Speedy deletion nomination of If He Ain't Gonna Love You

Resolved

Hello Another Believer,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged If He Ain't Gonna Love You for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons. For more details please see the notice on the article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Devopam (talk) 17:54, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

@Devopam: Thanks for the heads up. I know I'm not supposed to remove the banner because I created the article, but I did not add the recent content and the community has already decided that the redirect is worth keeping (see Talk:If He Ain't Gonna Love You). Therefore, I restored the redirect since deletion of the page is not necessary. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:01, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

4th Annual GA Cup - Round 1

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup

Greetings, GA Cup competitors!

November 28, 2016 was supposed to mark the end of the first round. However, we needed 16 competitors to move on, and currently only 10 have completed articles. Thus, the judges have come together to let the participants decide what we shall do. Please complete this quick survey to let us know whether you would like a holiday break.

There will be two options for what we will do next in terms of Round 2 depending on the results of this poll.

  • If the survey indicates that the competitors want a break, we will have a 2nd round after the break ends with just the 10 competitors who have reviewed articles, starting in January (with a specific date TBA).
  • If the survey does not indicate that participants want a break, we will extend Round 1 until the end of December.

We apologize for sending out this newsletter late. Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase!

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Hey AB! I've renominated the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame with your encouragement. TRM left some comments on the review, two of them being the table and the reference. I'm not really good at table formats and unsure about how the references should work. If you have the time, could you help me out here? Erick (talk) 16:04, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Please AB, I really need the help. I can understand if you've been busy, but you haven't replied back. Erick (talk) 19:56, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
@Magiciandude: Sorry, I keep forgetting! I took care of the endashes, but I'm not exactly sure how to help re: scope/rows. I've asked TRM if he has a link providing an example of what he has in mind. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:05, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
That's understandable. Anyways, thanks again for you help! Let's get another bronze star for that Grammy task force! Erick (talk) 20:07, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the December 2016 GOCE newsletter. We had an October newsletter all set to go, but it looks like we never pushed the button to deliver it, so this one contains a few months of updates. We have been busy and successful!

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: Nominations are open for election of Coordinators for the first half of 2017. Please visit the election page to nominate yourself or another editor, and then return after December 15 to vote. Thanks for participating!

September Drive: The September drive was fruitful. We set out to remove July through October 2015 from our backlog (an ambitious 269 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of oldest articles to just 83. We reduced our overall backlog by 97 articles, even with new copyedit tags being added to articles every day. We also handled 75% of the remaining Requests from August 2016. Overall, 19 editors recorded copy edits to 233 articles (over 378,000 words).

October Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 October; the theme was Requests, since the backlog was getting a bit long. Of the 16 editors who signed up, 10 editors completed 29 requests. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

November Drive: The November drive was a record-breaker! We set out to remove September through December 2015 from our backlog (239 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of old articles to just 66, eliminating the two oldest months! We reduced our overall backlog by 523 articles, to a new record low of 1,414 articles, even with new tags being added to articles every day, which means we removed copy-editing tags from over 800 articles. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from October 2016. Officially, 14 editors recorded copy edits to 200 articles (over 312,000 words), but over 600 articles, usually quick fixes and short articles, were not recorded on the drive page.

Housekeeping note: we do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your Watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.

A tag has been placed on Category:2017 television episodes requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Should not be created until episodes have aired in 2017, which won't happen until next month.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Alex|The|Whovian? 03:16, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

@AlexTheWhovian: Thanks for the heads up, but there's no reason to delete a category that will just be recreated in a couple weeks. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:50, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Lola Baldwin

Resolved

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Lola Baldwin you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Lola Baldwin image

Resolved

I noticed that the Lola Baldwin image added by an unregistered user has been flagged as problematic. I thought I should tell you that I had seen this image long ago and decided that I could not be sure that it was first published after 1923 even though it was probably taken well before that. The unregistered user in question has a talk page that suggests to me that he or she is unlikely to have made the distinction between "created" and "first published". The copyright may very well belong to the Oregon Historical Society. I did not find a Baldwin image that was verifiably in the public domain, but that doesn't mean there isn't one somewhere. Thanks, by the way, for the nice holiday greeting you sent me. I wish you a happy holiday as well. Finetooth (talk) 18:20, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

@Finetooth: Thanks for the letting me know. I'll add a link to this section in the image discussion. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:57, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
I am so sorry that the image's rights issues could not be dealt with at this time. Another Believer, I still would suggest that you contact the oregonencyclopedia.org folks to see if they could be of some assistance. If the licensure could get straightened-out then it seems to me that the image could subsequently be restored to the article. Shearonink (talk) 22:30, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

Image instructions

To use a picture on Wikipedia, we need permission from whoever owns it.

