McConnel Johnson Innovation Center

jonesrmj - You said my article about McConnel Johnson Innovation Center is proposed to be deleted and it seems like a reason (according to what I saw) was that it isn't a real building. Thats because its proposed. Also, what are some other reasons on why this article is proposed to be deleted? Thanks, -jonesrmj

You can see the discussion, and contribute, over at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/McConnell Johnson Innovation Center. I proposed it because it is an article about a building that doesn't yet (if ever) exist. I don't believe that should be in the encyclopaedia. You are welcome to disagree. 🍺 Antiqueight chat 18:38, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
I kind of don't get it cause aren't there other articles about proposed buildings as well jonesrmj
There may be but I haven't seen them but in any case Wikipedia:Other stuff exists - the issue is whether it is notable enough to have a page and the consensus is that it was not. 🍺 Antiqueight chat 11:32, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

What page did you find this sourced on that you added with this edit? ww2censor (talk) 17:25, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

Oh drat - I didn't note it - I'll have to go back and find it again - I'm not sure it's a fair reference either... 🍺 Antiqueight chat 20:05, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
I will put any better reference in there when I can find one - Geology not my top speciality... 🍺 Antiqueight chat 20:50, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

Are you checking my all created articles. And how come are you checking my articles. Are an administrator? ЖunalForYou ☎️📝 15:51, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

No, I think I only came across you twice. One I think showed up on page patrol and I don't remember why I saw the other. 🍺 Antiqueight chat 15:55, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

Please help

Hello, I just now created a template Koimoi. But when I added the template in Sunny Deol article, the template was successfully working, but on clicking the template, the page says "Not found". Can you help the template to work. ЖunalForYou ☎️📝 16:44, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

Unfortunately I have no real knowledge of templates except to use them. But it is pointing to the wrong link in Koimoi I think. Koimoi claims to have no actor page. 🍺 Antiqueight chat 17:08, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

Automated message?

Hi Antiqueight, thanks for your message. You're correct I'm not the original author (I moved the page), but I'm guessing you used Twinkle and it seems the automatic notifications don't see the distinction. No worries, but appreciate your note. Cheers Melcous (talk)

Yes- that was it precisely and it took a second before I realised it had done that so rather than delete it off your page and cause confusion I left it and added the note..Glad you understood. :-) 🍺 Antiqueight chat 23:21, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

Redoing refs

Hi. I noticed that you've recently been working on the page for Catherine Allen Latimer, which is great. However, I've noticed that you've been moving all the references into the body of the text, not just the new ones you've added. You may not be aware that the policy here is to leave references in the style started by the original author of the page, and if you want to make changes, to seek consensus first. (See WP:CITEVAR.) I strongly prefer to keep ref info out of the body of the text because it makes editing so much easier (less cluttered), so I wanted to let you know that as the page's originator, I am going to revert them back, though of course keeping your specific additions to the page. Cheers, Alafarge (talk) 22:52, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

I see, yes - I usually put them in the text so I know what reference refers to which point and while was adding references I broke some of the existing ones and put them back and matched them as I was familiar without noticing I was changing the style. Another point to learn. 🍺 Antiqueight chat 23:09, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
I found her fascinating and got carried away a bit... 🍺 Antiqueight chat 23:14, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
I agree on how interesting she is & really appreciated the new info you dug up on her. With respect to refs, I find that naming the refs by the author name or website name helps me keep them straight, instead of using something generic like numbers.Alafarge (talk) 17:57, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

A page you started (Anne Fuller) has been reviewed!

Thanks for creating Anne Fuller, Antiqueight!

Wikipedia editor Blythwood just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Looks like a really interesting topic for an article, thanks for creating this! I've been reading through Google Books and found quite a lot of other citations, which I've added where they look worth having - hope that's OK.
My one real concern is the "considered one of the key Irish authors of gothic fiction" phrase - I'm no expert on this topic, but the sources I've seen certainly don't all say that, so I think you might want to think about rephrasing or qualifying that? Otherwise looks good.

