sega megadrive[edit]

Hi

I see you removed my reference link "Official and unofficial Sega Mega Drive game releases. I am new to editing Wikipedia and was unaware of your policies. I though it was okay, as reference number 59 uses a link to an external website RacketBoy.com which is an online store. Why hasn't this reference been removed?

PSN outage compensation[edit]

Hi! I have just noticed that after my edit, you added in the compensation table with "No" under Japanese region. Just want to make sure if you have read the source and double check everything. I did my best of adding "yes" based on my limited knowledge of Japanese, but since I was not sure, I did not add "no" to the others. Thanks w.tanoto-soegiri (talk) 11:31, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi and thanks for your clarification. Given your explanation, the term "Downloadable" does seem simpler, so I guess the current template is good enough for the moment since it's free of ambiguities and redirects. Thanks again. --CoolingGibbon (talk) 19:02, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

IP editor with punctuation issues[edit]

You may want to look up when punctuation is used inside or outside quotation marks. In America, commas and periods are almost always put inside the quotation marks. In the UK, they are placed inside or outside depending on the logic of the sentence. I thought you would be interested. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.198.75.65 (talk) 04:27, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alphathon,
I thought you might want to know that last week on my talk page, this IP posted the exact same comment as they posted here today. (You and I had both warned them about not changing quotation punctuation from logical punctuation; they have since removed both posts from their talk page.) Anyway, I've been having a bit of a conversation with them on my talk page, but I'm not sure if it's going anywhere. Feel free to either join in or to ignore their existence completely. I won't mind either way, I just wanted to give you a heads-up.

As you said, 'rip-off' is not a good name, what if we call it 'resemblance' instead. That sounds very good to me, as it is more formal too. What do you think?--Gaming&Computing (talk) 20:42, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Questionnaire[edit]

Hi there, I'm semi-randomly asking users if they would be interested in helping me with my research on Wikipedia. I am writing a dissertation on Wikipedia as part of my undergraduate course at the University of Cambridge. The results will almost certainly not be published to the public, and participants will be anonymous if requested. What I am asking is for you to complete a questionnaire with a number of general, subjective questions about your experiences working on Wikipedia, for example concerning Wikipedia's culture, your motivation in participating and so on. It should take 10-20 minutes. Much more information is availa ble if you are interested. Please reply here or on my talk page. Thanks! I really appreciate any time you can give! About a Change I made to 'List of best-selling game consoles'[edit]

Hello Alphaton

Just recently I have changed some information on the 'List of best-selling game consoles' page. It said that the PlayStation 3 had sold 51.8million when actually it's now 101.8million.

http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps3_sale_e.html

So I decided to change it and help Wikipedia get correct information. Then a minute later I recieved a message from you saying not to change any information as it may be vandalism. I can prove my information is correct if you may visit this link: http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps3_sale_e.html

That shows the PlayStation 3 sales from April, 2006 to today. If you believe my information is true, can you change the sales to 101.8million. If you need to contact me, please contact me via Email at: ngebrail02@hotmail.com

Homininae[edit]

