Vanessa Kingori's Wikipedia Page

Dear Abel,

I hope you are well.

I am Vanessa Kingori's Executive Assistant and she has tasked me with updating her Wikipedia page. I have credited the source of her photograph. I would be most grateful if you would kindly allow me to make these changes as they are instructions from Vanessa.

Thank you for assisting me with my work.

Smederevo-Vršac dialect

The reference link provided is dead, information on the dialect popped up from nowhere, as I'm a witness that that dialect is live and well and is still being used in Vršac. Please let me know why did you change everything back. Answer asap Kolikojerokoko (talk) 02:04, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

@Kolikojerokoko: There's no need to remove dead links. See WP:404. Also, you removed the reference section without explaining why. Regards ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 02:07, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

So I can remove the untrue information from there with a detailed explanation?

@Kolikojerokoko: Actually content in Wikipedia should be written based on reliable sources. If you see any factual errors or material which is not directly supported by reliable sources, they can be removed at any time. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 02:21, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

Tania Nehme's Biography

Hi AE, I'm trying to add more information to my Wikipedia information page and you keep wiping it out? Am I doing something wrong? The information is correct and reflects my experience. Please help me here.

Regards Tania Tania M Nehme (talk) 03:07, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

@Tarnia M Nehme: A user is strongly discouraged to edit articles about themselves, as the user may have bias that prevent them from maintaining a neutral point of view. Furthermore, you did not cite any sources for your edits. This makes it hard for others to verify if your edits are actually true, and is another reason we reverted your edits. If you think the article has something factually incorrect, please report the mistake and find a published article that supports your argument. XYZt (talk) 03:14, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

Revert

Hello, what's wrong with my edit? It wasn't vandalism. Seriously. I implore you to actually read the Donald Trump article, which states in the special counsel section that In August 2018, Trump wrote that Attorney General Jeff Sessions “should stop” the special counsel investigation “right now”; he also referred to it as a “rigged witch hunt”. starship.paint ~ KO 12:40, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Since there is a specification in the paragraph you mentioned, so I think it's redundant to have it in the lead section. Sorry for identifying it as vandalism since most of the time it really is. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:44, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
  • By your logic, nothing should ever be mentioned in the lede, since everything in the lede is (or should be) specified in the body of an article, so it's redundant to have it in the lead section. starship.paint ~ KO 12:46, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
  • Now that you are aware that it was a good faith edit, it would be a misuse of rollback to leave the rollback in place. starship.paint ~ KO 12:50, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Ah I didn't mean that. I mean that the lead section should be simple. "That should be terminated" doesn't seem to be the main or important point of the article. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:56, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
Yes. I should use Twinkle undo next time. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:56, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
By your logic, falsely identifying vandalism and using rollback is misuse of rollback. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 13:20, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Regarding poster on The Love Knot: His Excellency's First Love

Hello, if you google the drama: https://www.google.com.sg/search?q=The+Love+Knot%3A+His+Excellency%27s+First+Love&rlz=1C1CHBF_enSG749SG749&oq=The+Love+Knot%3A+His+Excellency%27s+First+Love&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i61j69i60l2j69i59l2&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8, you can see that the poster is used for this drama (also known as Moonshine and Valentine) and not Beautiful Secret in 2015. I believed that the previous editor has made a mistake.

Ok thanks for the notification. Happy editing :) ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 09:34, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

Olaf the White

What evidence do you have that Olaf the White was born in Ireland ? Also the 'putting aside' of Aud by Olaf - where does that information come from? Is it based solely on the notices of Olaf's other marriages and the theories of recent historians. As far as I am aware there is nothing to say she was put aside - do you have evidence of this ?

What evidence do you have that talking in article is considered appropriate? Use the talk page for discussion. If you believe the information is wrong, then remove it. If you continue excessively adding "notes" to the article, you'll have a nice trip to ANI for your disruptive editing. Yes, I don't have evidence for that. However, the content was not added by me. I don't have the responsibility for it. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 10:57, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

Edits to the Beast in Heat

I am not making disruptive edits to the above article. I was clarifying the film as being in the Nazisploitation sub-genre a of the exploitation film. I amended the article as it stated in error the film contained hardcore pornography. It does not. I also made an edit to the film which the director incorporated footage film and listed the film's title. This edits are not vandalism and are intended to help the article. Your comments are threatening and nonconstructive.

