Thanks for uploading Image:Mru Dancing.jpg; it's a great picture. The tag you placed on it is a little odd though. Do you confirm that you took it and that you're releasing it under the GFDL? If so, please replace the {{GFDL-presumed}}tag with {{GFDL-self}}. Just a technicality, but I'd be grateful if you could attend to this. Thanks. Chick Bowen 15:45, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Ma Anandamayi01.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ma Anandamayi01.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Image Tagging for Image:Jazmin i.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Jazmin i.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

I have taken this picture (Jazmin i.jpg) from an website which has in turn taken it from an unspecified DVD capture. Though this pictures generally are supposed to be "fair use", and there is no indication anywhere that this particular picture is not so, I have tried and included as much information as I can. Since I know little of the use of license tags, and reading the special page have helped little to that regard I expect my fellow wikipeadians to help me to keep the picture posted. (Aditya Kabir 18:54, 22 June 2006 (UTC))
The copyright holder must be identified. Just noting that you found the image on a search engine and that it came from an unspecified DVD is not sufficient. The DVD must be identified. Then, the image can only be used to provide critical commentary on the DVD in question, not solely to depict the actress. This applies also to Image:Jazmin Smile.jpg and to any other image you have uploaded with this source and rationale. --Yamla 15:11, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Images of Jazmin on your userpage

Hi, fair use images must not be used in user space - their use is limited to article space and that too for relevant articles. Pl. remove them from your userpage asap. TIA, --Gurubrahma 05:48, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:CKNGadi.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:CKNGadi.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 15:16, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

I thought I did notify you about that one! Sorry. The problem is, fair-use images must be used in an article. If they aren't used in any article, they are to be deleted. That one wasn't. Please feel free to reupload it, though, if it is going to be used in an article. --Yamla 20:17, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Hello. I came to the Shabaug article via your message on Ragib's page. The image - Image:Shahabag sat01.png - has been marked for speedy deletion by me. Google earth images are under the copyright of google. Google prohibits the commercial use of these images and such images are not allowed on wikipedia. - Aksi_great (talk) 18:14, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia is a non-commercial site. But our content is under the GFDL licence. A clause in the GFDL licence reads "You may copy and distribute the Document in any medium, either commercially or noncommercially". Which means that all information on wikipedia can be used for commercial purposes. Which means that the image you uploaded may be used for commercial purposes by someone else even if it is not used by wikipedia for commercial purposes. Please see this and also this for more about the topic. Please feel free to contact me for any more help. - Aksi_great (talk) 18:33, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Ganguly family (films): Copyvio Gallery

Every image I checked (and I'll freely admit that I did not check every single one) was licensed as a film screenshot. That means that the image may be used "for identification and critical commentary on the film and its contents", not solely to identify and depict a person. The gallery was not even identifying the films, let alone using the images to provide critical commentary on them. It was solely a gallery of people, thus was violating the image licenses. If you haven't been able to follow what I've just said, please let me know. --Yamla 18:45, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Additionally, I was unable to find even a single image which had a detailed hand-written fair-use rationale for any use on the Wikipedia, let alone specifically for the gallery. Note also under WP:FUC, we are only permitted to use freely-licensed images to depict living people. --Yamla 18:45, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Note that WP:FUC has recently become stricter. As noted above, we are no longer allowed to use copyrighted non-free images (that is, images not in the public domain or licensed under GFDL or CC) to depict living people. --Yamla 18:47, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

(Responding to your comment, not quoted) Absolutely. It seems to be a bigger problem amongst the articles on Indian actors compared to Hollywood actors and I'm not sure why, though it's a big problem throughout the Wikipedia. Thank you for your calm inquiry on my discussion page. --Yamla 18:56, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Please help

BJBot has deleted two images I uploaded (Image:Chaltikanaam.gif and Image:Gangulybros01.jpg), along with all the painstaking work that went into rationalizing fair use and citing sources and authors, because they were lying about quite orphaned. Very unfortunate, because I was busy at the time and could not check on WP much, if at all.

They were not orphans to begin with, but rather was a part of the Ganguly family (films) article. A certain user (User:Prince Godfather) removed them from the article and reinstated a completely copyvio image gallery removed much earlier from the page. This amazing deed was reverted by another user, but it was too late for the two images I mentioned.

Please note, that this particular user has been accused of sockpuppetry, has broken all civility guidelines, contributes a great deal without any regard for verifiability or citation policies, practices vandalism, was blocked from WP once or twice, is engaged in quite a few edit wars... and has responded very unfavorably when I questioned his behavior about the images in discussion.

