Great job removing the vandals. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of WP:CVU and the IRC monitoring bots there. Tawker 04:32, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfA[edit]

I'm sorry to inform you that your RfA didn't succeed this time, despite having one of the best usernames ever. Your impressive accumulation of 117 support votes was offset not only by the 36 opposes, but by the bulk of the neutral votes, which made the same point as many of the oppose votes: your nomination was a bit early. You (or another) may place your nomination again after another month has passed, and best of luck then. -- Cecropia 03:30, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nice one. :D --Doctor Nicetan 03:25, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently you didn't reach consensus despite finishing with quite a strong (76.5%) support - I've seen some promoted on less (72.4%). NSLE (T+C) 03:29, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Comment, that 72.4% was a clear error by a new bureaucrat who has been informed of the correct policy. -- Cecropia 03:30, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If that was the case I'd have to ask why Luigi30 retained his powers. Commiserations, CSCWEM, I'll be willing to renominate you end of February. NSLE (T+C) 03:32, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Aren't RfAs determined by consensus, not voting tallys? 36 oppose votes is a lot. If the closing b'crat thought there was conensus to promote at 72%, why is that against policy? -Greg Asche (talk) 03:33, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For the very reason that you see here. Numbers are not everything but 75%-80% is the general area of subjectivity. We go outside those bounds only in edtraordinary cirucmstances, including fraud, sockpuppetry, etc. In the case of the 72% promotion, these weren't a factor. The Bcrat was misled by an erroreous entry on the Bureaucrat project page. -- Cecropia 03:38, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
"36 oppose votes is a lot", and 117 votes, correct me if I'm wrong, is the highes number of supports not to have seen a candidate promoted, and would have been the 2nd highest behind 183 if he was. Your point? NSLE (T+C) 03:35, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Third, actually. WP:100BorgHunter ubx (talk) 03:42, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My point is Cercropia thought there was consensus. Why is this RfA being compared to others in the area of support/oppose percentages. It is pointless. -Greg Asche (talk) 03:41, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was a supporter, but I certainly can see the validity in saying there wasn't a clear consensus FOR adminship. We trust the bureacrats to make that call for us, after all, and it looks like the right call to me. Further, as I said in a comment in the RfA itself, I think the people who commented about newness were doing so with the best interests of you, and of the encyclopedia in mind. CSCWEM, I would like to congratulate you on your impressive showing and promise you my support, for whatever it is worth, should you decide to accept a renomination (there appears to be a long line forming already of people who want to renominate you as soon as you are eligible). I expect it will sail through. All the best, and happy editing, whatever course you pursue! ++Lar: t/c 03:51, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I did not support CSCWEM, but I just want to thank you for the way you have handled yourself throughout this trying time. By keeping a level head, you have certainly earned the trust and respect of many editors. Just keep up the good work, and your next nom will be a breeze. See you around, my friend. --LV (Dark Mark) 03:54, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I know you'll make it next time around :-) Keep your head up Clown! --Lightdarkness 03:53, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you continue to stay awake every night fighting vandals for another month or two, you will certainly be promoted next time. Look on the bright side; next time you might be able to break BD2412's record. --TantalumTelluride 04:03, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You are a very good vandal fighter. Next time I want to give you full support. --a.n.o.n.y.m t 04:15, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I wish I had noticed your RfA: I would have added my support to the (almost) never-before-seen number of support votes. You'll make the next one. Nobody deserves it more. – ClockworkSoul 23:43, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA[edit]

