Adding reference to Wikipedia articles[edit]

Just follow the steps as shown, and fill in the details

Hello Akk7a! Please do not forget to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. Adding well-formatted references is easy.

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "cite". Click on it.
  2. Then click on "templates".
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and then fill all relevant details.

This will add a well-formatted reference, which will allow other people to see where you got your information from. You can read more about this at Help:Edit toolbar, or watch this video: File:RefTools.ogv. Thanks and regards —DBigXray 21:47, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Original Barnstar
For your amazing Indian Artillery regiment articles!! Keep up the good work!! Buckshot06 (talk) 00:28, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Akk7a, please do not put all regiment articles you create in the main Category:Regiments of the Indian Army category. Please only put them in the right subcategory, either Category:Armoured and cavalry regiments of the Indian Army from 1947 or Category:Artillery regiments of the Indian Army after 1947, or Category:Infantry regiments of the Indian Army from 1947. Do not put them please in both levels at the same time - that higher-level category is reserved for regiment which don't fit in either the infantry, cavalry/armoured, or artillery categories (like air defence, at the moment). Speedy deletion nomination of 29 AD Regiment (Samba) (India)[edit]

Hello Akk7a,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged 29 AD Regiment (Samba) (India) for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Continuing editing problems[edit]

  1. You have received several messages warning you about copyright infringements. If you continue to copy material to Wikipedia without regard to copyright you will be blocked from editing.
  2. You have received a large number of messages about links to disambiguation pages. A new editor may be excused for making that mistake if they haven't been warned against it, but continuing to link to disambiguation pages after so many warnings makes it look as though you aren't bothering to try to avoid repeating the mistake. Please, whenever you are intending to link to an article, before you do so check that the page you are linking to isn't a disambiguation page. Also, if you realise you have linked to a disambiguation page by mistake then please correct your mistake. JBW (talk) 21:04, 28 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Created page for 75 Medium Regiment (India)[edit]

Hello Akk7a, I complement you for the good work you are doing to bring units of the Regiment of Artillery (India) online. I expect you are a veteran/veteran’s son. I am pleased to see 97 Field Regiment online; and would like the same for 75 Medium Regiment (Basantar River) the regiment my father commanded during the Indo-Pak War 1971 (Op: Cactus Lily).

I am aware that the page to be created is 75 Medium Regiment (India) and then forward linked to its already existing name 75 Medium Regiment (Basantar River) on the Artillery units list and other related category pages. I am happy to inform you that I have created and published the page for the Regiment. Kindly review it for code/syntax errors.

You may review my earlier work at Wikipedia pages for Battle of Basantar, 54th Infantry Division (India), Operation Meghdoot, Maha Vir Chakra, Vir Chakra and List of military operations of India.

Have a great day.

