This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks. The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus. Technical news Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}. When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [1] Arbitration Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee. I assume there are not funds for supporting Wikipedia editors to travel for the purpose of creating content. I'm glad so many editors find my work helpful to the encyclopedia, but I wouldn't even know where to begin asking for $ to work on topics like public art, etc. In the meantime, I will continue to create content about places I visit, whether the trip is WMF-funded or not. To be clear, I don't envision this as WMF paying for AB (or whomever) "to travel" (i.e. get to a given city), in that this would be piggybacked onto city visits AB is apparently already making for some mysterious reason we aren't privy to; WMF contribution would be to pay his additional costs while there -- admission fees, taxi/transit, maybe an additional night or two at a hotel -- and also to use its prestige to grease the wheels with local authorities -- putting him in touch with officials who have lists of landmarks and notable buildings/artworks, introduction to local historical societies who could provide a guide for a day, introductions to persons who control access to stuff not normally open to the public, that kind of thing. If these people also identify for him old pamphlets, newspaper clippings -- the kinds of obscure sources landmarks commissions, local libraries, and historical societies have, but which aren't readily available -- regarding the things photographed, these could be scanned (maybe by a hired intern, who would email them later) for use in article creation, and then you've got a dynamite return for a few hundred dollars. This may be a repeat ping, but I think Iridescent might be able to point us to where in the WMF maze we might go to get such an effort started. I personally wouldn't limit the WiT proposal, but expand it to include airfare, housing costs, etc., although some waver on insurance could be included. Doesn't harm anything to ask for the Moon and get a passing asteroid, but the logic of funding several proven individuals who would increase individual cities' art and historical legacy coverage on Wikipedia should be interesting not only for the WMF, but should intrigue potential non-promotional funding endowments by private individuals or non-advertised corporate entities (probably easily found within the cities or towns under consideration). "Wikimedian in Residence" is a term which has worked well in the past, but the name has never been the best fit. Staff positions, whether short or long term, are about converting money into communication impact and measuring the value of the same. There is some documentation and a lot of meeting notes at meta:Wikimedian in Residence (WREN). The "in residence" part is not important to the model; to me, the important part is producing and sharing media for education to meet some organization's own goals. Any organization doing online education with intent to achieve impact has a stake in Wikipedia's content. Many organizations that spend lots of money paying social media staff to post to Twitter and Facebook would have much greater impact at lower cost by integrating their information into Wikipedia, through a staff Wikipedian. If you want to integrate any ideas you have into the "Wikimedian in Residence" model then be my guest. If you need support from a community organization, then WREN is there to offer that network encouragement and public approval. I was initially thinking Another Believer could fly like a Wikipedian bird for a couple of months a year, mainly because I know of his productive work upon visiting a new city. But a week or a four day journey every now and then would fit this plan for him and for many other Wikipedians. A grant pool labeled 'Wikipedian in Transit' (I agree with EEng, the name works as a descriptor) can be used by proven productive applicants or awardees. Now all we need is to fill up the grant pool with euros and dollars and yen. I'm not good at raising money, not one of my talents. First step may be to combine the good ideas here into a short but detailed formal or informal proposal for the foundation, WREN, and private non-promotional donors and individual city participants (maybe let's use the link provided above to draft it or several versions of it) and eventually, when the plan reads well and feels right, sign on to it as a presentation. Do not use album art for singles

That is clearly the album art you have used on Evil Twin (Meghan Trainor song) (which is not even a notable song, so I don't know why you bothered even creating an article for it. The song achieved nothing). I am sure you have been around long enough on Wikipedia we do not upload album art twice, and we especially don't use that album art under a different name on the article for each single that doesn't have its own cover art. Yes, the album art is used for singles that don't have their own on streaming services—but that doesn't make it the single's cover art, so please don't restore it. Thank you. You can write "blah" in the summary and move this up into the other section I created here if you wish, but this is a separate topic. Notable album

