Incorporation dates

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission has some pretty good dates here. Dincher (talk) 01:17, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

I agree, many of the dates are pretty sketchy. When it comes to conflicting dates, I always defer to the local website or local history information. I would think that they have the best info. I too have used the PHMC source as a primary reference. It can be frustrating when it comes to establishing just exactly when a place was settled, especially townships. Sometimes I think that we should just go with the incorporation dates and forget the settlement dates for the townships. I think it is safe to go with the first cabin built on what became a borough or city, especially if that particular place remained ihabited since. I agree. Wiki can be very addicting. Employment equity (Canada)

Canadian2006, I added information to the article Employment equity but you undid it. I disagree with your claim that it broke WP:NPOV, I believe that it actually breaks WP:NPOV with the current version. I am only trying to clarify things, according to the guidelines (Canadian Gov.) white Arabs, white Western Asians (including Israelis) and white Latin Americans are not classified as minority. I believe that the following statements are contradictory and need correction or clarification:

For example, people who are Arabs or Latin Americans may consider themselves to be white, yet the federal government treats Arabs and Latin Americans as members of the visible minority category. This is wrong, if the source confirms it, the source is invalid, it is not agreeing with the main source, the Canadian Government.

However, starting in the Canada 2006 Census, respondents were not classified as visible minorities if they identified themselves as having both a white ancestry (for example, "French") in addition to ancestry in a visible minority group.

First, I would like to thank you for your detailed response. I agree with most things you said, the Canadian government really make things very confusing by adopting these unusual standards, especially since Latin Americans and West Asians are not ethnical groups but are rather related to geographical locations. It is quite strange since in Latin America a few countries have a higher percentage of Caucasians (European Caucasians) than Canada, such as Argentina and Uruguay.

The issue to me is that I find the article a little confusing. I believe that if we give a little bit more explanation and details we may clarify things to the average visitor.

According to the website you sent me, it says, the law:

Legislative Definition - In the 1995 Act, "members of visible minorities" means persons, other than Aboriginal peoples, who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in colour.

Then it has a section titled Operational definition, this section points to the definitions of the 2006 census. For instance that people that check Arab and Caucasian, or Latin American and Caucasian are not visible minority, since if it did, it would contradict or break the law. Now, imagine the following situation, a person comes here to find if they should check visible minority on their job application, by reading the article one would be even more confused. The article takes a sociological approach to the subject; I believe that most people are interested in the hard facts and what the law actually says. I believe that the best solution here is to quote the government directly. When I first read the article I was very confused, since Wikipedia is one of the major sources of information today, we would help a lot of people if we explained things a little better.

Distance between communities

Hi, just saw some of your edits on my Watchlist. I encourage you to use kilometres between communities rather than time. Usage of time is discouraged as there are too many variables that affect travel time between communities at it is not the truest measure. As you continue, please use kilometres instead. Johnston Building (Charlotte, North Carolina)

You said you found a site that claimed the Johnston Building was called Midtown Plaza. I need to sign in to the email address I used and check for a response from that site, but the site can't be regarded as reliable if The Charlotte Observer and the Charlotte Business Journal have not only never used the name for the Johnston Building, but at least the Observer has used the name for another building.