@HorrorProfessor: You didn't provide a reliable source for it. Please refer to your talk page for further explanation. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:46, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

changes to Lora (singer) page

Hi, Abel,

I am trying to update Lora (singer) page as I am a representative of her Label Universal Music Romania / MediaPro Music. My changes seem to revert though I have only uploaded a new picture of the artist and some more info about her. Please advice what to do in order to have my updates accepted.

Thank you, Foolsandkings (talk) 12:30, 8 August 2018 (UTC) Marius (foolsandkings)

@Foolsandkings: Hello. Welcome to Wikipedia. As mentioned in the linked policies in Kpgjhpjm's talk page, we strongly discourage conflict of interest editing. Please follow the instructions there. Also, Editors with a COI, including paid editors, are expected to disclose it whenever they seek to change an affected article's content. Anyone editing for pay must disclose who is paying them, who the client is, and any other relevant affiliation; this is a requirement of the Wikimedia Foundation. Also, COI editors should not edit affected articles directly, but propose changes on article talk pages instead. Thanks. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:36, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

I understand. I only wanted to update the picture as the current one is really old. Also some of the info is not incorrectly written and would like to update the biography as the information is several years old. Please advice how I could do this legally. Thank you!

@Foolsandkings: You can request it in the talk page, specifically Talk:Lora (singer). Remember you have to explain your change clearly and disclose your COI. Thanks ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:54, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

Edits to the Beast in Heat

How am I able to find a source for the fact that the film the Beast in Heat does not contain hardcore pornography besides the film itself? You are in fact directly promoting an error on wikipedia when you re-edit the article to include the fact The Beast in Heat contains hardcore pornography.

@HorrorProfessor: Then unfortunately it cannot be added. All content in Wikipedia must be written based on reliable source and in a neutral point of view, especially genres. Regards ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:52, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
I've clarified the statement from the book. It says most films contain hardcore sequences, but not specificly this one. I've edited this to match the source. If there are issues with accuracy, I would bring it up on the talk page unless you have a source HorrorProf. Andrzejbanas (talk) 12:56, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

Do not need a response but

I notice that any editing of Wikipedia articles now gets dropped from the article and despite what is said about other editors getting so see these edits the fact is that the public only get to see what the original editor wrote - regardless of whether the article is accurate or not. This removes the worth of wikipedia entirely. You are in effect preventing editing.

I am preventing disruptive editing. If you really want to change to article, then change it. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:25, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

Preventing editing

You stated:-

I am preventing disruptive editing. If you really want to change to article, then change it. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:25, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

Yet you block editing - you do not allow anyone to change the article and resort to ridiculous accusations of vandalism. If you don't want your article editing do not place it on a site that allows editing and do not say "change it"

If you want to make suggestions, use the talk page, not adding huge amounts of "notes" to the article. Also, your "notes" are also visible to the public. Furthermore, not all new edits are reverted, your edits are reverted because they are misplaced, and you came to me complaining that I am the one who "prevents" people from editing. One of the core principles of Wikipedia is assume good faith. We assume that people are helping the project, content added are correct. I assume good faith in you, I know you want to help the project, but in this case your edits (1) did not help the article (a.k.a. "not constructive") since you didn't change any content (2) confused the public, so I have to revert it. If you make constructive changes to the article, I will not revert it and will appreciate that you are really helping the project. Have you ever seen a featured article that has a "note" like yours? Btw, I am not an administrator, I cannot block anyone from editing. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:43, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

Your inability to allow editing

What is the point of allowing editing to a wikipedia entry if you block the edits and then claim that a perfectly reasonable questioning of your article constitutes vandalism. You have made statements about history without any supporting evidence, have failed to respond to reasonable and polite questions about your article and instead make threats. You are clearly unable to accept different opinions. I even entered my comments in brackets in order to leave your article unchanged. You article is historically innacurate and your excessive reaction and baseless accusatiomns and threats leave me in little doubt as to your petty-mindedness and throroughly narcisistic character. You are making this little corner of the internet closed to other thoughts. You should be ashamed of yourself hiding behind your feeble pseudomym and pathetic threats