  • If it is your OWN picture - then you can just upload it yourself, at "Commons", saying "It is entirely my own work" - at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Upload .
  • If it is NOT YOURS, then the owner can give permission in two ways;
A) They could put it on a website (flickr, or their own site) with an appropriate licence, such as "Public Domain" or "Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike" (that is an option in flickr)
B) They could email us permission. You could ask them to do that, by sending them an email saying something like:
"Hi, I've written a page on Wikipedia, and I'd really like to add a picture - but as Wikipedia is FREE, we can only use freely-licenced pictures. If you have any which you can give permission for, please send me an email back with the text below, and the picture(s) attached."
-Then add a copy of this: http://enwp.org/user:chzz/help/myboilerplate (having filled the form out)
-And send the email (attached picture file + completed form) to: permissions-commons@wikimedia.org

If any of your questions about how to insert images into an article aren't answered in these instructions, additional information is available at the following Wikipedia articles:
Help:Introduction to uploading images/1
Help:Files
Help:Contents/Images and media (for a master-listing of all pertinent image-use links).

Re: Lola Baldwin/File:Lola Baldwin Portland Police Bureau.jpg & the File discussion at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2016 December 5 - This is the contact link/form for Portland State University and the Oregon Historical Society: https://oregonencyclopedia.org/contact/ . If you want to remove the photo for the moment but continue to work on getting its rights/licensing issues ironed out so then the photo could be used within WP's pages then that's a possibility as well. Its just that the only WP article the photo is being used in right now is Lola Baldwin. It would be too bad for the photo to disappear from being used at all within Wikipedia, especially if the rights issue could be fixed. Shearonink (talk) 05:15, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

I was having trouble placing Lola Baldwin into "Culture, sociology, psychology" so have instead listed the article under World history/North American history where I found miscellaneous historical figures. WikiCup December newsletter: WikiCup 2017

On 1 January 2017, WikiCup 2017 (the 10th Annual WikiCup) will begin. This year we are trying something a little different – monetary prizes.

For the WC2017 the prizes will be as follows (amounts are based in US$ and will be awarded in the form of an online Amazon gift certificate):

  • First place – $200
  • Second & Third place – $50 each
  • Category prizes – $25 per category (which will be limited to FA, FL, FP, GA, and DYK for 2017). Winning a category prize does not require making it to the final round.

Note: Monetary prizes are a one-year experiment for 2017 and may or may not be continued in the future. In order to be eligible to receive any of the prizes above, the competing Wikipedia account must have a valid/active email address.

After two years as a WikiCup judge, Figureskatingfan is stepping down. We thank her for her contributions as a WikiCup judge. We are pleased to announce that our newest judge is two-time WikiCup champion Cwmhiraeth.

The judges for the 2017 WikiCup are Godot13 (talk · contribs · email), Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), and Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email).

Grammy-nominated albums

Hi, since you do a much better job creating real stubs rather than one-line articles after I redirect them, I'll probably continue to do that as I come across them should it seem appropriate. That single sentence can simply be merged to the artist article while providing more context for readers. Anyone can still take the redirect and expand the topic into more than a one-line article should they choose to do so. Thanks. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 00:08, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

@Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars: No worries. I dislike redirecting because I believe it decreases the likelihood another editor will expand the stub into a longer article, but I understand why you prefer merging. Having to drop what I'm working on to undo redirects can be distracting, but I appreciate your efforts. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:42, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Auditorium and Music Hall

Hello:

The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Auditorium and Music Hall has been completed.

This sentence - Described as "interspersed with other coloured stones to accentuate doorways and windows. Rectangular blocks with little ornaments other than the play of voids and solids across the surface project enormous power and a sense of timelessness."[3] - bothers me. "[L]ittle ornaments other than the play of voids..." doesn't make sense to me. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to contact Florence94 who may be the contributor of the quote to see if this can be clarified?

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Resolved

Hello, Another Believer. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Fantasea II: The Second Wave, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

@Sagecandor: I don't do GA/FA/FL reviews (I consider myself more of a content contributor than a reviewer), and I know it can be frustrating waiting for a review. I've waited months for reviews, but you are doing the right thing by offering comments and completing reviews, too. I wish I could give you a better time estimate, but really it just depends on which articles volunteers select based on their own interest and time. I wonder if you could post to a couple related WikiProject talk pages, saying you recently expanded the article and hope there may be some project members who are wiling to take a look and offer feedback or even conduct a review? Doesn't hurt to ask, but be careful to avoid canvassing. Good luck! ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:18, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
Okay I might try that after doing some more reviewing first, thank you ! Sagecandor (talk) 04:20, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

Notice of Neutral point of view noticeboard discussion

Resolved

Hello, Another Believer. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/Noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.