An album is only notable when the whole album as significant coverage in multiple sources that are independent of the band. https://www.ccmmagazine.com/news/red-releases-3rd-single-sever-from-new-album-declaration/ is about the single, not the album and the tweet is from the band. As we get closer to the release date, we'll likely get coverage about the album itself. Until then, I suggest you use the {{refideas}} template on the article's talk page to post sources that you find and do not try to re-create the album article. Yes, content about the singles does belong in the album, but only after the album itself has enough sources to sustain an article about it it without discussion about the advance releases. A review or two will help with that, and if they invite a major source to the studio and the process is written-up. Still, I'm looking forward to the album... Bloating articles

This does not "archive links," but adds links to their clone at the Internet Archives, but I'm sure you know that. A few editors indiscriminately operate the bot without setting it properly, whereas others do it right so only deadlinks get "fixed". I see that you also add archive links to articles, but if you'll look at my last few edits, you'll see I reverted some truly humongous additions of unnecessary archive links. Not a single one was a deadlink.

Adding archive links where they are not needed adds lots of bloat and endangers the status of articles because they can be considered too large. Some editors then nominate them for deletion. It also makes them harder to edit. All that added code is just messy. Please set the bot to only do this to deadlinks. Proposed deletions

Hello there. I'm working through proposed deletions, and I've come across several where you've suggested the article could be replaced by a redirect or merge into another article. Might I suggest in the first case that you go ahead with the redirect first and resort to proposing deletion if you are reverted, and in the second case that you suggest a merge first (or boldly do it yourself if the case is clear-cut)?

It doesn't make much sense to me to soft delete an article and then replace it with a redirect. Likewise, if the article is a merge candidate the history should be retained anyway for copyright and attribution reasons. Furthermore, you can hardly expect a patrolling admin who is working through proposed deletions to perform merges. Just my 2 cents; if I've missed some reason why you're doing it this way please do let me know with a ping. Thanks. --kingboyk (talk) 12:29, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

No Time to Die (song) AFD

Hello again! I just wanted to say that I hope I did not come across as rude for the AFD for the No Time to Die (song) article. I was only going off the information that was available at the time and my perspective of WP:TOOSOON. On a more positive note, I am loving this song. It is a major improvement over "Writing's on the Wall", which is actually my least favorite Bond theme song. It actually makes me interested in the film even though I have for some reason lost my investment in the Bond franchise recently. Anyway, just wanted to clear the air with that. I remember making Ganja Burn as a redirect when it leaked with the video months before its official release and it was deleted as a "hoax" so I have been there before lol. WikiCup 2020 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2, with 57 contestants qualifying. We have abolished the groups this year, so to qualify for Round 3 you will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two contestants. Our top scorers in Round 1 were: Epicgenius, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with a featured article, five good articles and an assortment of other submissions, specialising on buildings and locations in New York, for a total of 895 points. Gog the Mild came next with 464 points, from a featured article, two good articles and a number of reviews, the main theme being naval warfare. Raymie was in third place with 419 points, garnered from one good article and an impressive 34 DYKs on radio and TV stations in the United States. Harrias came next at 414, with a featured article and three good articles, an English civil war battle specialist. CaptainEek was in fifth place with 405 points, mostly garnered from bringing Cactus wren to featured article status. The top ten contestants at the end of Round 1 all scored over 200 points; they also included L293D, Kingsif, Enwebb, Lee Vilenski and CAPTAIN MEDUSA. Seven of the top ten contestants in Round 1 are new to the WikiCup. These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. In Round 1 there were four featured articles, one featured list and two featured pictures, as well as around two hundred DYKs and twenty-seven ITNs. Between them, contestants completed 127 good article reviews, nearly a hundred more than the 43 good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Contestants also claimed for 40 featured article / featured list reviews, and most even remembered to mention their WikiCup participation in their reviews (a requirement). Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Commons category not specific to subject

