Hi Birdman234

The image you added to the above article was a bit big and was messing up the format and layout of the article, so I resized it and moved it to the right hand side of the article.

You also seem to have added some <gallery> </gallery> tags near the end of the article as a test of something so I've removed these. If they were there for a reason, then sorry for removing them and you can restore them using the revert options.

I have also added a question to the image's talk page in relation to the copy right status of the image and the licence used - you may want to check this out and respond - and posted a note on the Florida ride talk page pointing to the question on the image page as well.

Mummy Photo[edit]

Hi Birdman234, thanks for the message on my talk page and welcome to Wikipedia. If I remember correctly the image was a copy of the picture that you can get when you go on the ride. There were two issues:

The first issue is the key one and is probably what got it deleted. The image itself, taken by Universal, is more than likely copyrighted by them and it may not be permissible to reproduce it here - this is where a fair use argument comes in. I'm not an expert on this but there has been, or was til a few months ago, a lot of debate about fair use images. Essentially, if you tag something as fair use, what you are saying is that it is acceptable under the fair use clauses in copyright law (at least it exists as far as I know in U.S. copyright law, and also in Ireland, where I'm from) to use the image for a particular purpose and that no free alternative exists. Have a look here

At first I thought that you probably wouldn't get away with this but having thought about it again, I know that the Splash Mountain article has a similar image and that seems to have been left along although the same question seems to have been asked about licencing. So it may be that it was just the incorrect tag that was the problem.

The second issue was the particular licence tag you used - you selected the self made licence which would normally be used for photos you've taken yourself that you're uploading. In this case, the photo was a reproduction of someone else's work, in this case Universal's so self made wasn't correct and something like the fair use licence would have been more correct.

What I would suggest is this:

  • Upload the image again with a new name, and this time select the fair use licence from the list.
  • You will need to provide a fair use rationale along the lines of it being publicity material, or a sort, that cannot be sourced elsewhere or something like that - essentially, why it should be okay to include a picture that is more than likely copyrighted by Universal in Wikipedia
  • On the new image's talk page add in a few lines saying that you are uploading this to add it to the Mummy article and that you believe it qualifies for fair use. Add the talk page to your watchlist so you'll know if someone replies (click the watch link at the top).
  • Add the new image to the Mummy article but remember to keep it small along the lines of the changes i made last time - let me know if you need a hand with this, just leave a note on my talk page.
  • On the Mummy article talk page add in something similar again, saying why you're putting it in and maybe saying that you're not sure about the licencing / copyright issues and if anyone has any thoughts to leave a reply. Add both the Mummy article itself and its talk page to your watchlist and you'll know if someone replies or changes anything.

sorry if all of the above is a bit longwinded but i'm never any good at tracking down the different articles in wikipedia that describe all this properly - hopefully this will give you a steer in the right direction.

One more thing - make sure you sign all your posts on talk pages etc. with your username by putting four tilde's like this ~~~~ at the end so that it appears like this Rmkf1982 Talk 21:16, 17 April 2007 (UTC) and then it's easy to see who to reply to.[reply]

Hope this helps - you know where to find me if you've any other questions.
