Who is a Puerto Rican?[edit]

I'm a little confused. User: Entre-Nos says that unless you are born in Puerto Rico, you are not Puerto Rican. This is not a debate, just a discussion. I would like to know the answer to this, here:[[1]] Tony the Marine 01:55, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, saw you just created this article. Did you notice how closely worded it is to the first reference? I saw your inuse template, so you're probably working on that right now. Peace, delldot talk 04:05, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DYK[edit]

Updated DYK query Did you know? was updated. On 2 September, 2007, a fact from the article Miriam Rodon-Naveira, which you recently nominated, was featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Heh I guess I deserved to have that template dropped on me. :-) It's a bad habit, I nearly always upload pictures to the English Wikipedia. I'll have that changed. By the way, your last e-mail, I couldn't agree more. Best regards, Húsönd 11:53, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fuerzas Armadas de Liberación Nacional (Puerto Rico)[edit]

It seems you are interested in this article, I have been considering raising it to GA since I worked with Ejercito Popular Boricua perhaps we can raise it now that we don't have to worry with nobody opposing Ramón Emeterio Betances. I kind of forgot to mention this but in case the Newsletter isn't complete and you don't know it yet, Tony nominated The Borinqueneers to GAC. - Caribbean~H.Q. 21:32, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will begin work with it tonight, hehe that was a close one :) - Caribbean~H.Q. 21:37, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think we can add a photo of Filiberto, if I get you a raw version of the logo can you work with it to get it to a better image quality, I don't know maybe with photoshop or something? - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:36, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Found the logo, it appears written by pencil, its on a background here. - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:44, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think we can nominate it to GAC and work with it while the nomination is up, I still haven't read all of the communiques they released, those things are really useful when working with the history of the group so perhaps I will add some more material while it gets reviewed. - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:12, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your second RfA[edit]

Hello Boricuaeddie, I just stumbled across your second RfA. Mind if I make a suggestion? Wait for another two or three weeks before accepting. Your last RfA was about a month ago, and you participate at RfA enough to know that some people oppose because of short times between RfAs. You don't have to have the current nomination page deleted; just accept it in two or three weeks time. The choice is yours to make, however, but it's just some advice to avoid having your second RfA not pass. Acalamari 17:44, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome for the advice; you don't really want opposition such as "last RfA was a month ago". Give it two or three weeks, then answer the questions, accept, and submit it. You can accept at anytime, so there is no limit on how how long you can wait to accepting an RfA nomination. As for new admins...there's always be a need for them. :) Acalamari 20:35, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with this. For sure. --Tλε Rαnδom Eδιτor (tαlk) 23:16, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This edit almost makes me think you're talking to yourself. There was no incivility at all in my comment, and as I don't really give a fuck I wouldn't have any reason to lose my cool. It might be best for you to take a step back and look over my comments again and see what really offended you in them --lucid 21:07, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, whatever you say. Time to move on (for both of us); just remember to at least try to fix the articles. --Boricuæddie 21:10, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conf)Oh, and I don't really want to hear what you think of what I just said. I just want you to think about it. If you disagree with it, that's your choice, if it makes you think I hope it helps. I'm not doing it to antagonize you, bug you, or anything else, I just want you to think about what you're saying here. --lucid 21:11, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion warning[edit]

I have permission from the author (J. Bucki) to release the content of the article you mentioned freely and I am the administrator of the site (http://iegd.institut.online.fr/ART02-B-ADSc-BPR-en.htm in this case) But english wikipedia deleted the article and I cannot leave a message on the article's talk page. So that I should send an email from an adress associated with the original publication, would you be so kind to mention the email adress I have to send my message to. Robertatum 12.21, 6 september 2007

RE:Copyright status of Decisional analysis of complex systems[edit]

