I see you reverted my conversion of GD 66 b into a redirect. Please note that the object GD 66 b is a non-existent planet, as detailed in the article GD 66, which gives the history of the detection and the reasons why there is no evidence that this system hosts a planet. As such it makes no sense to have an article giving all the information as though this were a real object, it is misleading to readers who might come across it. (Certainly one of the researchers who is involved in this is rather amused that Wikipedia rushed to get an article about this planet up [1]) I'd nominate it for deletion but as an anonymous user this is impossible for me. 77.56.99.23 (talk) 20:38, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Alan Clark

Hi Anupam. First, congratulations on your dilligence in making extensive contributions to Wikipedia. Second, Alan Clark's infidelities were common knowledge in the UK during his lifetime, and interviewers sometimes pressed him on this matter. (There is a reference to his relationships with the Harknesses elsewhere in the article, and there are brief references to other such relationships in the diaries.) He never attempted to deny what he did. This aspect of his life is one of the things for which he is best remembered; I think that to make mention of his infidelities - especially after his death - comes well within the realm of what is accepted as fair comment within the North American and UK media.

In the strict legal sense, I don't think it's possible to defame the dead. It would be hard to write a meaningful account of the lives of Edward VII or the first Duke of Wellington without making a passing mention of their mistresses, and I think the same is true of Clark. There was no original research done, there was no synthesis of information, there was simply the presentation of a claim, several sources which support that claim, and several additional sources for good measure. Reads like an advertisement??? Watchmen Drum and Bugle Corps gives the bare-bones facts of a newborn organization. There is no attempt to sell anything, only to convey a bit of knowledge about the last of the currently active junior drum and bugle corps in North America to have an article in the Wikipedia. Yes, there may be issues with the article, but it is only a stub which still contains more accurate information than many new articles... As the organization ages and progresses, more information will be available to be added, and more references will be cited.

I had hardly posted this article and was searching for the appropriate stub tags, when you jumped in and tagged it for multiple offenses to your ideas of what is right and proper for inclusion in Wikipedia. I have now calmed down enough to refrain from throwing epithets in your direction, but come on... WikiProject Drum Corps was once a flourishing activity on Wikipedia, yet when people posted new articles only to have them almost instantly tagged and deleted for "lack of notability" and sundry other causes, several dozen editors became disenchanted departed Wikipedia in disgust. You, like several other are under the mistaken impression that Drum Corps International and the organizations that compete under its umbrella are one and the same. This is not now nor has never been the case, much as the teams within any athletic conference or sports league are independent from each other. Each drum corps is an independent organization, except for the four that sponsor more than one corps. Yes, I referred to the corps' webpage and to its Facebook page, but also to DCI, a separate entity, negating your argument that I have used only one source. I had fully expected to use an additional, independent source, but the articles I expected to see with mention of the corps have not yet been published and will be referenced as soon as available.GWFrog (talk) 07:27, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

Spotlight - Simplified article translation

Wikiproject Medicine started translating simplified articles in February 2014. We now have 45 simplified articles ready for translation, of which the first on African trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness has been translated into 46 out of ~100 languages. This list does not include the 33 additional articles that are available in both full and simple versions.

Our goal is to eventually translate 1,000 simplified articles. This includes:

• WHO's list of Essential Medicines[5]
• Neglected tropical diseases[6]
• Key diseases for medical subspecialties like: oncology, emergency medicine (list), anatomy, internal medicine, surgery, etc.

We are looking for subject area leads to both create articles and recruit further editors. We need people with basic medical knowledge who are willing to help out. This includes to write, translate and especially integrate medical articles.

I've (CFCF) taken on the role of community organizer for this project, and will be working with this until December. The goals and timeline can be found here, and are focused on getting the project on a firm footing and to enable me to work near full-time over the summer, and part-time during the rest of the year. Wikimania 2014

For those going to London in a month's time (or those already nearby) there will be at least one event for all medical editors, on Thursday August 7th. See the event page, which also summarizes medicine-related presentations in the main conference. Please pass the word on to your local medical editors.

Integration progress

There has previously been some resistance against translation into certain languages with strong Wikipedia presence, such as Dutch, Polish, and Swedish.
What was found is that thre is hardly any negative opinion about the the project itself; and any such critique has focused on the ways that articles have being integrated. For an article to be usefully translated into a target-Wiki it needs to be properly Wiki-linked, carry proper citations and use the formatting of the chosen target language as well as being properly proof-read. Certain large Wikis such as the Polish and Dutch Wikis have strong traditions of medical content, with their own editorial system, own templates and different ideas about what constitutes a good medical article. For example, there are not MEDRS (Polish,German,Romanian,Persian) guidelines present on other Wikis, and some Wikis have a stronger background of country-specific content.

