Thanks for editing at Sassovivo Abbey. As ain't English motherlanguage, if you've time you could give a check to my similar San Liberatore a Maiella, San Clemente a Casauria and Santa Maria Arabona. Thanks and good wikiwork. --Attilios 11:16, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Segundo de Chomón[edit]

Segundo de Chomón (see the Spanish wikipedia) was one of the most important pioneers in European film History. I think he deserves to have his own English page. There'are FREE licence films to watch on the internet by Chomón. If you're so kind of propossing that article to be translated in the translations request page, or silent film buffs, or wherever, it would be great. Rohmerin 14:06, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot. I've put more Spanish films in the list. Now, it begins in 1897, so, there is to change the template years 1920's, now 1897-1929 will be better. Do you understand me? Because my head doesn't work today well in any language :-) Rohmerin 14:08, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

May be you know all the wikipedians who love silent films, Please, if that is the case, call them to see the Chomón's films. I've created El Hotel eléctrico with its youtube link. It's marvellous. I'm a BAD translator from Spanish to English. There's no hurry if you can not translate that. Rohmerin 14:23, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IMDB and Spanish wikipedia say it's from 1908. I had got one book abot Chomón, but I gave as gift, so I don't know. Rohmerin 14:37, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not ALL the OLD films are a dissater. I meant, MOST of the films under Franco (1939-1975), about 98% of all them are stupid comedies, bad flamenco dancing, terrible bullfighting macho portraits, sillier comedies with breats in the 70's, propaganda films in the 40's, religion films all the time... a dissater. BUT Edgar Neville, that was a fascist, and that's the cause he's not known nowadays, made WONDERFUL films. All his films I put in the list in the 40's, 50's and 60's are BEAUTIFUL. He's for me the greatest director with Luis García Berlanga. But they were exceptions. There's an old film named El clavo that is marvellous. Oh much I loved it.

One man from Colombia is writting about Vicente Aranda. Great. I expect someone else do the same with other directors. Rohmerin 15:35, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I didn't seen those Argentinian films. But they are on dvd, so may be one month of these.... I'm pretty busy watchuing classics and Italian films- And I have to see more Spanish films from the 40's and 50's that I've recorded. I've done another biography. I thank you putting the pictures, but please, keep the Italians. put the pics on the italians. I talk about it on its page Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Films/Italian cinema task force Yes, I know, I have to learn how to put pics...but another day :-)Rohmerin 17:00, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Guay. ¡Al fin hay un sub portal de cine español! Guay (=cool). I know modern Argentinian cinema. It's popular here in Spain. I have to go out. You're worong with El 13-13 (what a strabge movie you've chosen! I haven't heard abbout it untill today), it's a 1943 film. Not 1944 if we use imdb...but imdb have got mistakes, you know it's not dios. Ciao Rohmerin 17:08, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bangladesh Cricketers[edit]

Thank you for asking 'Blythed' to 'work on one cricketer at a time'. He and I are actually working together on these articles, with him doing the statistics while I do the prose a few hours or maybe a day later. He should be thanked for his hard work, rather than having his barnstar defaced by your unwelcome and frankly ignorant comment. If you have any other issues with his work please address them to me. Hello![edit]

Hi, could you help me please to insert the National Film Awards to the Template: infobox actor? It is the most important and pretigious award given in India. Filmfare Awards already exist there and we all use that, but I think National Film Awards have to be there too, even more. I've recently added that, but when I tried to display this on an actor's infobox, it didn't work. Please help if you can. Thank you, --ShahidTalk2me 08:40, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks you so much! And thanks for the guidance. I just thought to ignore this user who keeps re-adding a copyrighted synopsis. If the harassment exends, I won't hesitate to follow your instructions. I think you would be a great administrator if you tried, but yes, it takes a lot of time and energy. Just keep your really great work here. Thank you:) Best regards, --ShahidTalk2me 17:19, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

British film lists[edit]

Hi again. In answer to your question you will want to take a look at them when I get closer to finishing. The 1800s to the 1930s will probably be fine just the way that they are. The 1940's will be bigger but may be able to stay as a decade. From the 50s on you may wind up wanting to split them by year, especially if you add a large number of photos, film posters or DVD covers. I'll let you know when I get closer to finishing so that you can take a look and decide what you want to do. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 12:57, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I grew up in the mountains but now live in Denver where it has been hot, hot, hot the last few days. I have been avid watcher of British actors as long as I can remember and got to see a couple of plays the summer that I hitchhiked around England and Scotland back in 1980 (that was awhile ago now I'll tell you). Best wishes and keep up the good work. MarnetteD | Talk 13:33, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Avengers was one I got to see when I was young and I loved it. Here in the US they finally showed the Honor Blackman episodes in the late 1980's and that was a real treat. The original series of R&H,D never showed over here (I hope to get it on DVD one day) but the remake aired on BBC America a couple of years ago and I enjoyed it. I recently rewatched the excellent series I, Claudius and added a brief plot synopsis for each episode to it's page here at wikiP. MarnetteD | Talk 13:46, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thai film images[edit]

Sorry my bald-headed friend. I knew you'd be disappointed. The source for Miss Suwanna is a DVD of a 2006 movie. Probably it's public domain, but I don't know anything about Thai copyright law. I've seen some Thai public-domain tags with a 50-year duration noted, but I'm not sure what Suwanna falls under, since the image was grabbed from the DVD, so I decided to play it safe until I can discover more. Anyway, on my 19" CRT screen at home, Miss Suwanna was bumping into the chart, and moving everything over to the right, so she's gone for now. — WiseKwai 15:42, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did see Cinema of the United States, which I checked out after I first got wind of the "image stripping" from the talk page of the Film Project. I'm not sure who the primary editor on that article is. I'd say public domain images would be safe to add, if the subject is discussed at length. For an idea of how images can be safely used in lists, check out List of recordings preserved in the United States National Recording Registry, which is a featured list and contains nothing but public-domain images. I'm thinking the John Wayne filmographies could be FL candidates, if some Public Domain images - (The Searchers (film)!) can be rounded up for them.

On the Thai film location lists, I'm going to have to dump the fair-use images, much as I love them - Scaramanga and Bond, plus De Niro - if I want to submit that list for FL.

What's the link on your deceased actor rationale? — WiseKwai 15:59, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Searchers[edit]

My image removal took place some time ago, and I did not realize that they were in the public domain. Since they were screenshots, I naturally assumed that it was non-free content. Still, though, I think that the images should do more than just decorate the article, even if they're free. How are the screenshots free, though? Does this mean that any screenshot from the film is free? Or just what's available at WikiCommons? —Erik (talkcontrib) - 16:44, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not actively working on the article, so you'll have to take that matter up with the other editors on the film article's talk page. They may be under the same assumption as I was, so explain the free nature of the images and see what you can work out. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 16:49, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Casino Royale[edit]

What was the main reason for the failure of this film's FAC? Can you summarize it for me? I didn't pay very close attention to it. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 16:58, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry[edit]

Hey, I'm sorry that I haven't done anything in the past two weeks. I'm real busy in the summer, I barely have time to do anything. But I see that the wildlife of africa thing is doing great, there's only 23 articles left. I'll try to get as much as I can get done because I have so many trips I have to go on. Fair use rationale for Image:GeneralPushkin.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:GeneralPushkin.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

There is also no rationale for Image:007Saunders.jpg. mattbr 19:01, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You also need to provide the name of the article for which fair use is being claimed (WP:NFCC#10), and the rationale also needs altering as it is not identifying the subject of the article (it is one of the subjects) or the film itself (it's a character from the film). Sorry, mattbr 19:31, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oil Gusher in Balakhany[edit]

Hi Ernst Stavro Blofeld and thanks for your great contribution to WikiProject Films! I had a quick suggestion re Balaxanıda neft fontanı. In English this title means "Oil Gusher in Balakhany", so I thought maybe it would make it easier for non-Azerbaijani speakers if we moved the page to "Oil Gusher in Balakhany"? Or if you think it better stay as it is, then we can create a page with English title and redirect it to Balaxanıda neft fontanı. Whichever you think would work best. Thanks and see you around! Orphaned non-free image (Image:ArgentineAliceinWonderland.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ArgentineAliceinWonderland.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Films[edit]

Hey, how's it going? If you're talking about the film infobox, adding more parameters may be a little overwhelming for the template, but I think the genre parameter would be a good thing to add. If there were set genres listed on the guidelines page and no more than two or three genres were added, then I don't think it would be a problem. I think I remember there being a discussion a while back saying that adding a genre parameter would be open to POV (I don't see how) and would include too many genres as people would add five or more. But if you got a more positive feedback by other members, I think you could add it. If you want to start a task force/department/project (whatever you want to do!) for Western films, that would also depend on the number of people who are interested in it. If its only a couple people, then I'd say use a department, but if you have 15 or more people a task force or project would probably be better. I probably wouldn't help as I got to much other stuff going on, and the Western genre isn't one of my top favorites. Good job on adding the templates, I can definitely start using the Template:Filmrationale as I normally just copy and paste the rationale from another image I uploaded. I might help you with the American films by year down the line, but again, I'm busy right now with GAC. I'll probably tackle a year or two and help out but it could be a few weeks to a few months, I don't know. Good job with everything you have done, and I'll make mention of these various things in this month's newsletter as well. --Nehrams2020 03:17, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

