Hello! I have already read the Talk pages guidelines/information, but I am still unsure as to how to you post a comment in the talk pages (I do not see any "post comment" button on the page). I would greatly appreciate any help you could provide, I am a (very) new member to wikipedia, and I lack much knowledge about how to utilise it! Thank you in advance!

Hello! Reguarding your question, to comment on talk pages, click on the plus mark next to the words "Edit this page" on the top of the screen. When loaded, you will be shown a text box. On the top text box, you can add your subject. When you want to add a line like this:

LINE EXAMPLE

you type ==LINE EXAMPLE==. When you are finished, leave your signature by signing with the 4 tilde keys (ex ~~~~ for me comes out as L337p4wn 06:03, 13 October 2007 (UTC)). Then press the "Save Page" button on the bottom of the larger text box. That's it! Glad I could help! L337p4wn 06:03, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

P.S., If you need any other text help, editing commands, etc. go to the Cheat Sheet page. :) L337p4wn 06:06, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Help

Well, (if I'm getting you question right) just go to "edit this page", find the section where the person left the comment, type your comment under theirs, sig. it, and save page. Forgive me If I'm wrong, but it's 1:37 A.M in U.S. Central Time Zone. xD

{{helpme}} I'm sorry to bother you, but if someone could assist me in editing a userspace (how to format it, where to place userboxes, etc.), would they kindly give me some much needed info? I'm at such a loss for knowledge about codes to create boxes, where to paste userboxes, and such!!! Thanks!

Also, I was recently trying out new skins under "preferences," and I didn't really like the skin I chose (the one I'm using now), but when I attempted to click on "skin" under preferences, it acts as if there's no link, and it won't let me click it to change my skin! I've tried everything to make the link work, from refreshing the page, to restarting my computer, but no matter what, I can't change the skin. Does anyone know what might be wrong?

Hello Mizu onna sango15! There is actually a whole area for userpage design! You can find it at The Transhumanist's tutorial page. As for your skins issue, are you saying that you're unable to change tabs in "my preferences"? You should be able to switch between all tabs, test that and let me know if you are able to switch to other tabs, but just not skins, or if none of the tabs work. Just reply here (no need to add the {{helpme}} tag, I'll see it) and let me know if that worked. ArielGold 21:52, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, so much ArielGold! I'll check out the tutorial page soon.

About the skins, do you know how when you try to click on something that isn't a link, it'll just click, it won't open? That's what's going on with the "Skin" link. Nothing happens. Also, when you hover over a link, a hand icon will usually appear, whereas now it just shows the usual arrow icon. A few of the other links aren't opening either, such as the "Math" tab and some others.

So you're saying that you're unable to click those tabs, nothing at all happens? It sounds like something with your browser. The preferences screen works via script I believe, (I could be wrong though) so be sure your security settings in your browser are allowing it to run scripts. If you keep having trouble with this, please head over to the Village Pump Technical page to speak with someone there. I'm not that familiar with the intricacies of scripting to know what could be the problem, but I'd be willing to bet that someone over there can help you. Just drop a note there and someone will probably answer within a few minutes, that's one of the busier help pages. ArielGold 14:58, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, Ariel! I greatly appreciate it.

{{helpme}} I was recently reading WP:RS, and it was very helpful, but I still don't know which websites are considered reliable, and which aren't. What I mean is, one can properly cite the source of information in an article, yes, but how can one really be sure the information in the souce cited (the content in the website) is reliable?

Answer: It's difficult, but generally common sense prevails. A good technique is using Google to see if your source is linked from many pages, which establishes popularity. If you're having serious doubts about the source you want to use, chances are it isn't appropriate. A good way to learn is by example, so if you're having further problems, let me know the exact circumstances on my talk page and we could evaluate it together. Hey!

What's up? To answer your first question, I truthfully have no idea how to do the boxes thing...(I copied the text from Jimmy Whale's page and edited it a little!) And for the second question, to add a photo find the photo's name.

For instance, I'll use the photo "Example.png". When I want to make a box for it, I'll copy the name, (Example.png), then type [[File:Bad Title Example.png]] This creates .

