Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! I noticed that you recently added commentary to an article. While Wikipedia welcomes editors' opinions on an article and how it could be changed, these comments are more appropriate for the article's accompanying talk page. If you post your comments there, other editors working on the same article will notice and respond to them and your comments will not disrupt the flow of the article. However, keep in mind that even on the talk page of an article, you should limit your discussion to improving the article. Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Christopher Hitchens has been reverted.
Your edit here to Christopher Hitchens was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnQGyHcDoU) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy, as well as other parts of our external links guideline. If the information you linked to is indeed in violation of copyright, then such information should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file, or consider linking to the original.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Net worth[edit]

Hello. I noticed you have been adding the net worths of famous people to articles. While efforts to make biographical articles more complete are welcome, an individual's net worth may not be relevant for every article. For example, net worth might be an important detail about a musical artist, but there is no reason to believe that the net worth of a noncommercial public figure like Richard Dawkins is notable. In addition, I don't think CelebrityNetWorth is a WP:reliable source. It might be a good idea to pause before adding net worths en masse to articles and only add them if they are relevant to the topic and can be backed up by at least one other source. If you have any questions, just drop a note on my talk page. Cheers, Intelligentsium 02:41, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest editing[edit]

Hi,

I responded to your comment on the talk page. However, I noticed that the company CelebrityNetWorth is headquartered in California where you live and seems to have a number of employees near your geographic area. Forgive me for being nosy, but it appears many or most of their employees are college students and you are editing from a college in California. If you are associated with the company in any way, please be informed of Wikipedia's conflict of interest editing policy. In brief, conflicts of interest must be disclosed, and Wikipedia strongly discourages editors editing articles relating to topics to which they have a connection. If I am mistaken, I apologize, feel free to disregard this message. Intelligentsium 02:38, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have no relationship with CNW. The way that I found out about the website a few days ago was while typing into Google the search phrase "Christopher Hitchens n" and the first search phrase offered by the Google-supplied popdown was "Christopher Hitchens net worth". The search results returned started with a Google-special entry about net worth that pointed to CNW and the next result was to http://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-celebrities/authors/christopher-hitchens-net-worth/ . In other words, Google thinks it is pretty notable. I was intrigued and proceeded from there.--130.65.109.103 (talk) 02:46, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
OK, just checking. The Google entries are scraped from Wikipedia. In addition, Google hits are not given any weight when determining notability. Please stop adding net worths cited to CNW until the matter of whether CNW is a reliable source is resolved. You are welcome to comment at the discussion on WP:RSN. Thanks, Intelligentsium 03:03, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Please explain this edit. Intelligentsium 03:17, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Just trying to speak Wikipedia's language. CNW is different than Wikipedia. We just need to communicate and maybe introspect a little.--130.65.109.103 (talk) 03:24, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, CNW is different from Wikipedia, but neither CNW nor Wikipedia is a reliable source. I don't follow your logic as to how saying CNW has not had an Essjay affair helps your case. However, on Wikipedia the source of information must be transparent and shown for all editors to verify, which is not the case on CNW. Another editor has weighed in on WP:RSN, and several others have reverted the addition of CNW to pages on the grounds that it is not reliable. The consensus appears to be that this is not a reliable source. If you have any additional comment, you are welcome to provide it, but please do not add citations to the site anymore as they will be reverted. Intelligentsium 13:50, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop[edit]

Hi, I just came across your most recent edits. While we did reach a consensus that Forbes is a better source for net worth than CelebrityNetWorth and inclusion can be considered if the net worth figure is provided by a reliable source, I don't believe there was ever a consensus to mass add net worths to articles. Your edit summaries such as "Nobody should feel sorry for the subject because of his ethnicity. Nobody. He can buy his happiness all he wants", "Out this guy. He has sold his soul to the almighty dollar", "Out this "philanthropist". He is making tens of millions but how much of that goes to him being such a nice guy? Huh?, among others, show you are using Wikipedia as a soapbox to "out" philanthropists you believe are not doing enough. Please stop and initiate a discussion as to whether every article with a net worth available should have a net worth added; otherwise the next stop is ANI. Intelligentsium 21:41, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Where is your sense of humor? I was just kidding. I do not give a rat's ass about any of these rich people. Whether they live or die painfully or otherwise. I just know what upsets you control freaks. Lighten up! Go have a walk and a latte and maybe a nice bath. Breathe. There now. Isn't that better?--130.65.109.103 (talk) 21:49, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not upset; this topic doesn't affect me in any way. However, I am concerned that you're making mass additions to pages without consensus. Your use of disruptive edit summaries is not funny, nor is the subtle POINTedness of adding net worths to the Philanthropy sections of biographies in order to discredit them. Intelligentsium 21:59, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if somebody wants to improve the article by moving the sentences around, let them. This would all be so much simpler if many more of the infoboxes just had salary and net_worth as parameters. At the moment, I can only find them on Template:Infobox person and Template:Infobox peer. Put them on all infoboxes; that would be the mature approach. But each one has to be done by consensus, one-by-one. Brutal.--130.65.109.103 (talk) 22:04, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
While there is some consensus to include net worth in some circumstances, there is no precedent for adding salary or revenue/annual income. The infoboxes do not have those parameters simply for the reason that there is no consensus to include it systematically. Thank you for pausing your edits to discuss - I have initiated a discussion of when inclusion is appropriate at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#When_is_it_appropriate_to_include_net_worth_in_a_BLP.