@Elinruby: I'm not sure which discussion might apply to me. Can you share any other info? ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:00, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
Sorry that was template-speak. Impeachment of Dilma Rousseff is the article; my specific issue with it is that this is essentially a BLP article, and there is much scroll about the charges against her, and only a sentence or two about her response. I am just doing due diligence for the posting, feel free to ignore if you like. You were pinged because (quite) a while back you said something on the talk page. I was considering not pinging anyone as there was no dispute in progress, but someone spoke up immediately and clearly is watching the page so I thought I had better ping anyone else that might care. Elinruby (talk) 23:08, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:20, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Editor of the Week seeking nominations (and a new facilitator)

The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.

The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?

Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today!

In addition, the WikiProject is seeking a new facilitator/coordinator to handle the logistics of the award. Please contact L235 if you are interested in helping with the logistics of running the award in any capacity. Remove your name from here to unsubscribe from further EotW-related messages. 4th GA Cup - Round 2

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup

Greetings, GA Cup competitors!

December 29th marked the end of the first round, after it was extended from its previously scheduled conclusion at the end of November. Because of the smaller pool of contestants this year, it was decided to keep sign-ups open throughout the month of December.

This extension proved to be very helpful as we saw that more users signed up and completed many reviews. Krishna Chaitanya Velaga earned an impressive 402 points, followed by Cartoon network freak with a close 338 points. Shearonink who signed up after our extension was in third with 170 points.

We had a rule clarification in Round 1 which was that many articles were being passed with blatant copyright violations and plagarism occurring in the articles. Thus, the judges have concluded that if an article is passed even if it has a copyright violation/plagarism, we will not provide points for that article as it wouldn't be considered a "complete review" under the scoring rules.

In the end, 94 articles were reviewed by 14 users who will all advance to Round 2. The judges had planned on having 16 contestants advance but since only 14 did, we are changing the pools in this round. We will be having 2 pools of 3 and 2 pools of 4 in Round 2, with the top 2 in each pool advancing to Round 3 as well as the top participant ("9th place") of all remaining competitors. Round 2 will begin on January 1 at 00:00:00 UTC and will end on January 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 2 and the pools can be found here.

Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion

Dead links in citations in This England (album)

Resolved

As if you don't have enough to deal with: I found some dead links in citations in This England (album). I noticed that references 17 (Philly Daily News) and 26 (CBC Radio) were dead. I didn't check them all. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:21, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

@Jonesey95: Wow, thank you very much for the heads up. These did not turn up as problematic by the automatic tools used to assess sourcing at GA/FA. I have archived both of these links, so accessibility and verification should no longer be problematic. As for the other ongoing discussions, I'm a bit surprised (interesting way to start the new year...), but we'll see how they turn out. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:33, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Both of them appeared to redirect to generic pages for the publications instead of reporting a proper "page not found" error, which the automated tools would have flagged. Bad practice by the sites' web managers, but we can't control everything. Sometimes a manual check is necessary, and better than you and I find it than a skeptical FA reviewer. Good luck with the other stuff. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:56, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
@Jonesey95: Definitely. And thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:58, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

@Jonesey95: I withdrew the nomination over sourcing concerns. I would think local coverage of a regional organization is needed for the article to be comprehensive, which I expressed on the nomination page, but maybe I'll try renominating another time after I've given more thought to sourcing. Thanks again for taking a look at the article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:32, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

The Trans List

In the process of adding to The Trans List I noticed that we seem to be working on it at the same time. Is there any easy way for us to communicate directly? Tfore (talk) 05:30, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

@Tfore: Ah, sorry for the edit conflict. I am done editing for now, so feel free to expand the article further. You can leave more notes here, if needed. Or, if you have more general questions about the article, feel free to post on the article's talk page. ---Another Believer (Talk) 05:32, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

@Another Believer:No real conflict. Your merge is probably a better way to present it. I'm playing with an infobox for it, but as a comparative newbie, I'd welcome some more experienced suggestions. It's currently on my sandbox page.Tfore (talk) 05:44, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

@Tfore: Your sandbox infobox looks pretty good. I would just make sure the contents are appropriately sourced and link the people who have Wikipedia articles. I'd welcome your edits to the article directly, and you can also reach out to Wikipedia:WikiProject Film and/or Wikipedia:WikiProject LGBT studies if you have content questions or want to invite others to contribute. Thanks for working on this article, and happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 06:01, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

Pushing the envelope

This might be pushing the envelope a bit but do you think petroglyphs are stone sculptures, i.e. Category:Stone sculptures in Washington (state)? I'm not sure really where the boundary between 2-d and 3-d sculpture lies. Same question also applies to Gateway which is a cut copper sheet; you can see it here. - Brianhe (talk) 22:09, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