American films by year[edit]

Hi, I've had a look at the lists you've started. I think they're a good thing, and I'll help when I can. I've made some additions to 1960, but I'm not sure what you want to do in this situation - some of the film titles are the American titles for foreign films. eg there's a Kurasawa, and Breathless is French. Should these just be deleted? Also a couple (eg Boeing Boeing) don't have an IMDb listing. I didn't want to remove anything because I didn't know where you drew the list from, but maybe they shouldn't be there? Rossrs 08:40, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see. The list came from categories. eg The Appointment was incorrectly categorised as 1960 film instead of 1969 so that put it on the wrong list. Ignore my previous comment. I'll fix any incorrect entries from here on. Cheers. Rossrs 09:14, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I like the way it's been set up, so yes, when I get a chance, I'll come along and work on a bit of it. Rossrs 13:12, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds good, and the red links will also identify some directors/actors that need articles. All in all, quite useful I think. All the best. Rossrs 13:16, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No it's NOT an atoll![edit]

Hi there, as it seems, you created a bunch of onliner-articles of the pattern Xxxx is an atoll of Yyyy, Tuvalu, for example Motuloa is an atoll of Funafuti, Tuvalu.

Fact is, Motuloa is NOT an atoll of Funafuti. Motuloa is an ISLET of the ATOLL Funafuti, got it? Now please go and fix those 1739 or so other articles that have the same type of mistake.

One final question: what information exists about those 10,000 or 20,000 tiny uninhabited coral islets that warrants a separate Wikipedia article for each of them? --Ratzer 18:04, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shut your mouth. I thought I was stubbing the main islands. If you didn't notice most of them are described as "isle" not atoll -even the template says Isles of etc.... I started with atoll but then realised they were actually small isles. There are only a few which are worded as "atoll". Please don't overreact. I was only trying to help. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 18:07, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And no I don't intend stubbing anymore. What is the point in stubbing 2000 more islands as you think I'm going to if there is no info available and are only 50 metres wide? Did you have to be so patronising and rude to me? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 18:09, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For instance did you check Lafanga and Lekena etc and all of the other articles not on that first atoll? They all say isle NOT atoll. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 18:12, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done - a small error sorry. Was there really any reason to throw such a big song and dance???? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 18:18, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, I don't know why you answered on my page. I moved your answer here so others can also follow the exchange. I shall not take offence in your insulting language (such as "shut your mouth") in order to get good results for Wikipedia. Please note I was talking about islets, not isles, there is a difference. Sorry if I exaggerated, but those 10 or 12 examples that I looked at made me conclude that all islet articles had this same type of error. I concede I didn't take time to look at all of them in a systematic manner. If my conclusion is proven wrong, all the better for Wikipedia.--Ratzer 18:33, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK thanks -I see you have done some very good work on islands -I don't ususually respond negatively its just your message was a little patronising and I am not accustomed to messages like this. Apologies for the error - but I'm glad you noticed and it is now corrected. I usually respond to people on their talk page otherwise many people often don't get the message. All the best and keep up the good work ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 21:04, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks all good, thanks. Maybe now it's time to discuss, perhaps on a larger scale, whether individual islets of atolls, specifically uninhabited ones, warrant their own respective wikipedia articles. I personally tend to think that they do not, and that they can be adequatelly listed within the article of the atoll, perhaps with lines of text or small paragraphs for the larger ones of them, much like in the Peros Banhos or the Rocas Atoll articles. In wikipedia, I consider myself as an inclusionist, and I do favour articles of small, even tiny seemingly unimportant geographical objects, such as Wizard Reef or Thunder Knoll. But features like these are separate geographical objects, not attached to a clear-cut geographical unit such as an atoll.--Ratzer 12:02, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment[edit]

As I looked through your edit history, you sent the same message to other people as well. If you want some help with something with films: post on that project talk page. Don't just go around posting the same message to every films project member. I don't appreciate this at all. RobJ1981 19:44, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, why have you added a Tamil movie such as Children of Mini-Japan to the list of American films of 1990? Also, I think you should rename the links containing things like "(film)" or "(TV film)" to reflect the actual title, like this: [[Film Title (film)|Film Title]]. Thank you. --Emc²contact me 14:23, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re: American films[edit]

I'm not sure what the purpose of the American films list is. We already have films listed by year, which I think should be sufficient. Instead of making this additional list, shouldn't users be trying to improve the existing lists? The scope of American cinema is far too wide for something like this to be practical (or useful). Also, isn't there a rule against publishing pages without content? Most of the yearly pages are [essentially] blank. I don't do much editing anymore, but I thought I'd put my opinion out there. I have tagged Image:IlsignorMax.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. Film task forces[edit]

Hey! Just wanted to give you a heads up that I've edited the task forces section of the WP:FILMS page a little bit. Mainly I've changed it slightly to something similar to what WP:MILHIST has been doing. (I find them an excellent model for WikiProject organization, especially for larger topics.) The biggest element of this is to say that task forces need three things before creation - a large enough scope to remain fruitful fairly indefinitely, a proven interest from a significant number of editors prior to creation, and approval by project consensus in the discussion area (mainly to field concerns regarding the prior two criteria). The idea is to create sustainable task forces which are less prone to wither into inactivity.

I noticed that you created the Spanish cinema task force a few days ago, which I think will hopefully be a productive group soon. Since it predates these changes (as do all the other task forces up to this point), I see no reason why it shouldn't remain. But I'd like to also point out that several of the task forces were created with too few participants to sustain any regular activity. This puts them in the position of having many potentially interested users, but few willing to join due to "broken window syndrome". Additionally, if most or all of our task forces appear this way, it will reflect poorly on the project as a whole, as well as possibly dissuading editors who may be interested in joining or creating valid task forces of their own.

I believe that we see eye-to-eye on this, and would thus like to ask for your support in helping to keep an oversight on the process. Would you do me the pleasure? :) Many thanks, Girolamo Savonarola 04:55, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the task forces as a project in which many members are involved (if there is then great) but I really intended e.g the Italian and Spanish cinema pages to highlight the work and articles that require attention on those respective cinemas -e.g missing films -films that require expansion, films that need cleanup and actors, directors that are missing or need infoboxes etc etc -this way it can only improve the focus of our general project
Unfortunately, the thing is that task forces are explicitly created to function as member-directed mini-projects. They need substantial numbers to be effective. You might want to take a look at WP:TASKFORCE, particularly Setting up a task force structure.
Part of the problem which you seem to be compensating for is the lack of a structured requests subpage. So I took the liberty of setting up this long overdue project subsection/department. You could house your long lists as subsections or links to this page, and I've already restructured the task force request lists to subpages so that they can be transcluded simultaneously to their task force pages and the general requests page.

William McCarver[edit]

Hi I noticed you tagged McCarver. Of course the higgledy piggledy way it is written it should quite rightly be deleted but if sorted out it may qualify for an article -it does seem legitimate just written terribly , terribly!!!!

There are many articles on civil war soldiers

What do you think? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 14:17, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hm. From reading the article I could see nothing that asserted his notability above the hundreds of thousands of other soldiers who fought and died in the civil war. I picked out a few random articles from Category:American military personnel killed in the American Civil War, and found they were mostly officers, or played a significant part in a notable battle, or were especially highly decorated, or any number of other possible claims to fame. Just being some guy who fought and died is not notable by itself (Wikipedia is not a memorial or a genealogy site). ~Matticus TC 14:27, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alas, I don't see a list of Polish films (interestingly, pl wiki rarely has 'Polish specific' articles, I have to pry lot of info from Polish section in general articles, makes lots of interwikis pointless :( -- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  20:13, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia's future[edit]

I hope so, although I have to admit that the past year has seen my Wikiidealism plummet: several editors I respected left, citing that they were increasingly disappointed with incivility and ineffectivnes of wiki policies when dealing with highly biased users pushing fringe theories. And recently I am involved in an ArbCom case around those issues, which has been now dragging for two months, and I have yet to see ArbCommers addressing this issue :( I am afraid that Wikipedia faces a grave peril: if we cannot enforce WP:CIV, it will fall just like edu and sci USENET groups of the early 90s: once seen as a new way for academic collaboration and education of the public, now a flaming playground for trolls... I hope I am wrong, but I am not seeing much evidence for that :( -- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  20:22, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I have taken so long to reply - we have had 6 guests including 2 young children here for the past 10 days and so I have been pretty fully occupied. Interesting you are part Huguenot - I am too - my grandmother's family came from the Channel Islands.