Glad I could help!, L337p4wn

Thanks so much! Mizu onna sango15 02:51, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Chat

Hi Mizu:

"I am of English, Irish, Puerto rican and African-American decent."

And speak Japanese, and a Buddhist and from Alaska.

And with a ton of user boxes.

I'm very impressed.

By the way, I wandered over here because of a weird edit you put on Spontaneous Human Combustion. When clicked, it goes to Spontaneous Human Combustion. I'm wondering if this has a special purpose that I don't know about, or if it was a mistake, or you are playing a trick on people like me.

Oh yes, I think you meant "descent" not "decent" in the sentence I quoted above.

Best wishes, Wanderer57 05:07, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you! ^^

Mizu onna sango15 05:16, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello again. It seems you put a link in the article that takes you to the article. Like going around in a circle.  ??? Take a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Spontaneous_human_combustion&diff=prev&oldid=170463066

It's not doing any harm but I was curious about it.

Cheers, Wanderer57 06:03, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for notifying me! I think I would've gotten into a bit of trouble if someone else'd seen that! It's fixed. Thanks, again, Wanderer.

Questions and help

{{helpme}} I just finished reviewing the suspected sock puppets page, and I saw that some IP adresses were on the suspected list! How could this be possible? How do they know that it's the same person? Couldn't it just be someone else in the area? Also, does this mean that if more than one person lives at a residence (most specifically, dormatories), only one person living there can have a wikipedia account (since they would have the same IP adress, provided they use the same computer, and could thus be identified as a puppetmaster)?

Sometimes IPs are puppetmasters. Like, for example, this IP who gets repeatedly blocked and resets his modem. That's sockpuppetry and something I like to call "The IP Recycling Program". -Goodshoped 02:23, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I see... Thank you for the assistance!

You're welcome! -Goodshoped 02:47, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

{{helpme}} How can I prevent the constant and tedious edit conflicts that I get when I'm giving out vandalism warnings to IP adresses? I just don't think it would be appropriate of me to use an {{inuse}}or {{underconstruction}} template on a user talk page, especially since it's not mine, but I'm always getting caught in edit conflicts with other CVU members/recent changes patrollers and it's a bit frustrating. Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving. Mizu onna sango15 (talk) 22:57, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

I would suggest using using some ANTI-VANDAL tools, such as Vandal-proof and Twinkle. You could also use User:VoA/monobook.js if you cant use the other ones (TW doesn't work on IE and VP needs regestration), but it is a little out-of-date. I hope this helps, if you have anymore questions, feel free to ask me on my talkpage.--Sunny910910 (talk|Contributions) 02:21, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

{{helpme}} I have two questions:

A) I have an idea for a good (and unusual) article, but I'm slightly worried it will end up being deleted for various reasons:

  • I'm concerned that it may already have been created under a different name (despite searching for it and related titles numerous times)
  • It may not be notable enough (But I don't think it's COI).

I've read many Wikipedia guidelines on writing good articles and I think I'm ready to create my own: I've checked for various problems (COI, POV, violation of what Wikipedia isn't, etc.), But I still have a feeling it may not be worthy enough. What can I do to make sure it belongs in Wikipedia?

B) No matter what I do, I can't seem to get into the IRC Chat. Whenever I follow the link, I get a "cannot be displayed" page. DO you know what might be wrong? --Mizu onna sango15 (talk) 22:31, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Mizu onna sango15. A) You might be interested in asking around one of the Reference desks WP:RD about the article - they're usually good at finding articles on Wikipedia in case your article has already been written. On the other hand you would also want to know if the article meets notability requirements. Generally speaking you can be bold and go right ahead and create the article and if after a few days you fail to show notability or remotely decent references the admins will probably nominate it for deletion (in other cases there are grounds for speedy-deletion). It is difficult to get "pre-approval" for the creation of an article, but, why don't you tell us (or the people at the reference desks) and they might be able to help find some references or talk to you about notability. You can also always just ask an admin, and in some cases an admin might be willing to post on your article's talk page outlining why they think the article should exist (i.e. show "support" for the article) which can help if a deletionist admin decides they want to prematurely delete the article before you've properly formed it or demonstrated notability.

