should reduce the size of his signature to accomodate everyone, but no big deal if he doesn't. The Wiki still isn't broken. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 21:30, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

I created the page Vandalism warnings, redirecting it to Wikipedia:Vandalism#Warnings. Regarding I do not understand this.... are you seriously blocked??: for the crux of the matter, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Copyright Cleanup/Allstarecho. Then check his talk page history and see consistent refusal to acknowledge or help. There are more details available, but that should cover the basics.  Frank  |  talk  12:15, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

This was in direct response to a comment Damërung made; that isn't canvassing. Best idea: focus on the encylopedia.  Frank  |  talk  16:05, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Regarding the talk page issue

There's Bugboy52.40 replying to the issue on the bottom of your shoutbox, and I'm replying to the same issue on the top. As our comments are getting longer and longer, mebbe we should move this one to a common section on your main talk page. just a little insignificant 14:36, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Shoutbox template idea

I am righting here so I could show you my idea

First you could make the template page using {{{1}}}, were you could add messages like; which would add the message.
{{Shoutbox|

  • Verba
  • Et plus verba

}}

Second, you could add special words that add the title of the page to change whatever you need done. Bugboy52.4 | =-= 20:41, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

I´m not very sure of what you´re trying to say, but it would be a great idea if you make the shoutbox you´re imagining (perhaps first in a sandbox), then I can see what were you meaning. I could modify my shoutbox then, but more important, if you make a totally different one, I could add it here, when I finish that project (soon). - Damërung ...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_ . --  21:07, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Once agian I must say I am sorry, I am testing my template on my user page and it should save space from the edit box, becuase your shoutbox uses up a lot of space with all that syntax. Bugboy52.4 | =-= 22:26, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Alrighty then, I fixed up all the bugs. It doesn't look anydifferent, as you can see on my talk page, and you can see how to edit it, tell me what you think. Bugboy52.4 | =-= 23:19, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

It works on mine too, stealing the template from User:Bugboy52.40/sandbox. And it doesn't clutter up the editing space. For example:

{{User:Bugboy52.40/sandbox|

  • Hello, my name is Tiffany Wonderbundle! ~~~~
  • Awesome! I forget what my name is. ~~~~

}}

would produce a shoutbox with the text "Hello, my name is Tiffany Wonderbundle!, etc." in it. So for applied usage on a page, you would input easy spacing between comments and it would look like a normal discussion. It works and looks the same on a page, but less clutter when adding messages or editing. I'm having a hard time explaining it here, just view the source for Bugboy's talk page. just a little insignificant 15:47, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Re:Template for a shoutbox!

I feel like I went behind your back when I made the template and asked around, but I thought a collaboration would be nice and to get other's opinions. I am currently working on those bugs dam you bugs..., to me the bug with the sig is a paradox, it is truly perplexing, while everything else can be easily fixed. Bugboy52.4 | =-= 03:16, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

I have identified the problem, if you notice in my sig, the straight dash ( | ), is conflicting with the box syntax, it thinks that anything in front of | is apart of the box. Is there any way to move |} above the text? Bugboy52.4 | =-= 03:39, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
What do you mean with 'above text'? Perhaps you can try this:
<nowiki>|</nowiki>
for the pipe mark. But still, my signature doesn´t have any pipe mark and still affect the shoutbox (do you think we should move this conversation to the general discussion in your talk page (so others can see it))? - Damërung ...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_ . --  04:22, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

If you wish, I can place it in a more un-hindering space in your talk page. - Damërung ...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_ . --  02:32, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the kind offer, maybe I'll get a shoutbox some time, but for the moment I'll stick with things as they are. I'm still not too sure if I'm really going to be that active on Wikipedia, have to see how things go. Polly (Parrot) 14:17, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

RE: Your note on my talk page

Hey there, first off, I would like you thank you for the barnstar :) and in order to get text onto a page that will only show up when you enter edit mode you have to create an editnotice, instructions and templates you can use can all be found here and you can view my edit notice here. I hope this helps, and if you want any help on creating your own editnotice or help in general, feel free to ask :). All the Best, Mifter (talk) 04:18, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello (2)

Hey, thanks for commenting at FPC. There aren't a lot of users who comment there regularly, as you've probably gathered, so need all the help we can get (I haven't been active there for a couple months :(). Anyway, I noticed you had the Mt. Redoubt picture which I nominated at FPC a couple months ago, a higher quality version (the actual FP) is here. ceranthor 18:29, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes, i actually like that picture, and i see that the second one is brighter than the older one that i have... but i can see the image shows some noise, therefore i´m thinking in nominating it to be delisted from the featured pictures (because of the noise). I know that you only nominate it and it´s not your own work, but what do you think about this? - Damërung ...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_ . --  19:57, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Re:Secret page barnstar/Wikilove

Thanks! The barnstar itself looks cool and intriguing, but I'm still iffy about hauling it around in the shoutbox. I'm one of those people who doesn't like scrolling side-to-side, and feels awkward when doing so.

And I've been making something for you!

I tailored it specifically for you, making another one for Bugboy next. a little insignificant 02:21, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Your signature

Your current signature (using bright yellow and an odd font) is very difficult to read. Please adjust it. Thanks! --MZMcBride (talk) 02:44, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Ughhh... not again! Why my signature is always disruptive?! (⇦ soliloquy)
Fine!! I´ll change it once more!
By the way, you should have used my shoutbox to post a small comment like this one. -(you should use one too) - Damërung ...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_ . --  04:48, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
If you can't create a reasonable signature, please use the default. The current version really isn't acceptable. --MZMcBride (talk) 04:54, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
I was just trying to be original... But well, whatever, don´t worry, I´ll change it and make a new one, and I will keep doing that if the comunity keeps finding my signature unacceptable. - Damërung ...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_ . --  18:06, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Image for delist

Thanks for your note, but it isn't my image. I just made an edit to it. --Janke | Talk 08:13, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Oh well, I thought that you were the actual photographer. By the way, the only reason to make this (apparently unnecessary) reply is to tell you that for small comments like this one (yours) please use my shoutbox, that´s its purpose and it prevents overflooding in my talk page. - Damërung ...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_ . --  18:06, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi

Hello Damërung! I have figured out why *$Marie*Night*Fox$* is having problems with her shoutbox! In case you haven't figured out, a * in wikicode is a bullet and one of the *s in her username is causing a bullet to appear? Do you think that is correct, or am I wrong? --Sushiflinger (Goldblattster) (talk!) 14:25, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Well, i was waiting for a response from *$Marie*Night*Fox$* before watching to the source code to figure out what is the problem, but actually, that what you say sounds good, surely that´s the problem. - Damërung ...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_ . --  18:06, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
So... WAS THAT THE PROBLEM? :-) --Sushiflinger (Goldblattster) (talk!) 21:19, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Surely. - Damërung ...ÏìíÏ..._Ξ_ . --  14:04, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
