Damn, dude![edit]

I stopped by to say Thanks for taking care of Caillou for me--after reading THAT, though, I just want to say "Damn, go lay down or something!!" Seriously, that's just scary...I hope you're getting well and that you have a good holiday (although from what I understand from my friends/family who have quit smoking, having a good ANYTHING is highly unlikely when you're having a nic-fit. And good luck with that, as well!) Take care...GJC 16:10, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I was more saddened by what I imagine his life to be rather than his comment. I hope it was only a bad day that I inadvertently contributed to rather than a life issue. Again my best to you and your partner. ttonyb1 (talk) 05:19, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

...and to your son. 8-) ttonyb1 (talk) 05:20, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I do not appreciate this comment, which I find personally disparaging. What you "imagine my life to be" is irrelevant and that you are "saddened" by your irrelevant musing is insulting. I admit that I did react with irritation to your actions on the Cord lock page. In future, Ttonyb1, take note of whether the page is under current edit, as it was when you tagged it for a quick delete. The criteria for speedy deletion (WP:SPEEDY) explicitly states that Contributors sometimes create articles over several edits, so try to avoid deleting a page too soon after its creation if it appears incomplete. Also, follow the rules and guidelines, as perWP:DELPRO, which include inserting a "good comment in the reason for deletion field". Your comment ("Marked for Speedy Deletion"), does not meet this guideline in any way at all. Since you seem to spend a lot of time tagging articles for deletion, it may be a good idea to actually read the policies in relation to deletion tagging. ► RATEL ◄ 09:52, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Points taken and my apologies for any distress I may have caused anyone. In addition, I have lined out the offending comment. ttonyb1 (talk) 20:06, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Translations[edit]

Thor, I'm an ex-Magdalene man myself! Thanks for the tip; it will be especially useful on longer articles that need several goes. I also copy text into Word, which means I can use e.g. find/replace to save a lot of time where words are repeatedly used.Bermicourt (talk) 11:12, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Trout[edit]

Thanks for the whack with a fish - I sort-of deserve it. Given that we're dealing with a single disruptive editor who's ignoring what looks to be a consensus it is fairly normal practice for editors representing the consensus view to spread the reverts to demonstrate that its not a one-on-one dispute though. Re: FlaggedRevs trial[edit]

Hi Thor,

Ah no, I wasn't on freenode when that was discussed, just saw it implemented from a distance. It's only logical that AR's get full rights, we've always been relaxed about granting rights at en.wikinews, imho. I originally came from here and spent quite some time on wikinews but now have shifted my attention once again.

Hello, I noticed that you have recently created an alternate account, User:Jimbo Wales, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's alternate account policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your reasons for creating an additional account.

I know you aren't Jimbo Wales

I've had previous experience with this user. All of his sockpuppets have a variation on Teletubbies or a Disney movie in the title and his target articles are generally the same, e.g., Teletubbies and Disney movies. I left the talk page open in case of an error on my part, in which case I can immediately unblock the account. He sometimes won't answer once he's caught and as of now, he still hasn't. You might want to check withUser:Collectonian as well. She does a lot of editing on animation and has even more experience than I do with Bambifan. Hi Iceflow, I just read your statements at Jimbo's talk page. Mass article creation[edit]

I'm afraid you are mistaken. I create several articles at the same time in multiple tabs, and save page when I have finished doing so. No worries. I leave accessible at least five articles at any one time if I have several articles on my to-do list- which currently consists of over 1000 articles. Not that I keep count, of course! Bobo. 04:33, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Doppelgänger accounts[edit]

Hi, I just saw your message. The relevent policy is here: Wikipedia:Sock puppetry#Doppelgänger accounts. Basically, they are not intended for use. It's allowed to create accounts with names very similar to your own for the sole purpose of preventing others from using them in a confusing way, but they are not to be used for editing. Likewise, if someone else registers an account confusingly similar to your own, you can ask for it to be blocked. Regarding the broader question of when it's acceptable to use undisclosed alternate accounts, that is subject to change. At the moment such accounts are permitted so long as they are not abused.   Will Beback  talk  22:31, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reply[edit]

I never said I disliked Wikipedia itself. In fact, I love reading pages and articles here (history, current events, sports, TV, etc). Wikipedia can really be a good resource. What I strongly dislike is the amount of flagrant bias that I can see so clearly on the wiki. I definitely do not think it's right to have a biased wiki that receives millions of views by millions of people. It's wrong to present falsified and biased information. I'm definitely not claiming that all of Wikipedia and its articles are biased, but many political/religious articles have bias written all over them. All I can try to do is raise awareness and try to amend the bias, hopefully leading to a more neutral Wikipedia. :) -- CTS Talk   Contribs 22:57, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problem at all. :) I agree that my userpage might come off as a bit narrow-minded (and that is something I will modify), but I'm just trying to make a point is all. The majority of Wikipedia isn't biased, but sometimes when it comes down to the controversial topics (evolution, religion, politics, etc.) viewpoints are slanted heavily towards one side. -- CTS Talk   Contribs 23:12, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GoogleTrans gadget[edit]

Hi there,

Thanks very much for importing my GoogleTrans gadget over to the nlwiki. I hope you find it useful. I myself do use it to pick up that word or two in a sentence I don't know in French (and more in Spanish). There is an analogue web page that does the same thing for any webpage you surf to from that page:

http://www.securecottage.com/cgi-bin/reference.cgi

This above URL will achieve the same effect on most Dutch websites you want that little bit of help translating.

