Stoopid Monkey Logos

As you are probably aware, the Stoop!d Monkey page was the subject of an AfD and the result was, of course, "Keep". Currently, the logos are a point of contention with myself saying that they were part of the "Keep", while User:Calton saying they were to be dropped and the article was to remain.

I asked the admin who closed the AfD his opinion and he replied, "I just said the article was to be kept, I don't know about the logos". There wasn't a decision given on the logos and in the AfD only 3 users said the logos should go, only 1 said keep the article, lose the logos.

I am not sure how to handle this, but since the admin who closed the AfD made no decision and the AfD wasn't about the logos in the first place (and the majority said to keep the logos if you want to be picky about it, as far as I can tell).

This wasn't an issue from April 16th (immediately after the AfD) to May 3rd when User:Calton realized that I was blocked for 48hours (not related to this) and I couldn't revert his changes. User:Calton had no interest and made no changes on the page itself or the talk page during that time. So, to me, his initial revert on May 3rd was done because of my block.

I have asked two admins (in case one is offline) to revert his changes and put a block on the page until this can be worked out. I am also asking you, since you contributed to the AfD, what your opinion is on just the logos themselves. I appericate you input one way or the other. Thanks...SVRTVDude (VT)

I thought my opinion was made pretty clear at Talk:Stoopid_Monkey#Another outside view... DHowell 07:22, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
I wanted to make sure that you hadn't changed your mind and that I understood you correctly. In case you are wondering, I am asking all who commented/voted on the AfD at the suggestion of an admin. Thanks for your opinion. Have a Good Weekend....SVRTVDude (VT) 08:52, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:JML TheMusicStation.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:JML TheMusicStation.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 16:46, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Removing TV logos

These images had been tagged as {{non-free use disputed}} since April 29 at the latest (and many were older than that). That tag allows a week for the issue to be fixed before another admin is to review the use. Incidentally, the logos could probably be justified for use in the main article about the corporation, but for another station it does not serve any purpose in identification or critical commentary, and thus should be removed. (ESkog)(Talk) 01:07, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

About the fair use controversy

If you feel that the actions of ESkog (talkcontribspage movesblock userblock log) are disruptive, you should read Wikipedia:Resolving disputes and consider the options open to you. The first line of that document is "Try to avoid arguments. When this is not possible, try talking privately to those involved, or take a deep breath and sleep on it." That doesn't always work, however. --TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 02:25, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Eskog replied here, so I'll assume good faith that he will, as he says, notify the project in the future about any other such images that are tagged. I don't intend to take this any further at this time. DHowell 02:47, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

I also restored Image:Bigkmart.jpg. Again, please add a fair use rationale immediately or I will have to delete the image again. TomTheHand 18:35, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: Orphaned image deletion

Please see WP:FUC item number 7. It must be used in at least one article, or it fails compliance. Under Non-Compliance, it states that any image failing the criteria can be deleted within 48 hours of notification of the uploader. As BetacommandBot notifies uploaders, that 48 hour criteria has been met for those date ranges you mentioned. It is WP:CSD that is out of compliance. ^demon[omg plz] 21:59, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Frosty & Frank, by 209.59.32.65 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Frosty & Frank fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

This article is duplicative of Frosty, Heidi & Frank and appears to share a talk page with the other article. There may be a technical glitch as to why the two articles co-exist.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Frosty & Frank, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 18:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Howdy! On the Anna Svidersky AfD you expressed sentiments to keep the content regarding the notability of the aftermath following her death. I recently created the Mourning sickness article with a section ascribed to Svidersky and the reaction to her death. My intent is to respect the content that you and other "Keep advocates" have wished to retain but still maintain the encyclopedic focus on what is actually notable about Anna Svidersky. If you have an opportunity, feel free to review the article and give me any feedback about what I can do to improve it. AgneCheese/Wine 08:41, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Trivia

Hey DHowell,

Thanks for clarifying the history of "Wikipedia is not a trivia collection" as you did here. Lately, I have been troubled by the large numbers of mass AFD nominations and text purges under the WP:NOT rationale. It's clear after your message that something went awry after links were changed with no preceeding discussion. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The US network TV schedule articles, where 96 articles were mass nominated for deletion at the same time without a blink of an eye from the community, while several users linked to the wrong policy during the debate, indicates this has become a huge problem. I don't know how to fix it, but knowing where the problem started in the beginning helps. Firsfron of Ronchester 16:46, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your support. You might also want to see the discussion I opened up at Wikipedia talk:Five pillars#The origin and meaning of "Wikipedia is not a trivia collection". DHowell 20:47, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Anna Svidersky part deux II

Howdy! I hope you don't mind the second interruption but there is currently a Request for comment on the talk page of the Svidersky article aimed at resolving disagreements over the outcome of the last AfD. We'd like to get some additional input so that we can amicably resolve those disagreements and your thoughts would be greatly appreciated by all the editors on the Svidersky page. Thank you for your time. AgneCheese/Wine 15:10, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use disputed for Image:Analysis Group.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Analysis Group.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:35, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

I've reverted the bot's "dispute" tag as the image already had a fair-use rationale. DHowell 03:27, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

TfD nomination of Template:Trivia

Template:Trivia has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. I have read your comments on the talk page of WP:NOT and your comments on the talk page of WP:5P regarding the statement "Wikipedia is not a trivia collection" and I think your input would be valuable in the discussion of the Trivia template since many people believe that the template is strongly supported by policy. --Pixelface 17:19, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Why is the List of programs broadcast by MyNetworkTV page considered for deletion?

