Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. Hi Christina, I have replied on Cntras' talk page I'd like to give my perspective. Christina, in my experience spam, in Wikipedia terms, is often classed as to do more to do with the action of the editor than the links they add. As a newly registered editor you have only added links to the magazine you are associated with and so alarm bells start ringing that perhaps your primary intention is to raise the profile of the magazine. WP:PROMOTION, WP:LINKSPAM and WP:ADV have lots more on this. This misunderstanding often happens and new, well-placed literary editors, who can make a highly valuable contribution to WP, often walk a way in a huff feeling that their contributions have been spurned. It would have been helpful, at least, for Cntras to have given a full edit summary instead of just rolling back. As ever, we have to consider the quality of the links on a case by case basis and look at the links that the page already has. I don't think, personally, that any of the links you added were 'inappropriate' (as above). But looking at, say, Robert Creeley, you will notice that it's already chocked with ext links, including interviews. I understand your exasperation, Christina. In our defence, we are just about to try and draft a clearer set of guidelines about adding links to poetry articles and publishers do often try and load articles with their own books. I would like to draft a guide for publishers specifically. As a new editor, I welcome you to Wikipedia. I hope we can find a way to continue this conversation and find a way through the impasse. - Hello, I really appreciate your commentary regarding the external links/spam conversation. I understand the worry about users caring more about promoting their publication over the substance of the information being linked. I will recommend to my editor that she consider the most useful interviews to contribute (like say the Pablo Neruda one which is really great) and spread our editing efforts outside of what is included in the magazine. Thanks again for your input--it really clarified the situation for me. (I hope I'm posting in the right place...I'm still pretty new at this.) You can sign and date your name by ending messages with four tildas ~~~~ Looking at the set of interviews I see that that the one with Neruda was broadcast on the radio in 1971. Is it not still under the equivalent of copyright to the radio station? On a separate note, I'm sure you would be a great new editor for Wikipedia and you are very welcome to our ranks. It does take a while to get the hang of it but it can be great fun and very rewarding. Edits on subjects that your magazine doesn't cover will take you away from the realms of conflict of interest.
