Hello Ctjf83, I hope you're having a nice Wikibreak (we miss you). =) I was wondering if you could take a look at "Lisa the Vegetarian" when you have some time over? I recently got it to GA status and I'm planning on taking it to FAC, but it needs a copyedit first. You can leave comments on the peer review page if you want to. Thanks, TheLeftorium 13:09, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. ;) TheLeftorium 20:41, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello Ctjf83! The Old Post Office article is part of an effort to get all NRHP properties a Wikipedia stub, as per the Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places mandate. I take lots of photos all over Iowa, some of which include NRHP buildings. As I go through my photos, I put any NRHP images I can find on Wikipedia as a stub, using the NRHP template. For a lot of these, I have no info other than what the Elkman NRHP infobox generator produces. If you want to pitch in, great. User: Nyttend Talk has helped to illuminate some of these buildings, I’ll cc him and see if he wants to weigh in. If you don’t think the policy of stubs for all NRHP properties is a good one, please discuss at the NRHP project page. Thanks! Billwhittaker (talk) 17:12, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

You wrote: "Do you plan on expanding this page? Other wise I think it should be nominated for deletion. User:Ctjf83 Talk 00:05, 21 February 2009 (UTC)"

Billwhittaker asked me for advice on this article; please see my response on his talk page. I've expanded the article itself, by the way. Nyttend (talk) 17:50, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, I don't know if the editor who added the LGBT category to this article originally had an ulterior reason to do so, but it does seem pretty undeniable that it's accurate. He was a gay man. He had sex with other gay males he picked up. He tried to lobotomize some of the victims to keep them around to have more sex with later. You asked "source?" when you removed it, but pretty much any source talking about his victims, how they were picked up, and what he did to them would more than adequately prove that point. DreamGuy (talk) 22:32, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

I was hoping to convince you to revert yourself to show you agreed, but it looks like someone already put the category back. DreamGuy (talk) 22:34, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
If you'd ever read anything written about the case, much less talked to members of Milwaukee's GLBT community (yes, we have one), you'd know this is a "water is wet" issue. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:10, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
I've added superfluous footnotes citing one of the many books on the case, gratuitous as they may be. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:25, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Family Guy

Its a legit source thats been used numerous times in the past. You can even check the history of the family guy episodes page for the past 2 or so years and see how the page has been 100 % correct on all matters. Anyways, it was initially linked from the official family guy blog by the director himself as well as other directors on that blog. We are not using that site to source airdates or anything just episodes titles. Its a more current method then compared to the copyright database which sometimes has titles change since they are submitted so early. Grande13 (talk) 13:59, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

You need to prove who writes the blog. I'm challenging it as a source. CTJF83Talk 17:43, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

I read it on your talk page, nothing was left here besides a note. Grande13 (talk) 18:20, 5 March 2009 (UTC) anyways it was stated by an official director of the blog to check out the site of said director. The information has all completely checked out in the past. Its legit, and you can't argue that. There is a ton of vandalism on the page as it is with people constantly adding fake info and descriptions. So it will only help the page keeping legit information intact and will help prevent the spread of factious statements. It was linked by an admin at an official site so its reliable. I think they have easily proven themselves by providing insight thats correct that noone on the outside could possibly know. Grande13 (talk) 18:20, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Again, the problem is you can't prove who wrote that blog. You saying it was written by a director, doesn't make it true. You aren't following Wikipedia policy relating to Verifiability. CTJF83Talk 18:23, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Its been verified as a reliable source in the past and all the information is reliable. Its not a site giving opinion. The official blog with an official admin is the one that directed to the site in question. It was official as it was under a fox television representative account that a normal didnt have access. There are bigger battles to be had on different guides. This is something not worth arguing as even you can see the information in the past has held up to be correct and thats verifiable. Grande13 (talk) 19:31, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

  • Hey, at least he got US Copyright DB cites for some of those episodes finally. =) DP76764 (Talk) 21:07, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Re: Iowa House

I believe the purpose of the shading is to indicate the majority. This is especially useful when the chamber changes parties. All I'm trying to do is use that as a uniform style for party composition in legislatures. Nevermore | Talk 03:42, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Reply

Yeah, now that the articles are sans-cruft, they aren't really notable by themselves. I'd say merging them into the main List of Characters article might be the best option. $0.02 DP76764 (Talk) 04:49, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

