References and links[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for your contributions. Just to let you know, a link to another article is called a "wikilink", not a "reference". (A reference is a specific reference to a published source that information is being cited from.) --McGeddon (talk) 09:40, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:RSC Courtyard Theatre from the other side of the Avon.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:RSC Courtyard Theatre from the other side of the Avon.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:28, 27 July 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 22:28, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:RSC Courtyard Theatre from the other side of the Avon.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 22:28, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will add a tag as suggested above. IRAL0001 (talk) 12:06, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Checking copyright status[edit]

Just checking that you understand how copyright works on Wikipedia - you've released File:Wood Lane Station Entrance.jpg under Creative Commons Attribution, but you've also said in the article description that "Ownership and ultimate copyright of this photo remains with Ian Ritchie Architects Ltd. Future permissions must be requested on a case by case basis."

By releasing something under Creative Commons Attribution, you are allowing anybody to reuse that photo, for any purpose (even a commercial one), so long as they credit you as the photographer. You can't ask people to contact you on a "case by case basis" for permission; by releasing it as CC Attribution, you are automatically giving that permission.

Are you okay with this? Let me know if you have any questions. --McGeddon (talk) 12:14, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And ah, it looks like another editor already noticed the discrepancy and deleted the image. If you plan to upload it again, you should release it purely under Creative Commons rather than adding any "copyright" qualifiers. Thanks. --McGeddon (talk) 12:26, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help - could you please advise which copyright licence should be chosen if you wish to express that the photo cannot be reproduced for any purpose without prior consent? IRAL0001 (talk) 13:10, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid Wikipedia simply doesn't accept "prior consent" type licences. Part of the Wikipedia project's mission is to make its material widely and freely available to anybody who wants to reuse it (for personal, educational, commercial or any other purposes), and the copyright status of every image on Wikipedia is pretty much either "public domain", "reusable with attribution" or "fair use in the United States, you might want to check local laws". Anyone who wants to reuse an image can do so quickly and easily, without having to ask anyone's permission.
Releasing an image under Creative Commons Attribution means that anyone who reused your image would have to credit you when they used the photo, but I'm afraid that's all you can ask for when uploading an image to Wikipedia. It'd obviously be a great benefit to the project if you could release some of your work under a CC licence, but I can understand if you can imagine potential reuse situations that you'd be unhappy with. --McGeddon (talk) 13:52, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Changing username[edit]

Hello. A bureaucrat or clerk has responded to your username change request, but requires clarification before moving forward. Please follow up as soon as possible. Thank you. –Juliancolton | Talk 18:00, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your request at WP:CHU or WP:CHU/U needs your attention[edit]

Hello, there! A clerk or bureaucrat that participates in the requests for username changes or the usurpations requests area has recently replied to your request for such change and is requesting your input. Please make sure you reply as soon as possible; requests with pending input-petitions that languish for more than a few days will be automatically declined by a bureaucrat. If you need more help, please feel free to contact me or ask for further explanation at the requests page. Thank you for your time and attention. —Duncan (that's me!)What I Do / What I Say 22:38, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to request to change to AJohns, should I complete a new request?

Looks like this may be an autoblock or something. Can you cut and paste the message you get when you try to edit a page other than this one? It has the information we would need to find the block. Thanks. Syrthiss (talk) 12:12, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help. I seem to be able to edit today.Alex Johns11:24 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Wikilinks[edit]

A small point, but when referring to a page within Wikipedia it is preferable to use a wikilink such as Talk:Ian Ritchie (architect), rather than an internet link like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Ian_Ritchie_(architect). - David Biddulph (talk) 17:26, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, noted thanks Alex Johns (talk) 08:42, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alex, can you please quickly confirm your affiliation with IRAL? Thanks Tiggerjay (talk) 23:23, 22 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am an employee and we are seeking to improve the information on this page. Ian Ritchie is the Director of Ian Ritchie Architects (there is a Wikipedia page on the company). We are aware of the potential conflict of interest but are seeking guidance as to how the article can be made more neutral which will hopefully result in removal of the banners on this page. Thank you Alex Johns (talk) 11:55, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Alex, thank you for your honest reply. I am here to help as much as possible, but I cannot stress that you and whoever else is working on this article read the WP:COI policy multiple times through. There can be consequences both digitally and in the real world when there is a COI on an article, again those are explained in the policy. Second you need to be very careful about violating the sockpuppet policy, both individually and as an organization. Third, I would highly suggest you attempt at editing a couple of non-related articles so you can experience what it means to be a contributor on Wikipedia outside of a COI context. Fourth, it would be generally good pratice to disclose your COI on your userpage. Tiggerjay (talk) 15:33, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