  • Hi and thanks for stopping by my talkpage. I thought I'd drop off an official invitation here, which is why I didn't respond on my talkpage. Basically, editors from around the world will be creating biographies about women artists, activists, social reformers, and feminists, plus articles about works of art created by women. Some editors will work on wikignome tasks such as these, event tasks list. You are warmly welcome to jump in with any of this. Please add your name on our meetup page (linked in the invitation) if you wish. And do let me know if you have any other questions. Best, --Rosiestep (talk) 02:50, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
Hi Rosiestep and thank you for commenting here because I totally forgot to watch your page....I've signed up. I'm currently working on missing women writers (especially Irish ones) mostly because I can understand the sources I find. Unless something very odd happens I'd be happy to work with you all on this or other parts of the project. Though - you are the second person to mention wikidata so can I ask for a good place to go to read up on that? Until recently I've really stuck to vandal bopping rather than editing for content. But assuming my last few efforts aren't too bad I need to start getting up to speed on the intricacies of creation and making sure all the ts are crossed. 🍺 Antiqueight chat 03:04, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm not an expert with Wikidata, though I've created many entries there. The best place to ask about it and how it fits in with the work we're doing eon th Women in Red talkpage. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 03:13, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
Hip deep in alligators, but off the top, to eliminate orphan status, link your articles to List of Irish women writers and then remove the tag. We have real problems with people who nominate articles on women for deletion, so be sure in the lede to state unequivocally why they are notable. I would also suggest marking them with the stub tag if the basic biographical details are unknown and/or if your text is not at least 1500 characters. Writer stub tags I've briefly looked at Anna Millikin and will try to get to some of the others, though it will probably not be all today. Please feel free to ping me if you have questions and I'll be glad to try to help.SusunW (talk) 16:29, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
I saw you add that page so I'm adding the others too. I'll go back and stub most of them as they really are. I'll try to make the notable more so..even if it is to reuse the same quote from a paper on how they are the key irish gothic novelists (that lot anyway) and can probably shoehorn some onto austin as I think she made reference to one or two of them. Thanks. 🍺 Antiqueight chat 16:32, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Hi Antiqueight. I'm really happy to see you've joined the club and are already writing new articles and improving old ones. I should perhaps draw your attention to the fact that you inadvertently caused a problem with the WiR members list when you added content to your member card entry. Everything returned to normal when you deleted everything but your membership details. If you ever need any assistance with anything, please let me know.--Ipigott (talk) 10:39, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
IpigottThanks - I saw you curated some of my articles as well and removed the stub comments. Thank you for that. I had no idea adding content to the project card page would break the membership page. I was moving the content around looking for a simple place to store the information I would need for the pages I wanted to create. Anyway - I am sorry for the inconvenience but please if you have hints tips or requests for things I can work on, let me know. I'm always happy to help. 🍺 Antiqueight chat 13:00, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. That's a great offer. You seem to be a highly competent editor. If you are interested in art, you might like to create a few biographies on Irish women artists in connection with our Art+Feminism editathon. If I have anything more specific, I'll let you know.--Ipigott (talk) 13:13, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
Is there a missing list of Irish artists? I know less about artists than gothic novelists but I can write a basic biography article for anyone. Irish is easier as I know and understand the environment and I'm biased enough to want to start with Irish women but I don't know enough to identify from a general redlink list which people are Irish. The writers page has a "by nationality" list which let me accidentally find a whole host of other Irish women writers. I'll take a look anyway. 🍺 Antiqueight chat 14:57, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Eithne Strong

I give Contemporary Authors Online a stronger weight as a source since it is a traditional reference source, but if enough sources contradict each other, then it can get confusing. What information should be included? Should all contradictions be mentioned? They actually say 1923 on that site, but I noticed the contradictions so I left it for now. I am sure I will be back once I find more sources. --LibraryGurl (talk) 17:52, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

Librarygurl - It was 2 of the 5 sources said 23 but now it's 3 of the 5 and at least 2 of those are good quality sources. So for now I've put it back to 23. Let's see. 🍺 Antiqueight chat 18:05, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

G6 candidates

Hello Antiqueight, and thank you for your work. I just wanted to let you know there has been some discussion at WT:CSD about whether old abandoned user draft/pages qualify for speedy deletion under G13 or G6. Deletion under G13 has not gained consensus, and most people read G6 pretty narrowly (drafts containing only the default Article Wizard text). I think many old abandoned pages qualify under U5, and I have deleted a couple of your nominations accordingly. However, I anticipate you will get pushback for nominating these under G6, so I wanted to let you know about the prior discussions.--Mojo Hand (talk) 15:37, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for the note Mojo Hand. I don't really follow (ie understand at first glance) the discussion - I used Twinkle and selected the most appropriate option (housekeeping) for places where I thought it suited => but I see there is a whole conversation on whether to delete or not at all, let alone under what heading. So I will stop proposals for now and go back to the pages I didn't select for CSD since I thought they had some content worth looking at saving. I thought CSD would let us clear the wheat from the chaff to find those abandoned drafts with merit rather than those already created or of no value. 🍺 Antiqueight chat 15:48, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
I am also a fan of housekeeping and separating wheat from chaff. However, there are lots of different opinions, especially around speedy deletion, and I didn't want you to step in any minefields.--Mojo Hand (talk) 16:34, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
Greatly appreciated. 🍺 Antiqueight chat 16:43, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

March 2016

Hi, I saw your new article and thought it would be nice to nominate it for Wikipedia:Did you know so it will appear on the main page. I went ahead and added some scholarly sources to establish notability, and will probably weed out those publishers' pages which are not reliable sources. I'd also like to add a section on her writing style. You can watch the discussion at Template:Did you know nominations/Janet McNeill. Best, Yoninah (talk) 00:56, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

Greetings Yoninah. I'm delighted to see someone adding to the page. I did what I could creating it with the sources I had access to but I knew from the beginning it was limited in scope. I will watch the discussion with interest as I've never had any involvement with the DYK process. 🍺 Antiqueight chat 01:08, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

