On Talk:The Daily Telegraph said user appears to have a tiny bit of a civility issue. He appears to call me "not rational" and then "tendentious" for having the temerity to question a blog as a "reliable source" <g>. Diffs will not show it all as he has made over fifty edits in a day on the talk page. [1] represents my position - succinctly stated. Some of his posts include: [2] where his rationale is simply that he knows the claim to be true despite coming from a SPS. And his rationale that material is proper because he knows the Daily Telegraph is "denialist" [3] Reasonably civil to that point. Then it derails: [4] where he totally goes off the track as to how WP articles get written. [5] where he finds my position on reliable source requirements to be "laughable". [6] where he calls me "misguided." [7] where he accuses me of "wikilawyering." Followed by wall of taxt with yellow highlights <g>. [8] as one example wherein he seeks, apparently, to make this an article on Climate change denial (currently at ArbCom).

Bringing us to [9] wherein he says " This isn't in dispute by any rational person, so it's probably time for you to "give it up"." which I regard as being incivil. Decidedly incivil. I responded that such a charge was not "wise" at [10]. So he decided (I suppose in light of all his prior warnings and blocks) to respond "Asking you to stop beating a dead horse is not a personal attack. You may want to have someone explain that to you as well, since you seem unclear on the concept." I daresay that I am unlikely to get him to become civil at this point. And then, as a bit of whimsy, he responds "You have again, ignored those sources, preferring to distract and deny as before." [11] which, since I opined on nothing other than the proper use of SPS blogs in any article, is outre. Might I prevail on you to explain to him how WP:CIVIL works? Thanks! His latest charge is that I have "malicious intent"? Rules, guidelines, and policies exist only to help further the goals of editors and to protect the site and the editors who use it from malicious intent. Rules, guidelines, and policies do not exist to be "respected", and should be discarded when they no longer serve their purpose [12] which appears to be quite far from WP normality. I am not sure why you would come to me for help considering my inactivity. My advice would be for you both to chill, and try to talk it over normally without getting into a heated argument. If that doesn't work walking away sounds like a good idea (find something else to work on, there is heaps of work that needs to be done). Finally if it really is that bad goto WP:AN, so you can get help from an admin who is actually active. I would like to help more, but I lack the motivation to sort out silly squabbles. --Chris 09:44, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

His block log appeared to indicate that you were well aware of his civility problems in the past. Meanwhile he has appeared at the arbcom proposed decision talk page on climate change appearing to semi-stalk me <g>. The purpose in posting here was to make him aware in as low-key a manner as possible that I was aware of his multiple past blocks for incivility etc. Thanks! Again, for the record, Collect arrived on the arbcom page and highlighted edits I made related to the above exchange, calling for sanctions against me[13] while continuing to ignore the consensus on the noticeboard in favor of inclusion. Funny how he forgot to mention that little fact. Clearly, Collect is obsessed with me and cant stop thinking about me. All told, this discussion started out on one talk page, with Collect forum shopping it to a total of four at last count, five if you include his latest at the NOR talk page which focuses on one of my core arguments. Five discussions! This is a part of a larger pattern of baiting and IDIDNTHEARTHAT, silly and childish time wasting games unbecoming of a Wikipedian. I suggest that Collect take the above advice, or continue forum shopping, as I predict he will. It would be even better if Collect would focus on creating and writing articles for the first time, rather than trying to fabricate non-existent civility violations in the hopes of scoring points and contributing to a battleground atmosphere. Turning over a new leaf is possible for everyone. I would like to see Collect help foster the spirit of collaboration and mutual respect. I will hold out hope that Collect will change the errors of his ways sooner rather than later. Viriditas (talk) 03:51, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
I do not care a whit about you. I follow over two thousand pages now, and for you to aver than this amount of overlap (four pages??) is large is outre <g>. And I do not recall ever interacting with you before, and assuredly have never sought to interact with you. Nor have I called for sanctions against you. Mow might you leave me alone? Thanks! Can you please adjust the Chris G Bot 3 edit summaries on Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple‎ (and the like) to include a link to the page to which the request is being archived? Image undeletion request

