Alfredo Vignale (June 15, 1913, Grugliasco, Province of Turin – November 16, 1969, Turin, Homonymous Province) was an Italian car designer and coachbuilder.

He was the founder of the automobile design house Carrozzeria Vignale specializing on design projects for car manufacturers, such as Fiat, Cisitalia, Lancia, Ferrari, Maserati, as well as Aston Martin, Cadillac, Chevrolet, or Tatra.[1]

Biography[edit]

Alfredo Vignale was born on June 15, 1913 in Grugliasco, Italy.[2] In 1924, he left school and started working as an apprentice panel-beater.

In 1930, he joined Stabilimenti Farina.[3]

In 1935, Vignale started his military service and was assigned to the medical corps of a military hospital in Rome.

He worked for Battista Farina until 1948 when he founded his design house Carrozzeria Vignale.[4]

He passed away in Turin on November 16, 1969, due to a traffic accident. At the time of his death, he had received an offer from the Italo-Argentine industrialist Alejandro De Tomaso to acquire his company, which was finalized a few weeks after his death. Finally, his firm was transferred in 1973 to the Ford Motor Company, who decided to end its operations in 1974.
