AFD bot

Not sure how you currently parse the nominations but what about pulling out the link at the top of the nom (==[[here]]==) - most of the time it should be correct and if that isn't, it at least gives a possible clue as to why the AFD is still open. Yomangani^talk 13:33, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, for some reason when I edited your page it was still showing the deletebecause|Reason thing and I removed it. But you had already removed it. votesymbols.js

There is a problem with votesymbols.js. I have Firefox, and when I load this js file, it doubles the purge tab I added, and the non-native buttons on the edit toolbar. On it's talk page, somebody said that they found it only worked in IE. Are you planning to fix this? I like the idea for this, and hope that somebody can get it working in Firefox, since many people use Firefox (probably more than IE). More Harassment From A Political Candidate

I wrote to you before concerning a Texas Senatorial candidate editing a compilation of material I had stored in anticipation he wins the election, and becomes worthy of an article on Wikipedia. Since I compiled the assortment, it has been the target of a variety of attacks. The most recent of the attacks was the speedy deletion of the page without notice. You helped me undelete a couple of pages before, and I was hoping you would help me again. I lack the Administrative privileges to undelete the pages myself. Thank you in advance. Could you please give the name of one of the deleted pages? (Otherwise, I don't know where in the logs to look to find out what's happened.) If you're talking about your Sandbox5, it seems it was temporarily deleted to remove libel from the edit history. Not being an administrator, I can't verify whether this is correct or not; anyway, it's been restored now. Someone appears to have been vandalising it (possibly it was temporarily deleted because that user added libel earlier? Bot523

I love your bot!

I am very glad to see that someone has created this bot to do exactly what I was doing manually. I was opening each categorised AfD and if the discussion was closed I would remove the tag and leave a message on the closer's talk page. I wonder if some consideration was given to leaving a message on the talk page of the closer? I guess it would mean reducing the workload of the bot, but I think it is usually better to have it done correctly by a person then leave the clean up to a bot. I have absolutly no idea how the bot works (programming wise), but thanks for creating it. Ensuring an article appears on the relevant category page

Instead of adding just Zambian politicians to the list of categories, treat it as a Wikipedia:Piped link and add something after that pipe. To sort properly write "last name, first name" for proper sorting. - Mgm|^(talk) 08:49, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Unclosed AFDs

A small request for your Unclosed AfD list - would it be possible to link the dates to the AFD log for that day rather than the general WP date page? When there are only few still open for a date it would be handy to be able to switch straight to that day and see if they are still listed. I know you are still doing that by hand, so no worries if it is a problem, but it would be useful when it is fully "bottified". Diff/edit counter

I don't know if you saw my comment on the RfA talk page, but I wanted to give you some of that "positive reinforcement" : )
I really like the diff example lister (whatever you call it). Not only does it group edits by the page edited (rather than trying to guess by edit summary, which I don't like), but it gives a few quick examples for quick perusal. All-in-all a great tool. I think it's perfect for the talk page, but please make sure you have a noticable link to it on the voting side. I see you have at least one award for it, so I won't "burden" you with another (if you want another, though, speak up, and it's yours : )

How does your edit counter identify edits which are welcoming or warning users?

I feel like I have welcomed more than 4 users but your edit counter only found 4. These days, I am using a welcome template that is in my userspace and which might not be categorized. Could this be causing my welcome messages to be ignored by your edit counter? Thanks in advance for your replay and thanks for building this great tool. (Although it was humbling to be told that 0.49% of my edits were notable and only 1.97% were even significant.) I guess I'm just a two-bit contributor.  :^)

There are various possibilities. My edit counter looks at edit summaries to determine what people are doing (welcomes and warnings, etc.) and many people write summaries in such a way that it can't pick them up (people tend not to be as predictable as scripts and bots would like, and that's a good thing IMO). It doesn't try to categories edits into 'notable' and 'significant'; you may have my counter confused with Voice of All's (which does try to calculate notable and significant edits; it also uses edit summaries, as far as I can tell). I can understand the mistake as they have both ended up on the same RfA page before.