Thanks for your help: I don't know the name of the administrators who deleted my article after debate and consensus and what is the reason why my article was deleted. First, I wrote a previous article under the name of "decision engineering" and the vocabulary and grammar need to be improved. Some adminatrators invited me to do it. I made some corrections and re-writings, but it was not enough and without any help from anyone english or american trough English Wikipedia, the article was cancelled again by Wikipedia administrators in June 2007. Convinced that my suject is fair, I created in september 2007 an article on English Wikipedia with the permission of the author under the original title of the method "Decisional Analysis of complex systems". I mentioned sources and references, as this method is recognized by the top universities (HEC) and Research center CNRS) in France. Nay way the article was deleted without explanation. So I am not sure the reason of this deleting process regarding my subject is either vocabulary, or grammar, either a copyright question. Now vocabulary and grammar are perfect and if I can prove I have the permission of the author, I can do it. First I want to know the name of one of the administrators in charge of the deleting process in order to communicate. If I know why English wikipedia has problem with the subject, the matter of my article, I can understand: may be concepts are not enough classical etc. They have to tell me the exact reason according Wikipedia policy. I ca follow a rule if it is explicit. But if I see wrong reasons are given, it is fair that I request to know the truth. Isn't it your position too ? Robertatum 13.32, 6 september 2007

Smiling is contagious,
you catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner
and someone saw my grin
When he smiled I realized
I'd passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile
then I realized its worth,
A single smile, and just like mine
could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,
don't leave it undetected -
Let's start an epidemic quick,
and get the world infected!

Puerto Rico[edit]

Sigh... now what? I just don't feel confortable trowing this to the FAC fire just yet, since the article is out of my expertise (biographies) I can't tell if something is still missing, I only did the direct to Featured candidate with the MIAs list because there was no choice (peer review isn' working and there isn't such a thing as a Good List) but here I'm just not sure, we should probably contact an editor from another country so we can get a neutral review before nominating. - Caribbean~H.Q. 15:47, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On a completely different note, how good of a list do you think we can get if we merge all of the articles here and here and create a list of Local airlines in Puerto Rico? - Caribbean~H.Q. 19:00, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure about Criterion 1 in these country articles, Japan passed FAC with about the same level of vandalism, I believe the vandals are avoidable so lets try to prevent any edit war and add some references while someone reviews it. Okay. I've fleshed it out quite a bit more, rearranged things, and added several sources. I went through the list from WP:WIAGA, including the list of words to avoid, and none of those words appear in improper forms, in fact, most don't appear at all. The word that's supposed to be avoided "reported", is obviously used because he is, in fact, a reporter, lol. But all the words are used properly. Grammar and spelling shouldn't be an issue, as it has been proofread a few times by others. I've hidden the comment about his son until I get the book tomorrow. I think it covers all 6 areas of a GA, if you want to review it with that in mind, whenever you get a chance. I've listed it at WP:GAC under "misc media", because technically he is not a "Actor, model, performer or celebrity", and the Journalism category had no biography section. Thank you my dear Squid Guy! Now what do I have to do? Anything? (This is the first time I've actually gone through the process, previously I've just helped comment on GA candidates, but have not ever formally reviewed one myself) ArielGold 17:24, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sweet dear Eddie, I merely wished to drop by and say hi to you, with the hope that life's treating you as well as you deserve... and with a couple of short messages! One, I recently had the chance to see your page at Commons, and I found it very nice (even tho I shouldn't be saying that! ;) I saw it had a couple of minor flaws in terms of spacing and some borders that didn't appear to be curvy, so I fixed your page a litle myself. I hope you like it! :) The second message is far shorter, and you'll get my emaning, I'm sure.... boink time! :) Lots of love, Phaedriel - 21:37, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He just needs time, and a lot of support and warmth from us, his friends; but someday, and let's hope it's soon, he'll be back with us, with renewed energies. I didn't want you to remain worried, sweetie, and I know you'll be relieved by these news - I know I am, a lot :) I also promised you yesterday taht we'd talk a little more about Simple, didn't I? Name change[edit]