SusunW, Rosiestep, Jane023, Ipigott, Yoninah, Librarygurl (As the people I have had some conversation with recently and as people on and interested in Women's history) I was wondering if - if one of you has the time or interest - you would review/assess the article on Louise Gavan Duffy as I think it has some hope of becoming a good article but I only just wrote it...so I'm sure it needs work...but since I'm now blind to it, having spent too long working on it, I could use a hand.... ☕ Antiqueight chatter 03:11, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Using ORES I got http://ores.wmflabs.org/scores/enwiki/wp10/708182178/ "prediction": "GA" -Which is why I think this might be worth putting more time and effort into => but I need help/guidance. ☕ Antiqueight chatter 03:27, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
impressive! I have never had the patience to figure out the whole quality thing, but I would say yes, at first glance. I noticed you have a person data template in there but that has been deprecated and these can be deleted because all info in there belongs on Wikidata. This suffragette was already in Wikidata thanks to a project from the Oxford dictionary of biography, so I linked it to this article. You can better spend any efforts on person data templates in wikidata and just delete the template if you see one. If I created the template or article, then the person data was probably coming from Wikidata to begin with anyway. Thanks for your work! Jane (talk) 06:59, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
Congrats! It is a really good start. If you want to go for GA it needs expansion and clarification on background information. The lede needs to summarize the information in the entirety of the article. Assume your reader knows nothing of Irish history. Brief descriptions are needed to familiarize the reader with the events. What is GPO? It isn't defined anywhere in the article. Upon it's first use, you should say what it is General Post Office (GPO) and explain why it is sigificant. She was "born in France, the daughter of nationalist ..." French nationalist? or more likely Irish nationalist. What is "Treaty in 1921"? Anglo-Irish Treaty perhaps? You have just been talking about suffrage, when you say she joined Cumann na mBan. Probably a brief explanation of the organization's purpose will bridge the transition to it. What is the "Rising"? Under protection of the Red Cross. Which one? The Irish Red Cross was not established until 1939, so was it the International Red Cross? You say "There she found a hold out of Volunteers who were unaware the fighting was over." So are we. No where in the article did you tell the reader there was any fighting nor an end to it. "Duffy was a supporter of the Treaty"...because? What did the treaty say? What is Cumann na Saoirse? I would also suggest you review Earwig and eliminate as many text duplications as possible. Hope this helps. Ping me if you have questions or want to discuss further. SusunW (talk) 07:37, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
  • The article is certainly coming along well but in addition to Susun's points, I would suggest you draw more heavily on sources from published literature. You can find a number of useful references by searching for Louise Gavan Duffy under Google books. I also think you should use the Harvard/sfn system of referencing, which requires you to produce a separate list of sources. You can find information about this at Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Short_citations. It has the advantage of allowing you to cite the page numbers of the specific references rather than grouping them under one source. Have a look at one of our recent GA articles such as Fatima Massaquoi to see how this is done. That article may also give you some ideas about how you could expand on Duffy. I would be happy to assist you with copy editing after you have followed up on our suggestions. At the moment, we are all very busy with Art+Feminism for Women's History Month but we will no doubt be able to help you along further in due course. Thanks for you efforts and good luck with the GA.--Ipigott (talk) 08:05, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
SusunW, Jane023, Ipigott, Oh brilliant- thank you. Yes, I can focus on this and look up the referencing information as I know nothing about that. I indeed forgot that the whole world doesn't know about The Rising - it's the centenary year (and Easter is approaching) so it's the main topic of conversation other than the election that just happened! I will work on that too. I intend to work on the art and feminism side of things too but I have about 3 names left in my list I wanted to get through and I wasn't expecting this one to be so interesting/involving..(mind, Juanita Casey is art I think though I wrote the article thinking she was a writer). Thanks all. ☕ Antiqueight chatter 11:31, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
Well frankly I was on my way to the states with Aer Lingus in January and got stuck in Dublin because of the wind, so I went downtown and saw the museum and enjoyed a guiness near Trinity College. I had an interesting conversation in the bus about the Rising and was told all about the anniversary by a very animated woman in her late 70s who got all excited when I told her about Wikipedia and she claimed there wasn't much there. So if you want to write about that, I think you should! It is Women's history month after all, and I don't know how many Wikipedians there are who could pick this up. Jane (talk) 11:41, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
I already included Juanita Casey on our Art+Feminist outcomes list.--Ipigott (talk) 11:43, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
Jane023 I shall look into other names for this so too...the Rising had strong art ties. Ipigott Oh cool! Thanks. ☕ Antiqueight chatter 11:49, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
Nice article. Commonly, I wouldn't see an "Other reading" section in a GA article, so you might consider incorporating that material in the article and reference it accordingly. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:23, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
Thank you Rosiestep. The other reading is from the end of one of the sources I used and it was 4am so I had no intention of trying to find the sources then...However I also hadn't thought of it as not being typical for a GA so I will do that, go through and see what I can find to cite or not.. ☕ Antiqueight chatter 15:56, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