No IRC for me (just the usual suspects). And it's actually time to sleep for me (GMT-5). Happy editing though =) DP76764 (Talk) 05:04, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for removing the merged characters and redundant The Cleveland Show, but I think the spinoff shows section is worth keeping—these are certainly relevant, and more notable than most of the character articles. Would you be okay with my undo-ing this edit? / edg 19:15, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

I hesitated before I did it. I'm not sure, they aren't really FG related, but if you want to restore them, I will leave them. Do you want a 3rd opinion? Like I said, if you restore them either way, I'll leave them. CTJF83Talk 19:17, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
We could bounce it off Template talk:Family Guy, but I worry about setting off a fanboy feeding frenzy. What would you suggest?
I'm all for tightening FG in general—I kinda wish the books were combined into approximately one article, for instance—but the shows are sufficiently notable to be included. / edg 19:23, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
You're right on the fanboys stuff, but I'm questioning what A-Dad and Seth's Cartoon thing have to do with FG, besides having Seth creating both. I realize Cleveland's show is related as a spinoff, but are the other two related beyond Seth? CTJF83Talk 19:28, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps the template I'm thinking of would be called {{MacFarlane's empire}}. I'll give it more thought later. / edg 19:30, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
There's an idea, a MacFarlane template! I do like that idea, we could list his shows on one template. CTJF83Talk 19:32, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
  • I'm not up on the guidelines on templates, but this sounds interesting. How many shows would qualify to be in this thing anyway? DP76764 (Talk) 02:45, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
Umm, as far as I know, FG, American Dad!, The Cleveland Show, and Seth MacFarlane's Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy. CTJF83Talk 07:36, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Sources

The Galaxy Binder is a reputable site known for interviews, and they state that they interviewed him. So its not like they are linking to some unknown video. Anyways i didnt add any ebay poster whatsoever, but i still need a better explanation as to why its not a valid source, cause there is nothing that says interviews can't be a reliable source. I wont add it back until you respondGrande13 (talk) 17:20, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

JoAnne Stubbe (speedy deletion notice)

I was just notified that you intend to delete the wikipage for this person. I wish that you would consider the case for a moment first. She is a Distinguished Professor; has received at least 2 notable national awards from scientific bodies; has been listed as participant or co-author in other wikipages of notable people (e.g. Tillman Gerngross); her work is responsible for the development of drug delivery systems currently being used in treatment of pancreatic cancer. If that isn't notable, then please tell me what is. Thanks in advance.Raymondwinn (talk) 05:07, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

I can't delete the page, I just marked it so an admin looks at it, and then deletes it if they agree with me. Read WP:N on notability guidelines. You need outside sources on her, to show why she needs a page on Wikipedia. Your two sources for Wikipedia articles are not valid references. Do you have any outside source on why she is notable? CTJF83Talk 05:10, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

This man is a NY Times columnist and writes a blog for the paper: http://blow.blogs.nytimes.com/. It surely is not a speedy deletion candidate - I have removed the tag. The article should be added to rather than deleted. Thanks, Harro5 05:15, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

  • He is not an editor, but rather a columnist for the paper. Please read the bio linked from the article. I am a Wikipedia admin and think I have a good idea of what constitutes notable - having articles appear alongside David Brooks (journalist) and Thomas Friedman definitely passes WP:BIO. Anyway, I will put the hold tag on the article. Harro5 05:20, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the note!

I appreciate the kind words! Wittenmyer was on a list of missing biographies, but I have a special connection to Davenport. When I was really little I was on Captain Ernie's Showboat on WOC (my first TV studio visit), and it got me fascinated with film and television. Yay Quad Cities! Jokestress (talk) 18:34, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Hehe, thanks for making me feel old! Captain Ernie (Ernie Mims) was the shizz when I was in kindergarten! He gave the kids on his show a postcard and a Mountain Dew, then played classic ultra-violent cartoons. He deserves a WP article and a statue in Davenport IMHO. ;) Jokestress (talk) 19:04, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism

Hey, nice to see another huggle user, but this edit to my talk page wasn't vandalism, just to let you know. Keep up the huggling! FingersOnRoids♫ 22:15, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Schools

WP:OUTCOMES lists common AfD outcomes and the discussion under education says high schools are normally kept. Additionally, per WP:CSD#A7 schools are specifically excluded from deletion under this criteria so the article would need to be taken to either WP:PROD or WP:AFD anyway. Goodiepal