I can't tell who you are; you seem to have been logged out when you asked this question, and the IP you signed as has no welcomes. I could look into the matter further if I knew. Yeah, I should have mentioned that I bypassed the cache. And tried purging the page (but doubting it would do anything): it's funny... purging the page makes mozilla display monobook.js correctly. But that's beside the point. Oh well, thanks for trying. I'll probably look into it a little deeper at some point, and let you know if I find anything; but I'm severely allergic to javascript. On a windows machine, it's still not working with Mozilla or Firefox, but it seems to work with IE. All other scripts I have tried have worked with Mozilla and Firefox on OpenBSD, Linux, and Windows, so this leads me to believe it's a browser incompatibility with your script. Have you tested it with firefox or mozilla? That's probably a stupid question, since nobody else has asked about it, and that many people seem to be running non-ie browsers, but I can't come up with another answer. Testing your suggestion on a Win32 machine right now (I'm pretty sure that it'll be the same at home): on IE, it get a new tab "ca-test" (gives a window saying "This is a test", obviously. However, on firefox, where i usually have: "user page | discussion | edit this page | + | history | move | watch | purge ", i now have a second "purge" tab. (this, I know, seems quite wierd). Both "purge"s do the same thing. With this new evidence, I now think there may be a problem with another script that runs first. I've tried commenting out all other scripts (and, of course bypassing the cache). With firefox on windows, I still get nothing. Anyway, I now know that I can use windows and IE to run your script as a workaround. Although it would be cool to get it working and it's an intellectually intriguing problem, I don't want to waste more of your time on this issue. If you are still inclined to try to solve it, I'm still interested; but you've gone "above and beyond" already. Thanks again for the ideas and time that you've spent on this. It's appreciated. I'd be using your script mainly for RfA investigations, and I usually have a windows laptop nearby, so I can live with it not working on Firefox or Mozilla. Well, like I said, I greatly appreciate your efforts to solve the issue. At some point, I'll try to look into it in a little more detail... til then, I have the workaround of my Win32 laptop that has IE. Hi

I noticed that you very kindly helped Labyrinth13 by giving him advice concerning the Ouija article. Since you are already familiar with the "'case" I wanted to mention that I tried to resolve the situation from the beginning by removing any reference to The Exorcist since it seemed to cause him concern. This does not seem to be where his "real" problem lies.

I would ave thought that a compromise by removing any mention of The Exorcist would have resolved the issue. But he seems to want The Exorcist mentioned so that he can argue the veracity of the case the story was inspired by. That does not belong in the Ouija article but in an article about the case which actually inspired the book.

Going back to the above mentioned "real" problem. How does one resolve a problem when his real problem is with my religion? Yes, I am a practicing Catholic, but I have tried to fairly include information into an article composed by people with many points of views and ideas.

If I inadvertently lean too POV someone will add an "alleged" or something. But when I go to the extreme of actually removing an offending statement to make his objection moot, it makes not sense to me to insist upon putting both statements back in unless of course it is in order to get his bias across.

The only reasonable solution is to simply leave out any mention of The Exorcist one way or the other. Just my reasoned thoughts, thank you for your time. Dwain 02:01, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

First of all, great job on the clock. I would have never thought of the possibility of creating an analog clock without using javascript. I just thought that I'd point out something. At certain times, the hour hand is not limited to the div box. The dots sometimes appear to leave the box, with only the center dot still in it. One particular time this happens is at 20:10 (UTC). Working on interlanguage links for Farsi Wikipedia

I'm working on creating better help pages on Farsi Wikipedia. Currently many of pages are a simple translation of English wikipedia. As you see in this first request, I have a problem on making Interlanguage links on English wikipedia help pages and I think we should do it to perform a basic acceptable port of it to Farsi. I want to know if there is any other way for doing that instead of asking for permision on every page.

Unicode symbols on zodiac articles

(Re: WP:NCH) No, don't delete these; they'll show up correctly on some browsers, but other browsers won't have the correct fonts installed to be able to show them. I suggest that you should probably put the symbols back (you can copy them from the page history). Try looking at Wikipedia:Unicode for more information. --ais523 10:19, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I'm simply stupid. I've translated everything but Special:Watchlist into Speciale:Watchlist. Just a thing: it didn't work 'cause into the method cwOntoWatchlist it was tryng to execute a[i].nextSibling.insertBefore(temp,temp2); while temp2 was null.

I've modified it into:

      if (temp2!=null)
        a[i].nextSibling.insertBefore(temp,temp2);
      else
        a[i].appendChild(temp);

No, I'm having problems in general (been driving me crazy actually), being new to fiddly markup. What I would have liked is white text, black background, talk - contribs afterwards in superscript, time stamp, and if poss a serif font like times new roman. Now, all this may seem simple, but I have been trying to scrape the code together from other peoples sigs, but cant make it work.