I am checking this user as much as I can, though without the tools available to admins it's quite an arduous task. But, whatever happens to this amazing user, I'd very much like to have those images back on Wikipedia. I have learned the ropes for fair use policies the hard way, and am weary of the task of reinstating the info and rationales that require.

It would be very helpful if you could tell me what do I have to do in getting those two images back along with the rationale and info back to the article I mentioned. Can anyone help, please? Aditya Kabir 15:56, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Aditya Kabir:
Both images were deleted by User:Misza13, an administrator on English Wikipedia, on 9 February 2007, with the reason being: Unused unfree copyrighted image. (WP:CSD#I5) (see here and here). I would suggest contacting Misza13 and requesting a copy of the images' description pages, rationales, etc. You can also try posting at Wikipedia:Deletion_review, or asking one of the admins listed here (although I'm not sure whether the latter includes requests for deleted images, or articles only). Alternatively, you can re-upload the images, but perhaps posting at Wikipedia_talk:Copyrights/Can_I_use... before uploading, to ensure that you don't run into the same problems again.
Hope this helps! —XhantarTalk 16:21, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi. That wasn't really necessary to write such epic stories about the images, the user who removed them etc. It's absolutely no big deal when an image gets deleted, because it can be restored just as easily. And that's exactly what I have done now, and what you should've just asked for, without going into lengths about User:Prince Godfather's conduct. :) You are welcome to re-add them back to the article (and do it ASAP, before they get tagged again). What would be the copyright status of a collage?

You asked: "If I made photo collage of copyrighted images what would be the copyright implications? Please, answer to my talk page."

You would own the copyright to the collage itself but each individual image would remain copyrighted to the original holder. So yes, multiple copyright holders. So, let's say I made a collage of film screenshots. I would own the copyright to the collage itself but would not be able to publish or distribute it because copyright would also be owned by each of the movie companies. --Yamla 15:52, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Riya Sen images

Hello, I deleted Image:Ananthabhadram Riya.jpg and Image:Riya Book.png on March 27 while clearing out the replaceable fair use image backlog. The fair use claim on the first image Image:Riya book.png was in clear contradiction to Wikipedia fair use criteria, despite your claim that "Wikipedia doesn't seem to agree". The argument that any particular modeling shoot is an irreproducible historic event is flawed, as that reasoning could be applied in order to appropriate an indefinite number of copyrighted commercial imagery. There are numerous factors to consider when dealing with a claim of fair use under US copyright law, including the potential effect on market value, and character of use. Wikipedia policy is very strict in order to tread carefully around such fair use issues, so it discourages anything other than the most circumspect fair use claims - and then only when such claims are absolutely necessary. If there is even a possibility of acquiring a free-license alternative which might adequately communicate the same information (clearly the model's appearance, in this case), then any rationale for fair use of a copyrighted image is rendered moot.

Looking over User talk:Aditya Kabir/Archive 2, it appears that you have ample experience in dealing with WP:IUP. Because of this I think it is reasonable to assume that you have an ample understanding both of the nuances of process and the overall goal behind Wikipedia image management. Further, as you were obviously aware of its deletion, you have apparently kept track of Image:Riya Book.png Image:Ananthabhadram Riya.jpg, and should have been aware of Yamla's tagging it with {{nrd}} on March 10. That I deleted this image some two weeks later should not have come as any sort of surprise to you, though I am sorry if it did. If you would care to provide a rationale for use of this image, or, better yet, add to the article some critical commentary on the film scene in question, then I will consider undeletion. Regards, ˉˉanetode╦╩ 10:43, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Sorry for being unclear, I confused the two images in my response. There is no image policy page specific to film screenshots, aside perhaps from Template talk:Film-screenshot itself. After looking over Ananthabhadram, I think that the current usage of Image:Ananthabhadram Riya.jpg appears to be in line with fair use policy. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 18:37, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Please, check

You said: "I have uploaded Image:Ananthabhadram Riya.jpg again, this time for use on the article on the movie Ananthabhadram. The screenshot is of that movie, and it has detailed rationale this time. Please, tell me if it is alright this time."