Greets, You have been removing the commons category for the NRHP articles that are the category that any images of the subject would be properly categorized in. In some cases I haven't had the chance to look through the category on Commons to see if there is a photo for the article. I have found a number of photos for articles that were in these categories but hadn't been added to the articles. Also I haven't had a chance to finish looking for images for these articles. When I find them they will be placed into the categories I have been adding to the articles. Unless I find multiple pictures and create a category for the specific property the category you have called "not specific" is the most specific relevant category I can find. Even if a photo of the article subject isn't in the category the images provide context to the article's subject. Often photos of the historic district a property is part of are in the category. The nature of registered historic properties involves context and setting. A link to a category providing images of the most closely related historic buildings in the narrowest region the building is located in is well within P&G (as I understand). What if a category contains images of the subject but there is no category for the subject? I hope you at least look through the category to see if there are images of the subject. As deleting editor does it fall to you to find or create a more appropriate category? How do you respond to the context provided to a stub? Is the primary goal of a useful encyclopedia served by deleting content from articles which provide almost no information at all? Does it inhibit editors adding pictures of a subject to Commons and connecting them to articles if a new category needs to be added to link to the pictures from the article? The existing category system for NRHP is rather refined and specific. What is your response to the argument that this level of category means that the images in the category will be specifically related to the historical context providing notability for the subject of the article? I don't want to make edits that policy will require cleaning up. I don't want to lose a link I put into a stub that leads to an image or images that can be used for the article. I want readers and editors to get the most possible from stubs. Thanks for your help in this. Per WP:NTOUR, it states: Concert tours are probably notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. Such coverage might show notability in terms of artistic approach, financial success, relationship to audience, or other such terms. Sources that merely establish that a tour happened are not sufficient to demonstrate notability. Tours that cannot be sufficiently referenced in secondary sources should be covered in a section on the artist's page rather than creating a dedicated article. A tour that meets notability standards does not make all tours associated with that artist notable. Michael Jackson's 1988 Bad is an example of a notable concert tour. Guild of Copy Editors March 2020 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2019. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2020, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below. Election results: There was little changeover in the roster of Guild Coordinators, with Miniapolis stepping down with distinction as a coordinator emeritus while Jonesey95 returned as lead coordinator. The next election is scheduled for June 2020 and all Wikipedians in good standing may participate. January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work, completing 215 copy edits including 56 articles from the Requests page and 116 backlog articles from the target months of June to August 2019. At the conclusion of the drive there was a record low of 323 articles in the copy editing backlog. Of the 27 editors who signed up for the drive, 21 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. February Blitz: Of the 15 editors who signed up for this one-week blitz, 13 completed at least one copy edit. A total of 32 articles were copy edited, evenly split between the twin goals of requests and the oldest articles from the copy-editing backlog. Full results are here. March Drive: Currently underway, this event is targeting requests and backlog articles from September to November 2019. As of 18 March, the backlog stands at a record low of 253 articles and is expected to drop further as the drive progresses. Awards will be given to everyone who copyedits at least one article from the backlog. Help set a new record and sign up now! Progress report: As of 18 March, GOCE copyeditors have completed 161 requests in 2020 and there was a net reduction of 385 articles from the copy-editing backlog – a 60% decrease from the beginning of the year. Bare URL tags

Hi. I just noticed you edited Good to Know and placed a bare URLs tag in the references section; this is not the first time you have done this. MarnetteD, one of the users who tracks where bare URL tags are placed and fills them, has previously asked in an edit summary for users to place the tag at the top of the article and not in the references section, so users who do fill them out when articles are tagged do not have to scour the article for where the tag is. (Besides, the references section is not actually the section where references are placed most of the time, unless on the off-chance it's an article that uses list-defined references, so why you think the tag should go there I don't know.) Hello AB. Just to elaborate on this I know that the instructions for the tag used to mention putting them in the ref section but that was changed last year. Those of us who work fixing the bare urls have found our work goes more smoothly when they are at the top of the article. There are a few reasons for this (some of which are mentioned here Template talk:Bare URL inline but there are others as well) so if you can find your way to doing this it would be much appreciated. WikiProject Tree of Life Newsletter

I'm finally getting around to asking you about WP COVID-19 as suggested. Here are a few questions and maybe I'll have more later.