I think the best title for "List of Tainos" would be " List of notable Taínos". Tony the Marine 20:16, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the article should just stay as is. We need a complete list of all Tainos, and changing the name would create a sub-topic list without having a general-topic list. The problem is finding sources to non-caciques, which, given their inherent non-notability, are pretty hard to find. Nevertheless, it shouldn't affect the title. That's why I tagged it as {{dynamic list}}. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 20:58, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's okay. Unless you really, really disagree. :-). I just think that there might be more info on Taínos based on historical records that we haven't found yet. As such, there's a possibility that the list might keep expanding given time. However, I think I understand your point that it's preferable to have a complete sub-topic list, than a grossly incomplete general-topic list. But we can have a compromise, why not both?
Also, while reading the article I noticed it used many Taíno words. These should be defined in the introduction, but not generally used in the article's main body, IMO. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 21:08, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • In order to not complicate things, I believe that the "List of Tainos" should then be renamed "List of known Taínos". That should cover all grounds. Do you agree? Tony the Marine 02:23, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(Everybody seems to be discussing this here so...) Well I think that "List of Tainos" might be misleading, there is no way we can list all Tainos, "List of caciques" is not viable because the list mentions a few tainos that aren't caciques, I would side with "List of known Tainos" because it offers more flexibility, one more thing I diagree with tagging as "dinamic", while more Tainos might still come into play here, the list is not going to be that unstable and its not incomplete. - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:22, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think that Tony's suggestions might be the best compromise. The best example is List of known slaves, whose title is as suggested by Tony, and has the appropriate template. I still think the {{dynamic list}} tag is needed, because we can never be sure on whether the list has all known Taínos. We're admitting to the reader that the list includes everything we've found, but it may not be enough. Previous featured lists have passed with this consideration, for example List of HIV-positive people. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 19:06, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Translations from English to Spanish Wikipedia[edit]

Is it true that Spanish language Wikipedia only has a translation protocol for translating featured articles into it? That is what the students assigned to look into it tell me. I would really rather not limit my students to featured articles as these are quite long and since they have never really translated before, it would be best if they did an article about a topic they know quite well. If it is the case that the protocol is only for featured articles, can you tell me if there would be a problem if they translated a non-featured article in Word and upload it as a new article in Spanish Wikipedia? Sorry to bother you but my second language reading skills (esp. with complicated, non-familiar text) stink. Thanks! Thelmadatter 16:38, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I vaguely remember it saying it couldn't calculate fully or something -it took ages anyway. I've never evne bothered to check my "statistics" before as it is not important but I happaneed to come across it when looking at Nehrams 2020 who has recently become admin and the - "listof wikipedians with the highest edits but aren't admin. where the link is there. OK thanks anyway I didn't mean to appear sarcastic at all. ALl the best and thanks for your help. Adios ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 21:43, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mucho Gusto[edit]

Thanks for the star - it's my first for actually contributing. How random. I saw you commenting at RfA, but didn't know you edited the hogging article. I found it when LaraLove mentioned it as a tangent. Que loco. the_undertow talk 23:40, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Huh?[edit]

To User:Agüeybaná - your sig is confusing, because it has a link to an article instead of links to your User page and your talk page. I would suggest changing it so that more people are not confused.[7] 199.125.109.47 16:25, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm?[edit]

Hmmm? It wasn't mean, and it explained the various issues that would have arisen anyway, plus, gave many helpful suggestions. Do you think I was wrong to explain all of that? Or are you just sick of seeing my verbosity? lol. ArielGold 21:35, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

UAA[edit]

Yeah, I'm new, so I'm not too good at it yet. :P Oh well, it'll come with time! Love, Neranei (talk) 02:26, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chat[edit]

Eddie, solamente falta tu para completar la tripleta de admins. It is amazing how such a young person like you can have such a previleged mind. You remind me of a friend of mine, a user that I once knew, he was also very young, but he became one of the greatest admins. I believe that by next month you should be in the club. When all three of you are in the club, only then I will know that I have left things in well hands. One question. Why have you changed your user page so many times? Tony the Marine 04:11, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

