Short new articles without references[edit]

Hi Cmach7. I've just edited Luis Venegas de Henestrosa and Ugolino of Orvieto so that they can at least avoid outright speedy deletion. I know it can get frustrating to get all these warnings but at some point you have to understand the concerns of other editors and adjust. As you can see, there are many people willing to help but if you're not listening to friendly advice we'll let you sink. Pichpich (talk) 01:53, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pichpich, This is the mother of Cmach7 and I have just been reading over my son's emails and cam across your edit. I did tell others on other Talks back on Dec 24th, 2011 that I would have a talk with my son who is 13 years old very high functioning autistic and was amazed he even figured out how to get in here and edit things. He is extremely into classical music and composers and knows a lot about them and has an amazing memory for things that interest him, such as composers, dates and several other things. Although, he is not familiar with how to site where he got the information and as I told others, he would not be editing any more until we learn how to do that together. So he has not been out here editing since then, or should not have been.

I work full-time and have not been able to read up on all this stuff to show him how to do it correctly. Usually once he's shown he will do well going forward. He also did not know how to do the Talks and that's why he has not responded back. For that matter, I'm not sure that I'm doing this correctly either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.209.139.161 (talk) 19:33, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. You'll find that Wikipedia editors are a pretty patient and pretty decent bunch of people who are willing to help those who for some reason have trouble with certain aspects of the project. Communication is key but of course, this is where it can get challenging for your son. If either of you needs help or advice on anything, just leave me a message at User talk:Pichpich or add {{helpme}} on this page. Best, Pichpich (talk) 20:59, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.209.139.161 (talk) 23:45, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Jehan Suzay requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. A tag has been placed on Hugh III of Maine requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to List of French monarchs with this edit, did not appear to be constructive, and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Your repeated restoration, without further explanation, of edits that others have found unhelpful is edit warring. In cases where you find your changes worth defending, you should do so by going to the article's Talk page and building consensus for the change you are proposing, before putting it back in the article. Please see WP:BRD, where it describes how, once your appropriately-bold changes are reverted, the appropriate next step is discussion. Agricolae (talk) 13:54, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have initiated a report on your violation of the prohibition against excessive edit warring on the page List of French monarchs. The report can be seen here. Agricolae (talk) 16:11, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

List of English monarchs[edit]

Please read Wikipedia:Edit warring before you edit List of English monarchs again. Richard75 (talk) 09:40, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked from editing for a short time for your disruption caused by edit warring and violation of the three-revert rule. During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Kuru (talk) 02:10, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cmach7, the goal of a block is not so much to be a punishment, but rather to bring home to you that the way you have been editing is in violation of community standards. It is done in the hope that with a little bit of modification in the way you have been editing, you can be a more productive member of the Wikipedia community. In general, I can suggest a few changes that will improve the manner in which your edits are received:

  • You should always provide an edit summary - explain succinctly why you think the change you are making is important. (There is an account setting that will remind you if you forget, and I would recommend turning it on.) Without an edit summary, other editors will not know whether your textual preference is well thought out, a passing whim, or even vandalism, and are unlikely to give you the benefit of the doubt. Likewise, if they do not understand the reason for your edit, they may revert it for the wrong reason.
  • Do not edit war - feel free to be bold in suggesting alternative text, but if other contributors object and revert your edits, the way forward is not to repeatedly make the same changes. Instead, you need to go to the article's Talk page and convince other editors that your preferred text merits consideration, or even inclusion. This should not be 'please quit changing my text', but rather 'here is why I think my version is better'.
  • Accept that Wikipedia is a community project, and that nobody is guaranteed the final word on any page they edit. Sometimes, it just doesn't turn out the way you would like and if you cannot accept this, then Wikipedia may not be the place to spend your time. Different editors have different viewpoints and compromise plays an important role. This also means that sometimes what seems to you to be the most orderly and sensible way of presenting information is not always going to win out, since different people bring different priorities and different sensibilities to the table.

In order to move forward, a productive approach would be to read the pages recommended to you (particularly WP:EDITWAR and WP:BRD) and then make a request that the block be removed, in which you demonstrate that you understand what you have done to merit the block and express your willingness to change the way you have been editing accordingly. A non-productive approach would be to continue making similar edits, either with a new account or simply without signing in, while the block is still in place. This constitutes WP:Block evasion, and is a much more serious infraction than the actions that earned you the block to begin with, with more permanent consequences. While I disagree with many of the changes you have made to articles, I feel that with your enthusiasm and knowledge you could be a productive contributor that the Wikipedia community would be better with than without. With this in mind, I would like to offer you any guidance you would like to request, both with regard to functioning productively within the Wikipedia community, and with respect to making a contribution in the specific areas that interest us both. Agricolae (talk) 16:01, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have undone your edit to the above template because Henry III renounced his claim to the duchy in 1259, hence why the template stops at that date. I'd appreciate it if you could be more careful in future. Nev1 (talk) 16:17, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