• Swedish
  Translation into Swedish has been difficult in part because of the amount of free, high quality sources out there already: patient info, for professionals. The same can be said for English, but has really given us all the more reason to try and create an unbiased and free encyclopedia of medical content. We want Wikipedia to act as an alternative to commercial sources, and preferably a really good one at that.
  Through extensive collaborative work and by respecting links and Sweden specific content the last unintegrated Swedish translation went live in May.
• Dutch
  Dutch translation carries with it special difficulties, in part due to the premises in which the Dutch Wikipedia is built upon. There is great respect for what previous editors have created, and deleting or replacing old content can be frowned upon. In spite of this there are success stories: Anafylaxie.
• Polish
  Translation and integration into Polish also comes with its own unique set of challenges. The Polish Wikipedia has long been independent and works very hard to create high quality contentfor Polish audience. Previous translation trouble has lead to use of unique templates with unique formatting, not least among citations. Add to this that the Polish Wikipedia does not allow template redirects and a large body of work is required for each article.

• Arabic
  The Arabic Wikipedia community has been informed of the efforts to integrate content through both the general talk-page as well as through one of the major Arabic Wikipedia facebook-groups: مجتمع ويكيبيديا العربي, something that has been heralded with great enthusiasm.

Integration guides

Integration is the next step after any translation. Despite this it is by no means trivial, and it comes with its own hardships and challenges. Previously each new integrator has needed to dive into the fray with little help from previous integrations. Therefore we are creating guides for specific Wikis that make integration simple and straightforward, with guides for specific languages, and for integrating on small Wikis.

I make bold to submit something to your attention with no intention to start a discussion about it. If you disagree and even post a reply, I may think it best not to dispute what you say, and simply to accept the fact of your disagreement. You have every right to continue to defend the statements you are insisting on inserting in the Christmastide article. I will correct them only gradually, to enable you to do so. But I ask you here quietly to just consider for yourself the reliability of one sample of the books on which you base statements you are insisting on having in Wikipedia.

A lunar calendar of the kind used by the ancient Greeks, like that still used by Jews, normally has 12 lunar months, but adds every few years an intercalary lunar month, making that year a 13-month year. In such a calendar it is nonsense to speak of a particular date as that fixed for the solstice: only after 19 years will the solstice return to approximately the same day of the same lunar month. Yet in the long quotation that you give, that book states: This arrangement became an administrative problem for the Roman Empire as it tried to coordinate the solar Julian calendar with the lunar calendars of its provinces in the east. While the Romans could roughly match the months in the two systems, the four cardinal points of the solar year--the two equinoxes and solstices--still fell on different dates. Even ignoring the Roman solar calendar, they fell in any lunar calendar on a different date each year from the year before, and the year after, and the year after that again! What stable lunar calendar date existed for comparison with that in the Roman solar calendar? It goes on: By the time of the first century, the calendar date of the winter solstice in Egypt and Palestine was eleven to twelve days later than the date in Rome. For one thing, Palestine had a lunar calendar and Egypt a very different solar calendar. An "Egypt and Palestine" date is nonsense. As far back as the time of Herodotus, the Greeks explicitly recognized the much greater accuracy of the Egyptian calendar for indicating the length of the real year. In fact the Greek calendar made only a very rough approximation to the length of the real year and for that reason had to be adjusted by adding a whole month every few years, to bring it a bit closer to the length of the real year. Both Greeks and Egyptians knew how to calculate the date on their respective calendars when the solstice was to occur, just as we can calculate the date on our calendar when the solstice will occur. You do know, of course, that in our calendar the December solstice, for instance, is sometimes on 21 December as in 2014 and sometimes on 22 December as in 2015. (I refer to UTC/GMT, of course. In India, it will already be 22 December even this year at the moment of the solstice.) Since the date of the solstice isn't quite fixed even on our solar calendar, what is this nonsense about a fixed date for it on a lunar calendar, on which it will appear not only on different days of the month but even in different lunar months in successive years? The book goes on: As a result the Incarnation came to be celebrated on different days in different parts of the Empire. The Incarnation, you surely know, is celebrated in March. I presume the writer meant, not the Incarnation, but the Birth of Jesus, which is celebrated in December, close to the date of the December solstice, a practice that began in the West and was only later accepted in the East. The imaginative The Western Church, in its desire to be universal, eventually took them both--one became Christmas, one Epiphany--with a resulting twelve days in between needs no comment except to say it is imaginative. Over time this hiatus became invested with specific Christian meaning. The Church gradually filled these days with saints, some connected to the birth narratives in Gospels (Holy Innocents' Day, December 28, in honor of the infants slaughtered by Herod; St. John the Evangelist, "the Beloved," December 27; St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr, December 26; the Holy Family, December 31; the Virgin Mary, January 1). So, according to this book, what it declares to be a hiatus was filled only in the second half of the 20th century (Feast of the Holy Family, which is celebrated on 31 December only if that day is a Sunday)! And it makes this statement in relation to a Council of Tours held 14 centuries earlier! That council found no 12-day "hiatus" there (as it found no "hiatus" in the whole month of August, even for a single day), except perhaps for 1–3 January, since each day of 25-31 December and 4-6 January was already the feast of a saint, with 1-3 January devoted by earlier decisions (the "Fathers") to be days of penance, and declared by the Council of Tours itself to be days of fasting for monks. Language-population update project

Hi. The 18th edition of Ethnologue just came out, and if we divide up our language articles among us, it won't take long to update them. I would appreciate it if you could help out, even if it's just a few articles (5,000 articles is a lot for just me), but I won't be insulted if you delete this request.