RIGHT! I have made some changes- let me know your thoughts..and I'll work on actual page number references tomorrow. I think I'll create a new article for someone else tonight. I'm tired of reading the same words ;-) ☕ Antiqueight chatter 19:00, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Oh dear - the ORES tool? Yesterday the GA score was .4444 and today it is 0.3370. Does this mean I'm making the article worse? ☕ Antiqueight chatter 19:03, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
IMO, you are much closer to GA now. I have never used the ORES tool, so don't really know what that's all about. The tips Dr. Blofeld taught me: Make sure the articles sufficiently gives detail that someone not familiar with the subject still understands the context. Text should be 7500 characters or more. You need at least one photo with proper licensing (it can be fair use). No copyvios, adequate sourcing, harv-ref sourcing is preferred. I usually have someone I trust review and liberally edit the article before I nominate it. For me it will take up to a week or longer to prepare it for GA just to make sure I have all my ducks in a row. SusunW (talk) 22:01, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
Cool, thanks - it's good to know it is actually getting better. I'm not that concerned by the ORES tool except that it gave me the push to improve this article in the first place :-). I have no clue how I'm going to get a photo. It may have to be something fairly generic unless I can get someone closer to the national library to see if they have something copywrite free. I will leave it for a day or so and come back with fresh eyes (if I can stop playing with it). Thank you so much for your input. I have only recently started seriously creating articles and have no idea about what makes it better. ☕ Antiqueight chatter 22:13, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
If the National Library does not have public domain images, you can clip and upload 1 non-free image as fair use with the justification that she is dead. Here's one I did which shows you how to justify it [1] SusunW (talk) 23:18, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
Oh! I didn't know you could do that at all! ☕ Antiqueight chatter 23:35, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Women's role in the Easter Risinig

Women artists are clearly eligible for Art&Feminism, but I was talking to the woman in the bus about women like Margaret Skinnider. Now it looks like she was the only one. Best, Jane (talk) 14:30, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Not sure what you mean by only one. She may have been the only one thus injured but she wasn't the only woman fighting in the rising. Though mostly the women were in more support roles like messenger, cook and nurse, not all of them were. However the more exciting thing is that I just discovered one of the women (though not in the Rising itself) involved in the whole nationalist thing was in fact the old women my mother knew. I had no clue she was involved at all! I will find more stories!! ☕ Antiqueight chatter 14:57, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
I will find more stories!! By which I mean more women with stories. More women in the Easter rising or going forward, the War of Independence or Civil War. ☕ Antiqueight chatter 16:04, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

That is pretty cool. I think because of the centennial that now is the time to capture those stories, because the enthusiasm is there. If you write it, I'm sure readers will appreciate having it available as the remembrance stories start to get published around the various gatherings and events. Good luck tracking down sources for all that stuff though! Jane (talk) 23:39, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Whatever you did to this article the citation style now throws up lots of red errors. It was much better back like this edit. Can you fix it? ww2censor (talk) 10:47, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

I don't understand. I don't see any red errors? ☕ Antiqueight chatter 12:42, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
Hi (I'm one of user:Ipigott's page stalkers). The red errors show up if you install User:Ucucha/HarvErrors, which I highly recommend if you are using {{sfn}} and friends. Sfn uses a link identifier generated from its parameters. {{cite book}} and friends can generate the same link identifier from their last* and date or year parameters, which is the normal way of using sfn. If you use hand-crafted text for the intermediate links (as you are at present) you need to provide the |ref= parameters with exactly the same definition which sfn generates. The cleanest way to do that is to use {{harvid}} as I have done in this edit.
My suggestion is to take advantage of the default behaviour of sfn when the corresponding citation has author surnames and date, and in other cases to use the |work= parameter from the citation (see the handing of Dragonholder references in Anne McCaffrey for an example). That would require more extensive changes to the article that the above example edit, but the result would be nice and tidy. If you like I can update a few of the citations as a further example for you... --Mirokado (talk) 14:09, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
I wondered how you appeared to help in so timely a manner! Yes, as you say - I'm editing by hand on these citations- I was using Prove IT but it doesn't cite that way and besides it usually annoys me. I am glad of your help. If the page is at least not broken now, then I will take time to read and review the above - I won't have a chance most likely before Monday- although I say that and will probably do it at 2am when insomnia hits. If you could add the few examples it would be great as I can initially copy from that. If the page is still showing faults let me know so I can at least fix those. ☕ Antiqueight chatter 14:16, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

OH! I have that script loaded now and there are errors everywhere! ☕ Antiqueight chatter 14:20, 5 March 2016 (UTC) Fixed ☕ Antiqueight chatter 14:28, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Yes it is very helpful! I will provide a few examples of what I am suggesting above, a bit later. --Mirokado (talk) 14:35, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Mirokado for helping out with this. You are far more experienced in this kind of referencing than I am.--Ipigott (talk) 15:04, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

DYK answers

Hi, Antiqueight, thanks for asking. When you write an article and post it, how many people will read it? The way to get articles viewed is to link them to lots of other pages. Then, when someone reads that other page, they'll click on your article, too. But when you nominate your new article for DYK, then it (in the form of a hook) appears on the main page, where it will be viewed by thousands of readers in a 12-hour period! Even my most boring hooks get at least 1,000 hits, and a really good hook can get many more thousands. So yes, if you want your new article to get the most exposure, nominate it for DYK within 7 days of creation.

