So, If I were to recreate the page Brock Baker I would need two or more sources? What else would I need? Heymister14 (talk) 22:54, 27 June 2012 (UTC)heymister14

  • Hey there. Thanks for stopping by. It looks like you've received quite a bit of guidance on your talkpage already. Is there something specific that you did not understand? Note that the Brock Baker article has been deleted six times. The reason for deletion was due to a failure to indicate how and/or why Baker is significant and/or important. How or why does he warrant an entry in an encyclopedia? Wikipedia is not the place to promote awareness of individuals and their careers. In order for articles to remain, we require significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. We cannot accept IMDb, personal blogs, press releases, or social networking sites (MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, or YouTube). At this point, I highly recommend that you do not recreate the article. If you were to do so, it would likely be blacklisted (or salted), that is, a block would be placed on the article that would keep it from further creation. I recommend that you create a draft in a subpage of your userspace, i.e., User:Heymister14/Brock Baker. Work on the article there, until you are able to establish notability for the subject. Feel free to contact me if you have questions. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 21:31, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

I have a request. Could you please draw attention to the edits by 27.32.120.189 in the article Uudam. I think it's vandalism. He removes probably a good sources and inserts a different (from Facebook) and on this basis, he changing the date of birth. I fixed after him, but he has canceled it. Best regards.--Seti6908 (talk) 14:36, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Hey there! Thanks for contacting me. I went ahead and made a quick copyedit and cleaned up the article. I removed the Facebook citation and external link. I also left a message on the IP's talkpage explaining my edits and provided links to the applicable policies. I wouldn't define the edits that he made as vandalism, but rather an apparent effort to correct mistakes that he sees in the article, albeit by offering a citation that does not meet the definition for a reliable source. I left links to WP:RS, WP:SOCIALMEDIA, and WP:ELNO. Hopefully he'll have some time to read the policies. If you have any questions or run across any other wonky edits, please feel free to contact me again. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 15:28, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Seattle Great Wheel logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Seattle Great Wheel logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:42, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Quadrail series of books

Hi, thank you for pointing me to the book notability guidelines, I wasn't aware of those. I simply assumed that since two of the books already had articles, adding the others would be useful.

I've now merged all five together into a single article for the complete series, together with some basic character and universe information. I've changed the original 5 articles to redirect to this page. I've seen the same construction in several other book series, and it struck me as an efficient way of presenting the information.

Is this a good solution? Regards, --Itsacon (talk) 12:13, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

  • Hey there! First of all, welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for contacting me. Excellent solution and troubleshooting with the articles. While I would always much rather see a redirect than deletion, the PROD (proposed deletion) that I added to the page often serves as a prompt for editors to add sources or whatever it is that the article needs. The redirect is an easy solution, since it allows for easier creation/expansion of the book articles if or when they become notable. Thanks again. Your work is appreciated. If you need help or have questions, please feel free to contact me anytime. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 00:29, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Cindy, Us UW folks are looking for a few veteran Wikipedians to participate in a usability study of our new editing toolbar, called Re:Flex. Questions about Wikipedia & SuggestBot

Hi, we’ve been running a research experiment with SuggestBot and would like to ask you some questions about Wikipedia and SuggestBot. You can find more information and the questions on this page. It should take less than ten minutes to respond. We would greatly appreciate if you had the time to participate! Regards, Nettrom (talk) 19:21, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi, just stopping by with a one-time reminder that we would really like to hear from you! Cheers, Nettrom (talk) 16:54, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:11, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

WP:RETENTION -- Not my intention to drive away those uncomfortable with teams

Hi Cindy, it was not my intention at all to drive away those who are uncomfortable with a team structure. I think the project has room for people with both preferences for how they want to contribute, please see my response on the project talk page. Zad68 20:29, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

  • Hi Zad! Thanks for contacting me. I'm working on an article right now with little time, but I wanted to respond. Without reviewing your comment, I want to state that I firmly believe that you have no desire to drive people away! I don't doubt your sincerity at all. Honestly, in my professional life, I'm a certified quality management and team skills trainer. That said, I also believe that in all sincerity, while you moved forward to implement your ideas, you negated the involvement of the team. While leadership is to be commended, if you go out on your own without the team, when all is said and done, you're just on your own. I would have recommended consensus and collaboration, prior to making the sweeping changes to the WikiProject. Food for thought. I highly admire self-direction. However, while it works well in editing, it doesn't fare too well in WikiProjects. It comes off a bit rogue and tends to frustrate people around here. All that said, I'm in your corner. I dare say that I see a lot of myself in your actions. ;) Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 20:51, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:The_Bushranger&action=edit&section=9

Chas. H. Hansen Music Corp.