A largely complete list of articles to be updated is at Category:Language articles citing Ethnologue 17. The priority articles are in Category:Language articles with old Ethnologue 17 speaker data. These are the 10% that have population figures at least 25 years old.

Probably 90% of the time, Ethnologue has not changed their figures between the 17th and 18th editions, so all we need to do is change "e17" to "e18" in the reference (ref) field of the language info box. That will change the citation for the artcle to the current edition. Please put the data in the proper fields, or the info box will flag it as needing editorial review. The other relevant fields are "speakers" (the number of native speakers in all countries), "date" (the date of the reference or census that Ethnologue uses, not the date of Ethnologue!), and sometimes "speakers2". Our convention has been to enter e.g. "1990 census" when a census is used, as other data can be much older than the publication date. Sometimes a citation elsewhere in the article depends on the e17 entry, in which case you will need to change "name=e17" to "name=e18" in the reference tag (assuming the 18th edition still supports the cited claim).

Remember, we want the *total* number of native speakers, which is often not the first figure given by Ethnologue. Sometimes the data is too incompatible to add together (e.g. a figure from the 1950s for one country, and a figure from 2006 for another), in which case it should be presented that way. That's one use for the "speakers2" field. If you're not sure, just ask, or skip that article.

Data should not be displayed with more than two, or at most three, significant figures. Sometimes it should be rounded off to just one significant figure, e.g. when some of the component data used by Ethnologue has been approximated with one figure (200,000, 3 million, etc.) and the other data has greater precision. For example, a figure of 200,000 for one country and 4,230 for another is really just 200,000 in total, as the 4,230 is within the margin of rounding off in the 200,000. If you want to retain the spurious precision of the number in Ethnologue, you might want to use the {{sigfig}} template. (First parameter in this template is for the data, second is for the number of figures to round it off to.)

Dates will often need to be a range of all the country data in the Ethnologue article. When entering the date range, I often ignore dates from countries that have only a few percent of the population, as often 10% or so of the population isn't even separately listed by Ethnologue and so is undated anyway.

If Ethnologue does not provide a date for the bulk of the population, just enter "no date" in the date field. But if the population figure is undated, and hasn't changed between the 17th & 18th editions of Ethnologue, please leave the ref field set to "e17", and maybe add a comment to keep it so that other editors don't change it. In cases like this, the edition of Ethnologue that the data first appeared in may be our only indication of how old it is. We still cite the 14th edition in a couple dozen articles, so our readers can see that the data is getting old.

The articles in the categories linked above are over 90% of the job. There are probably also articles that do not currently cite Ethnologue, but which we might want to update with the 18th edition. I'll need to generate another category to capture those, probably after most of the Ethnologue 17 citations are taken care of.

One editor is doing nearly all the work, while I'm spending more time with AIATSIS and ethnic population citations right now. Easter egg

Hi there,

I think you almost total reversion at Easter egg was inappropriate, given the nature and scale of the work done. The article as I found it was in a very poor state, with huge WP:UNDUE on the alleged Christian symbolism (which is still there in parts I haven't finished]], poor referencing (almost all of aforementioned symbolism sourced from articles or books which don't meet WP:V standards.

I've reverted to my version, because I think we need to work from there if you have concerns over WP:SYNTH etc.

Large parts of the old article can't really stand.

United Methodist Issues

Hi! I am glad other contributors/users are working to help improve pages for denominations and provide accurate information. While much of the condensing you contributed was accurate, some of the wordage could be interpreted as one-sided or even offensive. First, trans* people do not refer to themselves with 'transgenderism' so that is not accurate or suitable. Secondly, official statements from Annual Conferences, Committees, and official agencies are official of the policies and positions of those Conferences and denominational organizations. For example, more than 18 Annual Conferences support same-gender marriage and that should be included in any discussion on differing views in the denomination. Also, you added a statement that states that the UMC does not give funds to LGBT causes and, while in a limited sense that is accurate, that does not also include information that congregations and conferences can, and do, give funds to those groups. While this is only one example, Foundry United Methodist Church regularly holds capital campaigns for Gay Pride.(Pride 2016 Foundry United Methodist Church) If a larger example can be found, do you think that could be included?

I saw this edit you made to Alcohol withdrawal syndrome where you added a cite template with a |coauthors= parameter. Please note that that parameter has been deprecated for years and should no longer be used. Most of the time, numbered author names like |last1=/|first1=, |last2=/|first2= should be used instead. Scapular of Our Lady of Walsingham

Hi there, I was wondering whether you have any sources (including informal/anecdotal) on the Scapular of Our Lady of Walsingham aside from the ones you give in the article. The reason I ask is that your sources do not support the present tense of the article.

