Re: Indigenous articles[edit]

I've just been reading your two new articles (Batman Treaty and Myall Creek massacre), and I have to say - they're the best new articles I've read in a while. Kudos. :) Ambi 15:09, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Jaxl's RFA[edit]

Ambi, you voted support, stating that it was a protest of my opposition. For what it's worth, I have now changed my vote to neutral, which is something I had intended to do after reading Jaxl's last response to me, but hadn't yet gotten around to it because I wanted to write a response to that response, etc. and had been too busy at the time to do so.

So anyway, feel free to protest my neutral all you want. Dragons flight 16:51, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

In connection with your recent edits, please take a look at Template talk:Db-nonsense#Negative examples and consider reverting or revising your recnet changes. At least please share on the talk page the reason given on IRC for this change. DES (talk) 17:04, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you keep reverting Serd's infobox? It's not useless, it's the standard template. freestylefrappe 19:38, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ye,

Listen Ambi, the infobox is created for fill the info inside, but not for remove it. All the Moldovan cities have this infobox. Please, not remove it any longer. Thanks for your comprehension.

You stated on my talk page, "it looks absolutely terrible,", "blank spaces look horrible." These complaints center around the cosmetic acpect of the template, which is irrelevant. freestylefrappe 17:32, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wai Hong[edit]

hi Ambi, why did you keep reverting other's contributions to the article,Shepparton, Victoria?

The article will not develop if you keep deleting other's contributions.

If you think that others' contributions are not relevant, why don't you conduct an indepth research on Shepparton before deleting others' contributions.

If you do not wish to do so, please stop deleting things.

User:Wai Hong 2 October 2005

I am well aware of my own grammar and punctuation. They are not as horrible as you mentioned. Stop being so proud of yourself and stop commenting about others' grammar and punctuation just because English is your first language.

Besides,I wrote about other topics regarding Shepparton too.You deleted them anyway.

I think that you just don't like people editing articles which you wrote.Create your own encyclopedia, then!!

If you did not understand anything from the shepparton article, your English is not as good anyway. That article was based on a formal leaflet produced by the university.

I find your act of searching through all the articles that I have made contributions to. I can sense a lack of trust in you-Wai Hong-3 October 2005

Dear Ambi, If you wish to be the editor of every sentence that I wrote on Wikipedia,go ahead.I have no problem with that as long as you do not delete important things. I do strive to produce quality writings ,in contrary to your belief.

New Zealand political lists[edit]

By "political lists", I assume you're talking about things like List of members of the Australian Senate and 46th New Zealand Parliament. To start with, there's a bit of trouble in that there are many different styles applied to the New Zealand lists, as I've changed my mind a lot over time. (Mostly attepting to make things more like what I see other people doing, although not always successfully.) The newest lists are ones like 19th New Zealand Parliament and 48th New Zealand Parliament, and eventually, I hope to have most other New Zealand lists looking much the same.

What, in particular, do you suggest should be done? I'd quite like to keep the little coloured boxes, for example — they're already in extensive use on pages relating to the recent New Zealand election, and it seems that many British election results are also using them. If you're talking about writing "Helen Clark" instead of "Clark, Helen", I have no objections. Anything in particular? It would be nice to get some standardisation, although I suppose there will still be disjunction between Australia/NZ and the rest of the world. -- Vardion 20:20, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Something wrrotten in Denmark.[edit]

I'm concerned about a little corner of Wikipedia. Starting with an odd Afd (DoYouDo) which led to another afd (eCRUSH). In both of these I failed to compel the crowd, dispite some disruption. So perhaps it's just my vindictive nature that make me smell something here:

Incromprehensible Closed Railway Station entries[edit]

Hi Ambi after all this time, I have not got around to finding my Franklin photos yet! Deletion Review[edit]

Hi. You were involved in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Votes for undeletion#The scope of VfU which looked to establish a Deletion Review process in place of VfU. There is now a discussion about how we might construct the mechanics of such a process. The current proposal suggests that debates be relisted on AfD if there is a majority of editors wanting to overturn the debate (usually on procedural grounds) and that the alternative result be implemented if it is supported by three-quarters of editors. Please call by Wikipedia talk:Votes for undeletion/Deletion review proposal when you can to discuss. Thanks. Titoxd(?!?) 02:06, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering[edit]