Exactly why is the List of programs broadcast by MyNetworkTV page considered for deletion? AdamDeanHall 13:57, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Because someone nominated it for deletion. Note that I am trying to keep it from being deleted, so please help by contributing to the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of programs broadcast by MyNetworkTV. I see you have been editing for a while, but have not yet participated in the Wikipedia namespace. Before you do so, my best advice is to familiarize yourself with the policies on deletion, what Wikipedia is not, and civility, and remember to stay cool even when facing the apparent incivility of others, and realize that there are arguments which should be avoided in deletion discussions. Reply from JPG-GR's Talk Page

Hey DHowell, you actually have a good point there. I think having the AM's first, then the FM's listed on the template is a good idea. I perfer it that way myself. Think that is something (via a WPRS consensus) we might be able to do for all templates? - NeutralHomer T:C 21:22, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Dude....let's hope enough people come by that talk page and see it (I don't think WPRS's talk page gets much traffic). - NeutralHomer T:C 22:25, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

From our conversation from earlier: As of August, 2007, California has 845 licensed radio stations, the second most in the nation. Figured you might like to know. Have a good one! JPG-GR 02:57, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Figured it had to be Texas if it wasn't California. Cali may have Tex beat in number of markets, though, Wikipedia lists 22 California markets vs. 21 Texas markets. Maybe I'll tackle the Texas radio station list once I'm done with California. DHowell 04:13, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for vote on 74181 AfD...

Thanks for your 'Keep' vote on the AfD page. Also, thanks for the references. Unfortunately, I don't have these books, so it it wouldn't be appropriate for me to add the references myself. I would appreciate it if you could add the references to the article, probably a change to the lead with a ref and an addition to the 'significance' section with a ref. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, that's ok, I'll try to track down the books at the library. 74s181 00:10, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I just realized that one of the references was a web version of one of the books. I added it to the article, could be better but should be enough to establish notability and save the article from deletion. Thanks again! 74s181 00:34, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

The keep votes were largely WP:ILIKEIT, WP:INTERESTING, and WP:PERNOM, but you know I've said that already. :) Cited reasons for keeping the article included a wealth of references, notability, There were a few weak reasons for deletion (WP:IHATEIT, a lack of references, original research, a bad title, self-referencing), but the ones that went largely opposed were unencyclopedic content, synthesis, and the fact that this content is qualitative and covered quantitatively elsewhere. Although the article didn't really advance any position, it was collected in an arbitrary fashion which I believe violated the synthesis policy because the said fashion has not been previously published... and that was the hinge point I used. I am not opposed to anybody userfying the article; nor am I opposed to a merge into an article on motion. If you can find a source that collects such information like this, I'll overturn the deletion myself; otherwise you can go to deletion review. Cheers, east.718 at 22:38, 11/15/2007

Notability Standard for Radio and TV Stations

After being struck down in his attempt to have the articles on radio stations WRNY and WRRC deleted, Mr.Z-man has made an attempt at changing the notability standard for Radio and TV stations. This is a REALLY bad idea. This puts not only the work of WP:WPRS, but the work of WP:TVS, and potentially Wikipedia itself at risk. We need to let Mr.Z-man know that changing the notability standard for Radio and TV stations is a bad idea...REALLY bad idea. - NeutralHomer T:C 23:42, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

...and obviously he isn't done. - NeutralHomer T:C 23:51, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Re: {{USRadio}}

IIRC, the only two pages left of List of radio stations in STATE by market area are California and Ohio, possibly one or two more. So, don't let those blue links fool you - they're redirects. Good luck with whatever you intend to use that template for. JPG-GR (talk) 07:13, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I realize that most of the blue links are redirects (although it seems that in most cases you are the one who made them redirects... I appreciate that you left the California one alone though). I'm proceding much slower than I'd like, but I intend to get to other states eventually. I hope you appreciate that I believe we have similar goals here, we're just approaching them from different perspectives and at a much different rate. DHowell (talk) 23:32, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Useless 0s

I insist on removing them because when I was in school, we learned in math class that 18.910=18.91. It's the same figure but with less space taken up. That last zero is redundant! If someone CAN'T figure that out then they should go back to math class! On modern ham radios you can display a frequency to the 10Hz range, so therefore we should accommodate them too & list it as 18.91000! I have no time for people who clutter up these frequencies with useless cyphers. 18.91 are the only USEFUL numbers! The zeros are just there to make the number look "pretty" (all will have 3 digits to the right instead of some having 2). WBCQ can list the frequency in kc. too but it will still be 5.11, 7.415, 9.33 & 18.91Mc.! Yes, I also prefer that when you go over 1000 you go up to kilo, Mega, Giga, etc. but drop the numerals so that it's, say, 1.45 billion instead of 1,450 million. I'm going with math class on this one. Frequencies in MHz (S.W., A.M.'s a different matter) & only useful digits. 0-9 BEFORE the decimal, 1-9 AFTER the decimal! Not even to signify that it's dead on, like 147.0! Nope, just 147! Anyway, I am familiar with significant numbers as they are used in physics. This is radio though. I can't even imagine anyone being confused on 18.91/18.910. I mean, where else would one look on a radio if that 3rd decimal is missing? Then again, some people probably think 18.910 is .819 higher than 18.91 (eighteen point nine-hundred-ten vs. eighteen point ninety-one).Stereorock (talk) 01:34, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