About the monasteries in Tibet - yes, we can probably dig up some information on at least some of the larger ones - and I will try to do some of this when I can spare more time. At the moment, though, I must try to keep focussed on getting my book ready for the publishers. In the meantime, you might like to try the libraries for copies of the following informative books:

  • Vitali, Roberto. Early Temples of Central Tibet. 1990 Serindia Publications. London. ISBN 0-906026-25-3

If you can't find them - don't worry - I have copies here and will get around to them as soon as I can.

Unspecified source for Image:Aapeli.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Aapeli.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:10, 7 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 13:10, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violation in Image:Madhvacharya2.jpg[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Madhvacharya2.jpg, by Venu62 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Madhvacharya2.jpg is unquestionably copyright infringement, and no assertion of permission has been made.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Madhvacharya2.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Orphaned non-free image (Image:I shotthesheriff.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:I shotthesheriff.jpg.

Lim Kay Siu[edit]

There should be a bald-headed villain category. Just kidding. I can't say I know this actor, but I thank you for bringing his article to my attention. Just a note: Anna and the King was not filmed in Thailand -- they wanted to film it in Thailand, but couldn't, because authorities wouldn't allow it. Thai authorities feel the story trivializes and denigrates the Royal Family -- the same argument they used to ban the King and I and Anna and the King of Siam, none of which were made in Thailand either. So Anna and the King was made in Malaysia, though there are quite a few Thai actors as extras. — WiseKwai 16:34, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's interesting that Lim Kay Siu has an older brother, Lim Kay Tong, who is also an established actor. Anna and the King appears on Thailand as a film location, but at the end in a special section for "Films set in Thailand". — WiseKwai 17:10, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your new pic[edit]

Hi Ernst. You pic from Fistful... looked just fine to me. Unfortunately an anonymous editor has removed it without discussion. They have also made a batch of edits that seem to have changed the nature of the plot section. In my opinion they also seem to have made the article less encyclopedic. Khao-I-Dang[edit]

I have had nothing to do with Wikiproject Cambodia, that I know of, though I'm glad to see it up and running. I would like very much to start a Wikiproject Thailand, but have difficulty finding the time I need to do it correctly. On Khao-I-Dang, I would say this could safely be tagged with both WP Cambo and WP SEA because it is in Thailand, but affects Cambodia. That's the threshold for WP SEA articles -- if the subjects are broad enough to cover multiple countries. If it's just a single-country subject, then it's left to that country and not included in WP SEA. Some of the editors of the country projects get pretty excited when their articles get tagged with WP SEA. Nationalism! On the Khao-I-Dang photo, I would strongly urge you to seek permission from the website where you obtained the photo, and see what the website's owner thinks about the copyright tag. I can't see any kind of copyright notice on the website, but I'd ask permission anyway. Maybe there's more of use on that site, and if the guy gives permission, maybe the useful images could be uploaded to the commons. — WiseKwai 12:33, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Saxony is finished, you can check the progress on other states at Wikipedia:WikiProject Germany/Cities. Rhineland-Palatinate is still in progress (but you know that, 2306 municipalities in total), Agathoclea is working on Thuringia (992 munic.), so that leaves Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (849), Saxony-Anhalt (1033) and Schleswig-Holstein (1124) to be done. Tibet[edit]

Hi thanks for your message. I fully agree with you that the article should be proposed for semi-protection so that IP users and new users are not able to edit. Based purely on the fact that the vast majority of the contentious edits are done by anonymous IP users. Most of them being pro PRC, as just now again, user 128.193.80.171, has changed controlled to administered. When I just reverted it, of course they have just added it in again, as well as another POV edit, all without any discussion on the talk page or even the courtesy of an edit summary. I will again try and revert, but will leave it for aa few minutes. Of course it works both ways, and there have been instances of anti-PRC and anti-Chinese POV edits which also need spotting and removing which has been done, but they are few and far between, unlike the constant anonymous IP users, who are constant. So yes I would fully support you in asking for the article to be semi-protected. Thanks. ♦Tangerines BFC ♦·Talk 01:10, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey thanks for the message, I do think that the article should be one that IP users and new users should not be editing, simply because it is a controversial subject, and because it is more often than not, IP users who do the controversial, POV edits and it is constantly the same wording (certainly from those who are pro-PRC). I haven't reverted the template again today because it is the same IP user who chose to leave messages on my talk page when I reverted them the other day. I have though reverted another one of their edits as it is unsourced and the edit summary provides no proof. I'm sure they will revert it again though. Have fun! ♦Tangerines BFC ♦·Talk 20:35, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And lo and behold the one edit I revert, is added back in yet again. I have concerns about the edit because in the edit summary they have stated that it is already sourced (even though they didn't bother linking to it) at note number 28. However, when checked that note is simply an extension of the article and is (in my opinion) not a valid source as it is not verifiable, it is just someones opinion with no source whatsoever. However, I am loathe to simply remove it and to remove th content to which it refers as it will only get added back in again. And given the confused state the article is now in due mostly to the IP user edits, I think it best left to see if the article can be semi-protected, and then the article can be cleaned up. Is there any news on that yet? ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 16:02, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, if it is a semi-protect then it will be IP users and newly registered users (which I think means within four weeks of registering) who are blocked from editing. All other users will still be able to edit once the block is in place. Which will mean we should be able to then get the article back as it should be. I intend removing some of the unsourced and badly sourced material once the block is in place. Thanks again ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 20:34, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmmm, a very odd decision to decline the block. Sorry but there is something distinctly odd about the decision by that admin to decline it. I can understand it not being permanently fully blocked, but at the very least it needs temporary semi-protection in order to bring it back in to order. We know that every time that is attempted, an anon user will come along and undo the work. And as I said, I have serious doubts as to the reasoning why this was declined. The admin has either not looked into it properly and only had a cursory look over tyhe articles history or it is some other reason. I don't see why this should be dropped, and presume there is somewhere this can be brought up to disagree with the decision? ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 22:02, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have mentioned it on the talk page here asking if a decison can be appealed as it just appears to have been flippantly done at best to decline. Whatever happens I fully intend removing some of the content relating to the 13th Dalai Lama which includes a supposed source, yet when the ref note is checked there is no actual source, certainlyu not one that can be checked. However, with the decision I have no intention of just letting that lie! Legitimate concerns = pro PRC bias. Have fun! ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 22:19, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great articles you have been creating this week - Vann Nath in particular was a criminal gap in our Cambodia coverage - and great to have you as part of the project. Wow! Absolutely amazing stuff - alright, if you're serious about more work that's very easy - see List of Cambodians for a merry collection of mostly red links. Be warned there are some non-notable entries there (I haven't cleaned up) and it's a mess generally. I'm happy to give a call on notability if you have questions. One of the entries was speedied last week. I retrieved the text from the deleting admin and put it here User:Paxse/Sandbox4. He's young but notable, exhibits in 3 countries etc - but was also a COI violation :) That one will need some good references to avoid being re-deleted. Feel free to work on it in my sandbox. Nop Bayarith was also speedied last week and is notable - you could get the text back or just restart. Let me know about any new articles, either on my page or in the wikiproject pages (I'll set up a new articles list) and I'll tag 'em, assess 'em and add them to this master list List of Cambodia-related topics. That list is pretty up to date, though you and Wisekwai have kept me running to keep up :) Thanks for all your great work! Paxse 18:00, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No pressure :> If you have a go at some of the District articles can I suggest the naming convention districtname (district)? This will avoid problems later on as many of the district capitals have the same name as the district. Replaceable fair use Image:QBoat.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:QBoat.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 19:35, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This template is a start in the right direction but isn't there yet. A fair use rationale must be given for each article an image is included in, and must explain why the image is acceptable in that article. You might be able to fix the template by taking a parameter for the name, but look at examples like Image:CyrilLuckham.jpg where the image is used in multiple articles - it won't work for both to use the same rationale in most cases. I suggest you ask about this at WP:FURG. In the meantime, I will leave the images alone. — Carl (CBM · talk) 01:17, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries[edit]

Hello, I have noticed that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! Akop Sanasaryan, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case an editor does not feel that Akop Sanasaryan satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; they explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Akop Sanasaryan and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Akop Sanasaryan during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. I see you have an image of Takshang Monastery. A place with many similarly located monastaries is Meteora in Greece. A very fascinating area. Several of the monasteries allow visits by tourists. Here are a number of other images. -- Fyslee/talk 19:45, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ernst, I'm sorry because I very busy last week. I have been studying languages at university (UFMG) and the last term was finished last week. Then, I just have read your message today. How are you? I'm fine. Thanks a lot for your comments about my articles about wildlife. Best wishes, --Ricardo 22:47, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Film newsletter[edit]

I just started the newsletter today (halfway through the month, well...better then last month!) and have included some information about the two templates you mentioned to me on my talk page a few weeks ago and also a request for members to consider tackling the List of American films by year. If there is anything else that I should mention let me know. If you're still going to think about starting the film westerns project, also let me know. Is it already being requested for creation, or do you want a message in the newsletter asking if there any interested members that would consider joining to leave you a message, or something to that effect. --Nehrams2020 00:28, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Old nomad tenttibet.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Old nomad tenttibet.jpg.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:49, 16 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Allen3 talk 12:49, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, again[edit]

I'm here to tell you that most of my summer trips are over and i can get to work on this stuff. I'm about to start working on having at least 10 stub articles, on the African wildlife, and hopefully 3-5 main articles on African wildlife, before summer is over. I need to rest today but definately by tommorrow or the next day. Oh, and my account got deleted for some reason so I'm mattkenn4, not mattkenn3, mattkenn2, or mattkenn.Mattkenn4 20:47, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:NeelyCapshaw.jpg[edit]

I have tagged Image:NeelyCapshaw.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. Other user's accounts[edit]

There is, in fact, no policy prohibiting a user from having multiple accounts, provided that thy are not used disruptively. For example WP:UN says: "It is recommended that users not edit under multiple usernames, except with good reason. For example, prominent users might create a new account in order to experience how the community functions for new users, or users editing under their real name may want an alternate pseudonymous account for editing articles they would not want their real name associated with. Also, users running a bot are expected to run this under an alternative account. If you use multiple accounts, it is recommended that you explain this on your user page."