The article is not mine. No one owns any of the articles here, not even Jimmy Wales (the founder). Other details are explained below. Regards ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:45, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
As an additional note, if you raise your concerns in the talk page, I will definitely not revert it. It is considered constructive. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:46, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

reverting edit to Jubail Industrial College

Hi, Abel; You have reverted a recent edit to Jubail Industrial College, citing factual error. Please see Persian Gulf naming dispute ... the term you have changed the name to is not recognized internationally and is, as a matter of fact, factually incorrect. I will respectfully revert your edit. Regards, 86.98.64.43 (talk) 08:45, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Kathleen Folbigg

I am Kathleen Folbigg's paralegal and I wish to make changes to her wikipedia page. These edits are completely non-controversial and reflect an accurate account of her life and case. I trust that wikipedia wishes to be a reliable source of information, and therefore would ask you please allow me to edit this page. As it currently stands, it is not accurate and conveys a bias message, which yet again I trust Wikipedia does not endorse. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dooey11 (talkcontribs) 09:16, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Mentorship

I cannot thank you more for taking your time to adopt me. Unfortanutley, we are on two opposite sides of the globe so this won't be as convinient. I'll be happy to start the mentorship on your agenda (not so sure how this works). Cheers. Yanjipy (talk) 15:40, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

AE, absolutel! I do have one question though and that is, if I should be using Twinkie at the current Wikipedia "knowledge" level of experience I have? Or should I wait until I have a lot more epxperience such as those who are extended confirmed users unlike myself? Thank you. Arabian Gulf/Persian Gulf

With your experience, you really should know better than to re-introduce WP:INTDABLINK errors as you did by reverting five good edits by User:86.98.64.43 who had changed the erroneous Arabian Gulf to the correct Persian Gulf. Narky Blert (talk) 07:33, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Yeah but I didn't know that was a disamb page. Also, good faith reverting in Huggle also contains rollback tag. Ok my fault. I'm not good at history. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 08:24, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Ian Swingland

"I have just been informed that any mention of the trial is a breach of the Order and is therefore potentially a contempt of court. I want my entire entry deleted, as I requested in the first place, otherwise Wikipedia is putting me in severe danger and possible legal action against me and you." All this was explained at length in my first message today. Why don't you understand . A Court Order prevents any mention of the trial and anything to do with it.

@Ianswingland: Do you have any evidence that proves the court order exists? ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 10:57, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Revert of my page edit

Hi AE,

I was wondering what was wrong with my edit on the African Microfinance Week (SAM) page? How can I correct these issues?

Thank you,

@Conor Hollywood: Oh sorry I didn't know that the page was created by you. I've cleaned up my edits. Thanks for your notification. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:22, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

no worries man

Whatever I have written is true to my best of knowledge

Dear sir,

The thing that i have edited by adding more information is taken from my unpublished research. i have been staying in Daltonganj since 2012 doing my research in this Palamu language. We have made lots of written, audio and video materials in this language. But Government has not yet recognized this as a language different from Magahi and Bhojpuri. We are on the process to inform government authorities regarding the vitality of this regional language spoken by 3 million people of Garhwah, Palamu and Latehar. Since mu research is not yet published I cannot give any citations. But you can view the status of this language by visiting our website palamu.net/

@Suraj4palamu: Please read WP:OR. Wikipedia articles must not contain original research. (The phrase "original research" (OR) is used on Wikipedia to refer to material—such as facts, allegations, and ideas—for which no reliable, published sources exist.) This includes any analysis or synthesis of published material that serves to reach or imply a conclusion not stated by the sources. To demonstrate that you are not adding OR, you must be able to cite reliable, published sources that are directly related to the topic of the article, and directly support the material being presented. I have no reason not to revert it. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:39, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Joke

Hi AE, you just reverted me on AN/I - not sure whether or not you read the comment, it was just a silly joke about Martinevans123's previous comment. Just wanted to make sure you know I wasn't actually making death threats! ;) Girth Summit (talk) 13:57, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

ANI is supposed to be serious ;) ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 13:58, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Disapproval of links

Just because something seems inappropriate in an encyclopaedia to you this is not the arbiter vide the Franklyn B Paverty page - this page has any number of links within it so your reverting of those links is arbitrary and inconsistent. That is vandalism of the page.