Hello Akk7a,
Our friend MPGuy2824 has been my guide since I talked with you last. He had marked the page with the "Additional Citations Required" box. I have added another 5, now totaling 10 citations/references; and have asked him to review the page and remove the box. Of course, I know that I only have to remove the bit of code; but I would prefer that he does it or asks me to to remove it.
Do take a look at at the Regiment's page and review it and let me know if there is anything else I can do.
Regards,
. Akash139 (talk) 13:45, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again Akk7a,
I have removed the "Additional Citations Required" box from the top of the Regiment's page and asked MPGuy2824 to review it again; and let me know if there is anything else I can do to improve the content of the article.
Have a great evening.
. Akash139 (talk) 14:19, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, will probably do in a few days Akk7a (talk) 04:08, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have added all the requisite citations and references. MPGuy2824, Dcotos, HeyElliott and other editors have reviewed the Regiment's page and have added their edits and corrections. Thank you. Have a great day. Akash139 (talk) 11:13, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have made a few corrections and additions. I have moved a few references so that are taken in proper context and removed those which were repeated. I feel that the content of the section 75 Medium Regiment at the Battle of Basantar should be considerably shortened and the whole section moved to the 75 Medium Regiment (India) page. The Battle of Basantar page should not be about projecting individual units who fought. It should have a balanced approach to what was a collective approach by those who took part. The same should be done with the section on 9 Engineer Regiment as and when a page is created. Akk7a (talk) 10:43, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
Appreciate your effort.
Now, getting to the point. It was only 75 Medium Regiment that was in direct support of 16 (Independent) Armoured Brigade during the war. 161 Field Regiment was a part of 54 Artillery Brigade and gave supporting fire when called for by the authorized OP officers. Further, it was 64 Air Defence Battery that participated. In any case, a regiment's page to refer to other regiments would be an over-statement. Let these other regiments state their efforts when they make their pages. I shall suitably update the page for 75 Medium Regiment, and you could review it thereafter.
Now, the 75 Medium Regiment at the Battle of Basantar and actions at Thakurdwara, Chakra and Jarpal are more suitable for the main page for the Battle of Basantar. Other units that participated in the battle should also update this main page appropriately. Conversely, to put this whole war and battle on a regiment's page would only make it longer than required. Further, there are other operations that require listing on a regiment's page. So, it is better to put the details of the participation on the main pages and a brief description on the regiment's page. Keeping this in view, no shifting of the content from the main "Battle of Basantar" page to the regiment's page is required.
Regards,
. Akash139 (talk) 12:00, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Have updated the regiment's page. Now, I shall be happy to assist in editing the pages for the 161 Field Regiment and 45 AD Regiment after you create them. Just send me a talk message. Have a great day. Akash139 (talk) 12:14, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Back in 1971 the order of precedence of medals was Vir Chakra, then Vishisht Seva Medal and then Sena Medal. I have updated this on the Regiment's page. In fact, back in 1971 there was no Yudh Seva Medal.
Years later, for reasons best known to the subsequent leaders, this order of precedence was disrupted. Akash139 (talk) 13:37, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Adding the years probably adds to confusion to the average reader. Most people won't notice the order of precedence. The years you have mentioned are the according to the year the order got published in the gazette. The awards usually precedes it by months/years. Akk7a (talk) 04:35, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
1. Have amended the section title to read "Honours and Awards".
2. Have removed the year of gazette.
3. Maintaining the order of precedence: Vir Chakra, Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Mentioned-in-Dispatches (Due to non-availability of the Yudh Seva Medal in 1971-72; and that the Vishisht Seva Medal was awarded for both war and peace time).
4. Have abbreviated the Lieutenant colonel to read "Lt Col"
5. Have left the decorations in the info box as is. If you are of the view that the order of precedence would be thought of as an error in present date. Do let me know, and I shall remove the decoration sub-section from the info box.
Have a look at it now. I expect it looks okay; but do confirm the decorations listed in the info box.
Have a great day. Akash139 (talk) 06:51, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. I had made it Lieutenant Colonel, as all the ranks are in expansions - it is best to avoid abbreviations. Akk7a (talk) 04:12, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the "Lieutenant Colonel" is two words and a bit long; so I abbreviated it to "Lt Col". In fact, at the first occurrence (in the 1st para under Operations) of "Lt Col" I have linked it to the Indian Army rank to remove any ambiguity. The other ranks are one word, so they can be written in full form.
Now, similarly for the "Major General" and "Lieutenant General" ranks, I abbreviate them to "Maj Gen" and "Lt Gen" respectively and link them to the Indian Army rank to remove any ambiguity. I also abbreviate "Brigadier" to "Brig" and link it to the Indian Army rank.
Better to keep it short and to the point. Akash139 (talk) 05:05, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Akk7a,
Our friend MPGuy2824 has again marked citation needed for the first CO of the Regiment; and I had ordered this book "Indian Army: A Reference Manual" by G Sharma, but it's out of stock in Amazon India. I shall try and get this book from a Book store at the earliest.
If you or someone you know has the related citation, do update the page suitably.

97 Field Regiment (India)[edit]

Hello Akk7a,

I took a look at the 97 Field Regiment (India) page; and observe that you have repeated 105/37 Indian field gun twice. Would suggest that you remove the light field gun. I visited the unit last year and met Rudra and Gandiva; and I assure you there is nothing light about these guns. Further, you could include the 105/37 mm part into the gun's wiki link.

As you are looking after the Regiment's page, I shall only suggest an improvement if I see one.

IFG and LFG are different variants of the Indian field gun, both of which are is use.04:10, 11 January 2024 (UTC) Akk7a (talk) 04:10, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

75 Medium Regiment (Gallantry Awards section)[edit]

Hello Akk7a,

To clarify with regard to the Gallantry awards and their listing and order of precedence. The sequence of precedence would be Vir Chakra, then Vishisht Seva Medal (due to lack of availability of the Yudh Seva Medal in 1971-72, the Vishisht Seva Medal was awarded for both war and peace time), then Sena Medal and then the Mentioned-in-Dispatches.