DYK is known for having a lot of rules. They say the main reason why articles have to be less than 7 days old is because DYK wants to feature new content. However, there are several avenues to nomination. The article could be:

  1. newly created within the last 7 days
  2. 5 times expanded within the last 7 days (so if you wrote a short article a while back, you could expand the character count 5x to qualify for DYK)
  3. GA-approved within the last 7 days (so if you wrote any article a while back, you could add referencing/images to get it up to GA standards, get the GA approval, and then nominate it for DYK)

The hook has to have an inline cite to a reliable source. A primary reference like the subject's own website is fine. I'm not exactly clear where you found her quote; is it something she told you personally? Yoninah (talk) 22:33, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Cool - thank you so much for the reply - her quote is in her military witness statement which is one of the references I do use in the article but I didn't specifically reference the quote. I can go add it? Then that article and the one I've just written seem like something that would be good to work with - the one I've just written I have to look for better back up sources but at one point people complained about her being an examiner (because she was a woman) - she was examining midwifery!! What do you think? ☕ Antiqueight haver 22:40, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
If you add an inline cite (right after the sentence in question), then a military witness statement sounds fine. If you want me to look at specific articles, please give me links to them. Yoninah (talk) 22:53, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
Ha! oops - yes, that would help! Emily Winifred Dickson <-Not actually finished yet but likely to be tomorrow because I'm running out of energy....and Elizabeth Bloxham <-which I'll add the quote to in a few minutes.. ☕ Antiqueight haver 22:59, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
OK, I'll look at them tomorrow after you've finished. You could also tell me the hooks you want to use, and I'll let you know if they work. Yoninah (talk) 23:07, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Yoninah -Apparently I'm far too tired now - I pulled one quote out but it sucks I think. I'll do it tomorrow and let you know. Thanks - I never really thought about DYK because I never use the main page for wikipedia myself! ☕ Antiqueight haver 23:14, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

helpful tools

I saw that Yoninah caught there weren't 1500 characters on your article. Silly me, I should've looked, but was focusing on the question at hand. Here's some helpful stuff for DYK.

I use this DYK check to count the characters in DYK.
this copyvio tool to confirm that there are no copyvios. (it doesn't work on books or pdfs)
this char counter to check hook lengths
this QPQ activity to confirm if the editor has to provide a QPQ
When you get to the point that you have to review an article, just ask if you need help. I always use the tools and prescreen mine to make sure that there won't be too many issues.
one more tool that I really like a lot is a book tool. Just paste in the google book link and it does all the rest except the location of the publisher. [2] SusunW (talk) 01:25, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
I wouldn't have spotted the character count as I didn't realise the quote didn't count. But i have that tool now - Does character counts include the [[ or ref etc? or not?
I didn't know about that google book tool!!!! I will be using that I think!
I read up on the QPQ but I'm not certain - if I start before i get to 5 that's a good thing right - I don't have to wait til my 5th nomination or anything?
I try not to have copy vio but sometimes my mind manages to "rephrase things" exactly like I read it 5 minutes ago! So being able to check repeatedly helps when I remember to!
Anyway - I've updated the article somewhat based on what Yoninah pointed out..I think. ☕ Antiqueight haver 01:38, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
Yep, that's why I installed that tool. It sits over on the left task bar and I can run it on any article. It automatically omits the stuff it is supposed to omit :) The smaller one I use only for hooks and it is manual, so you have to remember what to leave out. On the hook it doesn't count the brackets or the redirects, so if you input Mary Ryan (academic)|Mary Ryan, it is only going to count 9 4 for Mary 1 for the space and 4 for Ryan. Make sense? That book tool is awesome. No, you don't have to wait to do a QPQ. I think I started doing them on my 3rd nomination. SusunW (talk) 02:52, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

DYK questions moar

SusunW and Yoninah

Alice Oldham <==is this still eligible? How about (to be phrased slightly better tomorrow)

Did you know that when women like Alice Oldham suggested they be allowed attend Trinity, the Provost said it would only happen over his dead body. Women started there the year he died... ☕ Antiqueight haver 02:36, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

Oldham was created on the 29th. To be within 7 days would have had to be nominated by the 6th. If you can expand it to 5 x the size it was on the 29th, 2494 char, i.e. 12470, char you can nominate it.
Shorter is better: that the Provost who told Alice Oldham she could attend university "over his dead body", died the year women were admitted to Trinity? SusunW (talk) 02:59, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
I thought it was too old - but I was playing with the DYK checker and it told me some articles were too old but not this one - so I was not certain if I had the info right...

Thank you - I'll see what I can pull from the others that are more recent...Also the copy vio tool scared me - it had a 97% match on one article to another site! Then I realised the site had pulled it's copy FROM my text not the other way around. ☕ Antiqueight haver 12:11, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

I've had that happen too, but it's one of the reasons I use it. In the event a reviewer says it's a violation, I have already done my homework and can say, nope, they are violating me ;) SusunW (talk) 15:09, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

Using your advice and reworded tags I have submitted a new one as I didn't want the article to get too old. Red links don't matter. Almost all of my articles have lots of them. Style doesn't either, as long as there are NPOV issues, it is referenced and cited and there are no "bald references". Your tick will have to be the blue check AGF (and you should note that you have no access to the source), as the book Up Till Now used as the cite does not appear accessible on line (or at least it isn't to me here in Mexico.) citatons

@Antiqueight and Megalibrarygirl: to keep this from continuing on the DYK page...I learned it from Dr. Blofeld and Rosiestep, except the {{|ref={{harvid|refname|date}} for ones without an author ;) 3 things to try if there is no page number on the cite, look at "view all" link, sometimes it gives them; sometimes there is a page counter at the top that will give the numbers as you scroll; and then there is the paste method, push the little chainlink looking thing on the page you are on, copy that code into another link and it will say something like PP141, that's the page number, i.e. 141, where it talks about Mabel's pregnancy [3]. If you take off all the gobbledegoop in the link after that notation, you can go directly to the correct page. I'm not sure if I am making it clear, but if not, just ask. SusunW (talk) 00:22, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