I myself am a member of the Society of Our Lady of Walsingham and, contrary to the claim in the article, the Society does not invest one in the scapular on joining. Indeed, I cannot find any evidence to suggest that this scapular is still in use - all mentions of the scapular's existence seem to date from the early 20th century. The more recent sources you give in the article do not mention the scapular, so the article violates WP:SYNTH to a large extent.

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Declined speedy deletion nomination of To the Wind and On To Heaven

Hello Anupam. Speedy deletion work is important and I do appreciate the effort. I would just ask that you please review the criteria carefully because accuracy is also important. On that issue, I have declined your speedy deletion nomination of To the Wind and On To Heaven as an article that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the topic under CSD A7. That criterion did not apply because the article was about an album, and A7 only applies to articles on real persons or groups, individual animals, organisations, web content and organised events. Albums come under A9, but that also did not apply because it is only for articles on musical recordings where none of the contributing recording artists has an article. Train-the-Trainer 2017: Invitation to participate

What is TTT?

New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello Anupam,

A HUGE backlog

We now have 819 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

The Shina language and Devanagari

Hi! In this addition to Shina language you cite Cardona's book for the use of the Devanagari script for the language. I've had a look at the book (to be precise, the 2003 version, which afaik should be identical in content to the 2007 reprint that you cite), and I wasn't able to verify that. On the page cited (947) there's no discussion of Shina at all: the page is about passives in Kashmiri. There is a little paragraph elsewhere (p. 823, which according to the index is the only passage that discusses the writing system of Shina) and the only thing it mentions in connection with Devanagari is that it was proposed in the 1970s by Rajapurohit for the Darsi variety. Is there any way you could double check this was the exact book you meant to cite there? Many thanks! – Uanfala 22:08, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

Eucharist ordering

Hi Anupam, Just for you to understand my edit. The starting sentence on the eucharist was the abandonment of apostolic succession because it links up with the previous last sentence of the previous section on apostolic succession being abandoned.

Also as I wrote in the edit summary, the whole article is on criticism, thus a reader looking for this won't understand why the first paragraph on the eucharist is just an exposition of various doctrines on the eucharist.

Methodist faith and works

Hi Anupam, I just checked the article on Methodism and it actually says: They are "justified by faith alone" - and this is based on the works of Wesley himself. Works of piety are points emphasized but sola fide is still the ruling principle. Marax (talk) 10:04, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi Anupam, thanks for your reply. I think we need to summarize this quote, since the sola fide section is quite long.

Faith is necessary to salvation unconditionally. Good works are necessary only conditionally, that is if there is time and opportunity. The thief on the cross in Luke 23:39-43 is Wesley's example of this. He believed in Christ and was told, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise." This would be impossible if the good works that are the fruit of genuine repentance and faith were unconditionally necessary for salvation. The man was dying and lacked time; his movements were confined and he lacked opportunity. In his case, faith alone was necessary. However, for the vast majority of human beings good works are necessary for continuance in faith because those persons have both the time and opportunity for them

I propose:

Faith is necessary to salvation unconditionally, since the good thief was saved even without though he didn't have time to do any good works. Good works are necessary only conditionally, that is if there is time and opportunity, which is true for the vast majority.

Supporting Indian Wikipedia Program resource distribution

In 2017 - 2018, the Wikimedia Foundation and Google working in close coordination with the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), Wikimedia India chapter (WMIN) and user groups will pilot a program encouraging Wikipedia communities to create locally relevant and high-quality content in Indian languages. This program (Code name: Project Tiger) will:

(a) Support active and experienced Wikipedia editors through the donation of laptops and stipends for internet access and

(b) Sponsor a language-based contest that aims to address existing Wikipedia content gaps.

The objective of the program is to provide laptops and internet stipends for existing editors who need support to contribute more actively. 50 basic model Acer Chromebooks and Internet stipends for 100 contributors are available for distribution. Provided resources are the sole property of the beneficiaries and should be used for the betterment of the movement.

If you're an active Wikimedian, and interested to receive support from this project, please apply. It will take around 10 minutes of your time, and will ask descriptive questions about your contribution to Indic Wikimedia projects.

Well, before you started editing there was a claim about the "Dogra Hindu regime" sourced to Rekha Chowdhary. Your edits somehow changed it to "Dogra Hindu rulers" sourced to somebody called Arvin Bahl, published by Atlantic. In the latest version, Rekha Chowdhary is completely gone, and three other sources have come in which don't have anything to do with the content. Moreover, the dubious claims are repeated in the Punjab section too. The best version seems to be the one before you got involved. Is there any reason why we can't go back to it?

