- Following an RfC, consensus was found that if the rationale for a block depends on information that is not available to all administrators, that information should be sent to the Arbitration Committee, a checkuser or an oversighter for action (as applicable, per ArbCom's recent updated guidance) instead of the administrator making the block.
- Following an RfC, consensus has been found that, in the context of politics and science, the reliability of FoxNews.com is unclear and that additional considerations apply to its use.
- Community comment on the revised Universal Code of Conduct enforcement guidelines is requested until 8 October.

- The Articles for creation helper script now automatically recognises administrator accounts which means your name does not need to be listed at WP:AFCP to help out. - Remedy 8.1 of the Muhammad images case will be rescinded 1 November following a motion.

Deleting PRODs early
Hello, Cactus.man,
Is there a good reason that you deleted PRODs On a white bus and Spouse of the Supreme Leader of Iran early? Could you not wait another hour? Often times editors can come in at the last minute and remove a PROD tag. I don't understand the hurry to delete them before the 7 day period expires. It would also help if when you deleted an article you removed all of the red links created by that deletion which is easily done using Twinkle. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 23:17, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

- Thanks for your message re the above. Having now reviewed the facts it appears, to my mortification, that you are correct. The deletions were in fact slightly ahead of the 7 day deadline, albeit by around 40 minutes or so. I have no real excuse for this, other than I'd had a long and quite stressful day. Not really good enough though, and I'll try to take more care in future, so thanks for bringing this to my attention. I think the likelihood of a last minute "rescue" for these articles was quite slim and I do try to check links before deletion and try to deal with those "of consequence" such as Wiki Projects or other articles etc. My apologies if I failed in this instance. I was originally an opposer of the PROD procedure but, given the appalling standard of some material that creeps into mainspace, I now support it. Thanks again for the notification.

Amou Haji
Hi Cactus.man. I recent declined a G4 speedy deletion request for Amou Haji because the article content was not the same as the version previously deleted through AfD. I see that you've deleted it. If I'm not mistaken, the article didn't meet the requirement of WP:G4 that the copy be "sufficiently identical". Have I misunderstood? Cordless Larry (talk) 10:43, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

- Your interpretation of the G4 criteria is obviously correct. Unfortunately, when I was comparing the previous versions I inadvertantly clicked the wrong date revision and they appeared to be substantially identical, hence my speedy deletion. I will restore the deleted article with the Speedy request removed, and leave it for others to consider whether it's worthy of retention or needs a fresh AFD.

Indonesia u20 results deletion
Hi, I understand you felt the article regarding Indonesia under 20 football teams results deletion was because it was similar to the previous deletion. But this time I’ve added the references as stated from the previous deletion reasoning to add references. It’s the same structure as Indonesia u17 football results. So I kindly asked to reinstated the article, and If you still think this violates the rules, I kindly asked you to fill up the required information for the article. Because this article is important to keep records of the results. Since the senior and u17 one already existed, the latter being almost the exact identical to the u20 one. - Thanks for your message re: the Indonesia national under-19 football team results deletion. I understand your desire to see these additional results being added, but the discussion at the deletion AfD was quite clear that the article violated WP:NOTSTATS and under 20 team results do not merit a standalone article on Wikipedia. I agree with that premise, so will respectfully decline to reinstate the article or add additional information. Also, the results are duplicated to a large extent in the Indonesia national under-20 football team Article. - Hi C1K98V, Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but I've been a bit busy IRL. Article assessment is not an area I do a lot of work in, or have much experience of, so you may be better served by seeking out an editor more experienced in this area. I don't have any names I could recommend but it may be worthwhile perusing Category:Wikipedia AfC reviewers to get help from suitable editors experienced in this regard.

- I've had a look at the Draft articles you asked me about and I'll give you my initial observations, for what it's worth. There are numerous sources listed including press releases, many of them only cover the film superficially or not in enough depth to satisfy the notability guidelines of WP:NFILM. Several are also not recognised by the community as suitably reliable sources - see WP:RS/P. You've also had some feedback already from AFC reviewers which you should take heed of, particularly keeping multiple variants of the same article in Draft space. This creates unneccesary work for volunteers and you'd be best advised to move variants to userspace and avoid submitting for AFC review until you've finalised a "definitive version". I understand these were not all created by you, so perhaps co-ordinate your efforts with the other relevant creators. Also, don't forget to "uncomment" the fair use image of the film poster if the article goes "live". Fair use images are only allowed in Article space.

- A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. - The Vector 2022 skin has become the default for desktop users of the English Wikipedia.
Arbitration
- The arbitration case Armenia-Azerbaijan 3 has been opened and the proposed decision is expected 24 February 2023.
- In December, the contentious topics procedure was adopted which replaces the former discretionary sanctions system. The contentious topics procedure is now in effect following an initial implementation period. There is a detailed summary of the changes and administrator instructions for the new procedure. The arbitration clerk team are taking suggestions, concerns, and unresolved questions about this new system at their noticeboard.

This archived version of the deleted page shows that user:Pppery suggested a deletion of that page, but refered to the deletion discussion about the second. - Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
Technical news
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

- Special:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool that allows easier blocking of plain domains (and their subdomains). This is more easily searchable and is faster for the software to use than the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. It does not support regex (for complex cases), URL path-matching, or the MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. (T337431)

Technical news
- The WMF is working on making it possible for administrators to edit MediaWiki configuration directly. This is similar to previous work on Special:EditGrowthConfig. A technical RfC is running until November 08, where you can provide feedback.
- There is a proposed plan for re-enabling the Graph Extension. Feedback on this proposal is requested.
Arbitration
- Eligible editors are invited to self-nominate themselves from 12 November 2023 until 21 November 2023 to stand in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections.
- Xaosflux, RoySmith and Cyberpower678 have been appointed to the Electoral Commission for the 2023 Arbitration Committee Elections. BusterD is the reserve commissioner.
- Following a motion, the contentious topic designation of Prem Rawat has been struck. Actions previously taken using this contentious topic designation are still in force.
- Following several motions, multiple topic areas are no longer designated as a contentious topic. These contentious topic designations were from the Editor conduct in e-cigs articles, Liancourt Rocks, Longevity, Medicine, September 11 conspiracy theories, and Shakespeare authorship question cases.
- Following a motion, remedies 3.1 (All related articles under 1RR whenever the dispute over naming is concerned), 6 (Stalemate resolution) and 30 (Administrative supervision) of the Macedonia 2 case have been rescinded.
- Following a motion, remedy 6 (One-revert rule) of the The Troubles case has been amended.
- An arbitration case named Industrial agriculture has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case close 8 November.
Miscellaneous
- The Articles for Creation backlog drive is happening in November 2023, with 700+ drafts pending reviews for in the last 4 months or so. In addition to the AfC participants, all administrators and New Page Patrollers can conduct reviews using the helper script, Yet Another AFC Helper Script, which can be enabled in the Gadgets settings.