@Urac Huntmal: No. It is indeed inappropriate in Wikipedia. You complain this to me because you didn't even bother to read the messages (and policies) I've sent to you on your talk page. External links should either be put in the "External links" section or cited using inline citations. Easy to understand, huh? ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:46, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi again. For someone who requests courtesy you appear to be a little short on it yourself. Maybe get your own house in order before sneering at folk. Urac Huntmal (talk) 00:47, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

No. I am using the same tone as yours. Happy editing. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 01:30, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

AE, I was reading this article Adam Brown and I was looking at the reference to see that there is only one reference, but there are a few external links. Because you taught me not to put {{unrefrenced}} templates on articles with no references but they do have external links what is the right tag to apply for this article? – Yanjipy (talk) 17:57, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

@Yanjipy: If the references covers all the content in the page, then there's no need to tag with unreferenced. If some content is being covered by external links, then Template:No footnotes is what you're looking for. If not, then tag with unreferenced. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 01:34, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
When is the {{refimprove}} template used then? Yanjipy (talk) 02:17, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
When not all references or external links cover all content. An alternative of it is {{cn}}. However, excessive addition of cn tags to articles is considered disruptive editing. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 02:19, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

Help with Licensing in the Commons

Hey AE, as a part of this mentorship, will it be possible for you to give me some guidelines about licensing pictures or logos (that aren't my work) that I upload from the commons because apparently, I'm licensing the articles wrong according to John from Idegon. Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 23:18, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

No input is needed from me here, so there is no reason to ping me. If I leave a message on your talk page, you can also assume I've watchlisted it, so there is no need to ping me there either. Thanks. John from Idegon (talk) 01:22, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
@Yanjipy: I have only uploaded two pictures to Commons, all are my own work. I am not too familiar with the licensing files. You may read Wikipedia:Non-free content, the relevant guideline. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 01:29, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
Maybe you do need some input here, Yanjipy. First, the image in question is unequivocally NOT in the public domain. First, the PD template you added is only for use in very limited cases. The state of Florida has the authority to declare its work in the PD, Its highly doubtful they could compel a city to do the same. Second, schools are not units of government at any level. Public school districts and state universities are quasi-governmental corporations. In any case, most of that is overthinking. Just know that school logos are copyrighted. I do not see the image on the website listed on the file where you got that from, or I would do it right as an example for you. So I will attempt to explain, but know that copyright is damn complicated.
  1. Commons can only accept images that are released (licensed) under CC BY-SA 3.0 or a less restrictive license (like PD).
  2. There is something called "fair-use" exception to copyright which applies in certain situations to logos. The guideline for using them is cited above by AE.
  3. Fair-use logos must be uploaded to En.wiki, not commons.
  4. If you use the upload wizard, it is relatively easy. The only tricky part is the fair use rationale, which you can just copy from another logo file. File:Miramar High School crest.jpg would be a good one to copy.
If you have any questions on copyright, leave me a message. Either myself, or one of our resident experts on copyright, Marchjuly, will answer. I was a professional photographer for many years, so I have a fair working knowledge of all the intricacies. John from Idegon (talk) 02:50, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

How to Deal with these Types of Articles and their Creators.