B) Try downloading the mIRC client Rfwoolf (talk) 11:28, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

{{helpme}} Hello, how do I change the way my signature looks when I sign on Talk Pages? For example, if I wanted to make my signature a diferent color, precisely how would I do that? When I read WP:timestamp, it said that I can go to preferences and change it, but that wasn't really specific enough. Also, can I use a non-latin (i.e., Japanese) script in my signature as long as it links to my Userpage? Thanks in advance! Mizu onna sango15 (talk) 01:25, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

There are detailed instructions here, both on where to put in and on how to code it.. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 11:02, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Thank you, but I've already looked at that. What I mean to ask is, what is the wiki markup of such usernames? For example, if User:Paradigma, who is used for the sake of example on the page, uses the Cyrillic alphabet in his signature, what would he type in the box to redirect to his latin name?
Thank you :) Mizu onna sango15 (talk) 00:16, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

didn't vandalize anything

Hi, you told me I was vandalizing. How do you know I didn't think that Cincinnati needed two charts. Just because you don't think so doesn't mean it vandalism. You should be blocked since your breaking a rule of Wikipedia. You taking ownership of a page. That is wrong.

What makes you think I'm taking ownership of a page? I don't even know that page-- I looked it up under recent changes. Look, if I have made a mistake, just let me know. Don't get hostile. Keeping Up Appearances

Hi, thanks for your message, but I’ve only deleted a sentence from the main Keeping Up Appearances page, due it repeating what has already been said. Edito*Magica (talk) 23:24, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm...? According to the "diff" on your talk page, it shows that you deleted a warning to stop editing unconstructively. If I was mistaken, I stand corrected. Mizu onna sango15/????15 23:26, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
There are disputes surrounding my alterations to the Keeping Up Appearances episode page, but I haven’t been “unconstructive”. I have tried to improve the layout to make it easier for users but at every attempt I seem to be attacked and threatened with vandalism. Edito*Magica (talk) 23:43, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I see...but why, then, would someone post a user warning on your page, unless you're editing's been abusive? Mizu onna sango15/????15 23:45, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Well, a certain user thinks that my alterations aren’t following Wiki guidelines, but I’ve read them, and they are. If you look at the Keeping Up Appearances episode list page, you’ll see what the fuss about. I think that having the info in a bullet point form allows users to find the technical details easier than having to read through one large paragraph. The “lead” is still there, just set out differently, what do you think? Edito*Magica (talk) 00:00, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Ah, I now understand. Well, it looks like your changes are harmless (at the very least; they look quite good), so, I apologise. You can just remove my warning from your talk page, now if you like. :) Thanks-- Mizu onna sango15/????15 00:05, 11 February 2008 (UTC).
That’s ok, it just seems difficult to convince the editor I’m having the dispute with, he seems to think the old paragraph layout is better, and will defiantly change it back again. Thanks for your support, and those biscuits look tasty! Edito*Magica (talk) 00:14, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Biscuits? ...The cookies in the picture? :D Oh, are you British? Mizu onna sango15/????15 00:18, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Yep I’m British, just wondering, are you American? Because I know biscuits are cookies there. It’s weird because we only call biscuits cookies when they are chocolate chip. But anyway I am interested in your advice on a problem with editor Collectaonian (not sure how you spell his user name). You see, he’s reverted my edits (you know the bullet points you saw) and reported me to the administrators’ board to get me banned! (There’s a link to the administrators’ board in his message on my page). If he can get me banned just for making improvements, think of other users he can bully? What should I do? Edito*Magica (talk) 11:24, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Wow, that's interesting. :) Yup, I'm American. Weird thing is, though, (and a lot of people in and out of Wikipedia get on my case for this) I've always used Brit. English spelling rather than Standard American, I think I was just brought up that way. I've really come to like it better than the American counterparts, anyway. Sometimes, though, having lived in the US forever, I tend to use American to blend in. ^^
As for Collectonian (I think that's right; I've met him before), could you give me a link to the Admin Board debate? I don't remember where the link to that was. Mizu onna sango15/????15 20:31, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
That’s interesting, because I always used to use a lot of American spellings, but I tend to use mainly British English now. Are you in the UK now? Or can you get Wikipedia in America?