I really want to thank everyone who supported me in my first nomination for adminship. Even though it did not succeed, it was a real exciting process to be a part of -- even the folks who were neutral or opposed my promotion were still very supportive about it, by letting me down easy or providing helpful advice down the road. As I wrote in my RFA acceptance letter, its no big deal; while I do believe I will be able to carry out certain tasks more effectively once promoted, I don't want to give the impression there is any sort of rush -- when the community feels that I am ready, I will gratefully accept. Since there was a fairly even split amongst the majority of the oppose voters with regards to the minimum length of time someone should be active before being promoted, I would like to ask, if possible, for everyone to please hold off on submitting a second nomination until April. This will allow me more time to explore other areas of the project, meet new folks, and hopefully demonstrate that I do more than just revert loads of vandalism around here.  ;-) Thanks again for the opportunity and kind words of encouragement. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 04:04, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good job! --Doctor Nicetan 03:40, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Very nice response, CSCWEM! Cheers, Cecropia 04:08, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sad to see you didn't quite make it. It shows alot of character the way you are handling it. Wikipedia missed out on a great opportunity this time, but I'm sure they won't make it again come april. Good luck and keep up the great work! —A 04:14, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're asking to be nominated for adminship on April 1? Your nomination will probably be right below that ofWikipedia is Communism! --TantalumTelluride 04:14, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to be the first person nominated on his first day! --Doctor Nicetan 04:32, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Even though I voted to oppose your RfA, I wish to let you know how much you are appreciated around here, and I know that you know you don't need "tools", or "powers" to be a great wikipedian. I'll be more than glad to support your next nomination, if you keep on your current course. As I've told you before your work deserves praise that I can not find words that are worthy of it. Happy editing and good luck! KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 04:54, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you wait until the 1st of March and keep up the good work, you'll probably have zero opposition...it was simply too early for a lot of folks. I would expect the results if you wait 6 weeks at least to be 100 support to zero oppose...my humble advice is you show your commitment to the project and not allow your self to be renominated in less than 3 months from now...being an admin isn't that big a deal and you'll certainly get my support vote then, just as you did this time...good luck!--MONGO 05:46, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal warning tool[edit]

Hi. I've seen a lot of your anti-vandal efforts. Thanks! I wonder if you'd be interested in trying out a tool I wrote to make it very quick and easy to leave warning messages on users' talk pages. Question regarding god-light[edit]

Any idea when trying to use http://share.zopatista.com/WikiPedia/godmode-light.js I get the error:

Please wait, reverting edits by undefined...

Am I doing something wrong when clicking the roll-back from the diff page? I know you didn't write this but I see you use the tool a lot, so thought you may have experienced this before... —akghetto talk 09:52, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is that why I frequently see edit summaries such as "Reverted edits by 70.189.72.147 to last version by Habap" that seem auto-generated? Is that something that happens in a "rollback" by an admin or is there a user script to do a "one click revert" (such as for vandalism?). I saw the Lupin script but not being an admin, I can't rollback of course. Mark K. Bilbo 17:47, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes and yes, actually. There are several scripted rollback tools, such as Popups and Godmode-light, and then there is the native rollback tool which is available to administrators which I am under the impression is much faster because the process is handled server side rather than automating a 3-click process. Both of the scripted tools I've found are a little quirky (as AKGhetto points out above), but I prefer Godmode over the two so far. There is also a discussion taking place on whether or not to grant non-administrators the native rollback tool, which you may read about over at Wikipedia:Requests for rollback privileges (poll), if you're interested. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 17:59, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that makes sense. I can't get "godmode-light" to work right now, I'll go poke at it some more, see if I can wake it up. <g> Maybe check out Popups also. Thanks! Mark K. Bilbo 18:12, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That is truly one frightening image. That reminds me, do you know if there is a Unicode character for a clown? I know there is a snowman (☃) and I recently came across a skull and crossbones (☠) on WP:ANI, so now I'm wondering if a clown character exists as well. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 07:24, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I did not know that. And no, I don't know of one for a clown. If there was one, you could make it huge and have a picture of a clown on your page that would take up hardly any resources! Vanity + Small File Size = Perfect Combination!! -kotra 23:53, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits from anon user[edit]

Howdy Clown. This user concerns me. Is there anything we can do to curtail the edits coming out of this IP? Avriette 07:15, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, right now I have that IP on my watchlist, sitting at test3. If they vandalize again and trip to test4, I will escalate the matter to WP:AIV and they will most likely be blocked. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 07:19, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What I was getting at is it seems they've been warned a lot. It also seems to me that it's tough to block them as it's a shared IP range. That having been said, while it is a shared ip range, there have been no useful edits coming out of it (that I can tell). Is it possible to ban an IP range from anonymously editing? It might curb the tide of (I hate the word, but...) vandalism coming from that IP if the user were required to create an account. Avriette 07:25, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I can sympathize with you on the problems we face with shared proxies. America Online is probably the worst offender of them all, but during the late night hours, StarHub (Singapore) does its share of damage as well. In this particular case though, if there are no positive contributions coming from a specific IP address then I would suggest mentioning it on WP:ANI and see what the general consensus is. Uncyclopedia[edit]

CSCWEM,

"Well, rather than waste time on vandalizing (because it will be removed anyhow), why not refocus your comedic energies toward Uncyclopedia? Then you could reserve your more serious contributions for Wikipedia. Just a thought."