Merging another user's user page, unless there has been some consensus-based decision that abusive sockpupptry is involved, is a bad idea, and it is certainly not a valid reason to tag such pages for deletion. I am undoing these merges and removing the tags. DES (talk) 15:28, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To what "mesage to you" do you refer? Please provide a link or diff. in any case, unless he requested a merge or deletion, doing so is inappropriate. DES (talk) 15:34, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any warrent in that message to merge or delete user pages. DES (talk) 15:36, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good reason for leaving him msgs explainign the situation, and perhaps addign links from each user page to the other user pages. It is not a good reason for merging his pages, much less deleting some of them. DES (talk) 15:38, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry if thius became an annoyance for you. encounterd these pages patrolling requested speedy deletions, because of your tags. I accept that you were trying to help a probably confused user. Thanks for your efforts. DES (talk) 15:45, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cricket tours of Sri Lanka[edit]

Well, it's a bit of dilemma, James, because frankly I'd be happy to just have all of these as redlinks on the template until they are developed offline. They certainly can be developed and there is a lot of available data to be used. I am currently working through the whole lot to place an attention tag on any that do not give much information (I've moved on to New Zealand for the moment) and then I intend to provide the information to the same extent that I have done recently on South African cricket team in England in 1998. So, it would probably be best to be patient a while longer and see how I get on.

The problems are volume (I have calculated that there are 824 tour articles worldwide) and the time to do it. Really, I should not have created these in the first place: the words "more", "chew" and "bitten" spring to mind. If you want to go to AfD then I won't oppose you but I think with a concentrated effort over the next couple of months I can get all of these to the same level as the 1998 tour. All the best. --BlackJack | talk page 19:16, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There definitely is enough information available to expand every single article to the size of West Indian cricket team in Sri Lanka in 2005 which is probably the best on that template at present. Can you direct me to the source of those two expand and construct tags you mentioned: it seems a good idea to use those. --BlackJack | talk page 19:38, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

my accounts[edit]

I am very confused with my accounts, and am happy that you're trying to help me with them. Here, I'll tell you what is happening. I started my first account, mattkenn, last year. But one day, about four months after I made the account, I went to log-in and it said I had the wrong password, but I didn't. I tried to get on my account a few more times but it wouldn't let me on. So I made mattkenn2, and it did the same thing about two months after it was made. So I made mattkenn3, and it did the same thing in about three months. So that's how I got to mattkenn4, and if I don't figure out what's going on, I'll probably be mattkenn5 in a few months. So if you can tell me what's happening just tell me. Then after I know what's going on and we get it fixed, I can merge them and be just one person, instead of four. Thanks.Mattkenn4 20:11, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Passwored expiration[edit]

You wrote "From what I see it looks like his password appeas to have an expiry date - this can be fixed in my preferences can't it?"

There is (I am reasoanbly sure) no such thing as a password expiration date on wikipedia. What can expire is a password cookie of the sort created by the "Remember me" checkbox in the log-on screen. If that cookie exires and the password has not been remembered or recored correctly by the user, acess will be lost.
The best way to handle such duplicate accounts is to mark inactive ones as such, with a link to the active account, but NT to delete them, for history and transparancey. DES (talk) 20:34, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am awiting clear confirmation from the user of which name he plans to use from now on -- apparently he is currently able to access two of his four -- and what he wants done with user info on the other pages. There is no need to rush here. It would also help if you would indent talk page comments, and when you quote another user, make clear exactly what content you are quoting. Best practice is to supply a link or diff in most cases. DES (talk) 20:58, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmation[edit]

Okay, listen, retire mattkenn and mattkenn4. Then i'll have a link to mattkenn2 that has all my personal info about myself. I will have all my wikipedian info on mattkenn3. so if they want wiki info they look at mattkenn3, if they want personal info they click the linkMattkenn3 21:07, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Imitation[edit]

Hi, as I have Tibet related pages on my watchlist, one edit came up this evening from a user called Tangerime who has seemingly only just started posting on wikipedia and whose only contribution thus far has been to add WP:China to large numbers of talk pages. They have done nothing but add that, and under a name that lo and behold is one letter differnt to mine (minus the "s" of course). Quite pathetic really. ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 00:18, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dearie me, I asked an admin what to do (bearing in mind my concerns as to why the name had been chosen) and they told me to bring it up at an admin page for usernames. Which I did, and wish I hadn't when I got replies, as I got told the username isn't similar because Tangerime doesn't have an "s" at the end, and I was also told in no uncertain terms that I should have approached the user first. This despite being told to simply go to that admin page and express my concerns by an Admin. Hilarious really, can't do right for doing wrong. ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 14:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cambodian films[edit]

I'm closing in on the filmography of Rithy Panh. Next up will be the films of Norodom Sihanouk, which you've already started on. There's a pretty good link to his films now in the external links at List of Cambodian films (recently revamped into chronological format). His earlier films from the 1960s are not on IMDb. If you can read French it will help. A couple other interesting films might be Moto Thief (love the title) and the new rom-com Staying Single When. Another good entry to start would be Tum Teav, which is an epic romance of classic Cambodian literature. — WiseKwai 08:04, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hundreds of films were produced in Cambodian during the 1960s and early 70s. To hear stories of those days, the streets of Phnom Penh were paved with gold and everyone was happy happy happy. The Khmer Rouge had a different view, unfortunately. Most of the old films are presumed lost. I don't know of any websites that comprehensively chronicle Cambodian film, other than the Visiting Artists site that is used as reference on Cinema of Cambodia. I hope to visit Phnom Penh in the coming months, and will hopefully have time to pay a visit to Rithy Panh's Bophana center, as well as markets around Phnom Penh, in an effort to find out more about Cambodian film. — WiseKwai 08:34, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome entry on Loto. City of Ghosts is a sight to see because of that scene he's in; very surreal. James Caan sings karaoke in Khmer. — WiseKwai 08:40, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See Angkor and Die, starring Roland Eng, Cambodian ambassador to the United States. — WiseKwai 08:46, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tum Teav, Tum Teav, Tum Teav please! This entire city stopped when that remake was first in theaters - I've never seen anything like it. There was a copycat rip off version out (in theaters too) within a month. All my kids enjoy the story and it's one of the classics. Loto was excellent Blofeld, but Chum Mey was even better. Btw, I found out today that Sihanouk gave all of his films to Monash university (Australia) some time ago - preserving them for posterity no doubt. It could be worth getting in touch with them for info.

Unfortunately it has become the "known" name for the Industry, but that's not like Hollywood a name of an area associated with the film industry- it's origins were derogatory and disparaging, and it's not a term really used by the industry. Danube[edit]

Yes I can. I will use the official classification of rivers in Romania which groups some of the smaller basins in order not to have a separate basin for every small creek. I will however do it at a later date, after finalizing the main structure. The issue is that I will probably have to split even the bigger tributaries. Anyway I will take care of the matter.Afil 17:38, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would. But take into account that I am an American and that the rivers are in Romania. That complicates the matter of taking pictures. By the way. I didn't find any site for the Hungarian catchment areas. It could be a source of inspiration so that whatever I do is similar.Afil 18:45, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Namaste from Nepal[edit]