Hi! I just wanted to know what's wrong with my corrections of artist infobox at Goodiepal page. How can it be considered as vandalism? Is the caption of image " Goodiepal at his grandmother's house, 2008" OK without image itself? Inforrmation about origin and aliases was wrong. And etc. Please, check it and revert back. Pavel Modilaynen (talk) 06:26, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

I did this because Kristian Vester is the real name of Goodiepal, so Goodiepal is only one of his aliases. Look at the Dub Tractor for example. Maybe it's better to make as there.. move this page to "Kristian Vester" and make redirection from Goodiepal? But at least... you can return everything except this, especially if wiki has rule that name of page must be equal to the name shown in infobox. Pavel Modilaynen (talk) 06:45, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Thank you! Don't mention it.. it's your work Pavel Modilaynen (talk) 07:03, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Simpsons project

I've always admired what you guys do from afar, the example of what people should strive to do with articles about fictional topics. I do love The Simpsons, but don't work a lot in fictional areas, I'm mostly a history/architecture guy, which is how I got into doing the improvement on the house article. I suppose I could join though, I'm sure I could be of some assistance somewhere. People get awfully testy in the areas I usually work in. :-) --IvoShandor (talk) 05:01, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Ahoy-hoy. Thanks, I try to follow the rules, and am crazy about sourcing. I went ahead and signed up for the project at your urging. --IvoShandor (talk) 05:11, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Re: The Simpsons GACs

Sorry, but I don't have the time lately. I haven't had an FA or GA in a month or two, I think; most of my recent edits are just wikignoming—cleanup and such. Maybe in a month or two I'll be ready to contribute to the project again. Gary King (talk) 08:14, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Well, these days I'm kind of unstable, because I don't feel well, so all I do is wikignoming. I wouldn't mind collaborating though. Basically I hate doing commentaries, since I have trouble finding out who says what. --Maitch (talk) 15:10, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey, welcome back Ctjf83! :) Yes, I'm still working on episode GAs (I'm currently working on season 5). —TheLeftorium 15:54, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Welcome back. What with college and all, I just really don't have the time our energy to use IRC or really do anything much that regularly, although I do pop on from time to time. As for episodes I just don't have the passion for them anymore, whenever I do have time for anything other than just basic clean up work, I tend to work on biographies now. Gran2 17:33, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I still use IRC. All of the season 5 episodes have been claimed but we could probably start on season 2, if that's OK with you. :) TheLeftorium 10:07, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Get on IRC! :P TheLeftorium 22:01, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I'll chip in on Simpsons articles from time to time, but lately I've been busy cleaning up junk in basketball articles. If we finally get flagged revisions or something in place, I'll have more time to expand and copyedit articles. Zagalejo^^^ 20:38, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Flagged revisions. By "we", I meant Wikipedia as a whole. Something like flagged revisions would take some of the strain from vandal fighters, and would free up more time for actual content building. Zagalejo^^^ 22:03, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey...

You need a duck.

I'm noticing in several forums you are writing variants of "I'm tired of this discussion". I certainly agree certain discussions become tedious, but I don't bother with Wikipedia unless I'm up for it. Perhaps you could use an officially approved break from editing? Right now I'm going on a long duck break, and don't expect to see a computer (let alone WikeFreakingPedia) for a few hours. / edg 16:25, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Iowa

Iowa as a GA? A fine idea. Currently it looks like Twain's camel ("a horse designed by a committee"). What did you (specifically) want me to do to contribute? Bill Whittaker (talk) 20:03, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

South Dakota has been rated Good, perhaps that is a model to follow. The Iowa history section is TERRIBLE! but I have not had the heart to fix it, since that would entail fixing the History of Iowa page, which is its own embarrassment. The intro need punch- why do we define Iowa by its neighbors? Illinois has a better intro. I'd like to see some nice interactive maps, charts, something eye-catching. I produced nine of the 13 images on the Iowa page, so I am out of ideas in that department. How about a photo with a human being in it? Iowa looks depopulated. We really need a lot more citations, whole sections lack them. Needs a through going-over, get rid of the clutter: why is (#60) after Polk County? Do we really need to discuss local options sales tax sunset clauses? Where is the drama and adventure that we all know lurks in the heart of Iowans?! We sound like a state full of pious actuaries and hog farmers. Bill Whittaker (talk) 21:03, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Scott County