Please describe how you went about creating WikiProject COVID-19. What made you think a project was needed? What criteria did you use to determine that a separate WP was the way to go? Is this the first WikiProject you've been involved in creating? I've been following the outbreak and editing related Wikipedia articles since January. I'm not particularly interested in infectious diseases or viruses, but I've been to China a few times and wanted to monitor the outbreak's impact on society as well as the government's response. For a while, I was casually tracking updates to the first couple pages about the outbreak. Then a pattern began to emerge as February saw the creation of separate articles about outbreaks in Iran, Italy, and South Korea. New Wikipedia articles continued being created in early March, and the outbreak was recognized as a pandemic by the World Health Organization on March 11. Knowing there would many more articles, lists, templates, illustrations, and other pages on Wikipedia, I created WikiProject COVID-19 on March 15. My goal was simply to create a temporary or permanent space for editors to collaborate, communicate, and focus specifically on content related to this ongoing pandemic. I'm a member of many WikiProjects and have created several before, but this one definitely felt more necessary and urgent. Most WikiProjects unite editors with similar interests, which is fine and serves a purpose, but I felt this project could have a much bigger real life impact. I don't think I was alone in my thinking; approximately 80 editors joined the project by March 20. What can WP COVID-19 do that its parent projects (WikiProject Viruses, WikiProject Medicine, and WikiProject Disaster management) cannot or should not do? The purpose of WikiProject COVID-19 is simply to assemble editors who want to create and improve content related to the disease and ongoing pandemic. I want the group to accomplish as much as possible, regardless of the activities of related WikiProjects. Who or what was invaluable to getting off the ground? If I'm being honest, getting this project off the ground required little work on my part. All I did was create the space and post invitations to existing talk pages related to the outbreak. Editors joined the project very quickly; 30 members joined on the same day I started the project, and there were more than 50 participants one day later. I've been a daily Wikipedia editor for more than 12 years, and I've never seen so much interest in a project or content added to Wikipedia about a specific topic in such a short period of time. WikiProject members worked expeditiously to build a framework and hang a barnstar, tagging related pages, assessing content, and starting talk page discussions about the project's goals and scope. I'm thankful to the many editors who pitched in to get the project established, and I look forward to seeing how editors collaborate in this space as we move forward. What are the short-term goals of the project? No specific goals have been posted to the project page yet, but I'd like to think members share a collective desire to ensure Wikipedia has accurate and reliable information about the disease and pandemic. Disinformation and misinformation seem rampant these days, so we're working to give readers around the globe access to accurate, objective, and possibly even life-saving information. Unlike some WikiProjects which may take a more historical approach to documenting certain topics, WikiProject COVID-19 members have the ability to mitigate the disease's spread in real time by arming communities with facts about outbreaks in their region as well as information about prevention, testing, vaccine research, societal impact, etc. What are the long-term goals? English Wikipedia has many of 'lumpers' who think there are too many projects already. The project has also inspired the creation of two portals, which I imagine caused some raised eyebrows in this trend of portal deletionism. What will come of the WP after the current outbreak subsides? After creating WikiProject COVID-19, a couple editors said I should have created a task force instead of a standalone WikiProject. I wasn't bothered. The number of 'thank you' notifications I received for creating the page vastly outweighed these critical comments. I knew the page I created was much needed, and I would be fine if editors decide to call the page by another name. I understand some editors think there are too many WikiProjects. No one's required to join WikiProject COVID-19, but the 80 of us who have already joined invite you to help with our efforts, if you're interested. As for the project's future, I would be fine if editors decided to convert the WikiProject into a task force, or even put the project into retirement if the time comes. Given the level of interest and impact the pandemic has already had on a global scale, I have a feeling the WikiProject will be active for a long time. Another criticism of the project is it's narrow focus. It is focused on only one strain of virus, and the disease it causes. Even WikiProject AIDS is about two species of virus. Is the scope of the project to small? What would an expanded scope look like? Why would including another virus strain in the same species, Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus which causes SARS, not be wanted? or is it wanted? Narrow focus? I disagree. The project may focus on a single virus and disease, but the pandemic has resulted in the creation of hundreds of Wikipedia articles documenting outbreaks in most countries and territories. There are pages covering the pandemic's impact on aviation, cinema, education, politics, religion, sports, and television, not to mention others related to the resulting economic turmoil. Additionally, there are hundreds of templates, charts, and other graphics. Who knows how many thousands of images and other media will be uploaded at Wikimedia Commons by the time this pandemic subsides? There's also WikiProject COVID-19 at Wikidata, and I wouldn't be surprised if similar spaces are created for other Wikimedia projects soon. Even if the focus is narrow, there's plenty of content for Wikimedians to improve and protect. In your opinion, what should be the guidelines for creating a new project, as opposed to creating a task force or working under an existing WikiProject? I don't feel strongly about new project creation guidelines, or the differences between WikiProjects and task forces. Project members should decide what structure works for them and call themselves whatever name they prefer. I understand project construction requires maintenance and can come at an administrative cost, but we should be careful about discouraging editors from proposing new projects. Ideally, editors would only create a new WikiProject if at least a few others were committed to joining. I created WikiProject COVID-19 without conferring with others because I assumed the interest would be there. I encourage people to be bold and create project pages, but maybe ask a few other editors for feedback first. I'll let other editors worry about the guidelines. What tools (templates, bots, etc.) are essential, or even just really helpful, for organizing and maintaining a successful project? What is something every WP should do, that maybe isn't doing now? I appreciate the standard WikiProject assessment framework. AlexNewArtBot and Article alerts have also been very helpful. What have you learned about Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 or COVID-19 during this process that surprised you? I don't have any sort of medical background, and I'm more interested in the pandemic's impact than details about the disease or virus. Most surprising to me has been the lack of preparedness for combatting outbreaks by governments around the world, including here in the United States. I don't know how COVID-19's spread compares to other infectious diseases, but as I've watched the outbreak develop I've continually wondered why governments did not start preparing earlier. What was happening in China, Iran, Italy, and South Korea should have prompted action sooner. What important things about 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic do you think folks should know and maybe have missed in the deluge of information coming at people? 1. Know the most common symptoms: cough, fever, and difficulty breathing. 2. Learn what behavioral adjustments you should make to protect yourself and reduce transmission, and remember to wash your hands. 3. Get your information from reputable sources. I'd like to think Wikipedia editors are pretty good at this last bit of advice.