@Brianhe: IMO, and according to Sculpture, sculptures are 3D. I wonder if Gateway is similar to Conduit (mural), which is not categorized as a sculpture. I would not mention or categorize a work as sculpture unless a reliable source refers to the work as such, or the work is very clearly a modeled 3D work of art. I hope this helps! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:13, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Sounds reasonable. I will re-categorize Gateway. - Brianhe (talk) 22:16, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Ultralight Beam

Although I wasn't able to complete the article due to time restrictions, this song should honestly have its own page. It's been the most played and talked about song from The Life of Pablo. I'm going to gather more information and sources and remake it, and I'd be more than grateful for any assistance, but just redirecting back to Pablo leaves out the particular influence on rap in just the past year, especially on the direction of Chance the Rapper's Coloring Book mixtape, as well as not leaving any room for information on the particular samples used of a young girl for the introduction, or mentioning that Kanye West released an extended version of the prayer from the end of the track as a separate song on Soundcloud. Ultralight Beam has repeatedly been included on "Top Songs of the Year" lists for 2016 and Chance's verse in particular garnered critical acclaim. With more time to feel out the details and to check sources, I believe the Ultralight Beam wiki page will be one of the most visited pages for this album and for the year 2016 in music. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Romesnerd (talkcontribs) 22:10, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

@Romesnerd: Thanks for writing. The song may be notable, but Wikipedia articles should prove this in the form of appropriate sourcing. Feel free to expand the article using sources that help illustrate notability. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:13, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

Requested articles?

Is there some way to transclude the template so our whole list of Cannabis redlinks also appears as a section somewhere in WP:Requested articles? Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney (talk) 22:53, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

@Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney: Yes, the page can be transcluded to another page, but I don't think WP:Requested articles is a place to single out any single list of red links about a particular subject. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:55, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

Possible GAN

On second thought, maybe OR-7 is a good candidate for GA. The lede needs some work and perhaps the organization as well. What do you think? Finetooth (talk) 02:38, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

@Finetooth: You know, I like this article a lot, and I think it's well written, but I have no idea if there are any content gaps. I don't know anything about the wolf apart from watching this article grow on my watchlist now and then. I don't really want to spend time researching content gaps and trying to put the journey together in my head, but if you feel confident about its completeness and would be willing to assist with content-related questions that may arise during a GA review, I'd be happy to nominate the article and work on more technical concerns that may need addressing. If you're not interested, no worries at all. ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:42, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
I'll keep tinkering with it off and on, and if I think it's in need of a good outside eye for non-content issues, I'll holler. It's not ready just yet. Thanks for your continued interest and for all of your work on this most marvelous of encyclopedias. Finetooth (talk) 17:39, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Sounds good. No worries, or rush! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:14, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Finetooth, the article is a good read overall, and I made some copy edits to it yesterday. It has some extraneous information that is not directly relevant to OR-7. I expect that possible WP:COATRACK information would be challenged in a GA review. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:39, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Jonesey95. Thanks, Jonesey. I saw your edits, which were helpful, and I agree about the coatrack problem. You'd be welcome to revise some more if it strikes your fancy, and submit it to GA as a co-author (co-nom), with my blessings. Finetooth (talk) 23:08, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
I plunged ahead with revising this biography of a living wolf and nominated the article this morning. Finetooth (talk) 18:34, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
@Finetooth: Fantastic! Thank you for your work on this article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:36, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Tiny Hands / Michael Whalen

I don't understand WaPo's comment [3] that it was released "with" Michael Whalen. Was he the producer? Composer?? - Brianhe (talk) 17:22, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

@Brianhe: Yes, he produced the track, as mentioned in the Wikipedia article's prose. It was released on 'his' SoundCloud page. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:23, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
Oh, derp. I must have misspelled his name when I searched for him in the article. In a hurry. - Brianhe (talk) 17:31, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
@Brianhe: No worries. The prose may need to be updated to note Whalen's strong involvement (perhaps even noted as "Whalen featuring Fiona Apple"), but I was just going with wording used in the first source I was reading. I've posted many more sources on the talk page, and hope to continue working on the article as I have time. Thanks for taking a peek! ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:32, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