But anyway this “Collectaonian” user is a nightmare, there’s a link to the admin page where he has reported me, it doesn’t seem fair. He also criticised me for getting yours and another user’s opinions on the layout that you saw, calling you and I “inexperienced” which I thought was really arrogant and out of order. This is the link to it: Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. On the contents is my user name which will take you to the right bit. I am determined not to let his bullying tactics win though. Speak soon.Edito*Magica (talk) 22:54, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi again,

I’ve just been on the admin page and its amazing how abusive Collectonian is being, these are his exact words: “His claims of support are from one or two other editors who are also as inexperienced as he is, and he continues to claim this support of two trumps” this is a personally attacking now, do you think I should report him? Not only that, but on the admin page he is making it look like it’s me who is the vandal! Edito*Magica (talk) 23:09, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Yep, I'm still in the US. I've never been to the UK, actually. ^^
Get Wikipedia in America? It was created in America, by Jimbo Wales, I'm pretty sure. Actually, I didn't know you could get Wikipedia in the United Kingdom. Pardon my ignorance!
Now, on the subject of User:Collectonian, "He" is actually a "she", I found out via her userpage. Still, sex is really not a factor, I still find it rude that she called us "inexperienced" (whether or not it may be true; I'm still fairly new, but quite experienced considering the time I've been here), and also possibly Ageist, as I'm actually a minor. However, that hardly matters. There is not age limit to editing Wikipedia, and there's certainly no "experience" limit, either! On the other hand, I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to report her for abuse, as- since she is quite respected here- it would be useless: I'm sure we would lose, since she's hierarchically superior. We'll just have to see how this'll turn out, I suppose. Well, I guess I'll be seeing you at the Administrator's Noticeboard. :( Ciao! -Mizu onna sango15/珊瑚15 23:23, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
I take it everywhere you turn they’ll be stuff on the U.S elections then? They’ve always got it on the news over here. I wish we were getting a new government, Gordon Brown is rubbish!

But back to Collectatonian, yeah you’re probably right, but if she can bully one user (two including you) then she’ll just keep bullying others to get her own way. I might still report her for the abuse, because you’re right, everyone’s entitled to edit, and calling us “inexperienced” is wrong, because we’re not, and even if we were it’s irrelevant. Anyway, have a nice day. Speak to you soon.Edito*Magica (talk) 00:01, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi again!