MIT articles

Hello, I noticed you reverted a number of edits I made on the MIT art and court pages, which are Aesop's Fables, II, Alchemist, Angola, Birth of the Muses, Elmo-MIT, Guennette, Invaders, La Grande Voile (The Big Sail), Transparent Horizon, TV Man or Five Piece Cube with Strange Hole, Two Indeterminate Lines, Hockfield Court, McDermott Court, Koch Biology Building‬ and Eastman Court‬. I disagree with these items having their own articles because they do not appear to meet the WP:Notability guidelines, in particular as having "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" as per WP:GNG. For example, I am unable to find third-party coverage on most of these art works describing why the art piece itself is particularly noteworthy, such as Invaders and Two Indeterminate Lines which is almost unmentioned except for being an entry in the MIT visual arts or culture now's catalog listing. The same goes for the courts: why is Eastman Court noteworthy of having its own article aside from having Adirondack chairs installed, or why is the Koch Biology Building itself notable other than the fact that it is where the Koch Institute is located? These art works and places, even though they may be seen or frequented by many people, should not just be WP:INHERENTly notable. I took the liberty to merge these articles into a common place as it seems that it would be difficult to develop them into articles longer than a few sentences with the amount of sources currently available. However, seeing that you disagree with this move and because you are the creator of most of these articles, I would like to know your thoughts on this and perhaps enlighten me on how the subject of these articles could be demonstrated to be notable. -- AquaDTRS (talk) 18:31, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi Another Believer. I was thinking of closing the move request but found the issue confusing. The discussion is at Talk:Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (Anahtar). The Anahtar name is of someone associated with creating the statue, but it is not the sculptor, who is named Hall. How would you feel about using the statue names that are now in Template:Atatürk monuments? I am unsure whether the statue described in Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (Embassy of Turkey, Washington, D.C.) is even worth an article. Our picture of it is from a distance and appears to be of low quality. An architect called Nurey Anahtar performed a kind of a site plan for the Sheridan Circle statue sculpted by Hall (according to reference 1) but she was not the sculptor. Would we use the site-planner's name to identify other statues in the list? The second of the two moves requested is Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (Embassy of Turkey, Washington, D.C.) → Statue of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (Hall, Washington, D.C.). But nobody is claiming that the statue in front of the Turkish Embassy is by Jeffrey Hall. What reason is there to attach Hall's name to the OLD statue? 'Embassy of Turkey' (without Hall) at least provides an accurate disambiguator for this statue. So the second article should not be moved, by this logic. If you find these points convincing, would you consider revising or adding to your original move proposal? Unless some revision occurs, the whole discussion will probably turn into a No Consensus and people will have to start over. The Editing team has been working on the talk pages project. The goal of the talk pages project is to help contributors communicate on wiki more easily. This project is the result of the Talk pages consultation 2019.