Haha I can't believe comething like Uncyclopedia actually is real, and I'm surprised I've never heard of it before. Thanks for the suggestion! I registered an account for Wikipedia under the name FedEx Pope

The signifigance of Lonnie is that he was a key figure in the Jesus Movement. It's explained in the first paragraph. I've cleaned the page up a bit too, but there's no easy way to make this point. The most influential pastor in the movement is Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel and Lonnie was an associate pastor. Later, the other main church history event that came out of the Jesus movement was the creation of the Association of Vineyard Churches. Lonnie worked with John Wimber, who was a key figure in that movement. He's not a major historical figure, but he touches on greatness. I have removed the stub. If you have any concerns about that, please add it to the talk page there or on my talk page. --Walter Görlitz 06:53, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What was the reason of revert? Fjl 15:02, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What a shame[edit]

I've been looking at your work, and it is such a shame that such a good contributor like yourself would be shelved at an opportunity for a mop, solely based on certain users who I whole heartedly disagree with when it comes to RfA's. The quality of contribution, not calendar dates. Even just now, you have quite a few AIV postings - which you could have easily taken care of if you had a mop. Concerning a message I just recieved.[edit]

Please refrain from removing content from Wikipedia, as you did to List of fruits. It is considered vandalism. If you want to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 03:11, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

I, in no way, edited that page, nor have ever been to that page of Wikipedia. I have no interest in the types of fruit, actually.

I am just wondering if it is possible that a different user on my network did this and the User Talk was sent to everybody on the network.

Sorry if I put this in the wrong place, but I have never sent a message over Wikipedia.

Please reply to Dagothur(at)msn.com

Thank you for any info, and I apologize for anybody who may have edited the page on my network without my knowledge.

I don't think the anonymous blankings of this page are vandalism - the awards are/were tonight so I think they are merely trimming the 2006 section from nominees to winner. I could be wrong though. (ESkog)(Talk) 04:32, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The email picture is probably a fake as a aegolius funereus is a Tengmalm's Owl which looks nothing like a Snowy Owl as the O RLY? article says it is. Thanks for taking the time to vote in my RfA, which passed with a final vote of 54/2/1 despite my obvious inadequacy for the job. I'll do my level best to use the mop and bucket — or, as I said in my RfA, plunger — responsibly. Of course, in the best tradition of politicans everywhere, I've already broken a campaign promise (I blocked a vandal last night despite having said "I don't anticipate using the blocking tool very often"). Nevertheless, I'll try not to let the unbridled power corrupt me. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 14:56, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for blocking the guy who kept vandalizing the Wade Keller page. I can't believe people will spend time and money to go online, just to be idiots!--Magmagirl 16:49, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've slightly edited your recent comment on Wikipedia talk:Administrator intervention against vandalism per WP:BEANS. While I don't think there's any reason to be paranoid about this, I felt that the sentence I removed was of little use except to possible vandals reading the page. I hope you don't mind. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 08:59, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RFA II: Just when you thought it was safe.[edit]

Hi there: you may recall me from such proceduralist obstructionism as "voting oppose on Can't sleep, clown will eat me's RFA on account of time". But according to my calculations, you've now been here for nearly three months, and it's also been almost a month since the end of the earlier RFA; if you have no objections, I'd like to renomimate you later this week. I think the 100+ plus people voting support last time, and your lack of a personality meltdown since -- not to say, continued good work from all I've seen -- are more than sufficient indication that you're an excellent choice. And since a lot of said work seems to be anti-vandalism, the sooner you get the mop the better. Alai 01:45, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

...I hate you. I wanted to nominate him again. :( —BorgHunter ubx (talk) 02:19, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Change is as good as a rest? :) Personally, I think it tends to look somewhat worse if the same person re-nominates in rapid succession, and on the other hand, looks rather better of an earlier oppose does so. But in this case, I'm sure it's pretty moot, as Cscwem will be a shoe-in either way. Alai 02:32, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
"... I would like to ask, if possible, for everyone to please hold off on submitting a second nomination until April." -CSCWEM Unless things have changed (perhaps he's captured the clown?), I'd say hold off until then. —A 03:45, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Any takers for early March, as a compromise? Alai 21:02, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Alai for the kind offer, but I am going to withold from accepting anything until April of this year based upon the feedback that I received during my first RFA. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 22:31, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I'm pretty certain that's being pretty conservative as regards being-successful-by-a-large-margin, but equally, it's perfectly understandable -- and indeed, commendable -- to minimise possible opposition. Alai 23:00, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is Punk'd "irrelevant"?[edit]