I couldn't find any critical commentary on this particular scene in Ananthabhadram. Can you please point out which part of the article is providing critical commentary that necessitates adding this image to the article? It is entirely possible that I just can't find it. --Yamla 17:37, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Aditya Kabir. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:ElmersCamera.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Aditya Kabir/Monkey's nest. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 02:02, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:PakistaniPoon.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:PakistaniPoon.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. —Angr 14:15, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Alimullah.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Alimullah.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 09:30, 19 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NAHID 09:30, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:Ananthabhadram Kavya.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ananthabhadram Kavya.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Re: What did I fail to understand?

I read over the commentary on the image itself (it was not a quickly done deletion as so many others of mine are). The issue I felt raised was was #8 on WP:FUC, that of significance. In reviewing the case for fairuse, I did not see how this particular image added significance to the articles, in that they merely showed a model posing, of whom we have at least one free image already. I could be wrong, but that's how I read it. ^demon[omg plz] 06:31, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:JayneMariePlayboy.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:JayneMariePlayboy.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 08:28, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Just because you write "The image accompanies ample critical description of a specific historical happening that is directly linked with the subject's notability" and "Its presence significantly increases readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding" doesn't make it so. While it may possibly be significant that Miss Mansfield was the first Playmate daughter of a former playmate (although I doubt it), this image doesn't show us that. The image has nothing specifically to do with the topic discussed in the section "The first". If you want to make a coherent rationale for using this image, the article has to discuss this image, saying why this particular photograph itself is iconic or historic. Otherwise it's just a fair use image showing what a living person looks like, speedily deletable under WP:CSD#I7. —Angr 13:41, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
At the moment, there is nothing you can do to the rationale to justify the use of the image. The way the image is being used in the article is inconsistent with Wikipedia policy. This particular image is not significantly related to the fact that Jayne Marie Mansfield was the first nude Playmate whose mother was also a nude Playmate. If this photograph itself is historically significant or iconic in some way, the article needs to discuss that. If not, it should be deleted. —Angr 17:43, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Ah meester

First of all all you have to do is set the template to state=collapsed. Secondly I have no idea what you mean about the filmrationale tmeplate. I haven't used that in months. See the image for Yaadein etc or this template here. I copy and paste this and then always add the correct title the image is being used on I'm only too aware of bots. All of the image guys I've come acorss are happy with me new template system. Providing the images which currently use {filmrationale) on are replaced with full adequate rationales then the old template can be deleted ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 14:02, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Also see this template for biographies. This is a which I used when uploading all images on decased people where fair use can be claimed not just actors and film directors. Feel free to copy them if you find them useful. I find them extremely useful as I often upload an industrial amount of images across wikipedia and you'll see them appearing in images from burmese or algerian prime ministers to Cuban racing drivers and poets!. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 14:22, 30 November 2007 (UTC) P.S "Bombing away" -LOL -excellent analogy! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 14:23, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Image up for deletion

Hi, Adita. Thanks for the note. My understanding of fair-use images is that they are basically forbidden simply to illustrate a living person. Since the image in question (Worship This Bitch) is of a DVD, it would not be permitted to illustrate the article on the star. However if the article is about the DVD, or if there is a significant section about the DVD at the article on the star, an image of the cover to that DVD is allowable. Good luck! A tag has been placed on Template:Member Bangladesh Geography Workgroup requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Sure, it's not being used anyways, and the respective user category doesn't even exist. On top of that, the workgroup itself runs at a pretty lazy pace. Aditya(talkcontribs) 13:35, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Cover Bangladesh Booty.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Cover Bangladesh Booty.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --04:31, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Bir Sreshtho Medal.png}

Thank you for uploading Image:Bir Sreshtho Medal.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. List of Prime Ministers of Bangladesh

Dear, we may change the existing list of Prime Minister's Of Bangladesh. Why will we add the Head of the Government at the List of Prime Ministers of Bangladesh? But we may include another column to show the status of the Prime Ministers (eg. Head of the Govt or Head of the State). Presidents should not be included here. Please let me know.--Anwarul Islam (talk) 10:09, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

First off, the Image: namespace is now a redirect to File:, so it doesn't need to be image rather than file. I'm afraid I don't know much about non-free images, I'd just find some way to put "all rights reserved" on it and leave it at that. -mattbuck (Talk) 13:01, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey mate, I finally got around to finding a tankini image like you asked. Unfortunately, not too much luck. The only free one is this, which isn't great. I did however find a rabbit wearing a tankini. However, I've left messages for several people asking if they'll relicence, and the photographer of this picture has given permission in private, just getting the licence changed. Oh, and I remember being involved in an argument over a c-string image. Well, I found this one, but can't remember where the argument was, so figured I'd just let you know. -mattbuck (Talk) 04:33, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Thing is, that wasn't even a difficult copyvio - would have failed flickrreview automatically, if the bot were working atm. But we get tonnes of copyvios on commons - that one guy uploaded about 20 images. -mattbuck (Talk) 19:48, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