In a future update, the team plans to test a tool for easily linking to another user's name, a rich-text editing option, and other tools.

The team is building a new tool for replying to comments now. This early version can sign and indent comments automatically. Please test the new Reply tool.

• On 31 March 2020, the new reply tool was offered as a Beta Feature editors at four Wikipedias: Arabic, Dutch, French, and Hungarian. If your community also wants early access to the new tool, contact User:Whatamidoing (WMF).
• The team is planning some upcoming changes. Please review the proposed design and share your thoughts on the talk page. The team will test features such as:
  • an easy way to mention another editor ("pinging"),
  • a rich-text visual editing option, and
  • other features identified through user testing or recommended by editors.

Very little of the sources are actually about the plaza itself - most are brief mentions, and "Central Square" is far more prominent in the sources than "Barron Plaza". And again, what benefit is there in having a permastub that will never grow beyond a few short paragraphs, rather than having it be a well-integrated section of the Central Square article? Hi Another Believer. I was thinking of closing this discussion as Moved, but see that the discussion has already been reopened once before, apparently on a question of spelling of the subject's name. Do you think that the matter of spelling has now been settled, from your reading of the discussion? I notice that we already have Category:Monuments and memorials to Tadeusz Kościuszko, which follows the proper Polish spelling. It starts to get awkward if we spell the same guy two different ways in different parts of the encyclopedia. So it appears that the 'Thaddeus' has to go. There may be one other article with an inconsistent spelling: the one at Thaddeus Kosciuszko National Memorial but I suspect that this title can't be fixed by us. By way of List of public art in Boston

Just wanted to check in here to say that I churned through the updates to this page, and to mention.... whoever put it up first did it awhile back, so recent sculptures, notable or otherwise, have not been included. I did add the new Boston Harriet Tubman sculpture, and a few others I came across. But is there any automated way to... hunt down recent public artwork so it can be added?

On another note, I recently put up the bio of Hobart Reimann, who has the landmark article for viral pneumonia (1938). Yes, I see at least one of the sorting issues. I made the decision to sort by the specific of the title. Personally, I think WP has already run into an issue with their titles style. Calling something a Statue first, or even an equestrian statue first is a lot less sensible than it might seem. It's akin to sorting a list of professions by Doctor, Mister, Miss, etcetera. It's a funkier place in the English language than one imagines!

Or maybe you weren't thinking about that. In any case--I'm not committed to that level of the organization, and would be happy to put the work in to change it, if such needs to be done. (hey, I've taken it this far!)

On the other hand, I have been looking at other public art lists, and I do wonder... what are the most sensible columns to include? Also--what is the planned informational value of these pages? The Boston one is all permanent installation sculpture (with one or two oddball things, yes Army Nurses Memorial I'm thinking of you!). What's the history of these lists? Who made them, who approved them that all-powerful WP designation, Notable?

Were they something like a work page that got made public?

I'm not asking for immediate answers to these questions--I bumped into the Boston list after I had seen the Philadelphia one (which is sortable) and I could see the Philadelphia one was more useful. I also can see how limiting a list like this to installations that... are set to endure for more than a couple years has a point to it. On the other hand, the Boston list is notable for its highly conservative bent. As it stands, 90% (that's an approximation) of what's on that list looks like it could have been constructed prior to 1900!

@Sicklemoon: You might take a look at some of WikiProject Visual arts' Featured lists at Category:FL-Class visual arts articles to see those formats and standards. Also, I'd recommend asking for feedback at Wikipedia:WikiProject Sculpture if you'd like answers from more than just me. I'm sure editors there will be willing to help sometimes. To be honest, I haven't seen many stellar lists of public art in the U.S. You might take a look at the "Locations" section of Template:Public art in London to see some good examples of London lists.