Sorry about that; just curious, though: why don't you just cite the Census Bureau data rather than something that cites it? Nyttend (talk) 05:08, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes, they do every municipality and county for every state annually. The counties page is located at http://www.census.gov/popest/counties/tables/CO-EST2008-01-19.xls; would you be willing to replace your citations to the newspaper with a citation to the actual data? Nyttend (talk) 05:11, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Not that I know if. If you're interested in adding the latest estimates to municipality articles, go to http://www.census.gov/popest/cities/SUB-EST2007-states.html; the links will take you to a comprehensive list with counties and cities, including separate data for (1) areas of counties outside cities, and (2) data by county for cities that are split between counties. Nyttend (talk) 05:18, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
As far as 2008: the 2008 subcounty estimates (the ones with the URL of "popest/cities") have not been released; they're generally released, if I remember rightly, in the summer of the following year. However, the county estimates are 2008. The best places for you to go are http://www.census.gov/popest/counties/CO-EST2008-01.html, a directory of the county estimates pages, and http://www.census.gov/popest/cities/SUB-EST2007-states.html, a directory of the subcounty (what I called a "comprehensive list") estimates, which is much more useful unless all you want is by county. Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 13:13, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
By the way, on your Marycrest International University picture: is the building located in the 1500 or 1600 blocks of W. 12th St.? Just wanting to make sure that it's part of the district listed. Nyttend (talk) 13:46, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Easy answer: error. The overall statewide total was only 2 short, meaning that the 179 was an obvious typo for 279; not sure, however, how properties 280 and 281 were missed. Nyttend (talk) 15:36, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

The Simpsons

Well, The Simpsons is a comedy show so I feel that they should be included under the WikiProject. Therefore, the episodes should be tagged as well. ISD (talk) 06:30, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

I admit that is a factor. I suppose one problem to be honest is lazyness. Seeing as how there are over 400 episodes of The Simpsons, it would take ages to tag each one, so I find it easier to tag ones that are nominated for GA. I do the same for episodes of other series, such as South Park, The Office, Family Guy and 30 Rock. Some enteries already are tagged by the comedy WikiProject of course, so that saves some time. ISD (talk) 07:53, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
I tell you what. I'll mention this on the WikiProject Comedy talk page. I'll see what the other members think and whether I should stop. ISD (talk) 09:03, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, cheers for that. ISD (talk) 19:32, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
That's alright. I have difficultly understanding these things. I'm just worried about having to de-tag about over 100 articles. ISD (talk) 06:33, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Well, I personally go with Cirt's view in that we should tag all the articles, primarily because if I have to de-tag them for this WikiProject that will probably mean I'll have to de-tag them for lots of other WikiProjects such as The Office: An American Workplace and South Park. I'm sure that tagging the articles will be easy if we all work together. ISD (talk) 18:38, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
I suppose you right. I probably will de-tag the articles. ISD (talk) 18:51, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Yes I understand. Just one question - supposing an episode appears in the DYK? section. Would it be acceptable to add the DYK? to Portal:Comedy/Did you know. I wouldn't tag the article, I would just add the DYK? to the list. ISD (talk) 19:00, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm fine with that. I'll remove the episodes from the list of GAs. If you want to know about DYKs, see Wikipedia:Did You Know. ISD (talk) 19:05, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
You might as well WP:AWB. By the way, do you want lists of episodes de-tagged as well? ISD (talk) 19:09, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Well, it is connected with the Simpsons episodes, so it is probably best to de-tag them as well. ISD (talk) 19:15, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, I'll start now. ISD (talk) 19:57, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Template move

I am categorizing all drink related user templates in order to make it easier for users to choose user boxes from the drink related ones as well as better organize them under the appropriate topic. Additionally, I placed all of the templates in the template name space to standardize their formats.

I am sorry I failed to properly notify you I was doing this.

