British English[edit]

Please take care when correcting spellings in an article that you are not making an arbitary change away from British or some other variant of English spelling as you did here and here. Thank you. Gaius Cornelius (talk) 22:34, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour Addihockey[edit]

I am a new member of wikipedia. I seeks for a bilingual wikimentor (English-French) to help me to understand better all the facets of Wikipedia. A Bilingual wikimentor because my English language is very summary and I am here on English wikipedia to learn better to write the English language. I am a sporting passionate person. Especially the soccer and the Hockey. But more Women's sports this because of my 2 daughters. I thank you for reading my demand of wikimentor.

Good evening, I thank you for having to agree to sponsor me. I understands that you have your studies and your private life. I have a work and a family. We shall do the best for us --Charlesquebec (talk) 00:43, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For the next week, I have many corrections to be made of pages. I would like to learn how to put photos and Logos in pages wikipedia. So I shall like changing the logo of a club of soccer in the page Quebec City Amiral SC because it is the former logo Arsenal which appears. The new logo Amiral is in the french page here http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiral_SC_de_Qu%C3%A9bec I have to try repeatedly to make the transfer of the image but something does not work. ce sera tout pour moi cette semaine car mon club les Carabins jouent au soccer vendredi soir et dimanche, En plus une de mes 2 filles commence sa saison de hockey samedi --Charlesquebec (talk) 11:09, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sandbox7 texte terminé ne manque que la correction finale de Addihockey10

Merci beaucoup. Thank you for all. I am going to try to change the logo on this page Quebec City Amiral SC for this logo http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:LogoAmiral.gif Bon we pour toi --Charlesquebec (talk) 21:20, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Transcluded from the RfA[edit]

Okay. I'll give you exactly what the community is (or at least should be) looking for.

  1. Go to Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list and read up on all the pages in the sections "Should already know", "Content policies", "Copyright", and "Controversy". Also read the first four pages in "Deletion"
  2. Go and demonstrate your newfound knowledge by participating in AfD, the various other fDs, and possibly AN/I, AN/3RR, and the Help Desk.
  3. Careful on AN/I, as it has the habit of bringing the worst out of people. It feeds on drama and incivility. You can gain a lot of respect and trust by consistently keeping your cool at AN/I. That being said, pick your battles, not even the admins participate in every single issue.
  4. You got the vandalism fighting down, but you might also want to be on the lookout for improper usernames and edit warring.
  5. As important as 2, 3, and 4 are, the modern RfA will almost always fail if there is no content creation to go along with the vandalism fighting. Do constructive editing: Make an article or two, join a wikiproject or several projects, work on article promotions (GA, FA, and FL), or do a little bit of copy editing. Heck, do all four if you want. Other avenues include Featured Pictures, Spoken Wikipedia, the Signpost ect. Find something that unequivocally adds content and value to the project, and then set out and do it.
  6. Follow the RfA nominations of others, whether you vote or not, to see what the community standards are. You can see what is being looked for without throwing your name in the hat.
  7. Never, never, never, be afraid to ask for help, advice, or a friendly review by other respected editors. The worst thing they can do is say no, but if they accept, their advice and guideance will be helpful.
  8. Don't get yourself blocked. It really hurts your chances. That means avoiding edit wars and vandalism. It's not hard to avoid being blocked, but I figured I'd mention it anyways.
  9. Finally, spend at least six months, though preferably nine or twelve months, doing the above before throwing your name in the hat again. If you manage to follow this guideline, plus any other suggestions that get appended to it by others, I can't see why you won't be successful the next time around.

Best of luck, see you around. Sven Manguard Talk 21:14, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You know what`s funny? I was just doing that ;) Thanks! --Addihockey10e-mail 21:19, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Doing what, reading Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list? Sven Manguard Talk 21:26, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I believe I did touch on some of those pages before but some are new. --Addihockey10e-mail 21:27, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's a good reading list. I've read most of it. Also, I just wanted to make sure that you know my oppose !vote was nothing personal. If you look at my recommendations, you'll see that I have somewhat high standards. I do believe though that that is an excellent guideline and that if you follow it, by this time next year you'll be an outstanding candidate. Sven Manguard Talk 21:32, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What will also help is adding rationales to your AfD comments. AfD is not a vote; "delete" doesn't mean anything. ("Per above" doesn't mean anything, either.) So basically, without any reason for your comment, it's going to be ignored by the closing admin. See also WP:ATA. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 22:07, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there Addihockey, I understand that going through 3 RFA's and failing at them all may be a bit tough but if you work in your weaker areas, you could very well pass RFA #4 next year. If you need any help in working in admin or "semi-"admin related areas, give me a ping (I'm not an admin but a regular over at DYK and other places that admins generally work at) I'd also be more than happy to help you our with working on content :) All the best,--White Shadows Your guess is as good as mine 22:33, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

1 support (and a moral one) and 19 opposes, I really think you should withdraw the RFA. The opposers already said what they had to say. I could also Mentor you if you wish. I was an adminstrator (until ArbCom desysopped me because of some stupid mistake I've done) and a highly respected member of the community. What do you think. Secret account 00:38, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Topic ban[edit]

