Hitler the reader[edit]

You are right, of course, Cyta; my point here was by way of a comic aside (in a highly comic thread!). To be honest with you I do not believe that Hitler was ever much of a reader, of any kind of material, even Nietzsche. The 'reading' in question was actually that of Joseph Goebbels, who recited passages to the Führer from Carlyle's tome-like History of Friedrich II of Prussia in the dying days of the Third Reich. Hitler's own reading preferences were very light indeed, including the work of his beloved Karl May, a boyhood favourite whose books remained in his bedside collection to the end. So now you know!