--Jeremy (blah blah) 04:23, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Would you mind if I move the others? --Jeremy (blah blah) 04:30, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Here are a couple of suggestions:

  1. Start by checking all of your citations. I just formatted several of them to use the {{cite web}} template but they would need to be full formatted.
  2. Address all of the {{fact}} and related tags.
  3. Address all of the the various notices in the article
  4. Get a peer review to get other opinions
  5. Ask another editor to proof read it, i would suggest User:SandyGeorgia or User:Epbr123. Both helped me with the Burger King legal issues article.
  6. Review Wikipedia:Good article criteria to see what else needs to be done

Hi Ctjf- I dunno, you've more experience in getting articles promoted. I've glanced over the "good article" nomination and hopped in, changing what I could as time allowed. I still want to work on the history section... Bill Whittaker (talk) 12:31, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

[File:Samesex marriage in USA.svg] Colorado will offer unions similar to those in Hawaii starting July. We need to have Colorado with orange stripes and grey-blue stripes now (once it is changed it will be the only state with that pattern). This is a very positive month for LGBT rights. I am hoping the day that CA can return to green and purple comes very soon. NH, NY, DC are poised for color changes very soon Thegreyanomaly (talk) 08:37, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

I grey-blued Colorado for the time being (meaning no orange stripes at the moment). I made a new grey category and greyed New Mexico (it was light blue before), because it is nothing like NY or RI.

Could not figure out how to do striping. I tried striping it, but then Colorado turned black. I figured if I changed it to grey-blue someone would have realized it needed to be striped. Thegreyanomaly (talk) 07:18, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

This really is a good month. Washington updated their DRs to full marriage rights (though they are still domestic partnerships). It is only a small step forward, but any progress is good Thegreyanomaly (talk) 17:42, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Frank Gotch

Ctjf83, as the person who originated adding names to the Notable Persons section for Iowa, I am curious as to the criteria you are using as to who is notable and who is not. Frank Gotch was a world-famous wrestler and international champion in a sport that is significant to Iowa. In the first half of the 20th century, wrestling was as popular as boxing is today. If you are the decider, explain to me why B celebrity actors like Lara Flynn Boyle and Ashton Kutcher remain on the list and someone who was the greatest in his sport is not. Have you read of Gotch's legacy? If you did, you would know how great his popularity was and how great his contributions were to the sport. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.108.28.66 (talk) 06:20, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

You had participated at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2008_November_18#Category:LGBT-related_television_episodes which ended five months ago with a strong consensus of keep. The subject is up for discussion again at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2009 April 18#Category:LGBT-related television episodes, where you may want to review the matter at hand and express your opinion on the subject. What's Up

Hey :) I just wanted to ask, is everything okay? It's been awhile since we last talked. I'm having problems with the haters on here. I think their follow me around. Well, keep in-touch, talk to you soon.--Michael (Talk) 08:35, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Yea, Sometimes its hard to ignore the hatters. Endways... Did you know that we had a litter of Puppy's. There about 5 weeks old now and they look so cute. There are 5 Labrador Retrievers. So, I been a little busy talking care of them.--Michael (Talk) 20:25, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Iowa

Hello CT, I think I've cleaned up Iowa to the best of my limited abilites; learned a lot about the economic sectors of Iowa, and I also learned that our civil rights history is not as great as others have been trumpeting. Now it's your turn, would you like to take the lead on pushing it through the Good Article process? Thanks, Bill Whittaker (talk) 13:38, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I'm not sure what we need to add, I'll do a copy edit sometime this weekend. Thanks for your help! CTJF83Talk 20:24, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Sounds fun, Please keep in-touch. Talk to you later.--Michael (Talk) 08:07, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Sounds good. Chop it smaller. Bill Whittaker (talk) 14:55, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Re:Template:The Simpsons

We could, but I don't know if it is completely necessary since none of the episodes are in the template. But if you want to do it, then that's fine. -- Scorpion0422 16:31, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

You should be able to do it with AWB (there's an option that lets you add text at the bottom of a page), but it will still take some effort. Plus, you'll clog up my watchlist. -- Scorpion0422 19:00, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, if you want to do it, you should do it. I meant it as a joke. -- Scorpion0422 19:14, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the heads up on that. I think I just put a good deal of "martial arts-cruft" up for deletion; there were a lot of one-line articles or articles on obscenely specific moves.Tyrenon (talk) 05:27, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Semi-Retired in Iowa

Hi CT- Just got fed up with WP, especially fighting the stupid copyright challenges that seemed to take most of my time on WP. I limit myself to editing a few select topics, mostly hist. and NRHP stuff. Also, I have a book coming out soon, so that is taking my time: [9]. I've done as much with Iowa as I can, (I've re-written most of the sections) so it's up to you- good luck! Bill Whittaker (talk) 13:22, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Copyright concerns at File:Bert and Ernie Married.jpg