Are y0u going to make the code a gadget on nlwiki. I don't know Dutch but I couldn't see it being in the Dutch Gadget list. Anyway thanks for the interest, and positive feedback. I do appreciate it.

Endo999 (talk) 20:11, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well Thank You Thor,

It was very nice of you to put up GoogleTrans as a gadget on the nlwiki. You were so quick at doing it too. It took around 10 months for me to get the GoogleTrans onto the enwiki. Thanks once again. As I believe you are Scandinavian, Google also does all the Scandinavian languages, if you are active on those wikis too.

The URL I gave you above will do the same thing to just about any website. The URL gets a website for you and changes all links in that website to point to itself. It injects the javascript into the website, so the effect is to have GoogleTrans on any website, if you link to the website from the Reference Portal.

Endo999 (talk) 03:23, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's great work Thor,

I hope it is useful to you and others. I will definitely keep you informed on any updates and changes. I have some code that will do the effect on input fields and textareas, but it doesn't work on Firefox 3.5 (although it does work on Firefox 3.0). So this upgrade is on hold until I FireFox 3.5 recognises the mousemove event inside an input field.

Admin Coaching[edit]

Hi, I was doing a bit of tidying up at Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Requests for Coaching, and I saw that your status was "Master of Puppets".

Was coaching ever sorted out? If so, could you please ask MoP to add you to the list at Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Status and remove your entry at the Requests page?

If it fell through, and you are still interested in being coached, could you remove the "Master of Puppets" from the entry?

If, on the other hand, you are no longer interested in being coached, perhaps you would consider removing your request from the list?

Thanks for uploading File:Scnsht tailspin 158 01.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Kit Cloudkicker merge[edit]

Hi there. I received a message from User:Peter Symonds regarding your intention to merge the Kit Cloudkicker article into the list. As I commented on the talk page, we can merge all information from the article into the list since it is really short. I can change the format of the list in order to give individual sections to each character, and merge the contents of the Kit Cloudkicker article into a particular section. Thoughts? --Lo/d Þpµth 19:48, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lord Opeth. That sounds fine, frankly. I'm happy with the way the list is laid out actually, and It'd be good to get the work done. I apologise for reverting, i actually saved the original article from an afd, and i was a bit cross that it was turned into a redirect! But after seeing what you're doing, i figured i was being an asshole :)
The only thing i'd be grateful if you could do, is keep the image i Ul'd, since i think it'd be nice on the list to just have some visual reference to the individual characters, even if it's only a thumbnail. I have shedloads of images of talespin episodes here, so if you want some uploading, i can do that for you. Thanks again, best wishes. Came to me in a fit of IRC madness, Rlevse. We had a guy in #wikipedia-en called MooingLemur, and we all started coming up with weird animal names to take the mick... I just happened to pick BarkingFish and it sorta stuck. Now when people tell me fish don't bark, I just say "have you never heard of a Dogfish?" :) That's really all there is to it. I know, I'm a crat and I do renames ;-) But I have so many edits it'd probably crash during the rename.RlevseTalk 02:22, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And what would happen if it did? Is there anyone you can take advice from? Maybe the Wikitechs on IRC? #wikimedia-tech - surely someone must know if you can do it. Seems improbable that you'd kill the wiki, probably create one hell of a job queue, but I'd say that'd be about it... BarkingFishTalk to me | My contributions 02:30, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes renames on users with over 5000 edits never finish all the edit renames. It won't kill the wiki but some edits will never pick up the new name. Sometimes such renames work and sometimes they don't. RlevseTalk 09:48, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Foreign language articles[edit]

Should not be simply tagged as test pages for deletion. It occasionally does happen that such articles are on a suitable topic and just are not in English. In the case of the article whose tag who changed it was an article in Serbian that turned out to be an attack page accusing someone of being a drunk, so it was actually deleted for that. Some helpful tools when dealing with foreign language articles are this language identifier[5] and Google's translation service [6] which can usually help you understand the basic idea of an foreign language article even if the actual translation is not so great. Speedy deletion nomination of Damien Walters declined[edit]

Hello, BarkingFish. I have declined your nomination of Damien Walters for speedy deletion because I have found that the subject of the article indeed meets the "significance or importance" requirement to be ineligible forA7 deletion. In fact, from sources I found, it seems this person meets WP:ATHLETE fairly well. I understand your tagging of the article, as it stood with only the line "coolest person in the world", and I might have done the same, but the interlanguage links gave me pause. From the French article, I was able to decipher that the subject was notable. Just a friendly reminder interlanguage links in new articles should always be checked out, and Google searching never hurts. Cheers, Intelligentsium 00:48, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