Hi there, thanks a lot for your interest in Nepal and the Himalayan regions. About hospitals of Nepal, I was working on Hospitals of Nepal and had collected some information as well as photographs of these hospitals. I was covering hospitals of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kabhre, Sunsari etc. and got a few picutures myself(for GNU open source) and was sorting out the information leaflets, national health policies of Nepal etc. when I started pouring some of the information into wikipedia. I started with a few stubs, a list page and a template containing all the hospitals. I thought that some other people could add on to that while I could arrange the information that I had collected in a more "encyclopedic" manner. Then came this "hostile takeover" and I was invited to justify the template containing hospitals of Nepal (against its deletion) and all the stubs were redirected to a single page. There is almost no information of hospitals of Nepal online. I can earn money setting up a website pertaining to Nepalese hospitals or submitting the information that I collected to some newspapers as articles. However, I chose wikipedia thinking that knowledge should be shared and I got that hostile response. This was the thing that turned me off. I am working on posting the Nepalese hospital stuffs in Nepal Bhasa wikipedia. Once I am done with some of the work over there, I will restart the project over here as well. Thanks. --Eukesh 16:45, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have already created article about all the municipalities and VDCs of Nepal using a python code from a bot called EukeshBot in Nepal Bhasa and some in Nepali and Hindi. The bot approval system here is a bit complex. If I can get a bot flagged here, I would be happy to create those articles over here as well. Also, I need some help with locator map of Nepal. Thanks.--Eukesh 17:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your help requested[edit]

Hello Ernst. Could you please take a look at this thread [1] started by User:Lightmouse regarding the editors feeling that underconstruction tags should be removed after only a short period of time and that maybe a bot could do it. I have already posted my reasons that this should not occur, but if I am the only one who does this it may carry no weight. I restored the ones at the "list of Chilean films" and the "list of British films 1970s" that the editor had removed. Thanks for your help and cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 19:54, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. Just so you know about a month ago (give or take) an editor went thru the Brit film lists and took out all of the blank spaces. It is so much easier to have those blank spaces there so that I can just cut and paste the info from a given films page. When I contacted them asking that they please not do this they told me that I should have had the tags up, and they are still there in the hopes of preventing this from happening again. I don't know whether you feel like getting involved but if you do could you please add a post to the discussion page above about the time limit they are suggesting being too short and stressing the need that they need to contact the editor before removing the tags. If you don't want to that is okay too. Have a great weekend. MarnetteD | Talk 20:28, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good if you can find them. I would request that they be hidden in each year rather then just at the beginning of the page, but I'll bet you already thought of that.

If you haven't already seen them they have come out with new souped up DVD's of Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More. They have interviews with C Frayling and Clint but the extra that I really like is a then and now comparison of the locations in Spain where they were filmed. The people involved really do a good job of matching up skylines and such. Worth a look if you get the chance. MarnetteD | Talk 20:39, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks great many thanks.MarnetteD | Talk 20:42, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tum Teav[edit]

Hi Ernst Stavro Blofeld. You are off to such a great start on the article Tum Teav that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. The Main Page gets about 4,000,000 hits per day and appearing on the Main Page may help bring publicity and assistance to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created and if you haven't already done so, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. If you do nominate the article for DYK, please cross out the article name on the "Good" articles proposed by bot list. Also, don't forget to keep checking back at Did you know suggestions for comments regarding your nomination. Again, great job on the article. -- Jreferee (Talk) 21:08, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:GerardoRomano.jpg.

Thank you. Rettetast 23:08, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:30, 22 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Bleh999 08:30, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Genre sorting[edit]

Hi again! Yes, I think they could all use a sorting. Which reminds me, I was browsing and sorting through films on the list of american films..list, and I often encounter short animated features (random Chuck Jones shorts) and some direct-to-dvd and made-for-tv films. Should we include these in the lists? Or is this specifically a list of films that have made it into a theatre release, or by any chance have at least gotten play at some film festivals? Andrzejbanas 09:30, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was going through the list in the Films by Genre styling, and although I think some are highly appropriate I was digging throught and wondering if we could get rid of or clean up.

Defining[edit]

For examine, is "aniamtion" really a genre? I understand why it would be good to have a list of animated films, but it always felt more like a medium. Same with american anime, stop-motion, etc.

Biopics is good I suppose, I may lean it as usually would easily fit alongside Drama films, but It can stand where it is I think for now fine.

Should blaxploitation and exploitation be merged in a sense? Both seem to be genres that have died out since Blockbuster era for the 80's and such.

Maybe re-name children's as "family" or something. Not that upset over it.

Since we are going to split these lists up by the year and we already have them split up by country, I think we could merge Comedy films. Except maybe comedy-drama, as those films kind of stand out I always thought.

Crime is good, I'd merge in Gangster films with it though I think.

List of Independent shorts doesn't sound like a genre enough to me...hmm..

Although a list of Pirate films is fun, I think that should probably tossed in to "Adventure films"...a list we don't seem to have here! Interesting...

Romantic drama maybe should be just changed to Romance.

Conspiracy thriller could be merged into simply "Thriller".

And since we are splitting countries up already on their own, Spaghetti Westerns could be joined up with regular westerns.

Other genres to add I think which could be good would be "Mystery", "Action", ..maybe Historical but I guess that could balence with Biopics somehow.

So basically i'd say switching this list...

Animation • American anime • Computer animation • Biopics • Blaxploitation • Children • Comedy • American comedy • British comedy • Comedy-Sci-Fi • Comedy-drama • Comedy-horror • Crime • Disaster • Documentary • Drama • Exploitation • Fantasy • Film noir • Gangster • LGBT • Horror • Independent short • Model animation • Musical • Parody • Pirates • Romantic drama • Sci-Fi • Sports • Stop-Motion • Thriller • Conspiracy thriller • War • Western • Spaghetti western •

Into something maybe like this.

Action • Adventure •Animation • Biopics • Comedy • Comedy-drama • Crime • Disaster • Documentary • Drama • Exploitation • Family • Fantasy • Film noir • Horror • LGBT • Mystery • Musical • Romance • Sci-Fi • Sports • Thriller • War • Western •

I'm glad you agree! :) I'll get going on trying to do some of these up. Also, I just remembered another genre that should be added, perhaps a list of "Avant-garde" or experimental films that seemed to pop up when I was doing up some years of films. It's basically one of the earliest film genres so it'll probably should be added as well! Andrzejbanas 10:01, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again Yes I agree, I'll still continue assisting the list of American films, and other countries as well. I just wanted to get a head start on the genre list before it gets out of hand here as well. To get help, I think we should post for people at certain wikigroups, WP:Horror and WP:Science fiction, WP:Comedy, and of course WP:Film to get some people to add to our list of films and what not at their pace, to definitly speed up the process of getting this done. :) Andrzejbanas 10:12, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Flags[edit]

Hi again! I see the idea of the flags with the text beside it would be good so you could click on the country. However, I purposely put only the flagicon deal in to make it so we don't get huge fumblingly sized area. With the tiny flags, the country is recognizable and it doesn't take up too much space. The only downside is you can't click the flag to get to the country.

Which method do you prefer? I want to hear your preference as well! :) Andrzejbanas 11:03, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm inclined to agree, i'll get to helping you with that. In a minute, after anyone sees what we are doing, I'd be really suprised if they'd disagree. Andrzejbanas 11:23, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also be careful! You seem to be working on a page titled "Lists of comedy films". So we'll have to move the information over later so it's on "List of comedy films" Andrzejbanas 11:24, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay! Glad we came to agree on the flags then. I'll fix the other flags on the horror pages too so they match before it gets out of hand there as well. Andrzejbanas 11:56, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, good idea. I'm going to clean-up those flags in horror first, then perhaps i'll start sorting through that Parody films and place the films in the correct decade later as well. Andrzejbanas 12:00, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
on looking at the parody list, it doesn't really need to be converted, all the films on it are already on the others lists of comedy films. So we don't really need them listed twiceAndrzejbanas 12:15, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
alright, i've added the parody list to all the articles. Is there any more to add around?
I'm not quite sure! All this re-organizing lists as in such a rush this recently has put my head in a really huge spin. :) I'd probably make a post about it a WP:Films, to get their suggestion. If anyone replies there that is...Andrzejbanas 12:45, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Even though there is no adventure icon yet, I'd still leave them seperate as we still do have some fairly good enough distinctly Adventure films over Action ones. Enter the Dragon and Die Hard are different from Indiana Jones and the Pirates of the Carribian films, and those are still being made. Adventure films seem to cross over a lot as well though, such as through fantasy adventures aladdin and time bandits, to more kiddy types as well like Happy Feet. These films are way different then action! I'd keep 'em seprate for now.

