P.S. Mentioning RG's connections with other politicians, such as John Bright, and his purchase of Stevenson's railway track, are the kind of things that convince people he's "notable". I don't know if you've come across it, or whether the library could get you a copy, but Richard Shannon's Gladstone may have some useful stuff on Robertson (or so it seems from the snippets on Google books).
