Disputed fair use rationale for Image:83 Hours 'Til Dawn.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:83 Hours 'Til Dawn.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions atWikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:49, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Resolved by adding link to article for which fair use was claimed.A Softer Answer(talk) 18:03, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

'Issues with Regina Ress page

Regina Ress is a major figure in the storytelling world. I thought her info was relevant in an encyclopedia and contacted her. The article on her is not from her website (which by the way I wrote for her) and even if it was she gave it to me to put online. It was written specifically for wikipedia as a collaboration between she and I and the photo is one I took. There is nothing that infringes on copyrighting anywhere on it. Please stop adding a template that says otherwise. Also I thought that I should add links to her page and those of other major players in the storytelling world to pages such as Storytelling and Storytellers as they obviously are relevant but the first of those were deleted and your note said that they were not allowed. Why is this since actual storytellers are very much related to storytelling and storytellers? I am not some spammer trying to push a client. I am adding relevant information that I have had people ask for. Thank you in advance for your swift reply. —Preceding unsigned comment added by151.202.111.18 (talk) 00:43, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok I understand why you wouldnt want just a list of tellers on those pages. So what about placing a link to that list on the bottom of the storyteller and storytelling pages? It is likely that people looking up Storyteller and Storytelling would benefit from being able to find such a list easily when they type in something like Storyteller. Also I had planned to write a little history of how Diana Wolkstein Helped bring about the storytelling renaissance of the 1970's and such an article would include the names of tellers who were the foundations of this renaissance which would then be linked to the articles on those tellers. It would be a good addition as a history section of the storytelling article (there is a section titled "Storytelling as Artform" which touches on the renaissance but does not actually say why it happened or how it came about). Would such a use of names of the tellers who brought this about be removed as well? You brought up that anyone can edit the articles on wiki I assume to explain why you were able to remove the links i had put up. I think it's great people can edit everything but I don't see the point in simply blocking out things that someone who is actually in a certain field thinks is important to articles about that field.

Also some questions about what you think is copyrighted text. First off the wikipedia thing on copyrighted material states early on "we must often email or contact the copyright holders and ask them to allow us to use it under the GFDL or a GFDL-compatible license". The problem I have with that is that in this case it's not copyrighted at all and it was she herself who wanted me to put up what I did. I'm not sure how to prove to you that a copyright doesn't exist. It would seem to me that it is only possible to prove such a thing does exist and so the burden of proof would not be on those claiming it does not. In any event how can we use the line that appears in both places without having a big sign at the top calling our article plagiarism? if we choose to ignore the template will someone come along and remove the line or would there be no consequences other that a stupid box denouncing our ability to legally post what we created? Hello, I requested that KTUL be semi-protected and that request was approved today. This should help! Thanks, Postoak (talk) 21:49, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the Welcome!

Thank you for the welcome! Atlanta is my favorite city and I want to put more information on what the background of the city. Taffy Thomas

Thanks for attending to my Taffy entry so promptly. I entirely take on board the point you made about the structure in terms of paragraphs but I've taken the liberty of re-visiting and making one or two further changes. Please have a look at your earliest convenience to see if they meet with your approval. As you probably realise I have not been a wikipedian long and this was my first entry from scratch so I'm always happy to learn more about what I'm doing right and wrong. Orphaned non-free media (File:Last Dance Carmen Agra Deedy.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Last Dance Carmen Agra Deedy.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under aclaim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:07, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello A Softer Answer! Thank you for your contributions. I am a botalerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Thebiographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 940 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Chris Flesher - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Thanks!--DASHBot (talk) 23:10, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello, unthinking Bot! I created the above referenced article because someone had inappropriately added information about an individual artist to the Folk art page. I have no knowledge or interest in the above referenced article and will therefore not bring it up to standards. I hope you're not disappointed. Oh, right, you're a bot, both unthinking and unfeeling. A Softer Answer (talk) 14:59, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Rufus M. Rose House

A Soft Answer, yes, I put the references at the bottom (with a white space) to indicate the entire passage used them. The way that you put them makes it look, in my opnion, that it's just that last sentence that's being referenced. Maybe it's splitting hairs, just my thoughts. Carsonmc (talk) 16:38, 23 February 2010 (UTC) First, Carsonmc, let me thank you for your excellent work with NRHP articles in the ATL. I have been meaning to get out there and take some picture myself, but it just hasn't gotten done. I agree with you that the edits I did makes it look like the references are only for the last sentence or, more generously, the entire paragraph and not the entire section, but I also have never seen what you did--off-setting the references--done before. I will plan on looking into it tomorrow when I should have some free time.A Softer Answer (talk) 22:51, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for adding the copypaste template to that article. Although the copyright tag didn't appear in this site in which you think the text was copied from, it doesn't appear that it was copied from Wikipedia either so I decided to remove the History section. Female Seminary, in Gwinnett County

Hi, i noticed and reversed your edit for the display name of an NRHP-listed place within National Register of Historic Places listings in Gwinnett County, Georgia. I believe you must have information that "Female Seminary" must be a better name than "Old Seminary Building"; I would welcome your adding information about that to the article and would welcome your commenting at Talk:Old Seminary Building about what name for the article would be best. I started up the Old Seminary Building article to allow for a proper discussion and for sources to be presented. About what should show in the county-level NRHP list-article, however, the NRHP listing name is what should be shown there, because we are trying to provide a list of all the NRHP-listed places and there may be readers looking up NRHP-listed places on the list, looking for a specific place. If a different name is better for the article, the article can be moved leaving a redirect from the NRHP listing name behind. I look forward to your comments and edits at the Talk page and article. Thanks and keep up your good work! --doncram (talk) 03:55, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

I've proposed this BLP for deletion, as I can't find reliable secondary sources to back the article, and it is an unreferenced BLP. I've also removed what appears to be copyright-infringing text from the article. Feel free to decline the PROD if you can add (reliable, secondary) sources to verify and establish the notability of this folk artist. Best, --je deckertalk to me 06:03, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Don't Be Afraid To Be Amazing

Hi. It took me a bit longer than I expected, but I have a pic of the New Orleans Public Library mural you requested, and ready to upload. Are you on line here now? If not let me know when we're both active on Wikipedia at the same time, and I'll upload the pic and let you write the fair use rationale and take care of placing the image where you want it. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 22:48, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

I have uploaded the photo as Image:NOPLDontBeAfraidToBeAmazing.jpg, with a note that fair use rationale is pending and please don't delete for 24 hours. Rewrite the description as appropriate. (If image is deleted before you have a chance to get to it, let me know and I can re-upload it at any appropriate time.) Cheers, --Infrogmation (talk) 14:30, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
