Wikimania isn't my sort of thing, can't see joining the crowds and kneeling in subservience to Jimbo (I just got the commentary off Wikipediocracy, that was quite enough). Hope you enjoyed it though. But if you have some time now that you've returned from the Land of the Octopus Card and Cheap Tailors, could you look in at the peer review of Grace Sherwood, not necessarily of blessed memory? You could have woken me to say you were going - it wouldn't have mattered. You didn't miss anything at the beach - unless jumping up and down to very loud unmusical modern music is your thing (I'm at least 50 years too old for that - I got stuck somewhere between Hard Rock, BeBop, Funk, and Fusion Jazz). Image question

Hi Crisco, I'd like to get some images of Basil Rathbone in his Sherlock Holmes series of films. Four of the films fell out of copyright in the 1970s and are therefore in in the public domain.   • Slightly confusing, but not at the time by the original holders, as far as I can see. There were subsequent copyrights made - one for the colourised version and one for the newly-released UCLA restored copies. - SchroCat (talk) 16:04, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
  • The issue with these is that the copyright renewal may not be online in the government's database but in books twenty-... seven years later. You'd have to check those first. Royal Canin

Hi Crisco, I wonder if you would be able to advise me please? I think the Royal Canin article may have some (most?) of the present text copied mainly from the Thoenig book, so I don't think it likely the book copied the article. As far as I can tell, the lead may be copied; all except the last para of the 'Brief company history'; all of the sections 'Veterinary Expertise' and 'Veterinary and Peer-Reviewed Journal Research'; and the sentence at the start of the 'Factories' list. I've included the refs in the article for where I think it's taken from. The sections on 'Recalls' and 'Controversial sponsorship' are okay. The article has gone up and down in size as at one point someone had added over 2800 characters to include all the varieties of products. I have drafted a new version in my sandbox but I'm also toying with the idea of doing a DYK for it (if it has previously been copied) but I don't know how that gets worked out - or would I have to do a x5 expansion on the character count of the current version (something I'd never manage!)? You say above that "I will respond to all good faith, civil messages", so I will attempt to respond in that manner. First, I don't promote my own articles at FOUR. So I can't speak for other editors. However, of the 800 or so articles that we believe to have passed DYK, GA and FA, I believe I have done 90% of the evaluations. I thought I was clear that your confusion lies in your lack of familiarity with the FAQs at WT:FOUR. I was referring to FAQ5 at Wikipedia talk:Four Award/FAQ where it states with italics for emphasis that "Collaborating on starting an article involves being productively involved in the transition from a redlink to the point of the article's first edit which gives it encyclopedic content". This is meant to say that non-vandal edits between the redlink and the first edit which gives encyclopedic content. Time of creation is a "new rule" by which no article has ever been evaluated. It will be at issue in the RFC when it goes live. Editors are free to endorse your 24-hour rule if they so choose. Also, please provide me a diff to the comment that you point out above. The first two-thirds of that diff talks about my intended and actual enforcement of the rule. The latter third talks about other stuff at issue in the forthcoming RFC. That is entirely consistent with the FAQ5.
        2. this You conveniently edited to end with "Then credit that editor..." but failed to note that it says "Then credit that editor and all editors with earlier edits to that page with the creation stage." Again, collaboration is defined by being involved prior to the first encyclopedic edit.

Yet another DYK Q?

Topic ban

Hi Crisco. We've long had a problem with a disgruntled editor WikiWatcher/Light show with the Peter Sellers article. Basically he was miffed that we expanded his C class article and improved it to FA status. Since he's done little but troll the talk page and creating unnecessary drama and has a serious grudge. I definitely think it's time that we request that he be topic banned from Peter Sellers given that he frequently causes disruption and time wasting and there is a wealth of evidence to prove this. Thinking about a "Million Award" --talk page stalkers welcome

All this talk about user awards has me thinking. I keep jabbering on about how we neglect the highest-traffic articles, and I often want to award users who pass a particularly high-traffic article through GA or FA, but to my knowledge nothing specific for that exists. (I usually just give a barnstar with a lot of added text.) It seems wrong that there's no talk page bling for that; I know the Core Contest works on this issue, but that seems to run only intermittently.