This is supposed to be a list page, basically. Contentious aspects of Kashmir history should not be buried in here. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 06:24, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for eliminating the Brothers (Catholic) page that I created; I realized my mistake and went back to delete it, and found that you had already taken care of it. But may I ask you, what would you think of my creating a redirect for "Catholic sister" to Nun#Distinction between a nun and a religious sister? Catholic sisters today do not like to be called nuns; the distinction has become so wide that I considered creating a separate page for Catholic sisters and moving some of the material on them from "Nun" to there. With the "sister" category overtaking that of "nun" in the modern Catholic church, would you think it helpful to have a separate article on Catholic sisters? Project Tiger Writing Contest

In 2017 – 2018, the Wikimedia Foundation and Google working in close coordination with the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), Wikimedia India Chapter (WMIN) and user groups from India, are piloting a program encouraging Wikipedia communities to create locally relevant and high-quality content in Indian languages. Phase (a) has been completed, during which active contributors were awarded laptops and internet stipends. Phase (b) will be a contest in which editors will come together and develop a writing contest focused on content gaps. Reply to talk page message: As a new page reviewer , then you should be aware of the NPP guideline that says you should wait at least 15 minutes before editing a new page, to avoid this very problem. That is what the In Creation tag is for. And I think it is just as rude to trash someone else's work, not once but twice, without explanation. So, can I get on, or are we going to be edit scuffling over this all night? Swanny18 (talk) 21:35, 22 April 2018 (UTC)

To respond to your guideline-bombing of my talk page, and to be clear (as you seemed oblivious as to what the offence was): My reference to your “trashing my work” was that, after adding the section, then previewing and correcting it for a couple of minutes, my work was then lost when I came to save it to the article, due to in an edit conflict caused because you had added half a line of text to the page. And this happened not once, but twice, the second time after I'd asked you to stop. Would you welcome someone leaning over your shoulder to add a bit to a report/essay/letter/poem/doodle/shopping list you were writing, while you were still writing it?

Second, the 15 minute delay just being “with respect to tagging an article for deletion”; that's a bit WP:WLlegalistic, isn't it? It stands to reason that a page with only one paragraph on might not be finished, especially if the editor has taken the precaution of posting one of the “hang on a bit” templates: and anyway the In Creation template suggests up to half-hour, not just 15 minutes.

So, this was me asking everyone to refrain from editing while I'm working, and this was you telling me to bugger off (twice!); which of us was being uncivil there?

And no, I don't think I own the page; after I'd finished what I was doing you (and anyone else) were welcome to do what you like with it.

Also, I am familiar enough with article categorization, thanks, as you would have seen had you waited half-an-hour or so.

As for assuming good faith, I can do that; but I'd also like to assume common sense, particularly from someone who's been entrusted with reviewing new pages. The only reason to be looking at a new page three minutes after it's been posted is to see if it needs immediate attention (attack pages, copyright violations, etc) otherwise it is only common sense to leave it alone until it is finished before chipping in with what is missing. And I can't see any reason at all for ignoring a hang-on-a-bit request (outwith those circumstances) if it is still within the time frame.

I'm sure you have your own view of this matter, and hold out very little hope that you will take note of this, but if we are going back to the days of New Page Patrollers playing Splat-the-Rat with articles, then it needs saying. Swanny18 (talk) 01:21, 25 April 2018 (UTC)

Just as an FYI, I did change your addition citing Benedict XVI: the book was written in 1993, long before the person of Joseph Ratzinger was elected Pope Benedict XVI. Normally sources make the distinction, and the book was published under that name originally. Most of the time the reprints include the Benedict name as a marketing tactic by the publisher, not as an actual change of authorship status. Not a big deal, but wanted to let you know in case you come across any pre-2005 Ratzinger. TonyBallioni (talk) 04:37, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

Lutherans and images

Hi, I think the line you are pushing in various articles misrepresents the equivocal attitude to images than Lutherans have had, going back to Luther himself. It is as easy to assemble hostile remarks by Luther on images as positive ones, and the plain fact is that Lutheran churches saw almost as big a clear-out of pre-Reformation Catholic art as Calvinist ones, with any replacement of works very slow and patchy. You should also be careful about attributing theological positions to large groups of the population in the 16th century. Although the lay public took a much greater interest in such things than even regular church-goers do today, most uneducated people could not have articulated clearly their thoughts on such matters. General sources on these issues should be treated with some caution - recent work by specialists will typically be much more nuanced. This is an interesting article on Lutheran attitudes at various periods, which gives a more balanced perspective. Also this. Johnbod (talk) 13:25, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

Last month's auspicious relaunch of our newsletter precipitated something of an uproar in the Wikipedia community. What started as a localized edit war over censorship spilled over onto the Administrator's Noticeboard finally ending up at Wikipedia's supreme judicial body ArbCom. Their ruling resulted in the admonishment of administrator Future Perfect at Sunrise for his involvement in the dispute. The story was reported by Wikipedia's venerable flagship newspaper The Signpost.

The question of whether to delete all portals--including the 27 Christianity-related portals--was put to the Wikipedia community. Approximately 400 editors have participated in the protracted discussion. Going by !votes, Oppose deletion has a distinct majority. The original Christianity Portal was created on November 5, 2005 by Brisvegas and the following year he successfully nominated the portal for Featured Portal. The Transhumanist has revived WikiProject Portals with hopes of revitalizing Wikipedia's system of 1,515 portals.