Sorry to do this, but I've raised your picture File:Bert and Ernie Married.jpg for a possible copyright violation as a deriviative work, or as misuse of copyrighted material. The discussion is at Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2009_May_26#File:Bert_and_Ernie_Married.jpg. I'm not saying it is or it isn't, but I thought I should raise it. Peter Ballard (talk) 23:54, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

CT- This is the type bullshit I am talking about. Spurious copyright challenges are just a form of vandalism- highly effective and disruptive vandalism that goes unsanctioned. Bill Whittaker (talk) 20:08, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Fight back with the First Amendment (I put some comments on already), also cite what you can from Wikipedia:Non-free content, and put up a rationale template on the image. The burden should be on them to prove copyright violation, but that's not how it works. Bill Whittaker (talk) 20:23, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I've presented the best argument I can come up with, see the debate page. I can't believe that I'm fighting for a photo of a damn puppet wedding! It's the principle of the thing. Keep fighting, Bill Whittaker (talk) 20:53, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
I stuck a fair use rationale on the photo, but I don't know if I did it properly (instructions are confusing). If you want to save the photo it would help for you to get supporting comments from others on the debate page. I don't know much about the gay/lesbian community, but they seem to be active in WP, perhaps you could ask for support there? Bill Whittaker (talk) 14:30, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar!

Ambrose Hall

It's best to keep it in preparation for a separate article — as an NRHP listing, it's notable by itself, and I expect that anyone with access to university resources could expand it past a stub. Nyttend (talk) 18:00, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

If you run over there and get information, could you get a picture as well? Nyttend (talk) 18:04, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
I see; thanks. I've not been working with the Iowa listings in some while, so I didn't remember that. Nyttend (talk) 18:13, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
I do sometimes, but not very often. I may do so more in the future; right now I'm engaged in putting the Tennessee list into tables, like the Iowa list already has. A few states have an article for each listing, but most were created at a time when the NRHP project wanted to have bot-generated stubs for every listing; the only one with human-created articles for every site, as far as I know, is Maryland. Nyttend (talk) 18:23, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Talk to Doncram, Elkman, or Sanfranman59; I wasn't around when this sort of thing was being done, and they've been in the project longer than I. Let me advise you that, if I understand rightly, the mass creation of stubs like this has met with somewhat negative reactions from WP:NRHP. I myself don't think it's the best idea, because they're virtually rearrangements of NRHP data. Altogether different is something such as Oak Lawn (Ridgely, Maryland), a nice stub well written. Nyttend (talk) 18:47, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi, saw ur note at Nyttend's page. About bots creating NRHP stubs, there was a bot which did many in Ohio a while ago, but it's work is not well-regarded because it didn't do a great job with the stubs it created. Also, users in Florida, Massachusetts, and Maryland have gone on programs to create stubs for just about every NRHP listing, using the NRHP infobox tool that User:Elkman provides, and it was a little controversial for the MA program, i think in part because it was done with some deficiencies relative to what the Elkman tool would allow for. The Maryland ones were all done really well, with added text and links based on a Maryland state source, and there was no controversy at all. The earlier OH and MA programs could be argued to have made it harder or less attractive to local wikipedians to work on NRHPs. But for Wisconsin, the List of RHPs in WI is already pretty well developed, and there have been several wikipedians doing WI NRHP articles and pics, so a bunch of new stubs could probably be absorbed okay. And i personally think it would be fine to create stubs for all WI NRHPs now, if there is interest by any locals such as yourself, either by a new bot or by a manual program. Perhaps you could open a discussion at the Wisconsin wikiproject and cross-post notice at wt:NRHP, or otherwise? I expect there'd be interest in and out of state to helping in a manual program. Hope this helps. doncram (talk) 19:05, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
To add to this, I should note — you might want to talk with Pubdog, who created a large number of the new Maryland articles. Nyttend (talk) 19:12, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
I can't add much to what has been said already. The text for the MD articles was "cribbed" from the Maryland Historical Trust site. I had a bit of a bumpy start at first, with copyright concerns mostly, but once I had a reasonable template, I could copy and revise as needed for each site. I learned to focus on just a few facts; what it is (home, church, type of church) and location, date constructed, major renovations / moves, notable residents, and of course appropriate categories. As Nyttend and Doncram have noted, the Elkman tool is invaluable for this to get a standard to begin with. I've also done the articles and pics for Lynchburg, Virginia and Charleston, West Virginia. I am most satisfied with those too. Good luck and have fun!! Taking the pics is, I think, the funnest part of this project. You get to see some countryside and have a "mission" too!--Pubdog (talk) 21:20, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