So I'm thinking of creating a related trio of awards like a "Quarter Million Award", a "Half Million Award", and a "Million Award". They could be given as barnstars and/or userboxes any time a qualifying article is brought to GA, A-class, or FA that can be projected to attain that level of annual readership, minus main page appearances. (That averages to 20834 readers/month, 41667 readers/month, and 83334 readers/month for the three levels.) Ideally the award would:

  1. give a fun social incentive (i.e., bragging rights) for tackling a high-traffic article
  2. be an encouraging reminder of the huge volume of readers helped by our work

To avoid time-wasting drama, the award wouldn't be policed or formally supervised in any way beyond basic page maintenance; if someone extrapolates from an unnaturally high-traffic month, does the math wrong, or claims something they didn't do much work on, so be it. We could keep a list at the award page of awarded articles/editors, but note that the award is only for encouragement, that disputes should always be avoided, and that anyone is welcome to add their own work or another's work to the list. Some Justin Bieber songs, recent movies, and the like will end up awarded alongside long-term vital articles, but even that's at least high-readership content. Obviously, I'd exclude myself from eligibility as the award's creator.

I'll draw something up in my sandbox and run it by a few places like WT:GAN for comment, but I thought I'd pick the hive brain of your talk page before venturing into any public forums. Would this be redundant with anything that already exists? Is this a bad idea in a way I'm not currently seeing? -- Khazar2 (talk) 03:20, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

  • That sounds interesting. There could be some overlap with WP:CORE, although that's more of a contest than an award. I am unaware of any awards which duplicate this functionality. I agree that it sounds like a very nice idea, and it would certainly be doable. Although you indicate that you would prefer to keep a little more hands off approach, I note that you should at the very least make it clear how to count page views (average over random 12 months? average over preceding year?) and perhaps have a backup in case the stats tool goes down. I note with concern, however, that articles such as Paris and Tree can lead to a hell of lot of disruption after major changes are made (Tree looks like a CN-bomb wasteland), and that ultimately this community reaction may end up being a greater disissentive than any barnstar-ish thing. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:28, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
  • That's a good point that if the stats tool goes down, this award could be screwed. I'll have to think about how exactly to phrase the counting guidelines, but I intend to keep it fairly loosey-goosey; basically I'm fine with anything in the neighborhood and I want to keep the math simple.   • (talk page stalker) I don't think there's all that much overlap with WP:CORE. CORE addresses some of the big picture articles, like History. CORE isn't intended for the wikigroan fancruft huge views articles that this award would address. Each is hard to accomplish for different reasons. Chris Troutman (talk) 04:56, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
  • True, they do not touch JB or SNSD stuff, but most of the really basic articles also get a heck of a lot of page views. Hence my opinion about overlap.   • I think this idea is fantastic and would greatly help improve WP. I'd be more careful about wanting to keep it "fairly loosey-goosey". For instance, what if there was a rubber stamped GA? would the award get removed following a rapid GAR?   • Thanks! I see what you're saying, but what I imagine in such cases is that it would be up to the editor whether she wants to "keep" the award or not. Hugely-popular articles being listed and then rapidly delisted is rare enough that it shouldn't affect the prestige of the award overall, even if a few people claim awards that they might not deserve. That's my hope, anyway. I don't have any experience overseeing an award, so I may have to see how it works out as I go. -- Khazar2 (talk) 13:29, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

  • I think my plan is to double-check articles that get listed at the main award page to make sure a nomination is not completely crazy (nowhere close in the numbers, or not passed as a GA). If someone posts a "false" award on their user page, I might say something but probably wouldn't pursue it further. A year ago you closed a large fraction of the {{afd}} DBigXray initiated on articles I started, including the article on Sufiyan Barhoumi. I won't repeat here why I thought DBigXray's avalanche of {{afd}} was disruptive. I will point out that other administrators changed the articles to redirects, preserving their contribution history, instead of deletion.

Sufiyan Barhoumi is in the news again:

I think I have abided by the assurance I gave during that discussion, that if I thought there was sufficient new material to justify restoring a deleted article to article space I'd ask for input from other's first.