Operation Auca was an attempt by five Evangelical Christian missionaries from the United States to make contact with the Huaorani people of the rainforest of Ecuador. The Huaorani, also known as the Aucas, were an isolated tribe known for their violence, both against their own people and outsiders who entered their territory. With the intention of being the first Protestants to evangelize the Huaorani, the missionaries began making regular flights over Huaorani settlements in September 1955, dropping gifts. After several months of exchanging gifts, on January 2, 1956, the missionaries established a camp at "Palm Beach", a sandbar along the Curaray River, a few miles from Huaorani settlements. Their efforts culminated on January 8, 1956, when all five—Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Ed McCully, Peter Fleming, and Roger Youderian—were attacked and speared by a group of Huaorani warriors. The news of their deaths was broadcast around the world, and Life magazine covered the event with a photo essay. The deaths of the men galvanized the missionary effort in the United States, sparking an outpouring of funding for evangelization efforts around the world. Their work is still frequently remembered in evangelical publications, and in 2006, was the subject of the film production End of the Spear. (more...)

ACTRIAL:

• WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

• Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

• A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

• There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

• Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

• The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
• Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

• A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

• Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.

The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara

The Mortara case was a controversy precipitated by the Papal States' seizure of Edgardo Mortara, a six-year-old Jewish child, from his family in Bologna, Italy, in 1858. The city's inquisitor, Father Pier Feletti, heard from a servant that she had administered emergency baptism to the boy when he fell sick as an infant, and the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Roman and Universal Inquisition held that this made the child irrevocably a Catholic. Because the Papal States had forbidden the raising of Christians by members of other faiths, it was ordered that he be taken from his family and brought up by the Church. After visits from the child's father, international protests mounted, but Pope Pius IX would not be moved. The boy grew up as a Catholic with the Pope as a substitute father, trained for the priesthood in Rome until 1870, and was ordained in France three years later. In 1870 the Kingdom of Italy captured Rome during the unification of Italy, ending the pontifical state; opposition across Italy, Europe and the United States over Mortara's treatment may have contributed to its downfall. Russian Agents Editing at American Politics?

After a series of unfortunate events largely self-created, bureaucrat and admin Andrevan was the subject of an Arbitration case for conduct unbecoming. Prior to the case getting underway Andrevan resigned as bureaucrat and admin. A widely discussed incident was when he suggested that some editors he described as "pro-Trump" were paid Russian agents. This resulted in a number of editors from varied quarters denouncing the allegations and voicing support for veteran editors including Winkelvi and the notorious MONGO.

Editors who faced Enforcement action include SPECIFICO (no action), Factchecker atyourservice (three month topic ban ARBAPDS), Netoholic (no action) and Anythingyouwant (indef topic ban ARBAPDS). (Discuss this story)

Breitbart Versus Wikipedia

Breitbart News, in response to Facebook's decision to use Wikipedia as a source to fight fake news, has declared war on our beloved pedia. The article in Haaretz describes the Facebook arrangement as Wikipedia's "greatest test in years" as well as a "massive threat" to the encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Breitbart's targeting of Wikipedia has resulted in an "epic battle" with respect to editing at the Breitbart article. The article has also recently experienced a dramatic increase in traffic with 50,000 visitors according to Haaretz. There is no love lost between Breitbart and Wikipedia where editors at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard have criticized the news websites unreliability and have compared it to The Daily Mail. List of dates predicted for apocalyptic events. Predictions of apocalyptic events that would result in the extinction of humanity, a collapse of civilization, or the destruction of the planet have been made since at least the beginning of the Christian Era. Most predictions are related to Abrahamic religions, often standing for or similar to the eschatological events described in their scriptures. Christian predictions typically refer to events like the Rapture, Great Tribulation, Last Judgment, and the Second Coming of Christ.

Polls conducted in 2012 across 20 countries found over 14% of people believe the world will end in their lifetime, with percentages raging from 6% of people in France to 22% in the US and Turkey. In the UK in 2015, the general public believed the likeliest cause would be nuclear war, while experts thought it would be artificial intelligence. WikiProject Conservatism Comes Under Fire

WikiProject Conservatism was a topic of discussion at the Administrators' Noticeboard/Incident (AN/I). Objective3000 started a thread where he expressed concern regarding the number of RFC notices posted on the Discussion page suggesting that such notices "could result in swaying consensus by selective notification." Several editors participated in the relatively abbreviated six hour discussion. The assertion that the project is a "club for conservatives" was countered by editors listing examples of users who "profess no political persuasion." It was also noted that notification of WikiProjects regarding ongoing discussions is explicitly permitted by the WP:Canvassing guideline.

At one point the discussion segued to feedback about The Right Stuff. Member SPECIFICO wrote: "One thing I enjoy about the Conservatism Project is the handy newsletter that members receive on our talk pages." Atsme praised the newsletter as "first-class entertainment...BIGLY...first-class...nothing even comes close...it's amazing." Some good-natured sarcasm was offered with Objective3000 observing, "Well, they got the color right" and MrX's followup, "Wow. Yellow is the new red."

Admin Oshwah closed the thread with the result "definitely not an issue for ANI" and directing editors to the project Discussion page for any further discussion. Editor's note: originally the design and color of The Right Stuff was chosen to mimic an old, paper newspaper.

