What I meant is, is that via Google he's completely nn, but strictly speaking according to WP:BIO it can be kept. That's why I brought it up on AfD rather than prod or db. Hope this clears things up. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 05:11, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Islam & blocking IP[edit]

I just looked at the Islam history, and that IP does look suspicious. I see he has been warned. If that IP does vandalize again, put a note on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism and the IP will be blocked. -- JamesTeterenko 05:39, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

James M. Cowan[edit]

Yes, you're correct. I was mistaken to use the A8 for this. Clearly the content isn't from a commercial site. Thanks for pointing this out. I've removed the speedy tag from the page. I'm curious though. Even though the page from which the content is taken is a government site, it does assert a copyright. What would be the appropriate action here? Mark it as a copy-vio until permission is granted? Or does the fact it's a government site mean copyright is irrelevant? ScottW 08:25, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

K.A.D. Camara[edit]

I will get back to you soon on the Norfolk Island article; in the meanwhile, I'd direct your attention to the closure of the Camara AfD as delete; the closer appears to have concluded that where a personnage is notable only in view of his/her tie to a specific incident, our article ought to focus on the incident (as against on the person); of course, I wrote that in defense of keep, since that reasoning had been rejected in other AfDs. In any event, where the consensus seems to be that the event, and not the person, is notable, I would think that the proper disposition would be to move the article to some new title and then to edit it accordingly. I'm sure, though, that if someone wants to create an article w/r/to the controversy, a friendly admin will copy the text of the erstwhile article to userspace. I can't say to a certainty that I think the incident to be notable (you will recall we differed with respect to whether Camara was notable as an academic), but I think a case for notability could be made. Joe 20:42, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem[edit]

Dude, no offence taken. I do like to think that our userpages are somewhere to be at least a little creative, and anything that could be regarded as badly judged was a) put up in good humour quite some time ago, and b) removed accordingly. Accordingly, I am a little disappointed to see comments that say "excellent article contributor and maintenance guy, but something on his userpage a while ago isn't the best judged quote I've ever seen and outweighs everything else", but absolutely demand that editors have the freedom to vote on these things as they see fit. Anyway, thanks for responding, I hope to prove my judgement and dedication are sound and unswerving in the future, and befitting of an administrator on the English Wikipedia. I've already learned a lot through this process, and have taken both the positive and the constructive on board. Спасибо, Deizio talk 22:08, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I deprodded this article. I have a hard time verifying the information, but I do get some hits, and if the claims are true he's likely notable as an author. The page was already userfied, and may violate WP:AUTO, but if it's on a notable topic, it might be better to keep it. Mangojuicetalk 15:45, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. BTW, I was confused; it wasn't userfied, but the article was moved from Agus r. sarjono to Agus R. Sarjono. We'll see what happens. :) Mangojuicetalk 16:01, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Really? I personally have userfied a few pages on my own when they're obvious candidates.... WP:IAR and WP:BOLD seem to apply; why waste the community's time when the outcome is obvious? In a case like this, though, where real notability is claimed, I agree it would be wrong to userfy without a debate though. Mangojuicetalk 16:06, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, WP:UFY is just a proposal, not policy. But this is an interesting issue; I'm taking it to Wikipedia talk:Userfication because I think we might be making a mistake with that policy. Mangojuicetalk 16:15, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The AFD closed as I was updating the article, but in any case I wikified, categorized, and bibliographied it. I don't know if that would have been enough to change your vote to a keep, but at least I hope that makes you feel better about leaving it in the Wikipedia. User Page Changes[edit]

Per the numerous comments regarding potential proselytization on my user page, I have decided to remove entirely the section regarding the steps in my conversion to Islam. I welcome additional comments on what you believe may be construed as proselytization. Thanks in advance. joturner 23:02, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think rmving it was a good idea, though it wasn't the proselytization per se that I found objectionable, but the stridency that called your judgment into question, so to that extent the damage had been done. I am very sorry to put you through RfA purgatory, but that's what you get for standing! :) One day I will be scrutinized as well... BTW, have you ever read The Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man by James Weldon Johnson? The autobiographic portion of your page is extremely well written, and is strangely reminiscent of that book. If you haven't read it, I recommend it strongly. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 03:07, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No I haven't read The Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man. Perhaps I'll read it. (And then I'll work to improve the article for it!) joturner 03:23, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the complete citation, not sure why you couldn't find it; it's in both Nexis and the NYT's own database. I argue for notability on the grounds that this case regularly appears in lists of tort awards that justify reforming our tort system. The woman's name does not appear in a lot of these articles, probably because she wasn't named in the New York Times article, but the case is unambiguously recognizable. A quick googling turns up several hundred references of this type, in blogs, mass e-mails, and the conventional press.

