Um, we have this thing called administrator recall here. It tends to come into play when large, powerful, occasionally awkward admins stomp on Tokyo too often. Honored Bishzilla. You august presence may be of great assistance. I know it's unusual to "protect" a small page like "Salt glaze pottery" - but a series of IP edits (from one editor or perhaps more), using various IP numbers, has been going on for over a year. The IP's apparently object to a small section of the article - but simply do not communicate. They use "tags" (which always rub me the wrong way) or simply delete the information. I revert and invite he/she/them to the talk page but no dice. I have asked he/she/them to sign in as an editor, but no response. My tone on the matter is increasingly curt -- and my perspective is becoming very inflexable. I have no real objections to changes on the page, but I am adverse to this type of "drive by" editing. As Zilla already has admin tools, is not necessary to do this. Click "protect" tab on page and Zilla can see at bottom of page "protection log". Easiest way for admins to do. I stand by my actions in bringing this case, Bish.. As I said to Irpen, this is like chapters of stuff that should be entitled "Stuff that Administrators should not freaking do". All the way through it.
WMC thinks that the block system is a progressive slot machine and runs the block on Giano from 3 to 24 hours to 48 hours in about an hours time. I agree that WMC himself should not be ramping up the blocks (especially considering the last block was incivility aimed at HIM, we're not supposed to block here).
MZMcBride then full protects the talk page, in an attempt to get the two sides to disengage. Again, at this point, no useful discussion was happening (it was Giano insulting various people (whether deserved or not), and WMC continuing to wind Giano up by increasing the time of the block.
At this point, hopefully things get resolved by being taken to AN/ANI, smacking WMC lightly on the wrist and saying "A block is not like an egg timer. You can't add time arbitrarily to it.. and you should've disengaged".
But Geogre came in, and lit the fuse for the explosion. Bish, everyone knows I'm a bit of a stickler for process at times. I'll freely admit that failing. But did anyone think Geogre coming in and unilaterally undoing another administrator's block without the other administrator's ok, or discussion and consensus on a community noticeboard, or even a "Hey, you're wrong, I'm undoing this" note to the other administrator's page is going to SOLVE anything? It is a provocative maneuver, one that Geogre has done in the past. The mop is not supposed to be used as a weapon in a fight, and Geogre was doing just that.
He says he overturned the block and changed the duration, and a few minutes later, Avraham then fixes to the original three hour block (down to 1 hour because of time spent). Maybe Geogre was distracted at the time. But it shouldn't take 5+ minutes to change the duration. Who knows, maybe he was arguing with someone off wiki about something at the time? He hasn't said anything about the situation. I can only go by what I see.
He also undid the page protection of a completely uninvolved administrator. Again, there was nothing to back him up. No ok from MZM. No discussion elsewhere. Not even a note to MZM that he had done so. Again, the mop is not for unilateral actions to protect your friends. He could've brought it up on AN/ANI at this point and covered his butt, but apparently, breaking just about every "Thou Shalt Not" for an administrator doesn't require that kind of comment.
Then of course, WMC Completes the Circle of Pain..er.. life by explicitly wheel-warring the block back in. Of course. Why not. We've done everything else completely by the numbers wrong, why not one more item.
I stand by my conviction that BOTH people's actions in this case are sanctionable because of their gross misjudgements and wheelwarring. One explicitly wheel wars, and the other if not explicitly (depends on your definition), at least sets things up for it with the log in, yell, "block overturned", unprotect, step away, no further response. If I had my way (yeah, I know, thank god I'm not, right? :)) this kind of misjudgement is de-adminnable.
I'm sorry you and Giano (and most probably Geogre) feel that way (Giano's biblical reference was choice, btw) but I'm not selling anyone out, I'm disgusted by both sides administrative actions in this issue.
I hope I've made it utterly clear that I do not support any further action on Giano and support the proposed injunction by Kirill (hey, at least it won't put any new names on Giano's Gmail list for him to argue with) but this adminstrative mess needs at the VERY least a strong trout slapping to both sides and told not to do it again. If all the administrators acted like these two did on this case, it'd be pure mayhem.

It was with some suprise that the speedy happened that I responded to like that - it was not in any way intended to be rude - I have no case as I am not interested in pursuing this any further, and admins are the last thing on my mind for a start - this is simply a afterthought on what I will not try in future - if there was a hint of warning I would not have in the slightest thought to have written anything like that - my apologies unreservedly, I would have thought if you are in speedy land that is polite to what you must get most of the time anyways.