Research About AN/I

Reprinted in part from the April 26, 2018 issue of The Signpost; written by Zarasophos

Out of over one hundred questioned editors, only twenty-seven (27%) are happy with the way reports of conflicts between editors are handled on the Administrators' Incident Noticeboard (AN/I), according to a recent survey . The survey also found that dissatisfaction has varied reasons including "defensive cliques" and biased administrators as well as fear of a "boomerang effect" due to a lacking rule for scope on AN/I reports. The survey also included an analysis of available quantitative data about AN/I. Some notable takeaways:

• 53% avoided making a report due to fearing it would not be handled appropriately
• "Otherwise 'popular' users often avoid heavy sanctions for issues that would get new editors banned."
• "Discussions need to be clerked to keep them from raising more problems than they solve."

In the wake of Zarasophos' article editors discussed the AN/I survey at The Signpost and also at AN/I. Ironically a portion of the AN/I thread was hatted due to "off-topic sniping." To follow-up the problems identified by the research project the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-Harassment Tools team and Support and Safety team initiated a discussion. June backlog drive

Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.

New technology, new rules

• New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
• Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
• Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.

Editathons

• Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

• The next issue of the monthly magazine will be out soon. The newspaper is an excellent way to stay up to date with news and new developments between our newsletters. Since this was something convicted sockpuppeter Menj often did I was wondering if it was worth investigating and adding to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Menj. NPR Newsletter No.13 18 September 2018

Hello Anupam, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

The New Page Feed currently has 2700 unreviewed articles, up from just 500 at the start of July. For a while we were falling behind by an average of about 40 articles per day, but we have stabilised more recently. Please review some articles from the back of the queue if you can (Sort by: 'Oldest' at Special:NewPagesFeed), as we are very close to having articles older than one month.

Project news

• The New Page Feed now has a new "Articles for Creation" option which will show drafts instead of articles in the feed, this shouldn't impact NPP activities and is part of the WMF's AfC Improvement Project.

As part of this project, the feed will have some larger updates to functionality next month. Specifically, ORES predictions will be built in, which will automatically flag articles for potential issues such as vandalism or spam. Copyright violation detection will also be added to the new page feed. See the projects's talk page for more info.

• There are a number of coordination tasks for New Page Patrol that could use some help from experienced reviewers. See Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Coordination#Coordinator tasks for more info to see if you can help out.

Other

• A new summary page of reliable sources has been created; Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources/Perennial sources, which summarizes existing RfCs or RSN discussions about regularly used sources.

Moving to Draft and Page Mover

• Some unsuitable new articles can be best reviewed by moving them to the draft space, but reviewers need to do this carefully and sparingly. It is most useful for topics that look like they might have promise, but where the article as written would be unlikely to survive AfD. If the article can be easily fixed, or if the only issue is a lack of sourcing that is easily accessible, tagging or adding sources yourself is preferable. If sources do not appear to be available and the topic does not appear to be notable, tagging for deletion is preferable (PROD/AfD/CSD as appropriate). See additional guidance at WP:DRAFTIFY.
• If the user moves the draft back to mainspace, or recreates it in mainspace, please do not re-draftify the article (although swapping it to maintain the page history may be advisable in the case of copy-paste moves). AfC is optional except for editors with a clear conflict of interest.
• Articles that have been created in contravention of our paid-editing-requirements or written from a blatant NPOV perspective, or by authors with a clear COI might also be draftified at discretion.
• The best tool for draftification is User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js^(info). Kindly adapt the text in the dialogue-pop-up as necessary (the default can also be changed like this). Note that if you do not have the Page Mover userright, the redirect from main will be automatically tagged as CSD R2, but in some cases it might be better to make this a redirect to a different page instead.
• The Page Mover userright can be useful for New Page Reviewers; occasionally page swapping is needed during NPR activities, and it helps avoid excessive R2 nominations which must be processed by admins. Note that the Page Mover userright has higher requirements than the NPR userright, and is generally given to users active at Requested Moves. Only reviewers who are very experienced and are also very active reviewers are likely to be granted it solely for NPP activities.

List of other useful scripts for New Page Reviewing

Twinkle provides a lot of the same functionality as the page curation tools, and some reviewers prefer to use the Twinkle tools for some/all tasks. It can be activated simply in the gadgets section of 'preferences'. There are also a lot of options available at the Twinkle preferences panel after you install the gadget. In terms of other gadgets for NPR, HotCat is worth turning on. It allows you to easily add, remove, and change categories on a page, with name suggestions. MoreMenu also adds a bunch of very useful links for diagnosing and fixing page issues. User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js(info): Installing scripts doesn't have to be complicated. Go to your common.js and copy importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); into an empty line, now you can install all other scripts with the click of a button from the script page! (Note you need to be at the ".js" page for the script for the install button to appear, not the information page) User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js(info): Creates a scrolling new pages list at the left side of the page. You can change the number of pages shown by adding the following to the next line on your common.js page (immediately after the line importing this script): npp_num_pages=20; (Recommended 20, but you can use any number from 1 to 50). User:Primefac/revdel.js(info): Is requesting revdel complicated and time consuming? This script helps simplify the process. Just have the Copyvio source URL and go to the history page and collect your diff IDs and you can drop them into the script Popups and it will create a revdel request for you. User:Lourdes/PageCuration.js(info): Creates a "Page Curation" link to Special:NewPagesFeed up near your sandbox link. User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js: Creates links next to the title of each page which show up if it has been previously deleted or nominated for deletion. User:Evad37/rater.js(info): A fantastic tool for adding WikiProject templates to article talk pages. If you add: rater_autostartNamespaces = 0; to the next line on your common.js, the prompt will pop up automatically if a page has no Wikiproject templates on the talk page (note: this can be a bit annoying if you review redirects or dab pages commonly).

