Recall initiated against MBisanz[edit]

Brrryce (talk · contribs) has instigated an administrator recall request against MBisanz (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA), alleging that his deletion of African Americans in Davenport, Iowa (talk|edit|history|logs|links|watch) (XfD|restore) constituted an abuse of his admin tools. I have been asked to clerk this process, and am posting this notice here pursuant to MBisanz's recall policy. This policy stipulates that if five administrators meeting specified criteria endorse the recall request within 48 hours, MBisanz will either resign adminship or initiate a reconfirmation RFA. As I am posting this notice at a number of locations, I would suggest that all discussion be centralized at User talk:MBisanz/Recall. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 19:22, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Aleksandr Chikvaidze[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Aleksandr Chikvaidze, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Has been unsourced for 3 months, fails the sourcing requirement at WP:BLP

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Specific request for translation[edit]

Hello, I picked your username out of recent contributors who are listed at Spanish to english translation. There is a current discussion at Administrators' Noticeboard/Incidents regarding a spanish speaking user uploading copyrighted material in bulk. Rather than simply block the user (which I would do if I was sure the multiple warnings had been received clearly), I would like to be able to establish some contact before escalating the situation. Could you post a message at User talk:MRDU08 explaining our copyright policy and the situation he or she is in? I think that the most recent message left could serve as a good template. Thanks in advance for any help you can render. Protonk (talk) 21:59, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ok. Can you think of anyone off the top of your head who might be available? I found a lot of folks on that list who have long since ceased to be active editors. Protonk (talk) 22:09, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

List of designated terrorist organizations[edit]

Hi Academic Challenger. Could you please explain why my edits are being reverted here: List of designated terrorist organizations? Am I doing something against WP rules? Thank you for help! Chippolona (talk) 12:05, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for getting back. Appreciate it. But doesn't inclusion in reports about terrorism mean that the US government designated ASALA as terrorist in the 1990s? In that case, ASALA could be listed as an organization, recognized as terrorist in the US (not in other countries). Chippolona (talk) 07:33, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

EXCLAIM PROD mentions your 2006 deletion of Exclaim[edit]

I want to let you known I cited your deletion of Exclaim back on 2 December 2006 as part of the reason for a PROD of EXCLAIM, an article about the same topic as the one you deleted. 67.100.222.181 (talk) 06:10, 21 May 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Saw you removed the PROD, noting "This is a much better article than that spam version a couple years ago, and while possibly it should be taken to AFD, I do see some notability"...fair enough. Bulgarians[edit]

Hi Challenger, new research tracing Bulgarian history to X century BC has dismissed the nomadic origin of Bulgarians. The first Kingdom was founded in Pamir/Hindokush and was called Balgara with capital Balg (also known as Bactra) in ca VI. BC. This state existed to ab. VI century AD. Parallel to Old Great Bulgaria. The exodus has been a long process due to invasion of the mongols the Bulgarians left their states to found several states subsequently: Old Great Bulgaria, Volga Bulgaria, etc. They have never been a nomadic tribe, because they had cities (Balhara was called the state of the thousand cities). They have been constantly fighting off nomadic invasion by their states. If you have any questions, write on gergana30@yahoo.de and I will provide you with all sources. We must look for the truth and be precise as possible. As you want to challenge common views, you can help dismiss the turkic and nomadic theories about the origin of Bulgarians, which are not only wrong, but have done a lot of damage. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gergana30 (talkcontribs) 08:47, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Look at the Map!![edit]

Hi Challenger, have a look at this map! This shows the origin and movement of the Bulgarian Nation from Pamir (Balhara) to Old GReat Bulgaria and Volga Bulgaria. http://www.protobulgarians.com/ http://www.protobulgarians.com/Statii%20ot%20drugi%20avtori/Tambura%20bulgariya.htm Look at the map, it shows the states the Bulgarians have been creating since X BC. They have never been nomadic, because they had a Calendar, similar to the Chinese, which was completely unknown to the nomads. They have left their flourishing kingdoms to survive the mongol attacs. I dont know if you read bulgarian, but look - you have all sources available on the origin of Bulgarians on the net! Gergana30 (talk) 09:46, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Look at the Calendar![edit]

