Plot[edit]

Hi there, where did this plot summary come from? It's unusual for a giant plot to be dropped into an article without any history of its evolution. Also, the level of detail is far higher than we need. The preferred length is 400-700 words. The content you added was over 6600 words, or almost 9 1/2 times the usual maximum. A related problem with this sort of detail, is that such content could be considered "derivative works", which would potentially be a copyright violation. For this reason, I have to remove the addition, but I'm still curious from where the content originated. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 02:42, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Cyphoidbomb 02:42, 21 November 2018 (UTC) - You have asked me where did the plot summary come from ? Well, I narrated the same out of memory after having watched this movie multiple times. It would never amount to a copyright violation or "Derivative Works" as you have mentioned. You have also mentioned "It's unusual for a giant plot to be dropped into an article without any history of its evolution". Yes, it could seem unusual because this was done at one go in about 6 hours after consolidating the summary from memory for reasons mentioned above. What is an acceptable level of detail ? I wish to know why you cannot request the contributor to make the changes instead of getting the contents down ? "Where the contents originated?". It originated in my memory by the virtue of watching the movie multiple times and not from any other source on the INTERNET (if that is your assumption and I would be well aware that it would be a copyright violation). What changes need to be done to revert the changes back on the page ? I would definitely not appreciate the contribution being taken down.

OK, I appreciate your explanation that this is a summary of your own hand. However, excessive plot summaries, even if you write them by yourself, are still potentially derivative works, and if you've read the explanation, you'll understand why. That's why we err on the side of short. If you want to pare down that summary into a maximum of 700 words, please feel free, but 6600 words is not even close to a reasonable length. Cyphoidbomb - Thank you so much for the revert. I will make the changes as mentioned. Rajesh Chittor 06:27, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
Csriyer, It would be appreciated if you'd please place your replies directly underneath the comment you are responding to, indenting with colons as you see us doing. Please also sign your posts with four tildes like ~~~~, which will automatically append your user name and a time stamp. Signing with the name "Rajesh Chittor" is confusing, because that's not the user name you selected. Thank you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 06:41, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Cyphoidbomb - Thanks. It is early days in Wiki editing after almost a decade and catching up. Thank you for the patience. I remember putting the four tilda's last time as well. For some reason even giving 4 Tilda's (~~~~) is showing up Rajesh Chittor in 'Show Preview'. I am not sure if I am missing something. Rajesh Chittor 07:25, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
I undid your plot addition to 96 (film) – it was still far longer than allowed – and turned off the {{help me}} template you had used on Aboutmovies's talk page. I'm not sure why you posted there. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 06:34, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
jmcgnh - It is exactly 700 words now and the word length has been checked in Microsoft Word. On the related note, I can bring to your attention literally hundreds of movie plots there that are well over 700 words and stable. I am surprised why only this got picked today for so many revisions. I guess consistency should be the key here. Rajesh Chittor 07:28, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
I agree, it's now 700 words. There are other aspects of the plot summary that appear to involve some synthesis, describing what you thought was happening in the minds of the characters rather than simply what appears on the screen. I'm sure that will get worked on as time goes on. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 08:02, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