While searching for tankini images, I came across the "trikini" quite a bit - might be notable. -mattbuck (Talk) 17:21, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Your changes to the Bikini Waxing article have been reverted

I've had to restore the image for a second time. It is entirely consistent with other articles on body modification such as the tatoo article or genital piercing to illustrate the article with images that show examples of such processes. Even though the image doesn't explicitly state it is the result of a wax the results are consistent with those that are. The only legitimate reason for removing the photo would be if the effect clearly couldn't be produced by waxing, or clearly states that the effect was not the result of waxing. Neither of those criteria apply to the image in question. The case for replacing the photo would be if one could be found that clearly stated it was the result of the waxing process or better illustrated the process. In this case it would be appropriate to remove the current photo and replace with another. However, the recent changes to the article have been clearly to remove the photo without making any attempt to replace it. This can only constitute a censorious agenda and consitutes vandalism to the article. If it persists then article protection will have to be applied for. Betty Logan (talk) 04:22, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, ignore this. I didn't scan down the article so hadn't realise you had only relocated the image. Please accept my apologies. Betty Logan (talk) 04:36, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Bikini waxing

The missing image is has the template: To prevent the use of this image for vandalism, it can only be used on pages for which it is specifically allowed. To use this image legitimately, such as in an article about human anatomy or physiology, contact an administrator either directly or by posting a request on the administrators' noticeboard or MediaWiki talk:Bad image list. Looks like just more en.wp admins being tetchy about anything vaguely penis-related to me, there's no reason to have this image protected. -mattbuck (Talk) 16:18, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

I've asked for it to be removed from the list, with the rationale that it would be much easier to abuse Image:Fremont Solstice Parade 3.jpg - a naked unicyclist juggling - than this one. -mattbuck (Talk) 16:25, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
This sort of shit is why I prefer commons. We don't keep obscure lists of stuff you're not allowed to use which is no different than 1000 other images you can. That being said, there is an ongoing debate over whether Peter Klashorst images should be included, whether they violate model rights, possibly use underage models, etc etc etc. Just you're right, en.wp has so much fucking red tape. -mattbuck (Talk) 03:26, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Photos

Are meant to illustrate a point, so it is accepted (and I suggest you look as any FA for use of photos) that is two pictures essentially portray the same thing then only one needs to be kept, hence one of those pictures is redundant. By all means put the other picture back in, but you would have to remove the other. Also you are on your third revert on that page so I would step back from it for a while and you may want to read WP:OWN, I understand you have done a lot of work to that page, kudos, but you don't own it and wikipedia policies and guidelines trump everything. I would suggest you give them a quick read, if you were un-aware that articles are not meant to be overload with pictures then it suggests you are not fully versed in the finer points of WP. Darrenhusted (talk) 16:12, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

You weren't trapped in to 3RR, you made three reverts, you could have stopped after the first, or the second however you didn't. The other editor said "superfluous" and "redundant", you reverted saying to build a consensus on the talk page but you didn't make a case for keeping the image. Instead you attacked those who had reverted you and implied a 3RR trap. If you want consensus then you have it, at the moment, 2:1 to keep the image out as it is redundant. The two images show the same thing, so if you want, pick which one is the best, then keep that but there is no point in having two images showing the exact same thing. And on the talk page the other editor did already establish a consensus, in August, when the picture was changed. You stated in November that you wanted to get it up to FA, that's not going to happen with two pictures. You need to show a whale tail (on a whale) a whale tail (on a car) and a whale tail (on a woman). The article has these, duplicate pictures would be the first thing that an FA reviewer would ask to be changed. You got the article to GA, but fighting over something that goes against policy is never going to improve an article. Darrenhusted (talk) 17:47, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Jayne Mansfield

Please understand that I have no quarrel with you, but I believe you are not approaching this fairly. If you ask a question such as you did here, you should be gracious enough to accept the reply how and where the person chooses to reply, within reason. When that person gives you the reply to your question, it is not good faith to remove it with an edit summary like removing inappropriate over-zealous addition. Is that good faith? If this user has a reason for listing the image for deletion, it can only help the reviewing admin to see what it is. If it has no validity it may influence them to keep the image, or if it has validity it may influence them to delete it. It's not harming anyone for the comment to be there, and there is nothing to say that it can't be there.