http://tangra-bg.org/eng/calendar.htm Hi Challenger, here is the link to the Bulgarian Calendar, which proves that the Bulgarians were a highly sophisticated civilisation and have never been nomadic. They fourded their first country in Central Asia, on the Silk road, where they contributed for the exchange of knowlede and wealth between the East and West, becoming one of the greatest empires themselves. They have been fighting off nomadic attacs, just like Rome, India and China. The first records of a Bulgarians are 5000 years BC! They have contributed greatly to the cultural and material wealth of Europe. To call Bulgarians nomads is not only wrong and will be refuted persistently, but it is damaging for the cultural heritage of Europe! Gergana30 (talk) 10:03, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Editors[edit]

The evidence that the Bulgarians have never been nomads is enormous. We have to support the truth. You can supply whatever evidence you want, but one single fact: the Calendar refutes the nomadic theory! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gergana30 (talkcontribs) 10:08, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

you have to help the truth![edit]

since you are assuming responsibility for the article, and you wrote it, you must correct it with the evidence. It is wrong, damaging and vandalism of European history. We have to write that the Bulgarians have never been nomads, because this is the evidence. Just one evidence: the Bulgarian Calendar refutes the nomadic theory no matter how many pseudo-scientists supply "evidence". The editors must do that.Gergana30 (talk) 10:12, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

can you help me add a map[edit]

I dont know how to do it. give me an e-mail address to send it to you. I have now made the corrections that reflect the truth. Can you please mediate with the other editors not to vandalise history here. Because nobody is going to tolerate it.Gergana30 (talk) 10:26, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request assistance[edit]

Dear Mr. Academic Challenge:

I red your profile, and I noticed that, of course, you are interested in academic articles and you speak spanish. So I was wondering if you can help me with this.

I'm interested in writing an article about the high school that I attended. It's an Aeronautic school located in Buenos Aires, it depends directly from the Argentinean Air Force. About 200 technicians graduate every year, the school was founded in 1957 it got above 1000 students. The school got its own hangar with about 7 planes 2 helicopters and a ultra-light plane along with different kind of engines, landing gears, measurement instruments, etc. It also has another career Avionics Technician which is about the electronics of the plane.

So what do you think? I can really use your help, by just reading it and telling me whats right, what's wrong, what to change, etc. Since it will be my first publication I want to start with the right foot.

Looking forward for your answer Guido. --Guidote2 (talk) 05:54, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

School's name[edit]

Dear Mr. Academic Challenger:

First of all, thank you for getting back to me so fast, and thank you for your help.

The school's official name it's "Escuela de Educación Técnica Número 7 - Taller Regional Quilmes" which it's abbreviated "EET Nº7 - TRQ", but the school it's best known for it's pseudonym "IMPA". I believe there isn't an article on wikipedia about it, although all I did was search it.

The school's website is http://www.impatrq.esc.edu.ar/.

Please let me know when I can send you the draft.

School's number & Draft[edit]

Dear Mr. Academic Challenger:

In Argentina non-private schools have a unique number and belong to a unique category(technical, commerce, or other public type) and they have also a name. for example this one is number 7 in the technical category and it's name is "Taller Regional Quilmes". The number is associated to the location of the school(I think... I'm not sure).

I'll send you the draft during the weekend. Once again thank you for everything

A name that needs a change[edit]

Dear administrator; I read an article Islamic Emirate of Waziristan related to Waziristan, Paksitan. It is written that this is an organization but no such organization exists, althoug ther are others. From where does the name Islamic emirate of waziristan come from?? If it is a group as mentioned then no group ever used this name. It is not mentioned in any sources out of the ones provided. The name should be changed or merged with Waziristan. It also wrongly points to other language articles on waziristan (arabic eg) which is not correct as the original article Waziristan also points to the same. Despite lot of time after this objection and no proof provided from any source, the name of the article has not been changed or merged with the original article on waziristan. I request administrators to take action.

I write to you because no decision has been taken since long time even though this has been discussed on the discussion page.

