Now that we've implemented a changed threshold for the monthly STATS page, let's take a look at the all-time lists, which have grown far too long. The all-time lead hook list now has 160 entries, and the all-time non-lead hook list has 237 entries.

As noted in the discussion above, the original thresholds were selected more than a decade ago when we were running four queues of hook a day. With 24-hour hooks, we are adding multiple hooks every month to these "all-time" lists. This undermines the purpose of the all-time lists (recognizing the truly exceptional all-time best hooks) and bloats the size of the page (now over 224,000 bytes).

In order to remedy these problems, and to account for varying queue lengths, I suggest we may changes along the lines discussed above. My suggestions are as follows

  1. Adjust the "all-time" lists so that they are rank ordered by page hits per hour
  2. Limit the all-time lead hook list to those with at least 4,000 page hits per hour (which would result in a list of roughly the top 50 hooks)
  3. Limit the all-time non-lead hook list to those with at least 2,000 page hits per hour