I have dealt with User:Wbrz before, and he is the last editor I would defend, however on this one point, I agree with him. The notes that he removed were on his talk page and he's allowed to remove them if he wishes. He's obviously seen them, and if he wants to remove them, he can. With the first message you left, you're edit summary was "General note: Vandalism on Jayne Mansfield". You should not be calling another editor a vandal just because you don't agree with them. That takes the form of a personal attack. His edits were not vandalism - you just didn't like them. Stensonharry was also ill-advised in commenting about his removal of the warning. He does not have to keep it on his talk page. The explanation is at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace - "....be sure to remember that any editor—including anonymous IPs—may remove messages at will from their own talk page." Wbrz has done nothing wrong in removing them. That does not mean you have the right to remove another editors comments from a page other than your own talk page, unless they are vandalism, or are off-topic. The comment on the image page isn't exactly the way it should be done, but it's not vandalism and it's not off-topic, so in fairness, there is no reason for removing the comment. Rossrs (talk) 05:05, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Right? Actually no it's not right. In fact I think I've said it very clearly that I think you are wrong. You've taken everything I've said, which I did take the time to explain carefully, and boiled it down to one point that you have still not managed to get right. It's almost like you didn't read anything I wrote. You're not obliged to, of course, so let's just end this side discussion. Rossrs (talk) 11:26, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
You don't have to get a point through to me and continuing to badger me with your opinion, is not going to change my mind. Just because I don't agree with you, does not mean I don't see your point. If you felt the comment belonged on the talk page, you could have moved it there. Simple. Instead you invite a comment and then delete the response with an impolite edit summary. I've already acknowledged that putting the note on the main page wasn't the best option, but for you to just delete it as though it never existed, is also not right. The image description page is not the best place for comments, but it is often used that way, and as I said before, there is nothing to say that it is wrong. Now please, I'm not going to continue discussing this. It was a very small point and it's become a large point. Rossrs (talk) 13:33, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
No hard feelings. It's OK. Rossrs (talk) 21:56, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh stop it. I'm not inflamed. YOU choose to use Twinkle, YOU are responsible for the edit summary it produces. The point is that another user is allowed to remove the message from his talk page. Now, let go of this please. Rossrs (talk) 21:50, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Sharmila tagore in bikini.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Sharmila tagore in bikini.jpg. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Sharmila tagore in bikini.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Sharmila tagore in bikini.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. damiens.rf 04:21, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

It's not an "Archie comic" (which is why I didn't understand your question the first time you asked). It's just evidence that the bikini was known about in the U.S. in 1947, and it wasn't considered inconceivable that high-school girls there would sometimes wear it. This is also a free image... Edit, Revert, Discuss

I have left a posting for discussion. I personally believe that the poster (as a free image depicting her more or less nude) trumps the fair use image. Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:50, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

  • As noted on Commons, current US copyright law is that worḖks published between 1923 and 1977 are public domain if they did not include a copyright notice (among other possibilities). This has led to some high quality posters, such as that for The Mummy (1932 film) and Island of Lost Men being public domain. As to why there was a FU file, I'm assuming nobody bothered to look for a high quality scan to see if there was a copyright notice or not. Not everyone knows about the PD posters, although studios eventually began to add notices more diligently.
As for the edit notice, I'm assuming (I forget exactly how I did mine) that whatever you put at User talk:Aditya Kabir/Editnotice will show up as an edit notice here. Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:41, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
  • We could also run it past WP:MCQ, or the equivalent on Commons. Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:58, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
  • I asked Quadell, who has a strong layman's understanding of image copyright, to weigh in. As a side note, Night of the Living Dead (the film, not the poster) is also PD because they neglected to write "(C) Walter Reade Organization 1968" or whatever. It's an odd rule, I'll admit. Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:08, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
  • Quadell has replied and agrees that the posters are PD. Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:29, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
  • For free images, you may try to look at trailers featuring her. If the trailer was released before the film, before 1977, and without a copyright notice, it's free. That's how we have a free image of Marilyn Monroe in her famous white dress. Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:23, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Ursula Andress in bikini.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Ursula Andress in bikini.jpg.

Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 01:16, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Jenny van Tassel.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Jenny van Tassel.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Better source request for some of your uploads

Thanks for your uploads to Wikipedia. There is an issue with some of them, specifically:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the images because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the images, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image files themselves. Please update the image descriptions with URLs that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 03:07, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
