Status and Advice[edit]

Please, immediate stop added one sentence unreferenced articles to Wikipedia about people whom the ordinary reader may not realize are notable.

A Wikipedia article needs to show notability with references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases. You must therefore add such references, and , if not obvious, enough text to explain what notable work the person has done, at the very first edit.

For musicians, an Entry in Grove, or Baker, or any of the standard biographical encyclopedic sources, is sufficient. But you should include whaever is known of their life-- at least an approximate date when they were active -- and some indication of what they wrote, if available. Finding the person in a list of names is not quite enough--something must be said in addition.

As reviewing administrator, I've tried to fix one or two of these to stop the deletions, but I cannot devote the necessary effort to write them all, nor am I an expert in the subject. Please go back immediately, find your references, which should be in any large music library, and add the information and the source. If any of these articles have been deleted, just rewrite them, when you have the material at hand to do so properly..

We very much need and want articles on the traditional humanities to balance all the popular culture, but they have to be encyclopedia articles, not just a single not very informative sentence. the name and century.

Nomination of Jion de Jordan for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Jion de Jordan is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

Warning -- sources needed -- talk to us[edit]

Cmach, you need to start providing sources for your contributions. For weeks now you have been adding odd dates to List of Renaissance composers and List of Medieval composers, and have ignored our multiple attempts to get you to discuss them. Where are you getting these? The verifiability policy is not optional; everything you add to Wikipedia has to be from a reliable source. More concerning are your recent additions, such as Jion de Jordan -- unless you provide the source for this information, it seems to be a hoax. Is it? Where did you get the information on this alleged troubadour? Talk to us! I will have no choice but to block you -- and your two IPs, 101.160.148.192 and 24.209.139.161, unless you start giving sources. I do not want to block you. I want you to start giving sources.
