About the Roma article title change voting[edit]

Hello, @多多123, unfortunately this time the majority of the votes were opposed to it but quite a good number supported me. I think I'll try again in a few months. The voting should have lasted 1 week but it lasted 11 days, in the last few days the only comments were "oppose" ones so maybe they waited to close the voting after they had the majority? Also, if it's not too much of a bother, do you happen to know other wikipedia users that would support your opinion as well as mine with the Roma article title change? Thank you in advance ^^ Ninhursag3 (talk) 15:07, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Ninhursag3: hi, no, I don't know anyone who would support specifically, but I can ask a few of the Wikipedians I've talked to before. Also, trying to "enforce" the change may get you blocked, so watch out. 多多123 20:10, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much ^^ Someone told me to wait at 1 to 2 years to try again. I think 2 years is kinda excessive. I will do things by the book so I don't think I will get blocked, even though for 1 month I can't edit in English because I replied too many times on the talk page. 1 week already passed so only 3 more weeks. But I think I will wait 6-12 months to try again for the wikipedia article title change, in the meanwhile I will edit other articles. Ninhursag3 (talk) 20:41, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What is the purpose of invisible changes?[edit]

What is the purpose of edits like this and this, which appear to have no effect on the rendered page? The latter edit modified an editor's signature; on a more complex page, that sort of edit could introduce or compound Linter formatting errors. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:18, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Invisible changes" are for Wikicode, as some things are getting left with the modernisation of Wikimedia sites. If you believe one of the edits are mistaken please feel free to partially undo them (manually). 多多123 17:49, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That answer does not make sense. Please link to a guideline or technical page that supports these edits. As far as I know, converting underscores to spaces in a wikilink that has link text does not fix anything. Changing — to — does not fix anything. And no, I won't revert those edits, because it just adds to the noise. Unless you have some technical or guideline-related rationale for those edits, please do not make them. – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:18, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP:CWERRORS --多多123 10:50, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have been making these edits for months now, and I've seen many other regulars doing so too. 多多123 10:52, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Which CheckWiki error number was this edit fixing? There may be a problem with CW, because I do not see any actual errors. I may be missing something though. – Jonesey95 (talk) 11:44, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
#50, #557, HTMLToWikitext, UnicodeControlChars and Whitespace. (From WP:CWERRORS and WP:AED.) 多多123 11:52, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Item #50 is not an error. See MOS:DASH, which permits both kinds of dash. That's probably why it is listed as "Cosmetic" and "Off" at Wikipedia:WikiProject Check Wikipedia/List of errors. #557 was not present, as far as I can tell; your edit added white space before two links within an editor's signature, which is a guideline violation. I do not see any Unicode control character changes. It appears that you do not understand what this tool is doing, so you probably should not use it unless you disable its automatic functions and have it focus on changes that you understand. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:22, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unicode covers all the characters for all the writing systems of the world, modern and ancient. It also includes technical symbols, punctuations, and many other characters used in writing text. নেট_ফ্রেমওয়ার্ক and ২০২২ সাফ অনূর্ধ্ব-১৮ মহিলা চ্যাম্পিয়নশিপ were edited. Cosmetic changes are still a reason for editing! #557 was present on the first page.
多多123 17:32, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please check both edits before replying, as you don't seem to be looking into them into-depth. 多多123 17:33, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! This is a different edit, here it's #02... and... Wikilinks, "Cleans up and simplifies internal links". (Check WP:AED) 多多123 17:42, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am focused on this edit, which I have now reverted because of the invalid change to an editor's signature. I looked into that edit in depth and listed some of my objections above. Changing <br/> to <br /> and replacing underscores with spaces in internal links that have link text (so that the underscores are not displayed to the reader) are useless edits that should be avoided; they are just noise in the watchlist. Please do not perform them unless you are making a change to the page that actually fixes something that modifies the rendered page output. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:31, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I already answered your question, the edit changed #02 and removed _ as per Wikilinks which are in fact not shown to the readers. As well as a "signature", in this aforementioned there are in fact no signatures. 多多123 18:40, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, you contradicted yourself.

And no, I won't revert those edits, because it just adds to the noise.

多多123 18:56, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We agree that the underscores are not shown to the readers in that page, which is why changing them was pointless. The change for #02 is also pointless; it did not fix anything that was broken. When I said I would not revert, I did not see that you had modified the signature of User:Jubileeclipman. In any event, it has become abundantly clear from this conversation that you do not understand what this tool is doing or why it is doing it. The "space before links" error does not apply on pages that might have editor signatures on them, for example, but you used the tool to make a "space before links" change on such a page. As it says on the tool's page, you are responsible for the edits, and since you do not understand them, you should not use the tool until you do. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:42, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
One time that I use it on talkpages and that means that I don't understand how to use the tool? The edit you mentioned in "I am focused on this edit" didn't have any signatures. 多多123 23:01, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An Observation[edit]

Regarding this statment on your user page: DO NOT delete warnings WITHOUT adding explanations for doing so in either the edit summary or my talk page. I will undo your edit and warn you for VANDALISM, this will be a level 2 warning.
I want ot make you aware of WP:BLANKING, which your statement directly contradicts. I have no particular problem with you having the statement on your user page. However, if you should follow through with your commitment to revert users' edits to their talk and then post escalating warnings, you may encounter push back that might be unpleasant. I'll watch list this page in the event you have any questions. Tiderolls 13:23, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WP:OTHERSCOMMENTS --多多123 11:00, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Tide rolls: Hm, I didn't think somebody would think of it that way... That's for other users editing on the talkpage where I warned, as editing others' comments is already against Wikipedia's rules.

File permission problem with File:Ejercito Argentino.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Ejercito Argentino.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. @Iruka13: I don't see how I would be able to create an image depicting Argentine soldiers, seeing as I'm in the UK. I can't find any Commandos on Commons either. 多多123 18:08, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And the ones I do find are older photos meaning less MPs, meaning lower quality, giving reason for the non-free fair use. 多多123 18:11, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, I've contacted the author and am awaiting a response to license it under CC-BY-SA-4.0 or of the like. 多多123 18:12, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You can buy a ticket, get on a transport and end up in another country. Or you can sew this headdress while in your own country. Take a photo of it. And post it under a free license. — Ирука13 18:16, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Iruka13: You make it sound easy to replicate a standard issue beret which has intricate designs specific to the regiment and country. You also make it sound easy to buy a ticket to end up on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, if I had that money I would buy a new camera not go around the world for 1 day. If you believe it's so easy why can't you do it yourself?

In the UK, roughly 50% of the population does not participate in air travel in any given year, with 15% of the population responsible for 70% of all flights (Hopkinson and Cairns, 2021). [1]

Not everyone can afford to buy air tickets to take just one photo. 多多123 18:23, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