Hi Ambi

I'm wondering about one thing. You were one of the certifiers of Tony Sidaway's RFC's based on his deletion debate closes. I remember you responding to IZAK's mass listing of complaints against me by saying that my decision on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Religious persecution by Jews was "really bad". Arbitration subpage[edit]

Hi. Each of the current candidates in the Arbitration Committee election now has a subpage for people to ask questions and have a discussion with the candidate. It's linked to below your statement on the candidate statements page. Hopefully, this format will be more productive and less disruptive than the "endorsements/disendorsements" approach that caused so many problems last year.

I took the liberty of copying your candidate statement unaltered to your subpage. Feel free to elaborate on it at whatever length you wish, without the concern of space restrictions as on the main candidate page. I encourage you to put your subpage on your watchlist and discuss arbitration issues with the community as part of your campaign. --Michael Snow 04:01, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I hardly deserve all of the credit. If it hadn't been for the efforts of the arbitrators over the past year, we would have had more from the same group of people ready and eager to disrupt the community atmosphere for the election again. --Michael Snow 04:56, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced images[edit]

Please check your images[edit]

I noticed that you have some images in the category Category:Images with unknown source. Due to the vast number of images in this category (12000+), and the fact that, lacking a source, they present considerable copyright uncertanty, Jimbo has stated, and added to the Criteria for Speedy Deletion, "Images in category "Images with unknown source" or "Images with unknown copyright status" which have been in the category for more than 7 days, regardless of when uploaded." This means the images can, and will, be deleted with no notice. To see a list of all the images you've uploaded(at least, under this username), review the upload log. You might also find User:Pearle/by-author-Category:Images_with_unknown_source.txt to be useful(search for your username). If neither of those work, you can find a list of all the images you uploaded(mixed in with all the images you edited) by viewing your contributions by namespace. Dear Ambi: I would like to thank you very much for your support on my RfA. I look forward to working with you on Wikipedia in the future. Best regards, --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) (e-mail) (cabal) 04:12, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

disambig pages[edit]

Just thought I'd drop you a quick note to say you're doing an excellent job of disambiguation pages. --Scott Davis Talk 11:20, 14 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm still slowly cleaning out the names that already have disambigs or redirects from my plain names pages. I haven't made much of an effort to create a lot of new pages though. The disambig pages you make look better than I tend to manage. Watching you and others, it looks like creating the disambigs is easier once most of the towns/suburbs have articles (eg in the ACT, Sydney suburbs), so I'd like to make more effort to get more town and suburb articles created too, especially for South Australia. --Scott Davis Talk 15:17, 14 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect of Canberra business centre articles?[edit]

Hi I was just curious as to why you redirected/named the Kippax Centre, Australian Capital Territory and Jamison Centre, Australian Capital Territory articles following the discussion at Talk:List_of_suburbs_of_Canberra#Vote_for_Commercial_Centre_naming_convention a few weeks ago? This includes your reasonably strongly expressed views against naming shopping centres acccording to the place names convention expressed on 5 September and following. Regards--User:AYArktos | Talk 20:14, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I'm not disputing that one John Latham is no more important than the other. I suppose it's just unfortunate that the disambigution page wasn't set up long ago. I'll go through and do the redirects. All the best Smallweed 20:49, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thank you very much indeed for your kind comments about my work on State of Play and The Girl in the Café. I agree that the State of Play piece as it was a couple of months back was pathetically small, and one day I happened to browse to it and thought "Well I should probably expand it a little..." and ended up getting quite carried away! Nice to know it's been enjoyed, anyway. The Girl in the Café I thought "we should probably have a stub article on this", and again ended up writing more than I'd thought I would! Anyway, thanks once again for your very kind words, it's always very flattering and much appreciated if someone takes the time and trouble to thank you for your work on the Wikipedia. Television-related articles are my specialty, and I tend to write quite a lot of them! Angmering 15:48, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