I’m inviting you into a discussion on the Keeping Up Appearances episode page. You see, we are trying to decide on what table layout on the page looks best, the group of yellow coloured tables, or the other type that Collectonian prefers. If you go through the above link, then to the episode page and then click on the “discussion” tab at the top, then finally click on "table type" on the content list once on the discussion page. Obviously you don’t have to, but your opinion is appreciated. Thanks. Edito*Magica (talk) 22:11, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey Edito! I'll just go ahead and reply to both comments of yours, then...
  • Ah, yes. There's a lot of buzz about the elections already! You wouldn't believe the hype that's all over CNN and the Headline News.
  • Referring to Collectonian...I'm worried about my inclusion in this predicament; have I really done anything ban- or block-worthy? And, yet, it seems she's eager to get you and I in trouble. I have done nothing but approve your edits; it's unfair that she's using her "experience" and power to make us look bad. I may still be a "newbie", but I have much experience and a fair amount of edits for how long I've been here. I agree, it's extremely rude and irrelevent of her to call us inexperienced solely because we do not agree wither her. Meet you at the discussion at Talk:Keeping Up Appearances, then; --Mizu onna sango15/珊瑚15 04:04, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Hi Mizu, great to hear from you again.
Don’t worry because you have done nothing to get yourself banned, and you can't be banned for posting an opinion. Collectonian hasn’t even got the power to do anything anyway. I’m glad you’re going to join the discussion; I’ll glad of your support. Speak soon. Edito*Magica (talk) 22:42, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Mizu, why do you keep claiming I'm trying to get you in trouble? Have we even interacted at all or are you only listening to and taking Edito's side? I have done nothing to you that I can think of. I referred to you as "inexperienced" Edito starting canvassing for people to come agree with him because your edit history does not show that you have a lot of edits with television related articles and because over half of your "edits" are talk page discussions, not actual edits. I have no desire to "include you in this predicament" and don't consider you a part of it. Edito is the one trying to draw you in. As fas as I know, you haven't done anything wrong at all, except for bordering on incivility by joining in Edito's insulting remarks about me. That isn't ban or block worthy, though, unless it becomes a pattern. If you wish to contribute in a meaningful fashion to the discussion, feel free to do so, but I'd like to ask that you first do your own research before simply agreeing that Edito is right and the multiple editors telling him that he is not are wrong. Collectonian (talk) 22:56, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
You're certainly right, and this was definitely a mistake on my part. However, there are a number of things I must adress:
Firstly, to be completely honest; yes. I am "inexperienced", but, is that any reason to drag me into this? Over half my edits being in the User Talk: (not Talk:) namespace owes to the fact that I'm a frequent RC Patroller and CVU member (though I think I'll take your advice and set my Vandalism-fighting aside for now to concentrate on mainspace editing). All I have done and had ever intended to do was support Edito in his efforts, and if it seems I've been doing anything other than that, I greatly apologise. Second, what insulting remarks have we said about you? I think the farthest I've gone is to say it was "rude" to call us "inexperienced", and I think for you to say that of us, however true it may be, is uncivil, and considered a personal attact. On the other hand, it was incredibly biased of me to favour Edito and not listen to your side of the story, so, once again, I apologise for that, as well. I hope in the future we can all be able to work side-by-side in a collaborative, friendly manner, and it was never my intention to make an enemy out of anyone or start a fight. I am sorry for jumping to conclusions, and wish to put this behind me. Sincerely, --Mizu onna sango15/珊瑚15 21:41, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
I guess for us, its a different of opinion. To me, saying someone is inexperienced isn't an insult nor a personal attack, only an observation based on the available information. I certainly didn't intend it to be insulting. When I first started editing, I was the first to note I'm inexperienced and still learning the ropes. :) When I mentioned it to Edito, it may have come across wrong because I felt he was trying to take advantage of your still learning to try to influence your view on the subject. I certainly have no desire to argue or fight...its very taxing and keeps me from editing. I am sorry you were dragged into the whole mess, and I hope things can get settled as well. Collectonian (talk) 21:54, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, Collectonian. :) This was all a big mix-up, I'm real sorry about this. I guess it's just a matter of perspective, like most issues in life. :) Take care now, -Mizu onna sango15/珊瑚15 22:45, 16 February 2008 (UTC).

I put my B-day on the List of Wikimedians by birthday, so I'll probably get a birthday message from the welcoming committee, I wouldn't wonder. Who knows, though. Have a happy spring break! Happy Saint Paddy's day! Mizu onna sango15/珊瑚15 02:17, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Heh Heh, only one day left for my break. Well, it was restful while it lasted!

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to WikiProject Musical Theatre!

Thank you for adding your name to our project membership list! Our goal is to make Wikipedia the foremost compendium of musical theatre to be found on the internet: hope you're up to the challenge! As a project member, you might like to introduce yourself on our talk page and maybe add the project membership userbox to your user page.

If you haven't done so already, please add our main project page to your watchlist and browse our page of useful templates. When you have a moment, please take some time to review our article structure guidelines for musicals, which, after months of collaboration, we developed through consensus as our recommended structure for articles on musicals. If you would like suggestions about where to start, we've gathered a few suggestions in the Project to do list and in our tasklist.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the project talk page or on my talk page. Again, welcome and happy editing!