[unindent] Go to http://www2.elkman.net/nrhp/infobox.php and type in the name of the property. Be aware that some property names are turned around (for example, the John Willard Brister Library in Memphis is given as "Brister, John Willard, Library"), so if you don't get the result you want, just type in the surname. If this still doesn't come out well, you can go to http://www.nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com (an unofficial site; please don't rely on it very heavily like I did when I was new to working on NRHPs), which should yield the reference number: just put that into the generator and it should give you the infobox. Properties listed in the last few months won't be in Elkman (the Register only updates its main database annually, so Elkman can't update it any more frequently than that); you'll have to search online for data. Nyttend (talk) 12:20, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Please remember (forgive me if you're familiar with this already!) that WP:NRHP doesn't want all articles to be at their Register-given titles: of course they should be without any other sources, but sometimes the Register uses unusual titles that should be just a side note. For an example, check First Concrete Street in U.S. in my county seat: the NRHP listing name appears in the infobox, but the article has the street's actual name. Nyttend (talk) 12:28, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
You can find the Elkman tools at Elkman's tools. I'd like to respond to Nyttend's previous comment. I have tried to revise names and have been told to revert them; that the NRHP name is sacrosanct and should NEVER be changed.--Pubdog (talk) 10:09, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

McKinley Elementary School

Just wanted to let you know: in cases like that of the McKinley Elementary School, it's best to disambiguate the link — in this case, changing McKinley Elementary School to McKinley Elementary School (Davenport, Iowa) — rather than renaming it. Thanks for pointing this out: I'd not noticed that it linked to a disambiguation page. Nyttend (talk) 23:49, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello, CTF83!. You have new messages at Deor's talk page.
Message added 19:31, 6 June 2009 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

I'm a bit busy right now so I won't be able to do the production section until later this week. You can start with the reception section if you want to, I have some links to reviews here. TheLeftorium 19:33, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Done I added a couple of cultural references I found too. I'm taking a break for the night, but can try and find more CRs tomorrow. CTJF83Talk 03:13, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
lol, you don't have to feel like a slacker. I only did a copyedit and added some more stuff to the reception section. I think it's done so I'll co-nom it in a sec. Now get started on the other season 3 articles!!! ;) TheLeftorium 18:50, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

I withdrew it because there is some original research that needs to be removed. I'll get started on that now. :) TheLeftorium 19:30, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Ft Mad Mon

You can crop, but a dirty secret is that the original 1808 fort lies under the parking lot on the left side of the photo. There is controversy about the site location, see this: [10]. Cheers, Bill Whittaker (talk) 12:45, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Chicago

Cool! You could probably make a day going northwest on Milwaukee Avenue between Damen and Cicero. Check out the artist/yuppie shops in Wicker Park, have ice cream at Margie's, explore the Polish neighborhoods, do some people watching at Fantasy Costumes, then pick up an obscure magazine at City Newstand. Zagalejo^^^ 06:21, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Dude, Milwaukee Avenue is seriously awesome. There are so many fun and quirky things to see. Yeah, Chicago has all those museums and skyscrapers and whatnot, but why pass up the chance to go to an ice cream parlor that's been visited by Al Capone and the Beatles? :)
Of course, if you'd like to learn more about some of the "traditional" tourist stops, just let me know. Zagalejo^^^ 18:18, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
I won't be online much longer, but maybe later. Zagalejo^^^ 18:25, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
For a little bit. Let me check a few more articles first, then I'll be there. Zagalejo^^^ 18:50, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Hey, feel free to e-mail me if you want. Zagalejo^^^ 21:23, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
You should be able to find some parking in the area bounded by Harlem, Higgins, Nagle, and Gunnison. Just pay attention the the street signs to make sure there are no restrictions. Zagalejo^^^ 18:15, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Well, I actually have to get going in a few minutes, so... you can send me an e-mail, and I'll try to respond as soon as I can. Zagalejo^^^ 18:31, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Iowa

Sorry, don't think I can help: I primarily carry out larger quantities of smaller edits, and/or work with photos. I've only once worked on a GA, the Southworth House — it has my photo on it, and it's one of the smallest GAs I've ever seen. With something like Iowa, where there's so much more data than on a mansion in Cleveland, I wouldn't know how to go. Nyttend (talk) 04:12, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