SusunW Thanks - I knew about the view all - I curse when that doesn't work, which it didn't in this case and I couldn't get a standard page no. as far as I could see. So I had made sure that all were searchable in the text - I didn't think of trying the other method. I was using your cool tool for google books to get the reference to work. Previous to that I would just have referenced the title of the book so this was already one step better where at least every reference was searchable online... I can try that other method now - well, actually not now now as I'm headed for bed. I'm glad to know you are watching as it makes me more comfortable that you'll ping if it's out of proper behaviour/rules etc.. ☕ Antiqueight haver 00:28, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Good work

It was a lot of work to convert all the refs in Mabel McConnell Fitzgerald to Harvard format!

Just so you know, there is an alternative, described here: Template:Rp#With_parentheses. You can still use the more common reference format, and the template adds page numbers following the citation within the article. It's not often used, but I like it becuse it feels cleaner than Harvard referencing.

So I ticked the DYK as good to go after some slight modifications to ALT1 to shorten it and bring it into compliance with formatting requirements for DYK. Let's hope it is reviewed soon and makes the front page. — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 19:25, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Actually it's pretty easy to convert- I've done it a few times now and search and replace does a pretty good job..But the hard part was getting the page numbers - for the longest time it insisted all the references were on page 141 no matter what I did. That was the time consuming part. Good to know there is another way to add page numbers to citations though for short articles or ones with only a few references. I like the way the harvard citations look when completed but I am still looking for my preferred citation style and it isn't that one....I shall continue the hunt ;-) ☕ Antiqueight haver 10:42, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
Found the citation for the election slogan paragraph-- the same ref the photo is from: http://freespace.virgin.net/hearth.nireland/Coll%20Gr%20McConnell.html. He was duly elected, but refused to take his seat and joined the first Dail." I also found that slogan was used by Joseph McGuinness in the 1918 general election, so was it more widely used by jailed Sinn Féin politicians? --Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 08:31, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Timing is no concern, - you have to decide. I have no time now, nor tomorrow, - best talk to those who comment. We sourced the Swedish singer together, could happen again, no? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:45, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
I have a wee bit of time today, but tomorrow am Chichen Itza bound. Let me look at it. SusunW (talk) 20:49, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Oh, thank you, if you can. And oh boy, I'm very envious! Never been to Mexico! ☕ Antiqueight haver 21:18, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
I live in Mexico. Chichen Itza is only about 2 hours from me and we've never been, so we are going. :) SusunW (talk) 21:54, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Still jealous..Always wanted to see the Mayan ruins ... and go to Mexico...(Swap you a bed here for one there someday ;-) ) ☕ Antiqueight haver 22:12, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
We can sleep 6 extra folks at all times, 7 if you don't mind a hammock ;) We've done a bunch. Used to live in Belize so did Xunantunich, Cerros, Cahal Pech, etc. Here, Uxmal is probably my favorite, but Mayapan is spectacular because it still has some of the original paint. Dzibilchaltun is close too and it has a cenote with those little fish that eat dead skin. It is the cheapest best pedicure going. LOL
If I try I can sleep 6, but that's 2 doubles and 2 packaways...But I could loop in mum's place and that holds...7-9 depending on how friendly you can get +the packaways...I forsee a giant party.....
On another note. I fixed the refs. Page numbers for the pdf, dates on all of them. On websites, if there isn't a date, I use the current year and save them in wayback in case you ever need to retrieve a dead link. So...you should have the corrections they wanted done. Grand'mere Eugene can either approve the one you have when you tell her you've made the corrections, or you can do an ALT4 ... that after serving as a temporary secretary to George Bernard Shaw, Mabel McConnell Fitzgerald remained friends and correspondents with he and his wife? if you'd like. You'll need to ping Grand'mere and Yoninah to check the changes and any additional hook you propose. If you don't propose another, just tell them the changes are made and that either of the hooks proposed already are fine with you. (Personally, I don't like the one that doesn't give her name. Makes her seem not notable I would strike it <s> at the beginning of the text and </s> at the end will strike it, if you didn't already know that.) SusunW (talk) 22:47, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Meanwhile I think you are amazing. I didn't have the brain energy to deal with the changes over the last few weeks nor even today...(somehow writing articles is easier than fixing ones I already wrote). I didn't want to give up on it, but I couldn't face it. And you have no only made the changes but suggested a new hook too...I can not express thanks enough right now. ☕ Antiqueight haver 23:04, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
I just try to help where I can. Now that the stress of Women's Month is over and I am planning a trip to your side of the pond, I'm not pushing myself so hard. :) We're doing part of eastern Europe in a few months -- Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and then Berlin (because I was last there when the wall was still up) before going to see a dear, dear friend in Paris and heading home. And if you come, it will be a party. Tequila, Mexican chocolate, street dancing...who could ask for more? SusunW (talk) 23:18, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
I have managed Czech Republic and Hungary, though both truly only briefly and barely. Note, as far as they are concerned it's not Eastern Europe but Central Europe...they can be quite firm on that. And, considering Prague was once the centre of Europe, they have a good point. Pity you can't drop into a small island on the way...Closest I've been to your part of the world was a business trip to Costa Rica. Fabulous people and place..That is as close as I've been, which really isn't so very close at all.... Wave to Berlin for me, I hope to visit friends there (once they actually move there)... ☕ Antiqueight haver 23:37, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