VFU Header[edit]

The part you restored to this header: "— only if you think the debate was interpreted incorrectly by the closer" is in direct contradiction to Undeletion policy, so I therefore deleted it again. Please have a look at the undeletion policy, especially the second case. It is clear that instructing users to use Votes for Undeletion only for interpretation error or process error is contrary to that second case instruction found in the official policy. Since subpolicies cannot overrule their governing policies, it doesn't matter if there was consensus on the VFU talk page or not. Instructing users contrary to official policy is wrong. Please have a look and feel free to contact me directly if you prefer not to use the talk page. Unfocused 16:31, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

First of all,I did not write the article about the Faculty of Law.If you checked the 'history' of the page,it wasn't started by me.Do not accuse me without checking who the writer of the article is.I just edited some links to the article.

By the way,do not delete articles without prior discussion with other contributors. Deleting articles at your own will is very rude.

I reverted your revert[edit]

At Transnistria, please comment @ Talk:Transnistria. Sam Spade 17:19, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted your revert too[edit]

Please post opinion, facts, or even totally biased POV on Talk:October 2005 Nalchik attack, on my Talk, or even on your personal page. Lack of any justification for revert is not good behavior. You accusation of Russian <whatever> is also ungrounded, only the attack is in Russia. Up to now we have 1. U.S.A. + Australian + U.S./Canadian citizens vs. 2. Russian + Bulgarian + Russo-Ukrainian citizens. IMHO we break even on that point.

I've pointed sources and cited clearly expressed opinions, and you seemed to be in the minority (at the moment). Was it wrong, hard to read, or incomprehensive? It would be fair if your rally some support instead of reverting. -- Goldie (tell me) 07:39, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have edited the text by adding the controversial tag, putting the word terrorists together with a question marks, and removed some unnecessary propaganda. Please do not remove the tag before we reach consensus. If you do not agree with the changes I've made, please edit them instead of reverting the whole article. You seem to be bit reluctant to the word "terrorist", while I think by not using it the problem goes under the carpet. -- Goldie (tell me) 01:32, 24 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Bounty Board[edit]

Rebecca,

I've been thinking for a while about starting a Wikipedia:Bounty Board, where people put up monetary bounties for articles to become featured, but where the money all goes to the Wikimedia Foundation if the conditions are met. I have a draft at User:Quadell/bounty.

It seems to me that the positives would be that it would encourage donations and encourage the creation of featured articles, and it would fill a gap - that people tend to look for a psychological "reward" when they've worked hard for Wikipedia. But my questions are: 1, Do you think there are any legal problems with this? 2, Do you think this goes against the Wiki philosophy? And 3, Do you see any other problems? (I'm asking several long-term and knowlegeable Wikipedian about this.)

Thanks for your input, – Quadell (talk) 17:44, 24 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You, or any Wikipedia user, can contribute your suggestions and comments to the /Workshop page of any active arbitration case. Git[edit]

Never, Law student maybe, but no git. What you did in your summary is what I was trying to get others involved in, but the big problem with most of the edit persons for Perth, they are born 1980+ and have a very poor understanding of what has gone before (snottygobble and a few others are shining examples of otherwise), and as a consequence their edits in fact are in no way NPOV - as they have very limited understanding of the context of their edits. As I was trying a complicated answer to you and boochan, your correction (adelaide indeed) over-rode my edit - I lost it, and I really think your suggestion would simplify my idea really well, and keep it in a manageable form. So it goes. I hope you understand me this time (I think you dont understand most of my messages, but then maybe this might be a bit clearer  :) vcxlor 14:26, 28 October 2005 (UTC) Hey! Never apologise, I'm too wordy anyway for a proper wiki person, I tend to rave and fill up people's talk pages too much. Poor snottygobble and cyberjunkie and scottdavis must think I'm some I dunno what... I will probably prune the Perth Cultural History article "intentions" down to half the headings just to see if the others interested can help. As to how to go back to the years prior to 1980 I think I will back pedal, for the moment.
