Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

Luton listed buildings

Hi Andrew, it appears to be correct. I think this is down to how English Heritage classify Luton vs Central Bedfordshire. Most of the buildings in the area are classified as CB except those in a small area centred on Luton. Looking at the visulisation on [1] doesn't appear to contradict our lists. -- KTC (talk) 12:53, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

Makes sense. Luton is not the most architecturally famous town, of course :-) Andrew Gray (talk) 11:39, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Aberdeenshire listed buildings

Hi Andrew, thank you for sorting out some of the category A building images I uploaded. I'm sorry to have given you extra work.... I don't really know much about how to work correctly with categories/commons - nor am I particularly great at taking photos - but hope I can learn by my mistakes! It looks as if I should create a category for any batches of images and then include the category 'batch' name under the 'commonscat' parameter of its listing?

I have been trying to get a photo of this sun dial but it's now on land owned by developers and despite promises to the local community, it's still locked up tight. I did find a line drawing of it published in 1900 so that would at least be an image of some kind but does that count?

Sorry about all the questions! SagaciousPhil - Chat 08:27, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Phil! They're lovely images - I've actually been sitting in the south of England sorting these and feeling a bit homesick for the north :-). It's particularly useful to have complete sets rather than one shot from one angle, so thanks for those.
If you're going to be uploading a set to commons, creating a category for them is fairly straightforward (if one doesn't already exist) - remember to include the standard parent categories, like "Category A listed buildings in Aberdeenshire" and the town name. You can do this before the upload, even - then just stick the new category name in the form, and you'll be all set.
For the sundial, I think the line drawing would indeed be the best bet (blast those developers) but it wouldn't sadly be eligible for the WLM contest, which is original work only. Andrew Gray (talk) 12:18, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply! I've just uploaded Cairness House lodges and gates, so had a go at making a category for Cairness House on commons as well. Fingers crossed I've now sussed the correct procedures. If the weather holds up until Sunday, I'll then try for Pitmedden Gardens. SagaciousPhil - Chat 12:25, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Looks like you've added the category but not created it! If you follow the red category link from one of the Commons images you'll come to this page, and can add the parent categories (Category A listed buildings in Aberdeenshire, historic houses in Aberdeenshire, etc) to it. Andrew Gray (talk) 12:30, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! SagaciousPhil - Chat 12:44, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments -- Edinburgh

Hi, I see you have contributed much to List of Category A listed buildings in Edinburgh. Having recently taken up the challenge of WLM I am adding photos to this page. I wanted to check if you had other photos in the pipeline or buildings you intended to photograph? I ask as I do not wish to create duplicates.

Also, I have been taking a set of photos of the buildings - many aspects, etc. The above page only offers a thumbnail and link to a single image. I had a notion to add links to the Listed Buildings table to additional images. Eoinho (talk) 22:48, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Eoinho. Most of these aren't mine - I've just been cleaning up the lists and adding new files as they come in. Some responses:
a) I have a few I will probably dig out from old photographs later on, but at the moment I'm in Cambridge and not going to be doing much Edinburgh photography in the near future :-) So the city's your oyster!
b) The templates currently only support one image per row, but if you fill out the "commonscat = " field in the templates (most have it as blank), then you can link to a category on Commons for that building with other photographs - it'll show up underneath the main photograph as "See more images". Having multiple images is great and definitely encouraged, and the categories on Commons are the best way to tie them together - you can see some examples for Edinburgh here
c) And, of course, feel free to change the existing image on the Wikipedia lists if you think there's a better alternative, either aesthetically or visually more representative.
Hope that helps, Andrew Gray (talk) 23:09, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Yes, very helpful thank you. I will add commoncat where appropriate and also get snapping! Eoinho (talk) 23:46, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Given your interest in contributing to the main page scheduling discussions, I feel it is appropriate to inform you that you have supported a 2-point article for September 28th and now a 5-point article has been nominated for the same date at WP:TFAR.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 07:53, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help.