↑ Very truth, just dropping by to report wich articles are still in WP:GAC to reduce the ammount of work when finishing the project's Newsletter, they are: Puerto Rican Spindalis nominated by Marcos, 1998 Puerto Rican general strike, nominated by Scartol, this a very marvelous article that was basically GA level when it was created two weeks ago, José Juan Barea nominated by me, I just hope the lack of a free image doesn't affect the review, and Fuerzas Armadas de Liberación Nacional (Puerto Rico) nominated by some guy named Boricuaeddie (never heard of him :) that's all of them for now, cheers. - Caribbean~H.Q. 04:30, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, just informing of them in case that you weren't aware of one of the nominations. - Caribbean~H.Q. 13:36, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As to Tony's admin comment, I fully agree! As to Caribbean H.Q.'s comments, how in the hell did those three great articles get written without me knowin'? It just goes to show us that WP:PUR is very much alive! :) - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 13:40, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I swear...[edit]

He must guard it like a dragon's treasure, because I spent over 6 hours trying to get it! His age isn't even given anywhere, except that he graduated high school in 73, and college in 77, so he was either born in 1955 or 1956. Thanks for adding the cats, it was like 3am , maybe 4am, and I had been working on that all night, so I not only forgot to tag the talk page, but forgot to add the categories, lol. Thanks as always, my dear Squid Guy! ArielGold 20:15, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your note[edit]

Happy if I could help. :) --Moonriddengirl 22:25, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't think you'd said so. :) I believe that the other user just wasn't really familiar with the vandalism fighting process. Anyway, I think you did the right thing leaving the page and letting it settle down. --Moonriddengirl 22:33, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tribute to "the Marine"

I would like to pay a small tribute in this edition to Tony "the Marine". Editing since May 24, 2004, he has been one of our project's most active editors and has become one of Wikipedia's most recognized writers. He has authored over 400 articles, including 4 Featured Articles, 1 Featured List, 10 Good Articles, and 28 DYKs. His name has appeared in newspapers and magazines and has been mentioned by politicians and artists. He has brought Puerto Rico's history and its people to the web. He has shown the world that Puerto Ricans have done much more than just be gangsters and drug dealers. He has shown the world that we have contributed to history and the world just as much as any other group of people.

On September 29, 2007, Tony announced that we would not be writing for Wikipedia anymore. We, the members of this project, are sad that he will not be able to continue to spread the word of Hispanics' contributions here on the web, but I, for one, feel honored that he has entrusted us with the duty of continuing and improving his excellent work.

Tony, rest assured that your contributions, your wisdom, and the help you provided to all of us when we were new users will be remembered for generations. Que Dios te bendiga, Tony, y que tu recompensa sea grande en el Reino de los Cielos.

Viva Puerto Rico libre. —Agüeybaná 16:52, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speechless[edit]

Eddie, I don't know what to say. I am humbled and speechless with your tribute to me. It was a total surprise, thank you. I want you to know that I will be checking in on things in Wikipedia and that as a good "patriota" i will always be there for my people and for my beloved island whenever needed. As I have said before, I will be more tranquilo once you have achieved adminship, which will be soon. Tony the Marine 21:35, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blah, I saw that coming, lol[edit]

I knew that was going to get tagged. I was typing as fast as I could to get it so it wouldn't be CSD'd, lol. Unfortunately, IMDB can't be used, so we'll have to find some WP:RSs for it. I actually question the notability, but the AFC submission was written well, so hey. I also hid the comment about the mistress part, per WP:BLP, hope you don't mind! ArielGold 22:35, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ugh. [8] Zero archive results. [9] Zero news results. 8 hits for Glory Annen Clibbery on a general Google search. None of them are RS. Leaving out the middle name, about 434 hits for Glory Clibbery, found one good one, adding it now (although it isn't very flattering). ArielGold 22:44, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've added three respected references, but you may want to re-write the article, as it seems the subject is known not for her acting, but for this affair and the controversy it caused. Go figure. ArielGold 22:54, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, there are now a ton of refs, and very little text. I think the article could use a good re-writing, after reading all those refs, it seems it is actually kind of confusing. They were together, they split up, he claimed she was nothing more than a "paid mistress", and UK law doesn't allow "common law marriage", so he attempted to have her evicted, as well as the lawsuit to keep her from discussing the affair, it went to court multiple times, appeals, etc., and all the refs are clumped together. lol. I'm not good with legal stuff, so maybe someone else would want to re-write it from the sources on the page. Anyway, the groundwork is definitely laid with refs, lol.