DYK for Mabel McConnell Fitzgerald

On 13 May 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mabel McConnell Fitzgerald, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Mabel McConnell Fitzgerald. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Mabel McConnell Fitzgerald), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Revision of edit to Riley Tower page

Hi there, You recently undid my edit to the Riley Tower page. I'm quite confident that I was reverting previous vandalism as the edit in question was specific to that sentence, mentioned a person without a Wikipedia page, referenced a term that I cannot find anywhere, and had no citations. I wanted to talk with you before I added, at least, a citation needed tag to that sentence. As it stands now, the edit I reverted should either be tagged for unclear or citation needed or reverted again. Thanks. 128.211.196.13 (talk) 17:08, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

Deletion of Sarah Pearce

FYI, an article's author is allowed to request its deletion (as long as nothing substantive has been added by anyone else, i.e., as long as no one else has shown an active interest in keeping it). When the author blanks the article, or requests its deletion elsewhere (as she has done on the AFD page), it's considered to be equal to a WP:G7 tag having been placed on the page. (Though it was fine for you to restore the Afd tag.) Largoplazo (talk) 22:20, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks- @Largoplazo: I was struggling with my pc and looking for the speedy tag for the author request but it kept failing to save and then my pointer went nuts whih it has taken to doing recently. I thought it better to do it by a speedy but I was searching for the right tag and had to reboot a couple of times which kept screwing with my ability to be coherent. But anyway - it is good to have it confirmed that it's ok to leave it that way too. ☕ Antiqueight haver 22:27, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Janet O'Sullivan.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Janet O'Sullivan.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 18:16, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

@Sfan00 IMG: Thanks - I do have confirmation but not in a format I could upload at the time with the photo. I will ask the author to forward an email to the address. Can you confirm I should add the {{OTRS pending}} tag now or once the email has been sent? ☕ Antiqueight haver 19:46, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
As you are aware of the issue, I'll add the tag in good faith, don't forget to send in the confirmation though. :) Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:37, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
@Sfan00 IMG: Thanks - If anything prevents or delays the confirmation I will get another photo somehow. But it should be fine shortly. ☕ Antiqueight haver 09:54, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

 Question: Mary Charleson

It appears that you did not want to refer to her as a granddaughter of an actress. Why should that information be omitted?

  • Was the assertion that she was a granddaughter of an actress a piece of original research that you added by mistake?
  • If not, then why did you get rid of that genealogical specification? -- AI RPer (talk) 00:00, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

@AI RPer: One source indicated she was a granddaughter, another that she was a niece. I wasn't sure which was correct - while the dates would suggest niece, without knowing more, granddaughter is also always possible. So one piece was certain. She was related. ☕ Antiqueight haver 00:02, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

When adding the Ireland project banner to article talk pages I notice that you don't seem to bother filling in the class rating. Articles are rated by class at a project-wide rating, so you can comfortably inherit any existing class raring to banners you add, such as Talk:Ismania FitzRoy, Baroness Southampton. It just saves other assessors time and effort. Thanks. Good luck. ww2censor (talk) 06:49, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

BTW, seeing as you are writing so many Irish article, I hope you have been adding them to the Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge list. ww2censor (talk) 06:58, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

@Ww2censor: Less not bothering, more thought I wasn't supposed to rate my own articles - and no I forgot about the 10,000 challenge. I will go add them now. What do you mean inherit from the project wide - does that mean all articles in the women's history for example get the same initial rating? I can go back and assess my own articles if that is what I should be doing? ☕ Antiqueight haver 14:22, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
Wait - you mean if the women is start then the biography is start? Right - I think I understand. I suspect I accidentally rated some but not all of the most recent but I hadn't intended to rate any of them. Anyway - should I rate my own articles at all or not? I tend to use ORES to rate. ☕ Antiqueight haver 15:15, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
So, yes, to "inherit the class rating" from other projects is that if an article is already rated by some projects, you should use the same class rating for all other applicable projects. I'm not sure there is a rule or guideline against rating articles you created. A class rating is subjective rating while the importance rating, if you like, may be done by someone else if you feel you cannot be reasonably objective. If you rate way beyond an article's quality or importance I'm pretty sure someone from that project will eventually rerate it. That's just my opinion. ww2censor (talk) 22:06, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Thankyou both. Excellent work. I included Ireland because I'm rather fond of it myself and want to see improvement in coverage like the UK! Maureen O'Hara is an article I did! I've done a bit of work on Irish parishes myself and know just how much quality work is needed. I understand that politically it's difficult though. If you ever see "British Isles" just change it to UK and Ireland. I thought I was more careful on that. It was certainly the last thing on my mind! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:38, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: Mostly I was being obstreperous but I appreciate your thoughtfulness on it(I honestly do hate "the British isles" but I know it is globally more recognised for now). I also appreciate the inclusion in the 10,000 challenge. The only thing I'm not 100% certain of is what gets included in it..There is one article I wrote - the writer lives in the UK and Ireland but she is american. Do I add it? Do I only add articles written recently?? Is that the last month or the last week? ☕ Antiqueight haver 15:45, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

