@Luwanglinux: Gave it a look. My advice would be that you read through the Wikipedia:Content assessment/B-Class criteria, maybe take a look at a couple of articles that have been ranked as B class and try and emulate their structure. Try to create more detailed articles with different sections for early life, military career, legacy. Look for sources at Google Scholar, libraries and local university academic repositories. This helped me a lot when I was starting out.--Catlemur (talk) 15:45, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Franc affair

The article Franc affair you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Franc affair for issues which need to be addressed. You generously reviewed Lancaster's Normandy chevauchée of 1356 for GAN. It is now at FAC - Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Lancaster's Normandy chevauchée of 1356/archive1 - and if you felt like repeating the favour I would be most grateful. Regards. Gog the Mild (talk) 22:14, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

@Gog the Mild: I am quite busy right now IRL but I don't mind helping out. Thing is I don't really know how exactly am I going contribute to a FAC especially when I have worked on the GAN (I would have pointed out if something was off right away instead of waiting for FAC). Would the first step be to study the Manual of Style in detail?--Catlemur (talk) 18:21, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Momentarily donning my FAC Coordinator hat, there are many ways of contributing to an FAC review. Reviewers are positively encouraged to submit partial reviews, but to indicate which parts they reviewed. So one sees for example "Support on prose", or "Support on prose and those parts of the MoS I am familiar with". Or I personally have made comments such as "I reviewed this at GAN and gave it a harder time than GAN really warrants. So apart from the additional minor issues below I believe that it is up to FAC." For this nomination the first nominator, Hog Farm, has specified just which FAC criteria they have reviewed against, but there is no requirement nor expectation that a reviewer does this. Nominators (eg myself wearing my nominator hat) would like reviewers to cover as much as possible, but I urge you to "just" review what you are comfortable with. This is more likely to make you a repeat reviewer, and your comfort zone will grow with time.
MoS: (almost) no one knows all of the MoS, so don't worry about it too much. Flag up thinks which you know, or are reasonably sure, are against the MoS; maybe look up the odd thing you are not sure about; and feel free to ignore anything you can't be bothered to check.
I hope this helps. Gog the Mild (talk) 19:17, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Vardar offensive

I did not delete the Ivanov source or any reference to it. I changed them to SFNs like 96.77% of the other references. I would of changed the last 2 refs but sources with no author, no publication date and no pages make poor SFNs.

Are you talking about the following change?

... machine gun positions and artillery pieces. ...[1][2]

-to-

... machine gun positions and artillery pieces. ...[3]

Closer examination will show I simply combined the 2 page ranges into a single ref. (A good article review should have caught this.)

I certainly could have made a mistake and I would appreciate knowing about any.

PS: Since when does a cosmetic change add a source (or two)?

PPS: 99% means only 1 edit added content. You could check.

User-duck (talk) 17:28, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

@User-duck: I was clearly in the wrong about this, I am sorry.--Catlemur (talk) 18:05, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
@Catlemur: Sorry if I was harsh. I get my feathers ruffled easily and text can be so terse. I am careful about my edits but I could have easily made a mistake.
Honestly, I am tired of the GA argument. An article is assigned a GA status at a point in time. After that edits can easily degrade it. Work needs to be done to maintain the status, link rot, etc. After 20,000+ edits, I cannot tell you how many awful articles I have encountered. I am working on an article now that has the "good article" template. There is nothing on the talk page about when or why it was added. What I know is that a majority of the SFNs do not have a year when the source cite clearly has one. I am adding years (I consider it an article improvement) and fully expect someone to revert. MILHIST and Class on Talk Pages

Kindly give a link to the policy that Milhist overides all other classes on talk pages. Thank you. --Whiteguru (talk) 23:04, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

@Whiteguru: The burden of proof that it doesn't lies 100% on you. Can you prove that an article requires separate A class assessments in all the other WikiProjects it is subject to? You realize that in articles like the British Empire, that would require dozens upon dozens of separate reviews, involving numerous experienced editors working simultaneously? I don't know if you are being a pedant or you are advocating for some kind of Kafkaesque bureaucratic nightmare, either way I will fight tooth and nail against it.--Catlemur (talk) 14:05, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Rollback

Please don't misuse rollback, as you seem to have done on Vladimir Vakhmistrov; it's for intentionally-problematic edits, particularly vandalism. All the best, Miniapolis 01:46, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

@Miniapolis: At no point did I use rollback on Vladimir Vakhmistrov, my edit was completely manual. I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.--Catlemur (talk) 17:28, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
I'm sorry; when I first checked the history I thought I saw "Rollback 1 edit", but when I checked again it wasn't there. You added a {{Copy edit}} tag dated May 2014, though, which I presume was a mistake. Please leave edit summaries. Miniapolis 17:38, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Tsadkan Gebretensae

On 25 July 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tsadkan Gebretensae, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Tsadkan Gebretensae, one of the top commanders of Tigray forces in the conflict against the Ethiopian government, previously served as chief of staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Force? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tsadkan Gebretensae. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Tsadkan Gebretensae), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