I'm in the middle of a dispute with backburner001 over the Punk'd reference at Lindsay Lohan. This user says it's irrelevant. I laid out the case for its relevance—with a rewrite for clarity—and he deleted it again. His response: "I did my part – I removed content I felt was not significant and I made suggestions for improvement when I was asked for them. If you are interested in working together to fix this problem, do your part and improve the Punk’d reference or give me a legitimate reason for keeping the reference that was in there before." (Essentially, "You think it should stay? Prove it to me and me alone," which sounds awfully close to self-appointed WikiGodhood, but I've been called dramatic already. More on point, "working together" to this editor means he deletes it, but someone else has to "fix" it.) This user's page includes as a goal, "[r]emove irrelevant/trivial content", but a quick look at his edit history is telling: on 30 January, he removed from WP:MOS a "reference to naming conventions for Mormonism"; on 19 February, he deleted "2 paragraphs" from Hiram College "to keep concise". Since then, every deletion of material has been a Punk'd reference, from Lindsay Lohan, Avril Lavigne, Jena Malone, Beyoncé Knowles, Mandy Moore, Chris Klein (actor) and Proof (rapper). After we blasted each other's antagonism (real or imagined), I threatened him with a WP:3RR war and mutual blocking, and backburner001 then agreed to stop removing the reference pending the discussion that results from my Request for Comment. No matter the outcome, your input would be very much appreciated. RadioKirk talk to me 21:24, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion Wanted[edit]

I'm tired and I'm going to bed (it's past midnight here in Japan) but an anon user insists on adding the word "brilliant" to HIStory. Is this considered vandalism? I've been reluctant to mark it as such, instead I've tried to be friendly on his/her talk page. However, this person doesn't seem interested in discussing the POV nature of his/her edits. Can you suggest something? Or maybe just keep at it? Feitclub sleep now. --Do Not Talk About Feitclub (contributions) 15:29, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help. I feel kinda bad that he wasn't willing to compromise...and that I didn't do more to suggest said course of action. Oh well, he won't be missed. --Do Not Talk About Feitclub (contributions) 11:45, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A Barnstar for you![edit]

I, EWS23, hereby award Can't sleep, clown will eat me the RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar for his incredibly high number of vandal reversions and warnings. Keep up the good work! 18:24, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can't wait until April when you're willing to accept another nomination for adminship and we'll have another great administrator on-board. Until then, I don't know how many of these you have, since you don't seem to move/copy them to your user page, but you could certainly use another. I hope everything is going great, and keep up the good work! EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 18:24, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, especially since your record was surpassed today. NoSeptember talk 18:57, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What can I say, I'm not sure if I should be delighted or disappointed that my title as record holder for most votes received in an unsuccessful RFA nomination has been usurped by someone else. Hopefully, things will work out better for the both of us next time around.  :) Can't sleep, clown will eat me 08:18, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

'Guantanamo Bay' entry needs to be edited[edit]

I recently attempted to edit the 'Guantanamo Bay' entry due to excessive bias. The various authors have used the entry as an attempt to focus entirely on the United States' prison camps instead of the Bay itself, or its geography, culture or history. What's the deal with that? Windon60, 4 Mar 2006

Your only edits thus far are to my talk page, so I'm not sure what you're referring to. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 23:17, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

check user confirms 'Isotelus' = 'Ceraurus' = 'Mark Bourrie'[edit]

Hi, Clown. Your request for 'check user' confirms here that Isotelus is the same as Mark Bourrie (now Ceraurus). I'm not sure what this means. I suspect there was some abuse of process in his 2nd proposal to delete the Marsden page. That is, he proposed deletion on March 4, which resulted in a speedy keep. He created a sock puppet to make the same proposal on March 7, a proposal that he then logged in as himself=Ceraurus to support here. Apparently he had colluded with users 70.25.152.39 (who identifies herself as a subject of the article) and 192.197.82.153 (posting from the Canadian Parliament!) so that the first four votes were for deletion. Later in the day here, he deleted his vote as Mark Bourrie/Ceraurus. Bucketsofg 14:45, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA[edit]

Hello Can't sleep. I wanted to thank you for taking the time to consider my RfA, which passed this morning. If there's ever anything I can help you with, just ask; you know where to find me.