I do understand, but a lot of us in Wales have some sort of Irish ancestry anyway! It's just unfortunately mainland UK and Ireland tend to get called that when mentioned together. BTW if Smirkybec and some of the others begin to support it we can put up an announcement on Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland/WLM Ireland 2016 Writing Contest on the challenge page and try to get more editors doing articles for it. Living in UK/Ireland, a clear connection is fine for inclusion, keep up the great work :-) Add entries to the very bottom of the list though haha!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:49, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for all those new biographies of Irish women you've been writing in the last few days. I see you've being adding them to the WiR DYK list for October. I've removed them as there is no indication you have nominated them for DYK. New biographies should in fact be listed automatically under WiR Metrics for October although it sometimes takes a day or two for them to appear there. Sources

Hi. Thank you for creating the article on Bríd Dixon. Thanks to your linking of Henry's death cert, I was able to get his dates and details of his death for his article. Can I ask you about sources, though? How did you find out that she was his daughter? And where did you see that he sent her out of town the week before the Rising, and that her brother cycled out to give her her orders? This isn't a criticism of your article, by the way. I just want to find more information on Henry: there isn't a lot about him. Scolaire (talk) 16:46, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Scolaire I think some of it was in her military history file. Which I think is reference no 10. I know I came across it in a couple of places, that she was his daughter - someone else mentions it - I got to the point where I wasn't sure what was biographical and what were good stories. She's hard to track because she changes the spelling of her name repeatedly. And I think they weren't in the census much which made it hard to track them. But generally it looks like there is quite a bit about Henry mentioned in the various remembrances of the events in the military history files. It may be borderline OR. But I think with all the cross referencing backing up the details it counts as established fact. There were occasions where facts didn't initially seem to mesh (it being memories and all) but once I found corroboration in multiple stories I felt it was justifiable to add. I have read so many of these histories now I have to work to make sure I don't just add details that look interesting. But I probably do sometimes. And I know I leave stuff out because it does start to feel like OR and I'm not sure where the line is. ☕ Antiqueight haver 21:11, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
I managed to miss reference 10 altogether! It must have been because it was cited so late in the article, and I didn't register the name (it was misspelled as "Ni DhiBcin"). Yes, I can see that the whole story is there. It also verifies some information I found in a short newspaper article when Henry died, such as that he was interned in Ballykinlar in 1920 and that he was active in the Vincent de Paul. So thanks for all that. I also found the census returns: 1901 and 1911. As you say, the spelling changes a lot. Scolaire (talk) 08:27, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
Scolaire -cool. Yes, the name was a total nightmare - she has it spelled differently in 2 languages. I know there is more out there about her but it's really hard to sort through. I'm glad it was of use to you. I find the military history and Irish genealogy pages hugely useful. ☕ Antiqueight haver 20:10, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
You inspired me to totally rewrite the Henry Dixon article. I've finally put in all the Sinn Féin and 1916 stuff. Scolaire (talk) 21:34, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
Scolaire Wow - that is much longer than I saw it last. Yay for 1916 centennial additions!! ☕ Antiqueight haver 21:38, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

Possible DYK but could use input ->Gertrude Kelly

Please Ipigott, Yoninah, SusunW - I came across a woman I think is really interesting - I have lots of fixing to do on the article - I need to go to bed now - but... Would you give me a hand with creating a DYK for it? I must admit my last one got a little heavy going and put me off. But I rather think Gertrude Kelly is somewhat awesome. I was thinking of something on the lines of Did you know that Dr. Gertrude Kelly was an organiser of the first purely political strike in America? possibly with the additional , which united Black and Irish workers... Would you give it a glance and tell me what totally doesn't make sense - and if I need to do something about QPQ etc? Then I'll create the template and put it up for annihilation - but only if you think it works at all.. or has potential..Ping anyone you think could help? I'm asking you as you were the people who helped me before. But I know you all are probably very busy.. ☕ Antiqueight haver 06:52, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Informative article, well presented. Certainly good for DYK. Perhaps Yoninah can handle the mechanics. I've noticed there has been a substantial decrease recently on women's biographies on DYK so this should help.--Ipigott (talk) 09:04, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Nice read, Antiqueight, love that you have pulled her out of obscurity. Amazing woman. I find the irony of a playground being dedicated to an anarchist and strike organizer fascinating. It is always hard for me to figure out what DYK people will find interesting, though. As for the QPQ, you only have to do one if you have already done 5 DYKs. SusunW (talk) 15:28, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Ipigott, SusunW Oh thank you for your kind words about it - I was worried it wasn't understandable (partly because of the time of night) because there were so many different strands to her. I need to find good sources which add depth to her and perhaps some stories. But I'll go and start the DYK and see what other people have to say. Thank you ☕ Antiqueight haver 23:45, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

DYK nomination for Gertrude Kelly Something weird on the page, from my perspective anyway, it isn't appearing properly. Is there somewhere I should be listing this on a WiR page? ☕ Antiqueight haver 00:50, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Looks OK to me. Once it appears on the main page, you can list it under DYKs on WiR Showcase.--Ipigott (talk) 08:03, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
The weird appearance is gone - don't know what that was about - probably my computer being odd... Looks right now. Thanks for the input and help. ☕ Antiqueight haver 13:22, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