Hi there. I found your listing on the page Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user/Adoptee's Area/Adopters. A couple things in your listing particularly caught my interest: You are on the welcoming committee, and your comment about French. I'd love to learn more about the welcoming committee and what you do and how you do it. I don't know if you've seen my infamous post in the Teahouse, but my initial experiences here lead me to ask the rather pointed question "Does Wikipedia REALLY want new users??" The responses have been good, and I'm in the process of formulating ideas for a NEW new user experience. Perhaps you may be interested in taking a look at what I've written, both at the Teahouse and on my talk page. I'm very open to feedback, ideas and suggestions from experienced folks, especially those who focus on new users, themselves.

As for French, it was my first language, but I lost it at a young age, and only recently recovered it. I can speak and read it just fine, though writing it is something I need to work on. So your comment about being contacted in French, but responding in English is something I can relate to.

Anyhow, I'm glad to meet you and hope to hear back. Looking forward to working with you in whatever form you'd like to work with ... be it just a few constructive comments on my ideas, collaboration, etc. Thanks!!

Actually, I just removed the adoption box from my page a couple of days ago as I realised that I have not had enough on-Wiki time to be a proper mentor; as such, I don't think I can take you on. I definitely would like to check out your ideas, and see what's being worked towards. Do you have any direct links?
As for an article collaboration... I've actually been working on translating Michael Riffaterre's Semiotics of Poetry and realised that a lot of these poems are likely notable, but not on the English Wikipedia. "Don du Poème" is one example. How do you feel about literature? Hi Crisco, could I ask you to change the wording in your pseudo-RFC question? The restrictions are not on "Gibraltarpedia articles", they are on "Gibraltar-related articles".   • Ah well, there's the complication. The norm for an RFC is a month, not a week. Do you really want to plough through this for the next three and a half weeks? I noticed that you had only called it a pseudo-RFC initially, and that Gatoclass subsequently turned it into a full RFC. But really, as the proponent you should have the final say about whether it's a full RFC, open for a month, or a more limited poll of DYK participants, which would have a more limited timeframe. To be honest I can't see the point of leaving it open for a month given the already overwhelming vote in favour of your proposal. Prioryman (talk) 18:37, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

You are saying that I should remove budgets/collections or I should use exact raw sources. Then he is saying about rate variation between two periods and inflation. He is also saying to simply say crore but, that was changed during PR as it was due to sorting tables that's why we used the current sorting template. The alternative to deletion... inclusion in a consolidated article on the broader topic is not possible with the text and citations deleted. How should one proceed?   • One should have left a note to the like at the AFD. That being said, I don't see how any of these are in-depth coverage about Eakle the man. Several, such as Baltimore Grand Jury 1943 and American Brewer, seem to be passing mentions. Some advice

Hey. I don't really know you but we've obviously run into each other a lot at FAC and other places so I feel OK offering some advice. I think you should let the WP:FOUR RFC and MfD run their course, and then just carry on smartly whatever the result. I also think you should stop making additional posts and threads about it. To be clear, it's not that I don't think you have a point or that there aren't issues. I do not get along with Tony at all and I generally avoid any area where he works. I do this because it's not worth my energy. It's not worth your energy. And to fair, it's not worth Tony's energy either. He has a lot to offer Wikipedia and his time is better spent writing articles and doing whatever else he does. I'm saying this about Tony, but I really want to emphasize it to you as well. Wikipedia needs you writing and reviewing articles. You are an awesome contributor and it makes me sad to see you spending so many cycles on this. --Laser brain (talk) 21:39, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

  • I'll admit, it feels a lot like spinning my wheels to lose my paddle and end up on a boat up Shit Creek (sorry for the mixed metaphors). I had hoped that, with the overwhelmingly negative responses to Tony's behaviour at WT:FOUR (note the talk page, MFD, and both ANI threads) he would realise that he has something he needs to work on improving; it seems such hopes were unfounded, as evidenced by Tony's latest series of posts on the topic which show a feeling of victimisation without recognising that behaviour by both parties was subpar (his response to my direct questions are particularly telling... I doubt we'd allow a new editor who exhibited that degree of a lack of understanding as much leeway).
Thank you for the advice, and I am not planning on creating any more threads regarding Tony at FOUR (although if he misrepresents history like this I will point out that he's wrong... and he can't revert at ANI like he did at his pseudo-RFC). During this latest flare up I've already been doing some reviewing (we've crossed paths at Sherwood, and I did How a Mosquito Operates, and then there's two or three FLCs) and written a GA. Tony's OWNership is not such a big issue that I'd let it take all of my on-Wiki time, and writing articles or lists is much more relaxing than worrying about Tony.