As for action, I'm trying to think when it really came into play as a genre, I'm going to assume around the mid-50's when sci-fi flicks started using laser guns and such. Andrzejbanas 13:33, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can see the hook for the article at Template talk:Did you know#Articles created on July 19 where you can improve it if you see fit. So there! Paxse 11:44, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adventure film icon[edit]

Hmm. I think I can come up with something similar to the crime film icon. Maybe there's a cartoon pith helmet about. — WiseKwai 15:51, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that palm icon fairly well rocks. In the context of the adventure film list, it should get the point across. I wonder if there is an adventure film stub category? — WiseKwai 15:55, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done: Image:Adventurefilm.png. On Vietnamese film, there's a lot of work to do, and a lot of films. The industry is nowhere near the level of Thailand, but it has steady output and plenty of notable figures involved. — WiseKwai 16:17, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi and thanks for your contribs Sir Blofeld. Thanks for putting Cambodia on the map. Also please be careful with FU pics. Hi, I think you started that page. I just wanted to tell you that I updated everything on the article but someone reverted my work. Please handle that on your own. Thanks. --User:Beans420 23:22, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was me who reverted. This user is a suck puppet of some user here. He messed up with cast that's why I reverted. Now I reverted my own edits and corrected all his mistakes, so it's OK. Best regards, --ShahidTalk2me 10:31, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How've you been? No he is not banned. It's a user who doesn't want to edit with his usual username cause he knows that his edits will be reverted anyway in this case. He messes cast credits and removes names. Even though he filled the tables, he uses this occasion to mess cast credits and remove names. I'm tired. It is his third or fourth suck puppet and I'm sure that he is the one. I didn't even come to him to say that. I'm waiting for the moment. He is obsessed with one actress and hates another one... It's tiresome. Best regards, --ShahidTalk2me 10:41, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Tamil list? Can you give me the link please?:) I'm not an expert cause I have seen just something like 30 Tamil films in my life, but I can use an external link to escort me. Best regards, --ShahidTalk2me 10:53, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeh it's empty. Needs help. I'l try to insert the films firstly. I'll copy an empty table to each decade and then insert the films. --ShahidTalk2me 10:59, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See List of Tamil films: 2000s please. I prepared the tables, and inserted the films into the first section of 2000 films. I don't really know who the actors are and other details, so I think the most important thing now is to prepare the tables. There must be someone who knows these details. What do you think about the first section? OK, I guess I'll continue latter. Thanks, --ShahidTalk2me 11:42, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh goodness, I don't think so! Polbot is pulling information from the IUCN redlist, which lists species that are endangered, threatened, or extinct. My comment was meant to indicate how far we are from describing all species on earth. The WikiProject Plants has about 15,000 articles at the moment with millions of plant species total. Copyright status of Prasat Phum Prasat[edit]

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Prasat Phum Prasat. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://www.tourismcambodia.com/Attractions/KampongThom/ in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Prasat Phum Prasat with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:Prasat Phum Prasat with a link to the details.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a {{hangon}} tag on the article page and leave a note at Talk:Prasat Phum Prasat saying you have done so. An administrator will review the new content before taking action.

Please don't refer to your fellow editors as "freaks". I declined the speedy deletion of Prasat Phum Prasat, but I also wiped out the section that was extremely close to the source text from the website listed in external links; close enough that it was questionable when it comes to questions of copyright. If you wish to readd the section, please rewrite it in your own words.--Isotope23 talk 18:01, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Even with an "under construction tag" it's better to not hew too close to the source material. TfD nomination of Template:Filmrationale[edit]

Template:Filmrationale has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. — Abu badali (talk) 19:55, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My priority is ensuring that it is not deleted because for what you created it for was exactly what we needed. I would be interested in the new template that Erik is proposing below, so hopefully we see that developed as well. I think the only reason that we could possibly rename it for is to ensure that editors are not using it for screenshots throughout the article or other promotional artwork, etc. that need a more detailed and individual FUR. Maybe they want filminfoboximageFUR or something along those lines. Hopefully this is not deleted, and I'm not going to be around a computer long enough over the next few days to determine if it gets saved or not, so keep watching out for it. --Nehrams2020 17:58, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Hello Abu the Bad[edit]

Ahhh. I'm sick of having messages to do with images. I thought I had come up with a solution to solve it and then this happens. Wikipedia can be very demanding at times!! Everybody I know copies a written rationale onto uploaded images anyway. Film posters really don't have different rationales!!! I'd propose modifying it to make it more specific. Why do you have to waste time!!! ♦ Dr. Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 19:59, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mate keep it real. I was kidding. I thought the template was an excellent solution to performing repetitive tasks -when people contribute as much to films as I do and upload many images a day to try to improve article it is a blessing. Now why would you want to go ahead and delete something useful to film contributors huh? ♦ Dr. Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 20:12, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it should be deleted by the reasons explained here. If you think that rationale is o.k. to explain some of the images you uploaded, maybe you shouldn't have uploaded that image at all. Remember that we only use non-free material as a last resort. --Abu badali (talk) 20:19, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ernst, I don't think that the template is applicable to use for all non-free images in film articles. What it could be used for, though, is for film posters that serve as the lead image in film articles. The ten-point criteria meets identification purposes. However, with the usage of a production still or a screenshot would warrant specific detail about why it should be used, such as what I've done here. Can I suggest, instead, that we create a page somewhere on WikiProject Films where we can provide the layout of the ten-point criteria so it can be copied/pasted? Here's what I'm thinking:

== Summary ==
INSERT SUMMARY DESCRIBING THE IMAGE AND INCLUDE THE FILM'S TITLE IN THE DESCRIPTION.
Copyright INSERT STUDIO NAME AND FILM'S RELEASE YEAR (i.e., 20th Century Fox. 2007.)

==Source==
*PROVIDE AN EXTERNAL LINK OF WHERE YOU FOUND THE IMAGE.

==Fair use rationale for INCLUDE FILM TITLE AND WIKI-LINK HERE==
#No free equivalent exists that would INSERT EXPLANATION WHY THE IMAGE SHOULD GO INTO THE ARTICLE.
#The image does not in any way limit the ability of the copyright owners to market or sell their product.
#The image is only used once and is rendered in low resolution to avoid piracy.
#The image has been published outside Wikipedia; see source above.
#The image meets general Wikipedia content requirements and is encyclopedic.
#The image meets Wikipedia's media-specific policy.
#The image is used in the article wiki-linked in the section title.
#The image is significant in illustrating INSERT EXPLANATION OF WHAT THE IMAGE ILLUSTRATES.
#The image is used in the article namespace.
#The image has a brief description that identifies the image, notes the source, and provides attribution to the copyright holder.

== Licensing ==
{{Non-free film screenshot}}

Let me know what you think. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 20:27, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I will see if there is a place to put it on WikiProject Films. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 20:29, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, as a template... that would be complicated. I was thinking about having it in nowiki so it can be copied and pasted. I don't have the skill to create the code, but I suppose it could look like this:

{{filmrationale | summary = | studio = | releaseyear = | sourcelink = | sourcename = | article = | whynofreeequivalent (need something shorter) = | siginillust = }}

I have no idea how to write that, though. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 20:33, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Provincial template[edit]

I think it looks excellent - great work again. Well done for surviving a speedy tag on one of the new articles. I wanted to talk to you about that. I'm noticing a heavy deletion push on En WP at the moment, particularly focussed on lists and non-western articles. According to the last Version 1.0 bot run, Wikiproject Cambodia has 678 articles. However, 75% of those are stubs and another 20% are start class. A fair number of stubs are close to a single line of text and many of the older ones are completely unreferenced. In this current insane deletionist climate, I think it would be a good idea to try and add references to all the stubs and expand the one line entries. Otherwise I think we (I?) am going to be spending most of my time in deletion discussions in the future. I'm really reluctant to dampen your enthusiasm, because you are adding excellent content at an incredible pace - you and Wisekwai have taken Cambodian arts coverage to new heights over the last week or so - but I think it would be good to ease off on creating new Cambodia articles and try to get some of these stubs up to start class. What do you reckon? Paxse 13:25, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Gronberg.jpg.

List of North Korean films[edit]

What's the basis for saying North Korea has only made forty films? The IMDB lists 43, and, given the difficulty of finding information about the country, that's probably nothing like the real total. This article from 1992 [2] says it makes (or at least made at that time) eighty films every year:

Nowadays, the sprawling studio west of Pyongyang produces about 40 films annually, with six other facilities wrapping an additional 40 features every year.

