EU[edit]

The main problem I have with the EU are issues of sovereignty, and how supranationalism may affect national democracies. As Václav Klaus said, "The enemies of free societies today are those who want to burden us down again with layer upon layer of regulations. We had that in communist times. But now if you look at all the new rules and regulations of EU membership, layered bureaucracy is staging a comeback." Bayerischermann 23:50, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree that there is too much bureaucracy. I however think that the EU has achieved very good things, too. It influenced many of its members to adopt free democracic constitutions without death penalty and with freedom of the press. It ensured a high standard of living on a continent that was previously very diverse in economic development. I am confident the same will happen with the newly joined countries as well as Romania, Bulgaria, and Croatia, once they join. I also believe that in the long run Norway and Switzerland will join. Not so sure about Serbia and Turkey. ROGNNTUDJUU! 00:21, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