Overwriting images

Crisco, I generally have very little to do with images both on Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia, so I'm not sure what should be done with these two images: File:WillSchuester.JPG and File:Emmapillsbury.JPG (sorry; I don't know how to link without causing them to appear here, so no link). Both files, which had been loaded (or reloaded?) a couple of years ago, were overwritten last week by a new uploader, but there was no attempt to adjust the licensing, and I have no idea of the source(s) for the new files. (I'm also not so fond of the practice that effectively replaces all the uses of a photo by co-opting a file name with a new image: it amounts to a stealth substitution, because it doesn't appear in the article's edit history, even if that isn't the person's intent.)

As for uploading, I'd say that if you consider these new ones preferable to upload them separately with the correct source. I think I'll drop a note suggesting that in the future the guy upload using new file names if he thinks new images are warranted, and take care of proper licensing along the way, rather than overwrite the old ones . Regarding this edit, I was under the impression it was probably a copyvio as well, but I couldn't find a source and wanted to assume good faith. It is possible that this is the author's own well-researched article on the topic. I'd say it might violate WP:OR, but it is well sourced. Really, isn't any Wikipedia article in some sense original research: the editor's own interpretation of the sources available?   • No worries. Well, I subscribe to the precautionary principle when it comes to copyright: if it looks like a copyvio, assume it's a copyvio. In this case, it appears to be a copy/paste from a Word document (note the tabs, which our servers do not allow generation of), the manually-formatted references (although, as this was visual editor, that's not such a strong indicator). The extent of the coverage and speed in which it was added, with no subsequent changes, further supports this position. Even if it were the editor's own publication, my understanding is that (if this has been published) the journal would retain the copyright for it, and if this has not been published but the editor wants it to be published (assuming, again, that they are the writer) a journal would not accept it if it's already on Wikipedia. It's possible that there's salvageable content, so I won't delete the revisions, but I don't feel it would be a good idea to keep that hanging around where all can see it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:00, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

I don't think this is fair- you've left Elekhh's unsupported claim that the image has no copyright problems, yet removed my challenge to that, after you've weighed in on the discussion yourself. I'm not going to revert you, as I agree that the discussion probably doesn't belong there, but I do think there's a problem with leaving Elekhh's very questionable claim outside of the archive, making it look unchallenged. Trouble with Harvard citation

Hi Crisco! This is the first time I've used the above citation format and I'm having a bit of trouble with it in Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (Hong Kong). I've changed all the book sources to Harv. style using the same format throughout, but only one of them works while the other two don't. Could I trouble you to have a quick look? Userfy

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/William E. Eakle I have never used the userfy feature, but I would appreiciate it if you could retrive the text and citations so that the content can be rolled into a broader article. I have created 500 or so articles with very few afd's. I have a pair of new users that are very focused on deleting specific people in Howard County, starting with a strange round of blanking from a new HCPIO account (Howard County Public Information Office), then de-linking and citation removal, timed Afd's, then bulk AFD's on notibility. I decided to wait on the outcome on notablitiy. I will follow the guidelines as best as I can on the broader article, and hopefully calmer heads and editors will prevail. Page protection?

Crisco, do you ever handle page protection requests?

