Links[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. --Ronz (talk) 17:28, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Cedar Island Light, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Cedar Point County Park. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally moving or duplicating content, please be sure you have followed the procedure at Wikipedia:Splitting by acknowledging the duplication of material in edit summary to preserve attribution history.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Horse Island (Sacketts Harbor) Light[edit]

I'm reviewing new pages. I came across this article that you created. I don't know whether you realize, but in some sense this is a negative step: it causes someone else more work than you put in it. I presume you cut-and-pasted the material. But I'm not sure whether it was from a copyrighted source. That's a big problem, because it means to fix it (or even to mark it patrolled) I would have to do research. Then, there's the task of actually fixing the non-standard formatting and content. I'm not an expert on the subject, so again, I would need to work carefully. So, if it took you 15 minutes to create the page, it would probably take me an hour to fix it. Whereas, if I had created it myself, I could have created it in 15 minutes, just as you did. But it wouldn't need another hour's work. Marking the article as "patrolled" has been avoided by other editors for days, so there's a good chance this article will just roll into the not-so-good Wiki article status, and stay there indefinitely. All that aside, the information looks interesting, and certainly better than a lot of the stubs which give the reader pretty much nothing interesting, so I'd encourage you, who probably is in the best position, to do a little more spit-and-polish. Regards, Piano non troppo (talk) 17:52, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The text is from the USCG site, the second link on the page, and I will clean it up as my time permits. I've had a few things delay that work. Ahwiv (talk) 01:19, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Light vs Lighthouse[edit]

I will not. The discussion you linked hardly came to a definitive conclusion; you can see that the issue was re-raised in 2008, but the stated concerns were never really addressed. Furthermore, this particular article has a number of mitigating circumstances, primarily that it is a retired light and thus the Coast Guard doesn't have any authority over its name. Besides, the article is clearly about the building, not the light at its pinnacle. In sum, WP:COMMONNAME trumps a 3-year-old discussion on a talk page as far as having community support. Powers T 19:15, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Burton C. Gray has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Disambiguation link notification (for Ahwiv)[edit]

Hi, this message is to let you know about disambiguation links you've recently created. A link to a disambiguation page is almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. For more information, see the FAQ or drop a line at the DPL WikiProject.

Any suggestions for improving this automated tool are welcome. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 18:35, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on List of Grand Line of the Grand Lodge of New York requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. MSJapan (talk) 23:19, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removing "alt" from image[edit]

Thanks for your edit to Church of St John the Baptist, Frome but I wondered why you removed the "alt" label from the description of the image? Wikipedia:Accessibility dos and don'ts says it is good practice to "provide alt text and a caption for most images". My understanding this helps those use text to speech readers understand what is in the image.— Rod talk 07:11, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Rodw The format used didn't support an alt text. didn't notice alt= parm is the proper way, but have resolved that. Thanks. Ahwiv (talk) 10:37, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

coordinates of Lancaster Cathedral[edit]

Yes, I'd just worked out that the coords have been presented in the correct way a bit further down the infobox - sorry about that. Something about the wording of your edit summary made me think you were just removing coords because the parameters weren't recognised! PamD 15:22, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.