Dear Alphaton, Nice to see your page, I hope I am very cool too! I am a geneticist interested in human evolution and know what I am talking about. However I am recently arrived on Wiki and my English is poor. So, always feel free to improve my English or add data to discussions, but why have you removed Vitruvian man (Vitruvian.jpg) on the page Homininae ? There may be a reference to homo sapiens too! Would you prefer Human.svg as a welcome picture? Thanks. Have a nice day! P’tit Pierre — Preceding unsigned comment added by P'tit Pierre (talkcontribs) 13:28, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I am not a big fan of terminology, but there's clearly a logic behind: I have not seen Australopith in the scientific literature. I guess it is Australopithecines, but this includes Paranthropus which, everybody agrees now, represent a separate branch, and in my opinion the evidence for their relation to Gorillas is overwhelming. When Dawkins says "gracile" Australopithecines he wants to exclude the Paranthropus which are "robust".I do not know exactly which fossil A. Zihlman has taken as reference for her Australopithecus, I would guess it is Lucy, the only quite complete known at the time (1978), now there is sediba who has a very similar morphology and it is interesting to compare its skull with the skull of a Bonobo (I have a nice picture but think it is not free). Hope this helps . Cheers. Pierre http://www.emory.edu/LIVING_LINKS/OurInnerApe/faq.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by P'tit Pierre (talkcontribs) 16:19, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Alphathon, Thanks again for your help! I like tne way the tree is done at the beginning of the Human Evolution page (yellow, pink, blue and green colors, + links) but I really don't know how to do it.Also, some of the Boxes do not fit, so I would guess it is not very easy to product and/or correct properly. At least I have checked that if you open one of my figures on the page, you can then copt it to PowerPoint with good results. I am planning to add one more tree, I am not so good with computers, but if you can help me I will try to do it in a way that Wikipedia would like better. Cheers! Dear Alphathon, many thanks again for your help with my english and your explanations. I think that the article looks nice now. Question on a review for Thirteen[edit]

Hello, Alphathon, I got a question for you. A review from The Metal Critic keeps getting added to the article on Thirteen. I already removed it once under the belief that it is self-published, but an IP re-added saying that it "is [sic] well known and noteworthy Irish metal webzine." Are you more familiar with this source by chance? It reeks of WP:BLOG to me, but I'm still unsure. Thanks for all you have been doing on the Thirteen article, --L1A1 FAL (talk) 14:45, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I noticed the relatively limited number of reviews in the archive, too. And same for some of the grammar issues there, I noticed a few typos and grammar issues also.
Furthermore, I'm kind of suspicious that the user tho added it, User:Pburger123 (contributions), is affiliated with the site, as a number of his edits appear to be adding reviews from "The Metal Critic". It turns out that the IP who re-added was an Irish one.
In any case, I have removed the review again with the same justification, so we'll see what happens with it.--L1A1 FAL (talk) 16:01, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Homininae[edit]

Dear Alphaton, Thanks for your help. It is strange what you say about H. sapiens neanderthalensis, you know that I am not keen on names and I usually say neanderthal, but if you use something else it should be H. sapiens neanderthalensis, the genomic data has proved some admixture of modern humans (H. sapiens sapiens) with Neandertals and Denisovans. It is only 4% and 6% respectively at most, but it means thousands of genes and there can be no doubt about it. It means that neandertals and cro-magnon have mixed and had viable fertile children, which means that it is the same species by definition: H. sapiens, with 3 subspecies Cro-magnon (or modern humans), Neanderthals and Denisovans. Some advice on how to handle the "dispute"? Cheers P'tit Pierre P'tit Pierre (talk) 16:00, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Alphathon, The definition of a species is straightforward: if 2 individuals can mate and have fertile offsprings they belong to the same species, so showing that we have some genetic material coming from Neanderthal proves that our ancestors and Neanderthals were the same species. Now, if you look at the first discussions on the discussion page, it is all about names and it is boring.…All the best! P'tit Pierre P'tit Pierre (talk) 17:59, 5 November 2011 (UTC) Can you imagine what it means to sequence a genome? It is still a huge amount of work, not to mention the nightmare of working with ancient "dirty" DNA in small amounts. The Neanderthal genome is a fabulous achievement, like walking on the moon, so it deserves to be known. P'tit Pierre P'tit Pierre (talk) 18:10, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ps2 and jammin' java[edit]

I'd actually been in the process of retaking the PS2 console photos (I got my hands on the vertical stand) when I noticed all of that stuff going on with the infobox. In the future I would prefer that if you create a derivative work of one of my pictures, that you would put the my photo banners on the page.

Actually, I might retake it again, looking at how much that controller dongle sticks out on the right.

Also, would you mind going over a page for me? I wrote the Jammin' Java article and I'm looking to get other editors to look over it for tone guidelines. There is one guy that thinks it's written like an advertisement (I think he's being over zealous about it), but I know it'd be good for multiple people to help go over it. Any help would be appreciated. Evan-Amos (talk) 05:48, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
