Format[edit]

First three series[edit]

The star guest talked to the presenter in the right of the studio appearing in the clothes they wore in their occupation. The background in the right of the studio was what the star guest did in their occupation. After telling the presenter who they were going to be, the star guest left the studio through a door behind the presenter and return in the door at the centre of the studio as their idol. After the star guest performed, the presenter introduced the next star guest. After all five acts performed, the studio audience voted for the winner and the star guest with the most votes advanced to the final. In the final, there was a panel who would give their views of each of the finalists performance. The panel consisted of John Longthorne, Pete Waterman and Sally Whittaker. That was quickly dropped for the rest of it's run. Like the heats, The finalist who started in a random order, talked to the presenter in the right of the studio, but this time, the finalist was in their regular clothes and there was a picture of their appearance in the heat in the back. The finalist would sing a different song from their idol they performed in the last show. After all five acts performed, the studio audience voted for the winner. In the heats and the final, when the presenter reminded, it cut to a starry background and the first act appeared on the top right of the screen, the second act appeared on the top left of the screen, the third act appeared on the middle centre of the screen, the fourth act appeared on the bottom left of the screen and the fifth act appeared on the bottom right of the screen. While the studio audience were voting, the acts in the boxes waiting behind the centre door.| When the result was being announced, the five acts waited just outside the studio. In the second and third series, Although the final of the second and third series, the finalist appeared in their clothes they wore in their occupation with the background being what the finalist did in their occupation. In the next two series, the reminder of the star guests was when they appeared from the famous doors. While the audience were voting, A large box with the star guest waiting backstage was on the top left of the screen and underneath it was the Stars In Their Eyes logo and on the right of the screen was the voting diagram and on the right of it was rectangles. The background was starry.

Remaining thirteen series[edit]

Matthew Kelly took over as presenter. There was a look of what the star guest did with them providing a voice over. The star guest talked to the presenter in the middle of the studio and was in their regular clothes and left through the door in the centre of the studio and still returned in the centre of the studio as their idol. In the fourth series after the star guest performed, Matthew moved on to the next act but from the fifth series onwards, Matthew went over to the star guest after their performance. In the heats, the reminder of the star guests was when they appeared from the famous doors. In the fourth series while the audience were voting, on the right of the screen was the voting diagram and inside it was a triangle with stars pouring underneath when it was going up and the background was purple stars. In the fifth series while the audience were voting, A large box with the star guest waiting backstage was on the top left of the screen and underneath it was three Stars In Their Eyes logos and on the right of the screen was the voting diagram and inside it was a triangle with stars pouring underneath when it was going up.the grand finals were broadcast live and the winner of the whole series was voted for by the viewing public through the phone lines and in some years online as well. In the left of the studio, there was a still and a board which had the name of the finalist and the telephone number which would later turn into the number of votes the finalist received. And in the right of the studio was an orchestra. From the fourth to the fourteenth series of the final, The finalists went in the order of the number of the episode the finalist won.

Timeline[edit]

Series 1 to 5[edit]

Nicky Campbell was the presenter. The big prizes were a choice of three. A holiday or cash or a car. He entered the studio to the right of the stairs and introduced the letter spinner who entered to the left of the stairs. The puzzleboard was styled like the one on the American puzzle board used from 1981 to 1993. The background color for unused trilons on the puzzle board was green.

Series 1 to 3[edit]

In the first three series, before recording of each episode, each contestant spun the wheel and the contestant with the highest score would start the first round. The contestant would be asked a 50/50 trivia question and if the contestant answered correctly, the contestant spun the wheel and if they landed on a number, they had to pick a letter. If the letter appeared on the puzzle board once, the contestant would earn the value. If the letter appeared on the puzzle board twice, the contestant would earn double the value. If the letter appeared on the puzzle board thrice, the contestant would earn triple the value and so on. The contestant would spin the wheel again but the contestant's turn would end if the contestant either landed on a number but picked a letter that did not appear on the puzzle board earning the contestant no points but not deducted the number the contestant landed on, landed on the 'LOSE A TURN" or landed on the "BANKRUPT" losing the contestant's total score. If the contestant landed on the "FREE SPIN", the contestant would be given a "FREE SPIN" loop and would spin the wheel again and if the contestant landed on a number but picked a letter that did not appear on the puzzle board or landed on the "LOSE A TURN" or landed on the "BANKRUPT" losing the contestant's total score, the contestant could give their "FREE SPIN" loop to the host and spin again or hand over play to the next contestant, But if the contestant answered the 50/50 trivia question incorrectly, they would not spin the wheel and play would move on to the next contestant. In the first series, Angela Ekaette was the letter spinner where she would say what the category of the puzzle was.

In the second series, Carol Smilie was the new letter spinner, the presenter would say what the category of the puzzle was and the cash prize was increased to £4,000.

The round one wheel used in 1988. The following year, this layout was reversed and was used until 1991.

Series 4 and 5[edit]

The 50/50 questions were dropped and replacing that, Nicky read a question out to the contestants and the contestant who buzzed in and answered correctly would gain control of the wheel. In addition, the values on the wheel from round 3 onwards were worth double
In the fifth series, the cash prize was extended to £5,000.

Series 6 to 12[edit]

There was a new logo. The set was also changed. The letter board changed to a cross like where around the outside of it were lights blue, yellow and red, the fonts on the letters changed to ? and the background colour for unused trillions changed from green to blue. Underneath the wheel, the white stick lights were replace by red, yellow and blue shades.

The contestant pods were changed from cream to gold. Standing behind the contestants, replacing the fans, candle like flames.

In 1994, The star prizes were £10,000 and a new car which was opened. The holiday was dropped.

In 1995, Jenny Powell replaced Carol Smilie as the letter spinner. The star prizes remained the same, £20,000 (a increase by £10,000) or the car. This time the winning contestant randomly selected his/her prize by choosing one of two sealed envelopes

In 1997, Bradley Walsh replaced Nicky Campbell as host and during his run in round 3, if a contestant landed on a certain space and also got a letter on the board, they could win the contents of "Brad's Box".

In 1998, John Leslie replaced Bradley Walsh as host and during his run in series 10, round 3 was renamed "Leslie's Luxury" but there were two boxes one would be for the men and the other one would be for the women.

The programme was moved from primetime to daytime and there, there was only one big prize which was the cash prize but it was slashed from £20,000 to £2,000. The other star prize being the car was dropped. Winners of each round were able to chosen from an array prizes laid out in the studio which used to hold the car, such as a CD player, dishwasher etc. In round 2 replacing the hostess prize, a Mystery prize would be awarded to the contestant if he/she picked up the token and solved the puzzle. Also in round 3, replacing the hostess prize, the winning contestant had a chance to win another £100 by guessing a special "puzzler"

The set was changed from aqua to purple and underneath the wheel, the red, yellow and blue lights were replaced by normal lights.