Hello AE, I've been working on WikiProject Swimming and I've been practicing my tagging skills with Twinkle. I keep finding these biographies of swimmers created by User: Lugnuts and basically they all look like this. And there's something like a few hundred of them. So, I did the appropriate thing (I believe) and tagged them with a {{one source}} tag. Apparently, the creator of all these articles, Lugnuts went ahead and deleted all my edits. I didn't know what to do, so I contacted the user and asked them why they deleted my edits and if I did something wrong... he never responded so I'm here to ask you. Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 22:57, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

@Yanjipy: One source is NOT used in very very short articles. In your case, since the article is very short, there are too little context, so one source is enough to cover all of them. Therefore, tagging them with one source is inappropriate. Regards ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 00:52, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
Okay, I see so would there be any appropriate tag for an article like this? Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 01:10, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
@Yanjipy: Maybe refimprove is appropriate IF the references do not cover all of the content. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 01:45, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

How to Start Fighting Vandalism

Hi AE, I would like to start fighting vandalism and I wanted to know where I should start. Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 01:17, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

@Yanjipy: You may download Huggle. You can see patrol recent changes easier than using Wikipedia’s recent change feed since you can directly see the diff. However, in order to “use” Huggle, you need to have rollback flag which you don’t have now, but you can still use read-only mode. After you spot a unconstructive edit, you can open the browser and revert it. After some time, you may request rollback right here so you can actually use it, but such tool should be used in caution since you can make tons of edits in a minute. Regards ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 01:44, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
@Yanjipy: Also you should get good at identifying vandalism and familiar with some vandal-fighting guidelines or policies. WP:VD, WP:DENY, WP:RBI, WP:TROLLFOOD, WP:IDT, WP:ATWV, WP:IP!=VANDAL, WP:MOV, WP:VVT, WP:VOA blah blah blah. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 06:28, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
I will install Huggle today and I'll do some reading with the guidelines. Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 13:06, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Huggle Help

Hello AE, I've recently installed Huggle on my Mac and I'm having some issues. First of all, there is so much going on on the screen in front of you you get kind of lost. Also for some reason the Queue tab where it presented the live edits got deleted and I'm not sure how to get it back. Could you please explain what all the tabs are and their functions, while also telling me how to retrieve my Queue tab back? And on another note, for some reason I cannot connect to the Huggle IRC channel... it says I'm blocked, and I've never even connected to that channel before. Thanks. @Yanjipy: Go to Huggle preferences (Command + ,) -> Interface -> Restore Layout. Also, make sure you check all the boxes in here. Regarding the IRC, it's not necessary since it's only a chat, people (including me) seldom use it although I can connect to it. You can basically ignore anything else besides the queue and the diff. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 00:38, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

When Should I Apply for Extensive Rights

Hello AE, I just leveled up to an extended confirmed user and I have been reading the user group guidelines. I see that there are some other groups and permissions that you could request for. What would be the first (recommended) group that I should request for, and when? (Pardon my typing, I'm typing through my phone). Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 02:21, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Yanjipy, it rather much depends on what you're interested in doing. I see that you've assessing articles and adding content, so NPR might be eventually appropriate. Of course, most of the permissions require a minimum of 500 article space edits, of which you only have ~200, so that cuts off the majority of them (including NPR). Personally, my advice would be to apply for permissions when you need them, not simply because you can; if you cannot demonstrate why you need a perm, you will likely not get it. That wasn't a huggle.

kamoha undo

Hi Abel, - I noticed you undid a change that I recently made on the Kamoha page which I am watching, I am hoping you can lend me your thinking on this, I am sure to agree with what makes sense. I feel that the top of this page should reflect what the word means, and not the organisation, if you look at the history on this page you will see, that the Hebrew version of this page was not permitted / taken down for breach or WIKIPEDIA rules and a motion to remove this English page has been made years ago, but most likely to the obscurity of this organisation no one even noticed. I think the word kamoha itself should be respected, but the word/page as it stands is debatable whether it stays in WIKIPEDIA or not? The word itself would fit a word dictionary better. The very small and virtually totally unknown organisation promoted on this page should not receive such coverage from WIKIPEDIA it seems to me from my understanding of WIKIPEDIA rules that self promotion or little known companies, individuals or organisations is not permitted. Please let me know your thoughts on this?, as you said we are all human and can make mistakes. All the best, Oracle4.

  • Firstly, like any other articles, materials in Wikipedia must be written in sentence case. Secondly, the article seems to be talking about the organisation instead the literal meaning of the word. Thirdly, the content you added is not supported by reliable source.