You have just had your third RFA closed as hopeless in a few weeks. I'd like to ask you to voluntarily topic-ban yourself from running for adminship for a period of one year. Continuing to post such RFAs shows a lack of ability to learn from your mistakes, something that is expected of all administrators. We don't have to be perfect, but we do have to be able to recognize our own errors and learn from them. Please indicate whether you agree to this sanction. Beeblebrox (talk) 01:06, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

fr-5?[edit]

Cher Addihockey10,

Merci! --Addihockey11 (talk) 05:07, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, je comprends, /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 03:40, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please excuse my conversing in English, but I feel more comfortable using my native language to write. You can download freeware that will allow you to insert accents (for example, when holding the function key.) The rest is just a matter of using a white out pen to mark which keys do what on the keyboard. Good luck. Sven Manguard Talk 19:55, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh don`t worry :) Thanks for letting me know about the accents, I`m just learning how to use newer computers (I originally had a tank) and now I have a state-of-the-art Windows 7 laptop ;) so the FN key is new to me. One thing I notice is sometimes I push the wrong button when I`m typing and when I try to put a question mark I get an é, I don`t know what button this is but it`s irritating me. Could someone help? --Addihockey10e-mail 20:11, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Username[edit]

Why do you think CcC UM (talk · contribs) is an offensive name? Can you add a comment in WP:UAA to clarify? Cheers,  Chzz  ►  03:59, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, right, found your comment. I think that is a little bit too enthusiastic; it could refer to lots of other things, and we have to assume good faith (until proven otherwise).
I think, probably, that Holidayinncambodia (talk · contribs) wasn't a blatant violation either; I suspect it refers to the (really rather excellent) song, Holiday in Cambodia.
However, I notice that most of your efforts in UAA are excellent, so keep it up. Just remember to assume good faith, and if in doubt, err on the side of caution and either discuss it directly with the user concerned (on their talk page), or hold off until they edit. For such borderline cases, it's best to take a note and check back (next day or something) to see if action is needed.
But, as I say - this is just 'constructive criticism' - keep up the good work. And thanks v much for not only responding, but courteously letting me know. Best,  Chzz  ►  20:13, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA[edit]

Thank you for participating in my RfA
Hello Addihockey10, and thank you for participating in my RfA, which failed with 20 support votes, 34 oppose votes, and 11 neutral votes. All the feedback was much appreciated, and the concerns that were brought up are surely not falling on deaf ears. I will strive to listen to everyone's feedback in the days, weeks, and months to come, and I hope that I will eventually be able to gain the community's trust and receive the admin tools so I can further benefit this encyclopedia. Happy editing! –Access Denied (talk)

Re: Checkuser[edit]

Sorry for the delay. I think a checkuser here would be unnecessary - the email you sent me appears to be an open admission that these accounts are controlled if not by the same person, at least from the same computer, which is all I'll be able to tell with CU anyway. Request reason:

Hi - I'm blocked from editing on my iPhone from the IP address 204.236.136.13 - I would like to be unblocked by getting IPBE so I can edit on my iPhone. Thanks!

Decline reason:

This is an all wiki range block - block data is 01:12, 21 July 2010: Bastique (meta.wikimedia.org) globally blocked 204.236.128.0/17 (no expiry set) (Cross-wiki spam: Amazon Web Services - Service has been used for trojan/spam attacks - Little or no good edits - Please email info@wikimedia.org if you are affected by this block) (unblock locally) - suggest follow instructions in block notice.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:11, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Um, I'm hardly an expert on this, but the situation Ronhjones describes sounds to me like exactly the situation when we do grant an IP exemption: a clearly good user caught inadvertently in the middle of a rangeblock that can't be lifted. I'm going to ask a checkuser to take a look at this. Newyorkbrad (talk) 23:49, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Escudo-udlap.svg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Hey, thanks for your continued efforts there. We need dedicated editors keeping an eye out for bad usernames. That said, unless the name is grossly offensive, please don't report them until they edit. We can't tell the intent of a seemingly promotional username until they've made an edit and, if they never do edit (which happens a lot), it's just a waste of time. Garth Celyn or Abergwyngregyn[edit]

Hi, thanks for communicating about your revert. You changed Abergwyngregyn, which is known and documented as the site of a royal hall, back to Garth Celyn, which isn't though it is claimed as such by a local organization. In fact I'd think it better to remove the entire sentence "It was a menacing finger pointing directly to Garth Celyn, the headquarters of the Prince of Wales prior to the Edwardian conquest of 1283, on the opposite shore." as it appears to be original research. But in any case, could I trouble you to remove the vandalism warning from my talk page? Civis Romanus (talk) 23:28, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Since you seem to know how these work, if the checkuser request is removed, would this go faster? because (s)he is just making more socks as this goes on. JDDJS (talk) 23:24, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If the checkuser request is removed, it doesn't necessarily mean it'll go quicker. Also, if we do a CU we could potentially find a "sleeper" account (ones you may have missed on the Sockpuppet investigation). I'd say leave it as it is right now, there doesn't seem to be CUs online at the moment. --Addihockey10e-mail 23:29, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