I ask because there's a swarm of IPs at Kurt Hummel, doing unfortunate things to the infobox (and sometimes elsewhere in the article). I put in a request at WP:RFP#Kurt Hummel about 40 minutes ago because of over two dozen edits in a very short time, and well over a dozen have been made since then. I ask because that prick BlueMoonset is so particular and wants another reviewer to look at a tweaked hook. Well, I got two such hooks (review is done, etc.) with minor tweaks, and if someone OKs them you get rid of two DYK noms in a minute: Template:Did you know nominations/Milan Poparic and Template:Did you know nominations/Prisoners of Hope. Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Restorations

Hey, Cris! I've been asked to find new examples of restorations to replace ones a Wikimedia UK page that consists entirely of Durova's work, which, while good, is also by a long-retired user. Could you tell me what your top five favourite restorations you've done are? Also, besides us two, can you think of any other active restorationists? I can think of a half-dozen or so - Papa Lima Whiskey, Staxringold, Trialsanderrors etc - but I don't think any of them have been active in years; if I'm wrong on that point, I would like to know. =) Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:18, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

  • PLW was active under the name User:Papa Lima Whiskey 2 for a while, but s/he's disappeared since then. User:Mmxx does some, but I haven't seen him/her around recently. Jbarta and User:Centpacrr do some restorations at the image lab, though neither are active at FPC (and I doubt Centpacrr would want the recognition).
I'm rather fond of
Perhaps File:Golden_Gate_from_Lands_End,_San_Francisco_c1895.jpg would be a useful example of my work in digital image restoration for what you are wanting to demonstrate. (Comparison of original and restoration below.) I have others. but this is probably the most extreme example of a damaged image that was restored.

  • I am puzzled by the first two images you have referred to above for which you take credit as being "your restorations". In fact these are images that I did very major restorations of for you at your request made in the Graphics Lab in December, 2011 (see here and here both of which you then marked as "Resolved"), which you appear to have then reposted as new files (one within hours) styled as your own restorations (called "Cisco edits") but to which you made virtually no changes to the extensive work I did for you other than some extremely minor "flyspecking". (Perhaps this is what you mean above by saying that you "doubt I would want the recognition" for my work.) While I do not seek or accept Barnstars or other forms of WP "merit badges" for the work that I do in here as that is not why I contribute to the project, neither to I expect those that ask me to do it to then repost my work as their own.   • "Minor flyspecking"? I think you either a) don't quite recall what you did, as your changes were similar (none of the images had major gaps) or b) are still upset over Lindbergh. I remember it built on your restorations, and was going to to note this on my talk page, but then you sucked me into an edit war over Lindbergh. I have added the note above. Now, as for my name: either spell it right or don't post on my talk page. I can understand at non-free media for discussion, but this is my talk page and my user name is everywhere. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:26, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
  • On the contrary, Crisco, I remember exactly what I did to these images as I spent several hours on each one and still have all the files. But even if I didn't have them, all one needs to do is compare the original file of each image with the restoration I did of them at your request and you will find hundreds of complex edits were made. My issue is that you did not acknowledge that until after I raised the issue (see here) but instead (apparently proudly) said that one (Hadji) was "my first restoration to reach FP" and the other (USS Arizons) had "Lots of little details, very cool image". I also compared my restorations with the files you reposted on new pages as your own and found them to be virtually identical to the restorations I made for you and which you had accepted here and here as resolved. The only "differences" are some very minor additional "flyspecking" that is only visible when the images are inspected at full resolution but none of which are apparent at full image webviewing. Such minor "flyspecking" does not constitute original digital image restoration. So in the future if you want to make small changes like this, the proper thing to do is to upload it on the original host page by overwriting (as opposed to creating a new host page) so that the full history of the image from its original upload to last revision is visible to all.
  • Using as an excuse that you failed to acknowledge this in here as being based on a discussion of images on the Charles Lindbergh page is a red herring, especially as that issue did not arise until after your original posting above -- and more than a year after you had originally reposted my restorations in new host pages as your own. This issue and the Lindbergh images have nothing to do with each other, and even if they did that is not grounds for failing to acknowledge where the Hadji and USS Arizona restorations originated. I also did not "sucker you into an edit war" but only restored some images you removed that had been in place from between five to seven years which I felt you had removed improperly. You also had done this without explaining why on the article's talk page until after your deletions had first been reverted by another editor (Bzuk) and you deleted them again. You later claimed that no rationale had been provided for their use which is also not correct. Each image had full rationales on their host pages for each article in which they were used. It's not that they didn't have rationales, it's just that you didn't like what they were. That point is now moot, however, as the images are no longer in the Lindbergh article and I have also addressed the MOS text squeezing issue on that page so that all images are now evenly distributed and do not impinge on the text or each other.
  • As for misspelling your screen name that was completely inadvertent and I apologize for that error. This probably is the result of my having a good friend called "Cisco" and am used to writing that. Also the only use I was previously familiar with for the name "Crisco" is as a popular American brand of cooking lard but never as a nick or screen name so again I apologize for the error I will not make that mistake in the future.   • I am well aware that Crisco is a brand of cooking lard. You were attributed in both images from last year (Arizona in the information template, Ali in the upload history), which you should have noticed. That being said, I never said I needed to note it (again) at the image page; I said "my talk page", and I recollected that you needed attribution after the issue with Lindbergh came up. That being said, you've been attributed since the files were promoted at Crisco 1492/Featured and received FP credit as well. I fail to see how a slip of the finger here makes it a systematic assault against you.
Again with the "flyspecking". The images as you uploaded them would not have passed FP; I was polishing them to reach that bar. Different threshholds, different targets, different levels of detail. The extra couple hours I put in make me just as worthy to receive credit as you. As for uploading separately, the guideline at Commons:Overwriting existing files specifically forbids that: "If digital restoration work is being done on a historical document or artwork, the restoration (no matter how minor) should always be uploaded under a new filename from the original file, providing a link back to the source on which it was based in the new file's "other versions" field." The proposal was for a one-week block, but three editors voted in support of a longer-term block. Given that context, it might make sense to clarify the length of block you're supporting. I see how this dynamic might occur often, that those that have been dealing with the issue for a long time will be less patient than those experiencing it for the first time. User:Drmies, you should really comment on the block proposal as well, as the closing admin of the RFCU on this editor, though I will avoid notifying the original RFCU participants due to the possible appearance of canvassing, especially given the potential appearance of a COI. Copyright/Plagiarism question