If that's true, the IMDB list is only a tiny fraction of all North Korea's film output.--GagHalfrunt 00:57, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Missing films[edit]

You might also want to keep my Master list on hand - many of these titles may have multiple entries on IMDb. The list includes director and year info. Girolamo Savonarola 15:39, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page seems to work fine for me here at work. Odd. It's basically a meta-list of a miscellany of "best of" lists I've stumbled across over the years. About 6000 films in all. The requests list was derived from it after I scrubbed out the blue links and dabbed false blues. Girolamo Savonarola 18:17, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the AfD heads up - I appreciate that in particular even though we have very different opinions regarding the lists. I decided to retract my comments, though - I think a widespread guideline discussion really is the best place. While I don't approve of a lot of these lists, I'm (marginally) willing to live and let live for the moment. What would be ideal is for the devs to implement proper category histories and also allow for dynamically-generated cross-cats. Girolamo Savonarola 18:49, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree about the overly-trivial lists, of course! :) Regarding the more objective, but still-sprawling lists, my concern at this point is less at the editing level anymore and more towards getting a fire under the devs' naughty bits to hurry up and implement something. Let's be honest: if the additions/deletions to categories were viewable and watchable as a history page, there's be no need for most if not all of these mega lists.
Second, breaking all cats into "atomic" size and allowing for dynamically cats-on-request would mean that you could search for 1952 French-language American films by doing a cross-search on the cats for 1952 films, French-language films, and American films. And it could be as frivolous as the user desires, with the added benefit that it doesn't actually create an article.
Both of these features have been requested for at least a few months now (but I suspect that their obvious benefits means that they've been conceived for years). Therefore I'm going to try to lobby the MediaWiki devs to prioritize this and thus hopefully kill many birds with one PHP stone. Girolamo Savonarola 19:29, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, it wouldn't be complex at all - quite the opposite! That's what I'm saying - all cats would be as basic as possible - then the user can auto-generate more specific cats by requesting an intersection category between two existing categories. The resulting category would be visible essentially as a search result of what articles are in both primary categories, but this wouldn't exist on the database as an intersection category - it's just dynamically generated for the user only by request. I noticed that you moved Zhang Zhung culture to Zhang Zhung using cut and paste. Cut and paste moves are not permitted, as the lose the edit history and created a violation of the GFDL, which requires that the history stay with the article. I know that an admin can fix it, but I don't know how to request this. Perhaps you could take responsibility for getting it fixed, since you did it? GlassFET 20:46, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Work on Tibetan subjects[edit]

Am thrilled to see you are still working away on Tibetan subjects! Hopefully, I will be able to contribute more soon too. I think I may finally get my book off to the publishers next week (after 27 years work on it!!!!). Until then - keep up your good work! Cheers, John Hill 22:40, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Holy spring cleaning Batman, what have you done...[edit]

... with Phnom Penh? It's been spiffylified, beautified and gorgeousicated - damn it, it looks good. I turn my back for a few moments and you've turned my dusty little town into a world class holiday destination - amazing. Alright, I promise I'll come and help out soon. Inspired by you and Wise, I've been researching a secret project to collect my own Cambodian DYK. I daren't tell you any more my little leek-clutching mastermind - you'd swiftly turn my chosen article into an FA and deprive me of my glory. ;) Paxse 09:00, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Very, very cool indeed. I saw everything (watchlist says - blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, blofeld, etc) I've got a groovy script for tagging and assessing so I'll tag the articles later. But I've still got a couple of micro stubs under my eye for DYK expansion - FER CHRISSAKE'S GO TAKE A REST YOU MANIC BASTARD - and stay awa' fra ma wee stubbies, ye greet bald-headed dandelion-weavin' sassanach! :) :) :) :) :) Paxse 10:50, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'll be serious (briefly) - love the new templates and all those districts and roads. I think we should leave the Ankorian sites off the Siem Reap template for a couple of reasons:

  1. There will be other places to add to each provincial template as time goes on
  2. The Angkorian site template is incomplete anyway - there are many more sites all over the country including in Siem Reap province (+Thailand and Laos).

Let's leave it at population and geographic features for now - I think they look awesome. Paxse 13:12, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shit, almost forgot - can you insert an 'edit me' link back to the template page for each of those? It's a pain when you see a template that needs editing/updating and then have to use the search function to find it. Hmmm, at the moment none of the template pages seem to link back to their cats either. (edit conflict on my page) Paxse 13:20, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The lack of photos is amazing isn't it? This has got to be the most photogenic country I've ever seen. I've got boxes of film here - professional and just for fun - but no time to search and scan yet. I've spent the last day or two hunting out some free license stuff to put up (not mine) - I'll keep you posted. I'm going to have to abandon film for digital soon - so damn easy, snap then upload. My long term goal (with the families enthusiastic consent) is to illustrate all 185 district articles (plus the towns) with some nice photos. I travel around the country a fair bit for work so it should be possible. But we are talking years here - not Blofeld style minutes - ;) Any Phnom Penh or nearby (Kandal, Kampong Speu) photos you'd like, just holler - I've got a newish film in and it's a small country. I've already got a pile of 30 or so snaps ready to add to articles shortly. I really like the images you put into Phnom Penh. God that made a difference. Paxse 14:15, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Molyvann - yeah, I'm planning to meet him and Vann Nath (like to buy me one of his painting too). Nath is exhibiting at the moment and Molyvann runs occasional architecture tours for schools and such (to earn a little cash). I'm trying to get free to catch both of them and take a few snaps. Dy Saveth should be fairly easy too - she works at RUPP where I teach part time. I'll find out which faculty and go flatter Cambodia's Brigitte Bardot :) Paxse 14:22, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just tagging and noticed I left you an old message on the talk page of Chhlang - I can expand it a little, if I know where you heard/read Chhlang? Any ideas? Paxse 18:05, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You mean you don't know where they are? then what about this diff [3]? I'm confused. Paxse 18:51, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So, when are you coming over for a visit to see all this funky geography? Paxse 19:36, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:KyaaKoolHaiHum.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:KyaaKoolHaiHum.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 20:32, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at the notes on the talk page, only two photos must be kept. You've left four, so two have to go.

It was SpecialWindler talk who stipulated two photos only. You would need to take it up with him.

Welcome[edit]

Thanks for your welcome.

Tovojolo 09:27, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Goldfinger (film), Hagia Sophia[edit]

Perhaps he needs a gentle reminder that Wikipedia works on the basis of consensus and that peremptory deletions are not allowed, ie, he's just deleted the image of Hagia Sophia that you put on.

Working on a Project means working together, he needs to be reminded of that.

Tovojolo 13:04, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NPA[edit]

He's reverted my edits too and made a smart alecky comment.

I had to remind him of WP:NPA.

Perhaps he needs to be warned that if he doesn't behave co-operatively, he will be excluded from the James Bond project ?

Tovojolo 13:15, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From Russia with Love (film), Gadgets[edit]

He just deleted the gadget section of From Russia with Love which is what you said he did on Goldfinger.

If he carries on, he'll have to be told his contributions are no longer required by the James Bond Project.

Tovojolo 13:27, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Harrison Ford[edit]

Thanks for the pithy comment. Much appreciated. You may notice that I have put "although I hope it isn't" underneath the rfu and a copy of this photo has been uploaded by somebody else and is on the Indiana Jones page. All I want is clarification on this. Oh, and could you edit your comment and put a title to it? Nice. (Quentin X 15:01, 28 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Hmmm...[edit]

I've been researching an article on Wat Bakan for about three weeks now. It's the local pagoda for the family and has a fascinating history. I've hunted around the Buddhist Institute for references and information on the history and legends surrounding it and I'm currently translating about 20 pages from Khmer to English (when I have time) to get the main sources where I can use them easily. The next step, is a trip up to Pursat in August to visit the family and get some nice photos. Then I was planning on putting up a decent draft and submitting it for DYK. I'd really like to see this pagoda on the front page - a real international moment for Wikipedia. Now as you've stubbed it already (with my text, ya cheeky bugger) - I'll have to increase the length by a factor of five to qualify for the front page - SHIT!

I still think you do great work - I just need to go away and weep quietly for a while, Cheers, Paxse 20:54, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bond girls by film[edit]

Sorry, that was me. User Va... Pheprg(whetever) changed all the Bond girls to "by film". But he had no consuesus to do such a move. I reverted all, but I can't move the "by film" back to their original state. I've posted on WP:Requested Moves to revert these for me (So List of Bond Girls in The Man with the Golden Gun should be moved to Mary Goodnight). SpecialWindler talk 22:10, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Then you may want to add a comment on WP James Bonds talk page to the "Bond girl articles: Requests to move" section. SpecialWindler talk 22:21, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New style[edit]

Hi, what do you think on displaying a new table style for our lists? A margin style.. like here for example - Jolie#Filmography. It looks way better and easier to follow the lists. If you agree, let me know and I will do this work. Regards, --ShahidTalk2me 22:38, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From Russia with Love (film)[edit]

I restored the Vehicles and Gadgets section and other bad edits he had made to Production.

I'm surprised you didn't revert more of his edits.

Basicly, he's a bully and the only way to to deal with a bully is to face him down.

The only way to deal with him is to exclude him from the James Bond Project, ie, he needs to be told his edits are no longer welcomed or required and if he persists in making edits to Project collaborations then those edits will be immediately reverted and he will be reported to Wikipedia and blocked.

It's the only way.

Cambodian clothing[edit]

Hi Ernst Stavro Blofeld. You are off to such a great start on the article Cambodian clothing that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... -- Jreferee (Talk) 01:39, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Film templates[edit]

I don't see what the problem is. Can you provide links to the templates you're having problems with? I can't find them. Oh, well I did see the minor revert war on the US films template, but it looks like a compromise has been reached on that. Anyway, I think Fred is the template guru. His contributions have improved upon what you started. He's helping. It's not like he's proposing them for deletion, which would be really harmful. What he's doing is trying to standardize the navigation templates across all of Wikipedia, not just films and not just yours. — WiseKwai 11:03, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bulletproof Monk, eh? Well, that's one I'd need to re-evaluate to really comment on. Right now, I'm all about Thai film at the moment. — WiseKwai 16:38, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's a great start indeed. I'll give it a little edit, see if I can find some refs for the middle section. Then I'll nominate it for DYK myself - well done Ernst.