Came back with this update. Women's March on Washington has been moved to 2017 Women's March as an umbrella for all the marches per requested move. So maybe Women's March in Portland / in Seattle makes sense as a subtopic. I don't know. It's not what it was actually called by the organizers, so that bugs me. - Brianhe (talk) 14:49, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
@Brianhe: Hmm, "Women's March in Portland" really bugs me, too. We should go with the official title of the event, which is also seen in press coverage. I just logged in and saw your message and the page move, so I'll have to find where decisions were made to move pages. I'd prefer the Portland page moved back to its original title. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:54, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
@Brianhe: I moved the Portland article back, per sourcing, and maintain that's the correct article title until someone can prove otherwise. The women's march articles have become quite a mess, unfortunately. I think there should be a parent article about the global movement, with separate articles for specific events (including Washington, D.C.) when sourcing justifies standalone articles. I'm going to let other editors stress over the other articles, though, and I'll continue focusing on the Portland event for the time being. My goal is to get the article promoted to Good status, and eventually FA status, hopefully. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:22, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
Good luck with the GA/FA. I moved the Seattle article back. Then it was moved again by a third party to Womxn's March on Seattle (whew). The first mover initiated a discussion: Talk:Womxn's March on Seattle#Title – maybe you'd like to comment? - Brianhe (talk) 18:26, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Checking In

Hey Another Believer! It seems A Thousand Doors has raised some concerns at my FL candidate and I was wondering if you could help me out with it. I really won't be editing Wikipedia much this week as I'm extremely busy with school. Anyways, please disregard this message if you're busy; I don't mean to bother you. Thanks and regards, Carbrera (talk) 00:23, 25 January 2017 (UTC).

Request/Favor

Hi Believer (or maybe you prefer Jason :P). First of all, I would like to thank you about taking care of "Love on the Brain" and requesting a c/e of it. Appreciate it! I nominated "Don't Stop the Music" for a featured article. Last nomination failed because of inactivity, so I would really appreciate If you have time to post some comments on current one. Cheers! — Tom(T2ME) 13:15, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

John F. Kennedy International Airport protest

Resolved

Hi Another Believer. Do you mind if I move the John F. Kennedy International Airport protest article that you created to 2017 John F. Kennedy International Airport protest? Per WP:NCEVENTS, articles about events typically have the year in the title, even if there isn't another event with the same name, since it useful for identification. Thanks, Mz7 (talk) 00:54, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

@Mz7: I don't mind at all. I went ahead and moved the page, actually. Thanks for the note. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:15, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
Ah excellent. Thanks! Mz7 (talk) 03:24, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi Another Believer! I wanted to seek your guidance and suggestions regarding two articles I've recently worked on: List of tallest buildings in Tysons, Virginia and Valley View (Romney, West Virginia). I recently overhauled the Tysons article with available building information, and I will try to head out there soon to photograph more of the high-rise buildings. Since you're a D.C. area editor, I thought you would be interested in taking a look at this one! As for Valley View, I wanted to see if you had any suggestions for the flow and content of the background illustrating the Northern Neck Proprietary. A retired editor had previously suggested that I elaborate further in this section, so I wanted to get your take on it given your beautifully-written histories. Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions on all the above. -- West Virginian (talk) 22:58, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) A note on the Valley View article: the short citations "Coleman 1951" and "Rose 1976" do not link to full citations. They may be somewhere in the article's history, or they may have been copied from another article without their accompanying full citations. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:37, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
Jonesey95, thank you so much for the catch. I had neglected to add those two sources below after citing them. Please also feel free to let me know if you have any suggestions or find any other errors. -- West Virginian (talk) 01:51, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

The Parish copyedit

Before I begin the copyedit, I noticed that "The" is capitalized throughout; however, according to MOS:THECAPS I don't think it should be but I wanted to see what you thought before I begin. All the best, Miniapolis 00:15, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

@Miniapolis: Thanks for taking on this article. I just assumed "The" was appropriate because "The" is officially part of the name and how it appears in secondary coverage, but I'm less familiar with these sorts of rules and I'm open to what you think is best. ---Another Believer (Talk) 06:32, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

4th GA Cup - Round 3

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016 GA Cup - Round 3

Hello, GA Cup competitors!

Sunday saw the end of Round 2. Shearonink took out Round 2 with an amazing score of 499. In second place, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga earned an astounding 236 points, and in third place, Cartoon network freak received 136 points. Originally, we had plans for one wild card for 9th place, however it appears that both Chris troutman and J Milburn were tied for 9th place. Therefore, we have decided to have both advance to Round 3.

In Round 2, 91 reviews were completed! At the beginning of this GA Cup, the longest wait was over 7 months; at the end of Round 2, the longest wait had decreased to a little over 6 months. It's clear that we continue to make a difference at GAN and throughout Wikipedia, something we should all be proud of. Thanks to all our competitors for helping to make the GA Cup a continued success, and for your part in helping other editors improve articles. We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in Round 3 so we can keep decreasing the backlog.

To qualify for the third round, contestants had to earn the two highest scores in each of the four pools in Round 2; plus, one wildcard. For Round 3, users were placed in 3 random pools of 3. To qualify for the Final of the 3rd Annual GA Cup, the top user in each pool will progress, and there will also be one wildcard. This means that the participant who comes in 4th place (all pools combined) will also move on. Round 3 has already started and will end on February 26 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 3 and the pools can be found here.