It looks like The Bushranger removed Chas. H. Hansen Music Corp. I had thought that notability had been established. The publishing firm is notable. In its day (1970s), it was one of three of the biggest sheet music publishers of pop music on the planet. Moreover, Chas. H. Hansen was the exclusive sheet music U.S. publisher for the Beatles. Why wouldn't that alone carry the water? I've asked The Bushranger to email me the latest version so that I can critique it and determine whether it's fixable. Since you have followed this article, would you support restoring the article? My sense is that notability was evident, as written. Need of improvement would have been a proper tag, not removal. I may attempt to edit it in a way that might satisfy naysayers. Eurodog (talk) 04:29, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

  • It can be tricky sometimes for editors to understand the concept of notability, as it applies to Wikipedia, aside from the definition understood outside of the encyclopedia. Editing this article will not help the subject attain encyclopedic notability. This is done through providing significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Unfortunately, the claims that you have made are not verifiable. Were you able to view the deletion discussion? If not, please take a look to see how others ascertained the viability of the subject in regards to notability. The recommended course of action here would be to research and study the subject a bit further to cull sources and provide citations to support notability. If you are able to do this, it is recommended that you place a request at deletion review to have the additional material assessed. If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Dear Cindamuse, some time ago you deleted Klein windhoek, namimbia, created by User:Kyknlos, as duplication. The situation is that Klein Windhoek is a suburb of Windhoek. Would you please be so kind to have a look at the deleted article again---and if it contains a suitable reference, and is not indeed just a duplication of Windhoek, undelete it somewhere to my user space or to main space? Your speedy deletion nomination of North Sea Boats

I've had to decline your speedy deletion nomination of North Sea Boats. In this case, G11 isn't applicable because the article isn't written in a promotional tone. A7 isn't applicable because it is very limited in scope, and in this case the article subject is a trade name, which isn't covered by A7. However, you're free to submit this article for deletion using PROD or AfD, because I have strong doubts about its notability. Even so, it doesn't qualify for speedy deletion.--Slon02 (talk) 16:28, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Actually, the article subject is a company, which is covered by the A7 CSD. I'll send it for discussion. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 16:43, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

The Tea Leaf - Issue Five

Stop by for a tasty glass of wiki-iced tea at the Teahouse, today!

Hi! Welcome to the fifth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

  • Guest activity increased in July. Questions are up from an average of 36 per week in June to 43 per week in July, and guest profile creation has also increased. This is likely a result of the automatic invite experiments we started near the end of month, which seeks to lessen the burden on hosts and other volunteer who manually invite editors. During the last week of July, questions doubled in the Teahouse! (But don't let that deter you from inviting editors to the Teahouse, please, there are still lots of new editors who haven't found Teahouse yet.)
  • More Teahouse hosts than ever. We had 12 new hosts sign up to participate at the Teahouse! We now have 35 hosts volunteering at the Teahouse. Feel free to stop by and see them all here.
  • Phase two update: Host sprint. In August, the Teahouse team plans to improve the host experience by developing a simpler new-host creation process, a better way of surfacing active hosts, and a host lounge renovation. Take a look at the plan and weigh in here.
  • New Teahouse guest barnstar is awarded to first recipient: Charlie Inks. Using the Teahouse barnstar designed by Heatherawalls, hosts hajatvrc and Ryan Vesey created the new Teahouse Guest Barnstar. The first recipient is Charlie Inks, for her boldness in asking questions at the Teahouse. Check out the award in action here.
  • Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania! The Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania this past month, where editor retention and interface design was heavily discussed. Sarah and Jonathan presented the Teahouse during the Wikimedia Fellowships panel. Slides can be viewed here. A lunch was also held at Wikimania for Teahouse hosts.

As always, thanks for supporting the Teahouse project! Stop by and visit us today!

Trafficking in persons in Argentina

Thank you for your interest in the Trafficking in persons in Argentina article and for your note on my talk page. I have just started translating this article, and have placed a "translated from" template on the talk page and an "under construction" template on the project page. If you can think of more templates I should use, please let me know.

As I see you are interested in the topic of human trafficking, you may also be interested in the Susana Trimarco and Marita Veron articles. Susana's daughter Marita was kidnapped in Argentina ten years ago and is still missing. Public officials and local police, as well as organized crime figures, were implicated in the kidnapping. There has been legislation in response to Trimarco's efforts, and this is included in the article currently under translation. These three articles are interconnected in the Spanish Wikipedia. The Marita Veron article I translated in one sitting, which was kind of long, so I want to take a little more time with this one, especially since there are a lot of legal terms and I may have to do more checking — and since I am actually supposed to be doing a job search right now. :)

Trimarco has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, but so much of the information about her efforts is only available in Spanish. After I created the Trimarco article, BBCNews decided to do a piece on her. I can't help but wonder if the BBC editors who decided to do the piece looked at the Wikipedia article first, and saw a topic with some substance. Hopefully this translation of the trafficking article will help add a public policy element to what is already a compelling human interest story. It is also possible that the committee that reviews the candidates for the Nobel Prize will see these articles. So, although the articles need more polish and a bit of wikifying, my current priority is to just get the information out there in English, in case there is more publicity surrounding the Nobel prize nomination that will help to get this subject more in the public eye.