To remove any ambiguity and provision for the subsequent disruption of the order of precedence of medals after the introduction of the Yudh Seva Medal series in 1980; I have marked the War/Operation for which the awards were received. Further, I have amended the section title to read "Honours and Awards"

Battle of Basantar (Update)[edit]

Hi Akk7a,

Yesterday, I have updated the "Battle of Basantar" page for the section '9 Engineer Regiment' and added the citations in the body of the article. I have also updated the "Conclusion" and removed all the "citation required templates" from the page.

Do take a look at it, improve it if required; and update the duplication of citations in the "Awards" section at the bottom of the page.

. Akash139 (talk) 07:03, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Operation Meghdoot[edit]

Hi Akk7a,

Yesterday, I have updated the "Operation Meghdoot" page; edited the text, improved grammar & sentence formation and added the citations in the body of the article; and of course, removed the irrelevant and dead links. I have also removed all the "citation required templates" from the page.

Do take a look at it; and improve it, if required.

. Akash139 (talk) 08:54, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Operation Snow Leopard[edit]

Hi Akk7a,

The "Operation Snow Leopard" page redirects to "2020–2021 China–India skirmishes"; and frankly this skirmish page is in a bit of a mess alongwith this CT tag.

It maybe a matter of consideration to create "Operation Snow Leopard" as a standalone page as it is an Indian operation with a lot of Indian Army units participating in it alongwith combat air patrolling by the Indian Air Force.

Do put some suitable content available with you to start the edit; and I shall contribute subsequently. Of course, you may ask other experienced editors to contribute as well. It would be an interesting exercise as this is a present ongoing operation.

1890 Rocket Regiment (India) moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, 1890 Rocket Regiment (India), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi,
I have updated the article and added citations. All data is referenced. Thanks Akk7a (talk) 09:22, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Artillery Regiments with Battle Honour Title Suffix[edit]

Hello Akk7a,

I was taking a look at the list of Artillery regiments; and wonder why the Battle Honour titles are included in the link. If this is to be maintained then all such regiments would need to have a page with the Battle Honour title and redirecting to the regiment page suffixed with India.

I have created a page 75 Medium Regiment (Basantar River) which redirects to 75 Medium Regiment (India). So, if you search for 75 Medium Regiment (Basantar River) it takes you directly to 75 Medium Regiment (India). Earlier, it would go to a search result with the "page does not exist" remark. In my view, even after this update is done there is no need to update the Wikidata with an alias.

Do let me know if you agree with this action; and I shall implement it for the other regiments with battle honour titles.

Regards,

. Akash139 (talk) 18:52, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Akash139,
The 'list' is an useful tool to quickly search for units. Say, if you want to check all units with the Kargil title - it is pretty easy. Leave that in the same shape. Regarding unit title in the specific page, I have been asked by the editors to not use honour titles and add (India) to all units. Akk7a (talk) 04:04, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Akk7a,
The objective here is to remove any ambiguity; as 75 Medium Regiment (India) and 75 Medium Regiment (Basantar River) are the same regiment. I have created 75 Medium Regiment (Basantar River) and redirected it to 75 Medium Regiment (India).
This action may also be implemented for 75 Medium Regiment; but this is more generic as there maybe other regiments in the world similarly named with the same tactical number. So, leaving the generic to search results would be better.
This action is mainly to prevent any misuse of the Regiment's name suffixed with the Battle Honour title. You could check with the editors in this regard.
Do let me know if you agree with this action; and I shall implement it for the other regiments with battle honour titles.
Have a great day. Akash139 (talk) 04:52, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Akash139,
I personally think that is a needless exercise. Just do a google search with both the names. It directs you to the correct location. Akk7a (talk) 07:10, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Akk7a,
I have implemented this action for 75 Medium Regiment (India); and remain of the view that similar action of creating a redirect from the regiment's page with the battle honour title suffixed to the regiment's page with the "India" suffix would be required to remove ambiguity as both the names are for the same regiment. Collaterally, this would also prevent the misuse of the regiment's page with the battle honour title suffix.
This action relates to Wikipedia internally and does not pertain to Google search. Google search would in any case provide all result for the search query. Do check with the editors and confirm. Akash139 (talk) 08:41, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