thank you for reviewing my newly created Gramme (disambiguation)! I also noticed you created a talk page for that article. As far as I understand the documentation Template:WikiProject Disambiguation (see footnote 1 there), this talk page should not have been created? I've created a lot of disambig pages recently, therefore I'm interested in this topic.

Community Wishlist Proposal

• There is currently an ongoing discussion regarding the drafting of a Community Wishlist Proposal for the purpose of requesting bug fixes and missing/useful features to be added to the New Page Feed and Curation Toolbar.
• Please join the conversation as we only have until 29 October to draft this proposal!

Project updates

• ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
• There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

New scripts

• Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

But, I was hoping you could have a relook at Minahan at least once. Reporting some details also reported by others can't correct the flaws. I think you already know about his wrong characterization of Arab & Ghaznavid invasions, plus timelines not backed up by historical facts.

Can you verify this Documentary about the Sikhs and Hindus of Afghanistan made by an Afghan Sikh Journalist for Sangat Televison UK. It has subtitles but I just want to be sure. Btw the Sikh director is from Kabul so therefore he speaks only Dari (Persian) and even with the local Jalalabad (Pashto) population he spoke Farsi. Singh, Pritpal (Director) (January 20, 2013). • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
• {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)

Reminders

• NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

• Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
• Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.

QUALITY of REVIEWING

Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.

Backlog

The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.

Move to draft

NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.

Notifying users

Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.

PERM

Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.

When God Writes Your Love Story: The Ultimate Approach to Guy/Girl Relationships is a 1999 book by Eric and Leslie Ludy, an American married couple. After becoming a bestseller on the Christian book market, the book was republished in 2004 and then revised and expanded in 2009. It tells the story of the authors' first meeting, courtship, and marriage. The authors advise single people not to be physically or emotionally intimate with others, but to wait for the spouse that God has planned for them.

The book is divided into five sections and sixteen chapters. Each chapter is written from the perspective of one of the two authors; nine are by Eric, while Leslie wrote seven, as well as the introduction. Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.

This month's refresher course

Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.

Deletion tags

Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.

Paid editing

Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion

• Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
• Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.

Not English

• A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.

Tools

Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.

Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.

Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.

DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "cite" click on it
2. Then click on "templates",
3. Choose the most appropriate template and fill in the details beside a magnifying glass followed by clicking said button,
4. If the article is available in Pubmed Central, you have to add the pmc parameter manually -- click on "show additional fields" in the template and you will see the "pmc" field. Please add just the number and don't include "PMC".

New Page Review newsletter November 2019

Hello Anupam,

This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.

Getting the queue to 0

There are now 819 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Coordinator

Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.

• It is now possible to select new pages by date range. This was requested by reviewers who want to patrol from the middle of the list.
• It is now also possible for accredited reviewers to put any article back into the New Pages Feed for re-review. The link is under 'Tools' in the side bar.

Reviewer Feedback

Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.

Second set of eyes

• Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
• Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.

Arbitration Committee

The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.

Community Wish list

There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.

Christian perfection

Hi. I was reading the article Christian perfection and came across a couple phrases or sentences that didn't make sense, both added by you in the last couple of years. First, in this edit, I wonder whether the phrase "Perfect love, as Christian perfect is often called" is right. Did the source say perhaps "as Christian perfection is often called"? I can't check your reference.

Second, in this edit, I don't understand the sentence:

Irenaeus wrote about the spiritual transformation that occurred in the believer as the Holy Spirit is to "fit us for God."

It doesn't seem to be grammatical. Can you tell me what you meant? Should it perhaps say:

Irenaeus wrote that the spiritual transformation occurring in the believer was a work of the Holy Spirit to "fit us for God."

A Song for Simeon, is a 37-line poem written in 1928 by American-English poet T. S. Eliot (1888–1965). It is one of five poems that Eliot contributed to the Ariel poems series of 38 pamphlets by several authors published by Faber and Gwyer. "A Song for Simeon" was the sixteenth in the series and included an illustration by avant garde artist Edward McKnight Kauffer. The poem's narrative echoes the text of the Nunc dimittis, a liturgical prayer for Compline from the Gospel passage. Eliot introduces literary allusions to earlier writers Lancelot Andrewes, Dante Alighieri and St. John of the Cross. Critics have debated whether Eliot's depiction of Simeon is a negative portrayal of a Jewish figure and evidence of anti-Semitism on Eliot's part. (more...)