As for the copyright violation, it was inadvertent and should, of course, be corrected. Uucp 04:24, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I already re-inserted the NYT citation with complete details; nothing more to do there. If you are willing to tackle the copyright cleanup, I'd appreciate it. Uucp 04:27, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No insult intended, I meant it as good-hearted ribbing. Thanks for checking the citation; that's more than a lot of people would have done. Uucp 04:28, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedies[edit]

Hi. I've deleted Chula. However, I've left Image:Krayze.jpg - I've only been an admin a couple of days and I've not moved on to the slightly more dangerous area of image deletion yet. Although I agree that it should go, I can't see that it matches any of the image speedy deletion criteria - I suspect it should be tagged as an orphan and left for seven days. —Whouk (talk) 13:08, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think perhaps my reluctance is that a db-band can go for failing to assert notability and could be recreated a day later as a full, sourced article that reveals that the band actually is notable, but the image couldn't be undeleted. However, I take the point :-) Perhaps there should be a new CSD criterion for images that are only relevant to speedily deleted articles. —Whouk (talk) 13:57, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PROD patrol[edit]

Hey -- thanks for signing up for the PROD patrol project! If you want to coordinate with us, the easiest think is to go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Proposed Deletion Patrolling/tasks (or include {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Proposed Deletion Patrolling/tasks}} on your userpage), and go there when you feel like patrolling prod. I've divided the alphabet into four parts, each chunk of which will amount to around 40 articles typically. Even if you don't do a whole chunk, but just leave a note saying how much you've done, it would help us not overlap so much. (IMO, the whole {{prod2}} thing doesn't work so great; once you see it, you might as well look at the article anyway.) Also, thanks for signing my pledge, and happy (almost) birthday! Camara AfD[edit]

Crzrussian, I'm pretty sure you can make legitimate suggestions about extending the AfD for the article without having to get on your soapbox and deride me behind my back[3]. If it's any indication, your demeanor also drives me crazy- if you read anything I've placed on your talk page lately, you can see that my tone is one of consensus building, or trying to solve this problem between us, while little barbs like these from you demonstrate your lack of ability to work with others, especially those who have different opinions from you. In my months of editing on Wikipedia, I have never a more pompous editor who has such terrible faith in others and one who will stop at nothing to let their opinions prevail:

  • Everytime you thought I was attacking you, it was really just a misunderstanding on your part. I have tried multiple times to politely explain my intentions but you push me away.
  • I think it is more than clear that your accusation of me as a sockpuppet has been unfounded. I told you multiple times that I have a dynamic IP. The sockpuppetry case has been around for more than 3 weeks now and has been absolutely untouched- a testament to how inconclusive your "evidence" is, or lack thereof. If the community determines that I indeed have been sockpuppeting, I'd have no choice but to accept your derision of me as one, but until that actually happens, I'd appreciate you not prematurely labeling me as a sockpuppet.

As a side note, the contention between us should have no effect on anyone's opinion regarding the AfD. Multiple users who decided the article should be kept or deleted had opinions that were virulently different from ours. The AfD was already relisted once. Not to mention, Rasputin himself explained that he chose to delete the article not necessarily based on the number of votes, but at his own discretion. I'm trying to put our argument aside, but your constant exploitation of it leaves me no choice but to respond like this. The fact that you're falsely accusing me of certain acts and asking other editors to snub me out of participating in a community-built encyclopedia is reprehensible.

I'm tired of you constantly harassing me on Wikipedia, directly and indirectly. I told you if you left me alone, I'd leave you alone. Please consider those words wisely.

A legitimate suggestion on my part: If things don't go your way and Kiwi Alejandro Camara stays deleted, you can still make edits to the article in someone's userspace here and maybe resubmit it for recreation later on to see if it reaches an admin's content. -- ßίζ·קּ‼ (talk | contribs) 18:34, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NN HS Music Director[edit]

What does NN HS Music Director mean?

And why on earth would you propose that an article be deleted praising such a great man? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mgkwho (talkcontribs) .

Fr Guiao[edit]

Oh, ok. So because you don't personally know the man and he's not famous in the eyes of the world that automatically makes him unimportant.

Well I advise you that he's a very important man in our community, and Wikipedia is not just for historical, nationally famous people. Although he is nationally recognized. Just because I didn't list all of his accomplishments does not mean he is not important. The article is meant for further elaboration as the years grow.

I created the Fr. Guiao and 'Cat-o'-tonic' sections because they are indeed important in the 'Ohio' section. The Ohio section calls for all levels of importance down to the local level.

If you propose his deletion one more time I will presonally appeal to the mods.

Regards, Mgkwho

Hangon is mainly used for people who created the article and don't want it deleted or peoplewho just isn't that sure if the article qualifies, anybody can remove speedy tags if they clearly not speedy canditates. The only thing you can't do is remove the tag if it's your own article, unless is WP:POINT and I been around a long time to know this.
