Newgrounds BBS[edit]

You re-created the entry on the NG BBS, not withstanding that it was previously deleted with a strong concensus. Don't break Wikipedia rules again or you might get banned. Mackan 08:56, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The recreated article has now been speedy deleted. Please understand that the Wikipedia community has agreed that the Newsgrounds BBS is not notable enough to warrant an article. Please do not continue to recreate this article. Thanks, Gwernol 10:40, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Newgrounds[edit]

I too, am a fan of Newgrounds [1], and I understand your enthusaism about the site. However, it is important for articles to be concise and focused--articles should describe the subject and major components of the subject as concisely as possible. Moreover, adding terms and important users is considered orginal research, even more so without external documentation. View Adam Fulton or Jeff Weise for an example of how important users should be documented.

It is important, just as it is at Newgrounds, to read the rules and regulations here at Wikipedia.--HowardSF 06:12, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please stop adding information about the NG BBS. It's of no value to the article. 217.209.197.17 15:26, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Newgrounds[edit]

I've been monitering Newgrounds for some time, and there seems to be some controversy regarding the inclusion of the BBS in the article. Now I know that you personally think that information in the BBS belongs in the article and that many editors agree with you, I also know though that many editors believe that there should be no mention of the BBS as is evident by their requests to delete all mention of it in the AFD for the article on the Newgrounds BBS.

Now I'm not saying that either side is right or wrong, but I feel the back and forth editing on the article needs to come to an end. I'd wonder if you and some of the editors who want it left out of the article would be willing to discuss a solution that at least gives everyone a little bit of what they want. I've left a similar message on the talk page of one of them and would appreciate if we could all sort this out before it possibly gets edit-warry. Image copyright problem with Image:Josh_Bend_interview.ogg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Josh_Bend_interview.ogg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Newgrounds BBS Recreation[edit]

You have recently created the article Newgrounds BBS. This was deleted in accordance with Wikipedia's deletion policies. I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Weapons in Halo, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:Weapons in Halo. You may remove the deletion notice, and the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Deleted.JPG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Deleted.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Fakepopup.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fakepopup.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. Replaceable fair use File:Wage Productivity.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Wage Productivity.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. Gore-Bush chart in Media Bias article[edit]

Hi. When I took a look at your recent edit to Media bias in the United States, I noticed that the chart and its caption in the article did not quite match what I saw at http://www.journalism.org/node/1049. So I did 2 quick fixes: (1) make File:Media_Coverage_Bush_and_Gore.svg match the page at journalism.org more closely and (2) give more detail about the chart in the media bias article. I'm hoping that you can and will check and correct my work. In particular, the caption in the article is too long, because I don't have time to make it short.

I'm too busy to do it now, but at some point I could construct a SVG image from the data at journalism.org, instead of using their image. BTW, the original chart has wrong labels on the vertical axis: 0.65 should be 65% and so on.

Total compensation graphs[edit]

I have replaced the total graphs showing total compensation that you removed from a large number of pages (neoliberalism, monetarism, etc.). Since there are a large number of pages with essentially the same reasoning, I decided to discuss the matter here rather than on every article talk page.

Declining real wages with increasing total compensation does tell us something interesting about the US economy: that a greater % of salary is being paid as benefits in kind (mostly healthcare) rather than in cash. Primarily, it is a symptom of rising spending on healthcare faster than the increase in GDP per capita. There's nothing wrong with using the graphs to show this.

But the impression given by your use of the graph was rather the opposite: that everyone has started to earn less in total since the 70s, which is untrue (and patently ridiculous if you simply compare living standards then with now). It is misleading (I won't say deliberately, but I do suspect that from the originator it was, given that the total compensation graph comes from exactly the same source, so they must have seen it).

Please do not reinstate your graphs without discussing the matter here. 78.147.13.3 (talk) 16:13, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"real compensation" is beyond misleading because not every job gets compensation (small businesses etc.) also you seem to have it backwards, the "compensation" is just increasing employer health care spending on employees (healthcare benefits as compensation) which doesn't in any way show that healthcare quality is increasing.
Wages are before spending, their the payment you get, there's no way to intentionally decrease wages unless you ask for a wage reduction. What you seem to be getting confused are wages with income, which can change depending on how someone spends their money.
I'll give you some examples of why compensation is pointless:

Ok, first, please don't edit war. This is against WP policy. I say to discuss first, instead you just replace all the graphs.

Second, I think you may need to take a step back from this. Your user page seems to be entirely about your support for left wing causes - I think this may be clouding your judgement.

I am sorry to be harsh, and I hope I have not offended you, but there is really no argument here. Total compensation is what people get paid. Real wages is just one way out of many different ways of taking the payment. It is like if your employer gave you $10 on Day 1, and on Day 2, gave you $5 and $10 worth of services that you were going to buy anyway. In the second scenario, the total amount of value you receive for your work is $15, which is more than you got on Day 1. But if we plot a graph that only shows wages, it makes it look as though you are receiving less, when the opposite is the case. This is misleading, and the only reason to do this is the push a PoV, by tricking people who will assume that 'real wages' means the total amount paid by employers. 78.145.241.12 (talk) 18:17, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well to be frank, if there was an "edit war" then you seemed to of started it. I pointed to people who use real wage to criticize a lot of policies (irrespective of my opinions) so the edits fit. As far as I know, nobody uses "real compensation" to promote those policies so you seem to be conjecturing and promoting "right-wing causes" more then I am promoting "left-wing causes". I'm honestly not trying to be combative but I don't see the point of even having the charts in most of the places you put them unless somebody actually tried to justify them with real compensation.
With regards to the payment, a lot of jobs don't get the services you described. And the "benefits" (as far as the fed elaborated) are just healthcare spending, which will increase regardless. Also services in general don't make up for money, it's kind of like how workers used to be payed with vouchers.
Anyways I think the consensus should be this:
  • If we want to use our charts, we need to cite people who use Real wage/Total compensation for that article
  • It should be fitting, (ie not have a chart in something like History of Corporations or History of Unions)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Tea Party Demographics.gif[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Tea Party Demographics.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. License tagging for File:Investment Theory Business Orientation Outline.svg[edit]

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 20:51, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Single Payer Public Opinion.JPG[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Single Payer Public Opinion.JPG. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
