Hi Michael, and welcome to wikipedia!

Many thanks for your help, which fixed the image blocking - I thought it must be ZA that was causing the problem, but as a computer dummy I couldn't work out how. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with, jimfbleak 05:34, 20 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I spoke to soon - disabling the ad blocker enabled me to see my image on my page, but I still can't see other images, eg Butterfly, caterpillar, Muscovy Duck any ideas???? Jim

I really think it's sorted now - thanks again -Jim

Results of the United Kingdom general election, 2005 (detail)

Hey, I noticed you created Results of the United Kingdom general election, 2005 (detail), I'm not sure of it's encyclopedic value other than a good source of data for people working on the constituency articles. Would it be ok with you if I moved it into a subpage of the wikiproject Wikipedia:WikiProject UK Parliament constituencies? -- Joolz 28 June 2005 18:10 (UTC)

Yes, I've no problem with that. There were just a few differences in the reported numbers that I couldn't resolve at the time and noted on the talk page. I'll have a look tomorrow to see if there's any better information available now. --Cavrdg 28 June 2005 19:09 (UTC)

Great! I've moved it to Wikipedia:WikiProject UK Parliament constituencies/2005 results. Thanks Joolz 2 July 2005 15:22 (UTC)

Updated 'British Isles in Europe' map

Hi there. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I think your new map of Ireland within the British Isles and Europe is great! I especially like the inclusion of the Scottish islands and will update the Scottish equivalent map accordingly. All the best. K851jg2 12 July 2005 11:34 (UTC)

Axx articles

Shouldn't those codes be listed under the station article like airport codes? These are stubs that are not likely to be expanded and will probably wind up being deleted. Vegaswikian 08:17, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

Possibly... I can see at least two upsides. It's turning up cases where there are already red links with other meanings to the TLA. I'm adding those with links to the best article or, at least, spelling out the abbreviation as in ALN.
It also draws attention to pages like UK railway stations - A where there are links to useful information about the stations that it would be wasteful (and impossible in the case of the live boards) to reproduce in Wikipedia. Those pages are big, listing lots of places so I think the smaller TLA pages would be more likely to show up if someone is searching on the name of a specific station. The IATA and Amtrak codes appear in their appropriate TLA articles, don't they? --Cavrdg 08:38, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

My first reaction was "Oh no. We do not need these!". But on reflection I approve - more or less. I do not think the link to Computer Reservation System adds anything - which CRS's actually use these codes? I would just say: "is National Rail's code for ...".

If the code has no other meaning yet on Wiki and a station article exists and that article contains links to the Train times page and map for example AYS, then I would say make the code a simple redirect (in this case to Aylesbury railway station). However I recognise that if you are mass producing these stubs, that is too much trouble and so what you are doing is OK.

The main thing that needs to be done is to find the registered-user-but-not-logged-on who has slapped {{UK-rail-stub}} (which would be UK-depot-stub anyway) on to things like ALR, and tell them to stop. ALR is not a stub - just a very short article! If it gets expanded, it will be as a TLAdisambig not as a rail article. The rail article, when it gets written will be on Alresford (Essex) railway station. You need to put the non-disambig ones such as ALR into a category (otherwise someone else will catgeorise them wrongly!) but I am not sure which category (possibly TLAdisambig is the best one!). -- RHaworth 18:12:32, 2005-08-14 (UTC)

It would not be much extra effort for you to create links direct to National Rail's pages from these little articles - see what I have done to ALX (feel free to revert it once you have noted my edits). Templates brldb and brldb prim are also available - or you can create your own. (Templates stn_art_lnk and stn_art_lrnk (for outside London) are preferred but they require copying of post codes and enforce format too much.) -- RHaworth 18:37:11, 2005-08-14 (UTC)

I included the Computer Reservation System link because they're known as CRS codes in the industry (see CRS, NLC, TIPLOC and STANOX Codes) but I agree that, for most users, National Rail code is more a more helpful description.
I like the idea of direct links. There is a risk that National Rail will restructure their site in the future and break all the links. Fixing the UK railway stations - X type of articles would not be too bad but doing each TLA article would be a pain. Is it the sort of change that could be automated if need be? --Cavrdg 19:27, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
The possible impact of broken links is greatly reduced because we always use a template to create the link. Hopefully any change could be handled by a change to the template. Note the source of UK railway stations - A with links the way they should be and of UK railway stations - R which I shall be changing when I get a round tuit. -- RHaworth 08:46:36, 2005-08-15 (UTC)
I've redone the ABW one. Does that look good? --Cavrdg 19:11, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

Place location maps

Hi Cavrdg,

You asked me about location maps for places a little while ago and I gave you a rather unsatisfactory answer. There's also this technique for linking to external maps, well worth knowing about if you haven't seen it used already.

Try using these guidelines (near the bottom of the page) to provide access to various maps and images. See London Heathrow Airport for an example (click the co-ordinates in the info box).

Hope this helps. Chris Jefferies 22:08, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

IP Proxy Notice

Can I say thanks for us users who have shared IP proxys and your wonderful paragraph!! ;-)

I wanna say thanks too- being a NTL customer i'm sick of being blamed for other peoples wrong-doings

Thanks. I didn't do a great deal. I just took an existing template and pasted in some NTL specific text some else had used. --Cavrdg 18:49, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

LocationIreland.png

Lat month, you offered a better map of the Republic of Ireland that put County Donegal back "south" of the border. But it doesn't seem to have made it onto any pages yet? --Red King 19:41, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

Finally got a round tuit today! I've put it on the pages that used the one it was based on but feel free to use it anywhere else. --Cavrdg 19:58, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

Wikilinked full dates

I've been here over a year, working intensively, and never heard about this. I don't think the majority of users (who don't edit here) know this either. So they would see "2006 1-25" or whatever, which looks very bad. If the date format could be engineered that everyone saw the same thing, or people saw the date convention for their geographic region according to IP address that would be one thing, but as this isn't the case and I'm seeing "2006 1-25" this doesn't seem to be a good solution, whether I'm able to physically go into my settings and change them or not. I've never encountered a problem thus far and the Mozart article doesn't have "2006 1-25"; his birth date is given normally. Badagnani 08:36, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Photographs

Thanks for those links, I'll be sure to look into it. Funny you should mention the commons, on my userpage there's a link to my commons page. Not much, I've uploaded a few of Belfast, etc, but my main feature is my Stormont page. If you'd call it a feature. --Dom0803 20:03, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm having trouble getting the correct co-ordinates. How do you find yours? --Dom0803 20:42, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

List of rail accidents

There is currently a discussion about whether we should set criteria for inlcusion of accients on the List of rail accidents page, and if so what the criteria should be.

The discussion is located at Talk:List of rail accidents/Criteria for inclusion, where your input would be most welcome. Thryduulf 00:39, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