Hi Chris. Back in July your Orphaned Image Deletion bot deleted File:Pipedream f.jpg, which was entirely correct at the time, but it's now back in use on Pipedream (album). Could you please restore it? Alzarian16 (talk) 14:56, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Image tagged for deletion

You need to add a copyright tag to the image. Since your freind took it, I would recommend using {{PD-self}} or {{Cc-by-3.0}} --Chris 13:27, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Images

Hi,
Can you please undelete the files File:Mo 20c.gif and File:Eurocoin.mc.series1.100.gif? They will be needed for fair use in the article Monegasque euro coins. The descriptions and the fair use rationales for those images will be similar to the current description of File:Mo 5c.gif, mutatis mutandis. (I can fill in the descriptions, once the files are undeleted.) Similar files currently on Commons cannot really do, because they are non-free images and they will likely be deleted from Commons sooner or later. That is why we need the files on Wikipedia. AntiAbuseBot

Hello Chris. I was just wondering what happened to AntiAbuseBot? It seemed like a great bot against abuse. cheers Tommy! 21:56, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

  • Perhaps AntiAbuseBot is only deployed when there is excessive disruption. If Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows comes out anytime soon, not only do I think the bot will be deployed, but the code will probably be shared with other admin-bots. mechamind90 00:35, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
    • The AbuseFilter has dramatically curbed the amount of page move vandalism (in the bad old days we would have 150 moves a night, that doesn't happen any more). It is simply no longer necessary to run the bot. Occasionally when there is a 4chan "raid" on an article or page, I will start up AntiAbuseBot to deal with it, but even then those raids can be solved quite easily by using semi protection. As well as this, the bot was fairly high maintenance, and I simply do not have the time to keep it up to date with all the new regexs that would be required. --Chris 09:02, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

I noticed there was one user who moved pages to "Hgr" instead of the typical vandal titles, so perhaps that could be added? mechamind90 00:30, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

If and when he returns I will look into it. As I have said above, I'm fairly inactive at the moment and the standard measures (Abuse Filter, user-scripts etc), seem to be doing a good job a dealing with it. --Chris 09:04, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Pending changes/Straw poll on interim usage

Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. File:HEBISD logo.png

It looks like the Orphaned image deletion bot deleted "File:HEBISD logo.png" with the message‎ "(Unused non-free media (bot))" on 18 September 2010, but it seems like the image was in use on Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District. Perhaps the code on that page didn't reference the image properly...Are you able to un-delete that file? Hi Chris! Thanks for your comments. I am the head of A&R and General Manager for JaRic Records, the company that owns the copyright for this image. Should we just use a non-copyrighted image of Rick DePiro for the article or can I use this one by stating copyright information and "used by permission" with the image?

Forgive me if these are innappropriate questions. This is my first article so I'm learning - but I love this site and really want to do this properly. As a footnote, the image has been used by other sites by permission ie: RolandCorp US for their Artist endorsement of Ricky Dee etc

Since you own the copyright for the image it would be nice if you could release it into the public domain (add {{PD-self}} to the image) or release it under a free license. Wikipedia generally avoids using non-free images when possible (See Wikipedia:Non-free content), and there are rather strict requirements on the use of non-free content. If there is a non-copyrighted image available for you to use, I think that would be better. You may also find Wikipedia:Uploading images and Wikipedia:Image copyright tags useful. Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2008-09-22/Dispatches also provides a rather good overview on Wikipedia use of non-free content and what is considered non-free content. --Chris 10:14, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

I just received a notification

regarding

File:Rivalta Raggio.jpg

. I tried to explain on the image what the deal was, that the image came from an old book of sorts that I figured was from about 1920. it is very similar to another one that I have from about then.
