Heya, did you write this yourself? It looks like it's copied from somewhere, which would make it a copyright violation (which would be bad for wikipedia). --W(t) 17:22, 2005 Jun 21 (UTC)

Of course I wrote it myself. I am a doctoral candidate in ecclesiastical history. Contributions to my original discussion under Papal Slippers were supplied by friends of mine.

I added this article to correct the "bad for Wkipedia" erroneous information provided uner "Papal slippers" and the comment in the benedict XVI/Raztinger article about the pope restoring the papal slippers. Can you eliminate these comments? Can You help me add the photo that I have provided of Pius VII (+1823) shoes under the commons? its called Papal Shoes.jpg.

I'd be happy to help out with any problems you may be having, but first could you tell me the source of the article you added to wikipedia? --W(t) 17:30, 2005 Jun 21 (UTC)
Ok, wonderful, thanks. I've added the image you uploaded to the article, you'll have to tweak the caption yourself. You shouldn't create duplicate articles if you disagree with the content of the first article though, this leads to fragmentation and just makes it harder to find correct information. If you find inaccuracies in an article just edit them, or if you feel they may be controversial, discuss them on the talk page first. If you feel the discussion needs a few more people to look over it, you can always post a request to Wikipedia:Requests for comment.
I've posted the standard welcome message below, there are some useful links in there for people new to wikipedia, you might like to browse through them. --W(t) 17:41, 2005 Jun 21 (UTC)

Welcome!

Hello, Athanasius McVay, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!

Thank You very much for adding the photograph. In confidence, this photo is the property of my friend Cavaliere Maurizio Bettoja, who has given permission for it to be used by myself for Wikipedia. Cav. Bettoja is a friend of Count Gustavo di Gropello.

Please do not combine papal slippers with papal shoes, but link them together. Also, the papal slippers article should be changed and the photo showing the papal liturgical sandals should be removed. I can search for a photo of the papal slippers and could also write seperate pieces for papal slippers and papal liturgical sandals. Let me know.

Ah, that's going to be a problem. Could you ask him to licence it under the GFDL? Wikipedia doesn't accept images that may only be used by Wikipedia anymore, as the point of wikipedia is to make a freely distributable encyclopædia, which isn't possible if only the wikipedia organisation itsself is allowed to use the photo. --W(t) 17:51, 2005 Jun 21 (UTC)

he intends for the photo to be used by Wikipedia and by anyone else.

Ah, that's wonderful. Could you tag the image with the appropriate licencing information? See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for information on how to do that. --W(t) 18:00, 2005 Jun 21 (UTC)

It's very complicated. I won't have time to read all of that. I will try but it looks very complex. A

Done.

I'm not really well-versed in the whole papal footwear thing, so I'm leaving the merging thing to someone else. There's a note on the appropriate pages and it's on the list of articles that should be merged, I'm sure someone will do it soon enough. --W(t) 23:00, 2005 Jun 21 (UTC)