Hi Crisco, a quick question - if there is suspected copyright/plagiarism but it's in a draft AFC that has not yet been submitted for review, should it just be left until actually submitted? The 'history' section looks to have been substantially copied from here; the intro, profile and politics sections seem to be from this article with just company details altered. COI (and possibly promotion) may also come into the equation (David Cavill owns Our Dogs - see third line from the bottom of the draft; he also owns Animal Care College, which incidentally it looks like the editor had created an article for previously but was deleted). Now, as noted at the rightfully rejected undeletion request the main issue was notability: there has been no indication that Dirk Reynders (please include the link next time) has had sufficient enough impact for a Wikipedia article. Notability has to be shown through multiple, in-depth, reliable secondary sources, which was not evident during the deletion discussion. That's the short answer. It started as this List of monarchs of Iberia by User:Kober and was later redirected to List of Georgian monarchs. I recreated it in August to clean up that latter article. GeorgianJorjadze redirects to List of ancient Georgian monarchs which he formatted differently against consensus on Talk:List of Georgian monarchs. Dbachmann moved page List of ancient Georgian monarchs to Kings of Caucasian Iberia. I moved Kings of Caucasian Iberia to List of Kings of Caucasian Iberia. GeorgianJorjadze copy and paste his article to List of ancient Georgian monarchs and redirects List of Kings of Caucasian Iberia to it. Dbachmann reverts this. GeorgianJorjadze moved page List of Kings of Caucasian Iberia to List of Iberian monarchs. I moved it back because of confusion with Iberian Peninsula. GeorgianJorjadze copy and paste and redirects page to List of monarchs of Caucasian Iberia. When one is moved from another to another title in the proper way it is all preserved on the same revision history. When things are copied and pasted and redirected to another page in an improper move history is not preserved on existing page only on the redirect. Crisco, when Tito asked the two of us to review one of the Swami Vivekananda articles over the weekend, I begged off, while you did the review requested. About 24 hours ago, I went to smooth out some awkwardness in the Template:Did you know nominations/Sister Christine hook, the one I had passed on, after its promotion to Prep 1. Instead, I discovered that the hook fact was not supported and I couldn't find a way for it to be, so I pulled it from prep. (I ended up substituting the film article you'd reviewed, so there could be a hook on September 11 as requested.)