Also, we'd like to announce the departure of judge Zwerg Nase. We thank him for all his hardwork and hope to see him back in the future.

Good luck and have fun!

Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, and MrWooHoo.

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Unwise

this was unwise. Please self-revert and allow an independent admin to judge. Please take this request seriously, thanks.. Jytdog (talk) 03:23, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

I'm not self-reverting, but I'm fine with moving the article based on the ongoing discussion about the article on the 420 Collaboration talk page. ---Another Believer (Talk) 06:04, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi There. I could not help but notice several subcategories of this category, namely, Category:Articles created or improved during 420 Collaboration 2017, Category:Categories created during 420 Collaboration 2017, and Category:Templates created during 420 Collaboration 2017. My concerns are two-fold: First, these categories are empty, and by design will not be populated until at least April 15th - over two months away. In the meantime they are cluttering up Wikipedia:Database reports/Empty categories and are currently subject to deletion per WP:CSD#C1. Categories like this should not be created until they are expected to be populated as to minimize cleanup clutter. The second issue I have with these categories is, as far as I know, it is entirely inappropriate to be categorizing any pages within categories for which a singular event to improve them took place. This sounds like it would be far more suited to a list than a category - it does not seem like it would benefit Wikipedia for, say a year from now, someone were to look through these categories for any reason that could be reasonably expected to improve the encyclopedia. Thoughts? VegaDark (talk) 18:31, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

@VegaDark: Hmm, ok. I'll populate the categories with an arbitrary page so they are not deleted for being empty, and then I don't have to recreate them. Many online collaborations tag new and improved articles with similar project banners. I'd like to keep all three subcategories for tracking the campaign's content improvements. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:04, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
Can you give another example of a one-time collaboration category like this? Wikiproject categories are ongoing collaborations, the "2017" in the name for these implies this is a one-time thing with no collaborative use after the event is over. VegaDark (talk) 20:31, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
@VegaDark: Well, actually, my hope is to make the 420 collaboration an annual campaign, similar to Art+Feminism or Wiki Loves Pride. See Category:ArtAndFeminism or Category:Wiki Loves Pride to see how these templates and categories are used to track content improvement annually. The "Wiki Culture Crawl" is a current example of a one-time-use template (Template:Wiki Culture Crawl 2016), though WikiConference North America is being held in San Diego again later this year, so there's a chance the "crawl" will be replicated, in which case a similar template will be created specific to 2017. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:36, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

WikiProject Genealogy - newsletter No.1

Newsletter Nr 1 for WikiProject Genealogy (and Wikimedia genealogy project on Meta)

Participation:

This is the very first newsletter sent by mass mail to members in Wikipedia:WikiProject Genealogy, to everyone who voted a support for establishing a potential Wikimedia genealogy project on meta, and anyone who during the years showed an interest in genealogy on talk pages and likewise.

(To discontinue receiving Project Genealogy newsletters, see below)

Progress report:

Since the Projects very first edit 9 december 2002 by User:Dan Koehl, which eventually became the WikiProject Genealogy, different templates were developed, and the portal Portal:Genealogy was founded by User:Michael A. White in 2008. Over the years a number of articles has been written, with more or less association to genealogy. And, very exciting, there is a proposal made on Meta by User:Another Believer to found a new Wikimedia Genealogy Project, read more at Meta; Wikimedia genealogy project where you also can support the creation with your vote, in case you havnt done so already.

Future:

The future of the Genealogy project on the English Wikipedia, and a potential creation of a new Wikimedia Genealogy Project, is something where you can make a an input.

You can

Cheers from your WikiProject Genealogy founder and coordinator Dan Koehl

New cannabis articles

I'm overall trying to avoid major redlinks that are likely to be filled, but I figure nobody is going to be falling over themselves to create Cannabis in Montserrat, so I'm taking out the unlikely ones. I'll keep my eye out for more redlinks to replace them. Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney (talk) 03:08, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

@Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney: Hah, sounds good! I was on the fence about whether or not these were the type of articles to leave on the list of missing articles, because they are a bit more accessible than some others, but honestly it doesn't matter when articles are created as long as Wikipedia is being improved. I'm trying to come up with missing articles for the list, too, but don't feel you need to hold off article creation just because of the upcoming campaign. You do you! ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:13, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
I'll leave the easy ones, but I did knock out Cannabis in the Cook Islands over a few beers this evening. I was at a cannabis lobbying event in Texas this week, and ran across a writer for The Cannabist, and he said definitely to ping them through their "suggest a story" link as our Collab approaches. Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney (talk) 05:36, 10 February 2017 (UTC)
@Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney: Hey, awesome! Thanks for the update. ---Another Believer (Talk) 05:44, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Genealogy

You're clearly far too busy on improving WMF projects to be sure to notice a query here! But just in case: I noticed your numerous contributions to the discussions on Meta about a possible WMF genealogy project. The list of supporters and opponents etc seems to have been growing slowly for several years with no result.