I've finally managed to get one of the articles I've been working on into project space. I've been working on project Cambodia micro-stubs and this one has come a long way. From seven words here [4], which was incorrect spelling anyway, to the current article Neak Leung. Cheers, Paxse 14:55, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, yeah the photos are definitely the hard part - I spent two days of scouring Flikr for decent free images and got a grand total of 34 decent pics for wikipedia. I'll put them up shortly. It's amazing how few Flikr people tag their photos properly (or even know where the hell they are when they snap). I took a few snaps yesterday, including a couple of your requests ‎National Bank of Cambodia and ‎Phnom Pehn National Olympic Stadium. ‎The Royal University of Phnom Penh is already on the roll. There was a football game on at the Olympic stadium, so we might have something for the Cambodia national football team, the Cambodian League and for Khemara and Royal Cambodian Air Force who were playing at the time.
I'm going to see if the DYK bot picks up my new article or not - it's a test case. I think it triggers on 2000 characters plus references plus an image. Then I'll put up another one. Can I make a request? Leave me the provincial towns (those that are stubs or missing) and the Pursat Province geography articles. Some of these I've already started. I think I can write about 1000 words on Wat Bakan (once I finish translating stuff) and get it expanded for DYK front page purposes - but it will be late August/September before I can get up there and take some photos.
I've got another micro-stub-to-front-page-DYK coming up but no bloody images to be found. Damn Angkor Wat and bloody S-21 why don't tourists go anywhere else with their bloody cameras! Cheers, Paxse 16:56, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From Russia with Love (film)[edit]

Have you seen his latest comment ?

"People should realise that unnecessary section of irrelevant gadgets is trivia. It should be fused into the rest of the page"

Apparently James Bond's cars and Q's gadgets, which are so valued by Bond aficionados, are now "trivia" !

lol

He is out of control.

You're right, only way to deal with him - just see what he's done today.

From Russia with Love (film) Car[edit]

I've added a photo of a car similar to the one that Bond drives in the film.

Tovojolo 16:22, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll see if I can find a better photo.

Tovojolo 16:28, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering if you would vote for this film as the next James Bond Collaboration at Wikipedia:WikiProject James Bond/Collaboration of the fortnight.

The film is increasingly viewed as an epic, comic, satire of the whole James Bond genre.

Thanks

.. for rational debate over foolishness and herd behaviour - here Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of action films: 1970s. :) Paxse 12:49, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think that template looks bloody frightening! The thought of completing articles on 110 years of film scares the Living Daylights (hah!) out of me. But damn good work all the same. I think I've found another source of free Cambodia images too, I'll keep you posted. Paxse 13:19, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've nominated an article you worked on, Cambodian clothing, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the hook for the article at Template talk:Did you know#Articles created on July 27 where you can improve it if you see fit. Thanks, Paxse 14:10, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why thankee![edit]

Why Ernst how sweet, I don't think anyone has ever given me a Cham family before :) Unfortunately, you'd better tag it with {{db-noncom}} quick before you get a boilerplate warning message to mess up your talk page. Some Flikr photos are usable on Wikipedia - but most are not. And unfortunately, that one is "© All rights reserved" A very kind thought. Finding free-use Koh Kong images has been driving me mad and forced me to spend several days scouring the web already. I have found a few options, which will involve some creative caption writing. I'll upload them to commons now so I can lay them out. The handy Flikr search screen for Wikipedia-acceptable images (creative commons + commercial use ok + derivatives ok) is this one: http://www.flickr.com/search/?l=commderiv&q=James+Bond&m=text Cheers, Paxse 15:46, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are still a lot of great Flikr images we can use - and nobody is finding them and uploading them to commons. Just lazy I guess. Finding Cambodian images (not Angkor or S-21) is a bloody time consuming process - but I'm finding some other great images for Cambodian articles at the same time. In six months I'll have images in most Cambodian articles. Paxse 16:23, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

<reduce indent> Damn they are nice photos. But alas they are not Ok. They're both tagged with this license [5] and the killer is the Non Commercial part - Non Commercial means not Ok for WP. If you select Flikr from the commons upload screen you get this [6] which shows only two categories of Flikr photos that are permissible - CC-BY and CC-BY-SA - this limits things a hell of a lot. On the Flikr screen for your image here [7] at bottom left of the screen click on the highlighted link "Some rights reserved". This brings up the license and shows it is CC-BY-NC and therefore a Commons no-no. To search Flikr for only Wikipedia acceptable images use the advanced search screen http://www.flickr.com/search/advanced/ here and check all three boxes under the "Creative Commons" heading:

Only search within Creative Commons-licensed photos
Find content to use commercially
Find content to modify, adapt, or build upon

Remember the wonderful world of Khmer spelling and try a few different variants before giving up. Good luck! Paxse 17:46, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey[edit]

Hey again, I wanted to let ya know that the African wildlife series is doing great!!! I think we only have 11 countries to go. I've got a few done like South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, Tunisia, and a few others. Some of the articles need some work. I think we should get all of them done first, even if it's just stub articles, then once their all done some of us will have to go back to some of the more sloppy ones and make em pretty. Then we'll make them all main articles. Oh, I see that you don't have a Wikiproject Africa userbox, just To let ya know. I'm gonna stop annoying you, for now, and go do something.Mattkenn3 18:46, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow[edit]

That was one of the best looking articles I have ever seen. It's well writen, easy to understand and just looks good. That should be our article to base everything on. There is just one problem. We're some of the only ones working on it. There's about, say four people in total, working on the whole series. We need to round up a possy and get this thing done. We need at least 10 people working on this thing, that is if we ever want to get it done. We need to find a way to get lots of people in here to help us get things doneMattkenn3 23:26, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You Bugger![edit]

I went trolling through hundreds of photos of Angkor Wat and barbed wire until my eyes were bleeding from temple overload in order to find some nice images for Cambodian articles. That took two days. Then I spent another entire evening downloading them all and uploading to commons, writing descriptions, adding proper licenses and then making sure they were in the right categories or creating the correct category. All of this scut work went unseen, unnoticed and unthanked. It was not very fun.

The fun part of all the above, of course, comes when you add the images to the WP articles and suddenly make boring information more interesting to look at. That part only takes about half an hour but makes the whole tedious episode worthwhile. It's also the only part your are likely to get any credit for. And you've snuck in, while I was resting from my efforts, and put all the images up already - swine! <sigh> I'm giving up on bloody images, I was planning a small self congratulatory sub page "pictures I've added to Wikipedia" as a reward for my efforts. Paxse 03:02, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wildlife Articles[edit]

I was happy to do it, I stumbled across one while on vandal patrol, and it was so long, I was shocked to see "please add to this article" lol. so, I went through each one, and those that it was evident you'd already added species lists to, I deleted the "add" tag, and added (or left) the "prose" tag. I don't know how you added ALL that info! lol. And it is all formatted the same, really nice job. And yes, I agree with you, I hope those articles will eventually get cleaned up and be as helpful as Karnataka is. But you've laid the groundwork, the foundation, so that's a huge big help, to whoever knows the region well enough to convert it to prose. Cheers! ArielGold 11:25, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Drop me a line if you'd like any help with just copy-editing (spelling, punctuation, etc.) I'd be happy to go over that, and free you to move onto the next article's content. I'd offer to help with that, but I don't think I'm qualified to be able to put into prose the lists, I did take a look and compared it to completed articles (there are a couple of them in the Africa series) but I'm not sure I'd be able to do it justice. While I watch Animal Planet nearly every day, I don't know if that is enough to be able to do what is needed there, lol. But I'd be more than happy to help with just a review after your initial construction, just drop me a line. ArielGold 11:34, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that Pitcher plant article is wild, lol. I think personally I'd like to see the introduction cut down a little bit, ideally the intro should be a quick summary, leading into the rest of the article. And I'd wonder if the TOC isn't a bit too long, but it seems to have so much information, that doing a quick survey, I didn't see any way around that. My college Botany class was decades ago, lol, but boy, imagine if Wikipedia had been around then, how much easier it would have been! ArielGold 11:52, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh, yes, changing the view template does change things. I need to use the standard monobook one due to the RC/Vand tools I use. :) ArielGold 11:59, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for adding the picture to the article.--Charleenmerced Talk 13:47, 31 July 2007 (UTC) I try to add as much info about writers as I can (time wise). I also think it's important to be less biased in terms of which writers to add first and we should put more effort into it (myself included). Happy editing!--Charleenmerced Talk 13:47, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Africa Wildlife Articles[edit]

All of the African Wildlife articles are finished, so all we need to do is get them pretty. I think there is probably two things we need to do to make these articles the best they can be. We should have all infor mation right, to where even an expert on the area would understand and would agree to it. And number two is that we make it easy enough for a middle school student to grasp the concept and for them to be able to understand and read it. I'm gonna get to work on some of these articles and make them look good and be easy to understand.Mattkenn3 23:50, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