The issue had to do with whether Sister Christine could be said to be Vivekananda's foster daughter. Some scholars/biographers have referred to the relationship in terms that approach father/daughter, but didn't seem to quite get there. While that aspect has been dropped from the new ALT hook, it has been made more explicit in the lede (though the equivalent sentence in the body is unchanged)—and I'm leery of the wording.

But I've done my bit, and don't want to continue further now that the emergency is past; at the same time, the date that the film was supposed to cover was September 15, which means that the Sister Christine article should be reapproved in the next day or two if it's going to be able to run on the requested day. Can you possibly take over and shepherd this one over the finish line?

Oddly, I had been thinking of asking you to take a look at Template:Did you know nominations/Swami Vivekananda statue (Golpark, Kolkata), another Vivekananda article that I've done enough work on cleanup that I don't feel I should review it. It's currently the second oldest extant DYK nomination, and is waiting for a quick review from an uninvolved person. (It could be shuffled into the September 15 slot if it's done before Sister C.)

Concerning File:Poster - For Heaven's Sake 02.jpg

I was just wondering, where is the proof that that particular poster is free of copyright? It seems a bit strange to me that of two posters for the same film released at the same time by the same company, one should still be copyrighted and the other not. Esn (talk) 18:41, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

  • The same poster is available here at a fair resolution. However, it's not high enough resolution to conclusively show the existence or non-existence of a copyright notice (the lack of which is the reason the other poster is PD). I suspect the reason I didn't respond to it immediately is because I'm not sure the sourcing is adequate to DYK. That being said, that Suharto was in Egypt (and I remember reading sources saying he was; I think it was an OPEC meeting) when the crisis hit is pertinent for his biography.     • Oh yes, he was certainly in Egypt. I guess, for me anyway, I'm not sure whether it is that relevant to a concise biography. Certainly for articles more focussed on those events in 1998 it might be a more relevant. If it did have lasting significance and impact on the events, it should be in there, but with an explanation in the article. On the other hand, i saw it as little more than a curiosity. Monster (company)

Hi Crisco. I've been working on a fairly complex and nuanced topic of whether Monster's cables make a difference in the audio/visual that is perceivable by the user. Apparently it's a big debate among audiophiles, etc. on whether expensive cables make a difference and North8000 seems to be a topic expert. North supports my draft at least as a place for continued incremental improvement: "My suggestion: Put it in as you wrote it, (perfection is the enemy of progress, and IMHO there are no COI issues in the draft) and then tweak it after that."

I can't imagine a topic where my COI would be more potent than the actual efficacy of the product and I'm not really comfortable making the edit myself. Not that a Request Edit protects me from potential speculations of intentional slanting, but it is a good process to verify there was support for the changes.

I was wondering if you would be comfortable performing the Request Edit here? I want to be BrightLine(ish), but sometimes I have to poke around to find someone comfortable with making the edit on my behalf. CorporateM (Talk) 13:20, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

Bam. I found a University study that did a year-long test using two Monster cables and overwhelmingly found the quality of the cable made a difference. Pretty amazing how extensive lab tests by experts can have radically different views eh? I think there's enough lab tests to focus on more reliable sources than some of the media riff-raff, but I took the lacks of response as a likely no-go. Hello. Sorry if I'm in the wrong forum to ask this, but it's best to consult an admin who has experience. Good to know that you're at least based in Indonesia because of my concern.

I've already put two of the articles created by SaidMuqaffa (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log), Bang Habib and Eri Satria, into AfD because I feel that the two articles are dubious, since there are no valid links to prove these two "TV stations" in existence. In fact, the Bang Habib article has the logo of TV3 Sweden (a possible copypasta of the infobox from the TV3 article). I've already notified the users in Wikiproject Indonesia and Wikipedia Asia about the AfD.

I'm also equally concerned about this user's generally behavior of putting possibly unsourced edits into several articles.