Meanwhile I keep an eye on that discussion while continuing to add to Wikia:Familypedia, where I have made a mere 50,000 edits while one keen Australian has made over 300,000 (and his bot made a few too). Familypedia seems to fit well with the suggestions made by the aforementioned "supporters" and to meet many of the objections by opponents. It does encourage citation of sources but not rigidly. Its semantic extensions have a similar effect to what is done on WikiData, but the host (now calling itself "Fandom powered by Wikia") is reluctant to give it full semantic-software support and cut back the attempt to be fully multilingual. They don't realise that a single individual can have hundreds of semantic properties, such as "county where first married" or "mother's age at birth"!

Do you contribute to any free public genealogy sites?

Kind regards. Robin Patterson (talk) 04:22, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

@Robin Patterson: Thanks for writing! I hope you will contribute to, and continue to monitor, the Wikimedia genealogy page on Meta. I'm afraid I'd only contribute to a WMF-backed genealogy project. I feel too committed to the Wikimedia movement and its mission to spend much of my time and energy elsewhere. I think there's a strong need for the movement to host a genealogy project, so I'll wait and see if one ever comes to fruition. ---Another Believer (Talk) 05:03, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

Paris Theatre

hey. i see you created the paris theatre wiki! i honestly don't know what im doing, but i need to update the page. the theatre is no longer a porn theatre, but is indeed, a music venus/nightclub. here is the new website and here is an article about the ownership change: http://www.wweek.com/bars/2016/06/15/paris-theatre-pornhouse-and-sex-club-will-become-new-live-venue-and-nightclub/ - can you help me make these changes? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emmamame (talkcontribs) 23:50, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

Paris Theatre edits

Hey! I see you keep reverting my edits. I work for the theatre and I need the first info to be about its new avenue. The stuff about the porn theater can go in history. It isn't also known as "Rays Theatre" anymore. Please stop reverting that change! I am just trying to make it accurate for the new buisness's sake. Not trying to rewrite history.

Whose Knowledge? News - February 2017

Thanks for all of your support for Whose Knowledge? so far! Get ready, we're going to need lots of your help in 2017 :)

What's new in 2017:

1. Volunteers needed

As Whose Knowledge? grows, there are lots of things to do! Can you help?

  • Are you good with data entry, categories, mailing lists or social media? We especially need people to help with organizing knowledge for Dalit History Month, and building out our communications (including this monthly newsletter!) right now!
  • If you're interested in volunteering for these or any other projects, please signup here

2. Pilot projects

Building partnerships and testing our approach with marginalized communities.

  • Dalit History Month: We're working with Equality Labs to support Dalit communities in South Asia and the United States to map knowledge and create Wikipedia content. Dalit History Month edit-a-thons are coming in April!
  • Women's Human Rights Defenders: In partnership with Urgent Action Fund, we'll be supporting a group of women's human rights defenders around the world with more mapping and wiki content creation. Themes and geographies coming soon!
  • Kumeyaay Wikipedia Initiative: Following the 2016 Indigenous People's Day edit-a-thon, we're continuing to work with members of the Kumeyaay tribe in Southern California and Baja to map and contribute indigenous knowledge to Wikimedia projects. A discussion day with Kumeyaay community in San Diego is being planned for May.

3. Funding

We've got financial support for 2017!

  • WMF grant: 6-month funding (February-July 2017) was approved to pilot our approach to mapping knowledge and creating Wikipedia content with the Dalit community and global women's human rights defenders. Thanks for all your endorsements!
  • Shuttleworth Fellowship: Anasuya is a Shuttleworth Fellow! This means we'll be able to spend more time organizing, and have support for convenings, campaign infrastructure, etc.

4. Wikimedia Strategy

Find us at Wikimedia Conference.

  • Anasuya and Siko will be carrying the Whose Knowledge? vision of diversity, pluralism and representation of marginalized communities into movement strategy conversations in Berlin March 2017.
  • What's your vision for the Wikimedia movement? If you have a perspective that you'd like us to help represent in Berlin, please reach out and let us know!

