Green tickY Blocked. What do you think of Mortyman (talk · contribs)? Rudget (logs) 10:22, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think so; first, he's been around for a long while (not frequently but still); next, he's had elaborate conversation with two Wellwater socks, and they've argued too. I think its highly unlikely actually. I'm curious, is there anyway Wellwater can, uh, find redemption and be allowed to edit? indopug (talk) 10:36, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
After using disposable sockpuppets like he has, I'm sure he'll have to submit a very heartfelt and convincing argument for his unblocking. Rudget (logs) 10:38, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ITN flooding picture

This is unfortunately the only picture we have of this serious natural disaster (if the flooding was in the southern US rather than southern China, we might have more options). If you have another suggestion, or maybe there's a way we could crop the current picture, that would be appreciated. The last picture up was one of Paul Pierce, which I rotated out after 24 hours.--Pharos (talk) 18:02, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Epbr RfA

Thanks for the link. I don't see what is so complicated about "The following discussion is preserved as an archive... Please do not modify it" though. You don't go edit someone's RfA and change your vote because of some personal vendetta, that is quite disruptive. Nothing close to that sort of completely unacceptable email nonsense, but two wrongs... That said, this is exactly why I don't support people at RfA I don't know :). New conspirator

Hello again; call me paranoid but something about this guy--Linkins Parkl (talk · contribs)--screams Wellwater Conspiracy. He's just joined today and he's already submitted an FLC. He's kickstarted the Rock music Wikiproject and has been tagging articles on a spree; especially those that his previous socks have worked on (Soundgarden, a-ha). He's also doing his typical genre-addition edit-warring in the Soundgarden article. I found him by his tagging of "Touch Me I'm Sick", an FA of mine whose talk page has been visited by three socks of his! I'm also pretty certain 88.88.53.242 (talk · contribs) is his sock. I trust your judgement :) indopug (talk) 18:28, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oops just saw you're on a wikibreak. indopug (talk) 18:37, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry, I'm just on for a few minutes, whilst I was reading something. I'll have a response immediately. Rudget (logs) 18:38, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Blocked the IP address for 1 month. Pretty clear on that front. Not sure about the first user though, I mean, although it could be, he has some discernible differences including a uncharacteristic account creation time (this particular one, early in the morning (UTC) and all the others are around 18:00-19:30 (UTC) time frame) etc. However, he does show that he knows proccesses a little too well for my liking. FLC included. Blocked as a sock, but I'd be waiting to supply evidence to the {{unblock}} admin attendee, as I guess that's exactly what'll happen. Rudget (logs) 18:46, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again. Further evidence is that if you see the IP's latest edits (to the LP discography), it seems as though he forgot to login. So just five minutes after the IP's last edits on the article; the user comes in (both biuilding the article upto FL standard). I think its pretty clear. indopug (talk) 19:03, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Uh-huh. I also made a mental note of that :) Rudget (logs) 19:04, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Curiouser and curiouser. Check the bottom of my talk page! I'll AGF for now I think. indopug (talk) 19:16, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But are you sure it was him? And not some monstrous coincidence? indopug (talk) 19:19, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey! :D It just makes zero sense thats all. Can you impose a ban where he can't edit from that IP at all; even under a username? indopug (talk) 19:23, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We'd need to wait for a few more socks... and then a few more RFCU cases, so we are sure that the accounts are being operated from by WwC. Rudget (logs) 19:24, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Watch out for more usernames, he’ll never give up. Take a look at this category. I’ve made a list of all his accounts there. As you can see, Linkins Parkl also exists there. Remember to take a look there each time you find a suspicious name. Good luck in stopping this guy. — H92 (t · c · no) 23:05, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question about rollback

Hi, A while back i requested rollback, and was denied (on the grounds I didn't have enough experience). I was just on RC patrol now and saw you make a comment to someone about rollback also being too new, and needing ideally 500 contribs. But i wanted to know:

  • Of those 500 contribs, how many have to be mainspace?
  • Of those 500 contribs, How many have to be fighting vandalism?

Thanks, --nappymonster (talk) 16:07, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From what I can recall, it another administrator that handled your request. But to answer your question, its different when there is 500 edits of near-all revision of vandalism and 500 edits to the mainspace. The former being the most important to judge a user requesting at RfR. From what I can see in your contributions, at the time you were relatively new (as was the user who was declined today) and most of your contributions in the mainsapce were not reverting vandalism, and therefore that's the most likely reason you were declined. I can't second guess another user's opinion on rollback, so you'd probably be better asking them why or why not. Standards differ slightly from a safe norm if you like, and probably Keeper has something along the lines of what I current 'use'. Rudget (logs) 16:15, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - and yes, it was another administrator, but I saw you were online and posted about a subject i had a question on, so I aksed you (I hope it was ok). But that answers my question: most should be fighting vandalism.--nappymonster (talk) 16:22, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies, I misread your statement. I thought you said I had declined it. Sorry. Regarding 'mostly fighting vandalism', for rollback, a clear record of your activities is certainly a must, yes. Rudget (logs) 16:25, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problems - Thanks for the speedy response. --nappymonster (talk) 16:42, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK review

Hello Rudget. Its been a while. You probably remember me from when you gave me rollback, and then got it revoked. I just wanted to say I'm sorry I let you down when you first offered me rollback. I've improved greatly from what other editors and admins have told me, most admins offered me rollback but I declined most of the offers until I accepted one. Anyway, I came to tell you I've reviewed your DYK nomination of The Towers (Manchester) here. Please reply here and/or Template talk:DYK. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 20:59, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's a minor problem with a couple of references on The Towers (Manchester). 4 and 5 refer to the Owen book, however without a bibliography it's not clear what this book is. Could you add the book please. And good luck with the DYK :-) Nev1 (talk) 22:35, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:HAU, Status, and you!

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible system) - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 23:09, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You've just granted rollback to a two week old account with only 40 mainspace editsAGF and all that, and I'm certainly not going to wheel-war over it, but is that really wise? – iridescent 01:42, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You may of course revert this decision if you wish, I am welcome to all the actions I conduct to be overturned. I recently protected Jerusalem bulldozer attack‎, and came across this user. I got the overall impression that he was established because of his knowledge about page moves etc. He was, unfortunately, on the ‘wrong’ side of the debate, but nevertheless, when he added a request to the rollback requests page I recognised the name immediately. I did a review of his last 100 contributions (not checking when the account was created) and in particular, focused upon the use of the undo tool. These all checked out and the users were notified. I apologise if any misuse this application has been caused to the encyclopedia. You may, as you have noted on your talk page, realise that I rarely approve of the requests if the user has less than 500/600 edits, and is at least 3-4 months old. I disapprove of others doing the same, but because of the prior impression I received my judgment has clearly been impaired. I don’t see any problem with removing the rollback my self, or you can, if there is sufficient evidence ascertained as to whether it was an inappropriate action (i.e. evidence of misuse) or whether you feel that the user should wait a little longer and then re-instate it at a later date. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Greman Knight. 10:29, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