There are indonesian editors with limited english who havent the faintest of what you just did - I didnt re-recreate the article - If you had the time to check - I was just trying to coach an indonesian editor the issues of WP:N and WP:RS and in the middle of that process of doing exactly that with a source that can ascertain an inherent notabilty - that you zap it - I know that a number speedy deletes have occurred recently around the indonesian idol characters - and for very good reason - the average Indonesian editor hasnt the faintest about how to ascertain WP:V or WP:RS from a WP:DUCK if they had it in their hands in front of them.

Wikivoices (formally NotTheWikipediaWeekly) would be interested in making several podcasts with candidates running in the 2008 English Wikipedia Arbitration Committee election. Given the high number of candidates likely to be signing up during the nomination stage (likely to be around 45) it will be a very busy 2 weeks. These shows typically last about one and a half hours to record, taking into account setup time, and are recorded using the free, downloadable programme, Skype. The programme can be used on Windows, Mac OS and Linux operating systems and is also available on some mobile platforms. If any candidates have problems with installing or running the program please contact either myself at my talk page or by email
There will be 2 formats being run over the next 2 weeks. The first will be general discussion with a small number candidates at a time with several experienced hosts from Wikivoices. Each candidate will be given 2-3 minutes to introduce themselves then the main body of the cast will begin. The topics discussed will vary in each recording to ensure fairness however the atmosphere will be generally free flowing. These will be running throughout the two weeks starting tomorrow. Specific signup times can be found here at our meta page.
The second format will be based on a similar style to election debates. Questions will be suggested here by the community. A selection of these will then be put to a panel of larger panel candidates with short and concise 1-2 minute responses. It is recommended that candidates attend both formats of casts and we will try to be as flexible as possible. We are looking for the greatest participation but also for shows with enough members to keep it interesting but not too many that it causes bandwidth and general running issues. On a more positive note, though, I am glad to see that through Bishzilla, the underlying user appears to be having some fun around Wikipedia again. Hi, Chaser. I guess it's not clear, in that case. The way it's formulated, "The Wikipedia community generally frowns upon simulating the MediaWiki interface, and it should be avoided except when necessary for testing purposes", is a compromise after a hot debate on the matter some time ago. Some people wanted the guideline to say that SMIs, such as joke message bars, are verboten, and anybody can remove them; the other faction was as strongly against such encroachment on the traditional Wikipedia "wide latitude to users to manage their user space as they see fit" (quoting the guideline text from a little higher up). The text finally agreed on does not say "feel free to remove them", it says the "community generally frowns upon" them. Not everybody frowns; and those who do, get to go ahead and frown, not to use brute force in the matter. "Should be avoided" is not the same as "is not allowed"; it's simply more frowning. When the matter was last made a big issue of, I argued against forcible removal, because I feel that users should not be overridden in the management of their userspace for such trivial reasons as "the joke isn't funny" (who gets to decide that, seriously?). By contrast: some users have removed content on NWA.Rep's userpage that they considered sexist or aggressively nationalist; those are non-trivial matters, and I have not restored any of it. But the New Message bar is trivial; it's really not necessary to humiliate the user further over such a thing. I'm restoring it. Promising is a very simplistic viewpoint! I need a clear desk and a more appropriate venue before I can promise anything. Say around Easter? It requires full comprehensive details of a matter taking place during the course of a year, from a very wide range of on- and off-site venues. It also has to fit round my work and others' work, my real life, and other historic matters, and to coincide with a family season, a new arbcom season and the start of the working year. Some people, indeed, might lazily dash off a 3 line note by way of reply to your recklessly short and simple question. That's not my way ! Now I will go check various large archives, with review item by item where a search cannot be specified, to ensure accuracy, and to ensure the balancing of that with a few overriding issues, if applicable, such as privacy of users, WMF requirements, ability to cite emails and getting permission if needed, and so on. In this case since I'm being asked about someone else's actions, that were discussed by others, and in others' emails, I'd like to be sure I've done that task carefully, so I need a few weeks to provide an unabridged statement. One of the things that tend to distinguish policies from guidelines is that guidelines will have exceptions more often because some issues only concern style or convention, rather than having concrete reasons why something should be done in a particular way. We censure signatures that are unreadable (for obvious reasons), but merely discourage those that fall outside our norms in other ways. A really huge signature would be rather disruptive in a threaded discussion, but the mighty Zilla's sig doesn't cause that sort of offence (otherwise someone would have made that exact complaint) and my recommendation would be to stop worrying about harmless excursions beyond the usual scope of guidelines unless there is a clear reason such as accessibility. Yes, but under that box is a box saying that some sections are policies (like WP:SIGAPP, where it says "Avoid markup such as <big> and <span style="font-size: 200%;">(or more) tags (which enlarge text); this is likely to disrupt the way that surrounding text displays.") And I hate to make a big deal of small things, but there is a reason for the policy (it keeps things neat, and since it's a policy, apparently I'm not the only person that likes things neat) and this doesn't seem like a case where an exception would be made, but I guess I'm a minority on this talk page. it's probably best to take the advice as a whole and try to understand why that guidance is given. The <big>...</big> tag will be interpreted by most browsers as making the font size 125% of its previous value, a long way short of the 200% that is quoted next to it. The real advice is actually in the following sentence "this is likely to disrupt the way that surrounding text displays" which is what I already suggested. If you find that Zilla's sig significantly disrupts the surrounding text displays, then I can appreciate your concern. On the other hand, neither I nor anyone else that I've noticed so far have actually experienced that problem with her sig, which is why I still maintain that it's more important to observe our policies and guidelines according to their spirit and intent, rather than attempting to observe them to the letter. I don’t mind your comments in the candidate guide -- I've never for a moment expected to be elected, after all -- but I do wonder if I simply haven't made myself clear. My objection in the "bill of attainder" comments was, specifically, that we ought to have uniform rules and expectations -- that Valuable People should not be exempted from requirements with which Common Editors are required to comply. Now, I understand that this principle may sometimes be inconvenient, but that doesn't seem to be your objection.
With respect to passive-aggressive commentary, I'm the fellow who called ArbCom’s decision Infamous, Careless, Thoughtless, etc. If anything I’ve said about ArbCom is passive, I assure you that was not my intention, and indeed that it was the last thing on my mind. Quite clear, thank you. Have appreciation of little candidate's stand re Gamergate, and off-wiki work. But direct aggression in one place not preclude passive aggression in other. Thus seems candidate is aggressive towards arbcom (fine), passive aggressive and whiny re some other users (not so fine). Regret — have over years developed severe allergy against requests for "formal instruction" whether Common Editors may also take liberties bla bla. (Did user think rhetoric was original? No. Clichéd. Whiny.) And word "unblockable". And "new nobility". They make 'shonen come out in a rash. Not nice to see! As for suggestion "Baron Eric Corbett", is admittedly new — however not strikingly witty. Hello. When I transclude your voter guide (and the others) into a single page (to facilitate reading and comparisons), the resulting page becomes a member of the [[Category:Wikipedia Arbitration Committee Elections 2015 voter guides]].

Hi Bishzilla. Now it's over, while we're waiting for the results I can now expand on some of the thoughts I expressed during the campaign. Whether you supported or opposed my candidacy is of course entirely up to you - important is that you participated in the process. I would just like to mention two concerns of yours: 1) I have no idea what is meant by 'a hanging judge platform'. However, it doesn't sound like a very positive expression, and I'm sure that a proper investigation would reveal that my work as an editor and admin has always been honest and equitable and never extreme.. 2) If one looks very closely, one will see that the questioners got the answers they deserve; there is no need to kowtow to them to get their vote. Whether or not I am offered a seat on the Committee is immaterial - I'm not sure I ever wanted to stand in the first place. If I am elected, I will concern myself with the day-to-day work of the Committee. If not, I will seek to bring about reforms of the electoral process, mainly focusing on the need for questions and voter guides to be at least objective and kept free of gender related and other socio-political barnstorming. ...is Happysquirrel(talk·contribs·count·logs), a relatively new editor that works hard at improving the encyclopedia experience for all. She deserves a few messages of appreciation. Dearest Bishzilla and all your monster friends, I have no idea if anybody pays attention to what happens at the WER pages anymore. For years I have been challenging members of that project to Drop by his/her talk page and give him/her a pat on the back and let him/her know he/she is supported. And for years the response has been miserable. O, every now and then an editor will get nominated that has a fan club and some 5 or 6 editors will drop in to say congrats. But most of the time I have to send out specific requests to specific editors or no one but me shows up. Don't get me wrong. I very much enjoy giving out the awards and enjoy the cheerful responses that I get from most awardees. But can you imagine the pleasure that we as fellow editors give if every week 3 dozen or more editors said, "Well done. Thank you". Happysquirrel said this today after only two editors thanked her:

As someone who works mostly with new articles and new editors, I find myself often on the margins of the community, helping people inwards, but never going in completely myself.