In solidarity,

Watching Joanne

Another Believer, could you please help keep a watch on the Joanne album article? It's getting original research insertions (namely the addition of "John Wayne" as a single when in fact this hasn't been confirmed to go beyond video release) from auto-confirmed users, so I've requested extended confirmation protection, but can't handle the article alone. Redirects

Not that I really think you need to be told this as you should know, but even if you're creating a tonne of redirects, please check to see if there are not disambiguation or even song pages of the same name. Half the redirects you created earlier would fall under the category of incomplete disambiguation, because if no song of that name has an article, the Rufus Wainwright song should not be presumed to be the most important. Ss112 05:15, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Also, I just want to let you know: I don't appreciate you looking at my edits so you can find material to create a bunch of redirects for. I mean, I look at your edits once because you edited Future (Future album) and I find that you've clearly been looking at what I'm doing, creating redirects to What So Not Flume, CeCe Winans and Quiet Riot, all topics I have edited in the past day. This is just completely strange. The past few times I've brought up a disagreement with you, you say you have "better things to be doing" on Wikipedia; well...? Ss112 05:48, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
@Ss112: I think you're overthinking my edits, truly. I happened to see your name in my watchlist, clicked on the 'contribs' link next to your name, and added WikiProject Album and WikiProject Songs to some of the pages you created, which were easily identifiable by the "N" (according to the legend, this letter represents a new page creation). I'm not following your edits or creating redirects based on your edits. I did see your above message, but disregarded it because I am going to continue creating redirects whenever and however I feel they are appropriate. I don't think my behavior is strange -- I am just creating redirects for albums and songs like I've been doing for years. I'm sorry if you feel this is somehow tiptoeing on your work. I assume we both watch List of 2017 albums, so that may be why we review updates and create related redirects. I promise I'm not basing any of my contributions on your work. I definitely appreciate your edits to Wikipedia, and I am amazed at the number of edits you make each day, but apart from this admiration, I don't follow your specific edits, I just see overlap now and then because we both do music redirects. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:32, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Classic Country Christmas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article has never existed, has been deleted or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.

December blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 11 through 17 December; the themes were Requests and eliminating the November 2015 backlog. Of the 14 editors who signed up, nine editors completed 29 articles. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all who took part.

January drive: The January drive was a great success. We set out to remove December 2015 and January and February 2016 from our backlog (195 articles), and by 22 January we had cleared those and had to add a third month (March 2016). At the end of the month we had almost cleared out that last month as well, for a total of 180 old articles removed from the backlog! We reduced our overall backlog by 337 articles, to a low of 1,465 articles, our second-lowest month-end total ever. We also handled all of the remaining requests from December 2016. Officially, 19 editors recorded 337 copy edits (over 679,000 words).

February blitz: The one-week February blitz, focusing on the remaining March 2016 backlog and January 2017 requests, ran from 12 to 18 February. Seven editors reduced the total in those two backlog segments from 32 to 10 articles, leaving us in good shape going in to the March drive.

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: In December, coordinators for the first half of 2017 were elected. Jonesey95 stepped aside as lead coordinator, remaining as coordinator and allowing Miniapolis to be the lead, and Tdslk and Corinne returned as coordinators. Thanks to all who participated!

Speaking of coordinators, congratulations to Jonesey95 on their well-deserved induction into the Guild of Copy Editors Hall of Fame. The plaque reads: "For dedicated service as lead coordinator (2014, 1 July – 31 December 2015 and all of 2016) and coordinator (1 January – 30 June 2015 and 1 January – 30 June 2017); exceptional template-creation work (considerably streamlining project administration), and their emphasis on keeping the GOCE a drama-free zone."

Housekeeping note: We do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Miniapolis, Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.

To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

Hotcat FYI

I don't know if you know but you can add multiple categories at once. Instead of clicking 'ok' after every one, you can keep clicking the + symbol and then to the left of the category bar, click save :-)--Jennica / talk 15:35, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

@Jennica: Thanks for the reminder! I did know this, but seem to always forget. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:04, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

Oregon Encyclopedia‎

Thank you for your work on the Oregon Encyclopedia‎ redlist; much appreciated. --Tagishsimon (talk) 17:26, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

@Tagishsimon: No prob! Thanks for putting the page together. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:40, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

Proposed historic districts

I added Eastmoreland to the Oregon historic districts. There's a precedent with King Plow/Railroad Historic District in Atlanta for something that is a proposed historic district. Although I wouldn't mind making a new category for such proposals, either. - Brianhe (talk) 18:19, 24 February 2017 (UTC)

@Brianhe: Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:20, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
Other possibilities if a new category is created include Irvington Historic District (Portland, Oregon) and Chicago Park Boulevard System Historic District. - Brianhe (talk) 18:31, 24 February 2017 (UTC)

McGovern Gardens and Sculpture Gardens

Thanks for giving me these requests! I'm in Shenzhen right now but will be back in Houston in July of this year! WhisperToMe (talk) 01:34, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

@WhisperToMe: No worries! If you get around to taking pics at some point, that would be great! ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:39, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
Ahh... If I had known that those needed photos I would have gotten them in late January-early February. When I'm in Houston I'm very close to the sculpture gardens! WhisperToMe (talk) 13:46, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