The article Night of Silence has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no third party content found indicating WP:N notability, only minor passing references in local papers listing the song in concert agenda

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.86.226.12 (talk) 17:47, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 942 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Great meeting today[edit]

Hi Academic Challenger, great meeting you today. Always a pleasure to meet fellow Wikipedians (especially those that go back to 2003!) in person. Hope to cross paths again. -- Fuzheado | Talk 01:51, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Translators Available Spanish-to-English[edit]

Hi, I notice you on the list of Translators Available Spanish-to-English

I have been working alot on various article related to FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. One of most resent (last October) people place on the list is Eduardo Ravelo. I think this article would benefit a translation into Spanish, as he heads the Barrio Azteca gang operating out of Juarez, Mexico and is a Mexican national. However, I do not know any Spanish so I am not able to request a translation to Spanish on Spanish Wikipedia as directed to do so by Wikipedia:Translation (see "Are you in the right place?" box Item #2). Would you be willing to help me out getting it listed as "request a translation into spanish"?:--ARTEST4ECHO talk 22:04, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Admin Coaching: Reconfirmation[edit]

I was looking through the coaches at Wikipedia:Admin_coaching/Status and saw that there are a lot under "reconfirmation".

Could you let me know if you are still interesting in being involved with Admin Coaching, or if you would prefer to have your name removed from the "reconfirmation" list and placed on the "retired" list. If you want to be involved, could you please move your entry from "Reconfirmation" to "Active" and indicate how many students you would be willing to have (obviously, if you are actively coaching at the moment, then please indicate this!)

If I do not hear from you within a week, I will assume that you would like to have your name removed from the list of coaches and moved to the retired list.

The article Fabio Berardi has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Completely unreferenced since May 2007.

Survey on gender[edit]

Hi! I'm Liria Veronesi (User:Akoha77) and, together with Paolo Massa (User:Phauly), I'm starting an empirical research on "Gender and votes in requests for adminship". For this reason, we need to know the gender of Wikipedians who were candidated to become admins.

We tried looking for the templates User:UBX/male and User:UBX/female but only 4 admins use it. We also used the API for getting the gender field in the profile but, out of 1744 admins, only around 400 have filled this field. But we would benefit from a larger coverage, i.e. possibly knowing the gender of 100% of candidates.

So, after asking for advice to 3 admins and receiving 2 positive replies (1 and 2), we decided to try to ask directly to Wikipedians.

Thus, would you be so kind to write your gender [Male / Female / Other], together with a text comment if you want, on my talk page at User_talk:Akoha77? If you prefer to send me this information privately, you can send me an email, the information will be kept confidential and never shared.

Thanks! Akoha77 (talk) 12:48, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia's "Exceptional Claims" Policy[edit]

A number of established doctorate professors did extensive studies. I wish to elucidate the scientific/medical studies that took place as well as their conclusions resulting from those studies, but a Wikipedia user flagged me for this.
If I were to plainly state that those established experts failed to find a scientific explanation for their observations, would that be the equivalent of asserting an exceptional claim--subjecting and limiting me to Wikipedia's exceptional claims policy? — Preceding unsigned comment added by COice6 (talkcontribs) 20:11, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm concerned with the deletion of the above referenced article. The edit summary merely stated "Chinese language, not encyclopedic". An article in a foreign language is not an appropriate rationale in accordance with our deletion policy. The appropriate response would have been to tag the article with {{notenglish}} tag and alert the creator with the need to translate the article within two weeks. You additionally indicated that the article was "not encyclopedic". However, this is an article about a world-renowned Chinese artist who has exhibited on an international basis. The subject is highly notable, meeting the topical notability guidelines for artists. He is also professor at the Academy of Fine Arts. Clearly, this article was inappropriately deleted. I am requesting that you revisit your actions and approach with the article creator. We certainly don't want to confuse new editors while additionally upholding actions that conflict with our deletion policy. I appreciate your time. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 09:51, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Still looking for a response here. Is it possible that there may have been some changes to the deletion policy since you became an administrator or were last active in editing here? Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 11:47, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Adelina Otero-Warren, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page 19th Amendment (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). MSU Interview[edit]

Dear Academic Challenger,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 18:03, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can't put online my article[edit]

I tried more than once but my article is always deleted. I don't do any advertisement, I just share some informations. Even more, Opti-time Company has also a page like mine, but it's not considered as a "spam".

It would be nice to tell me what I need to do ?

  • It's ok, I'm going to rewrite it according another company (like Microsoft).

Regards
